Castaic Lake
-
Water Temp: 73 - 75
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Started morning fishing Sammys and Assasins over top of grass beds at Sharon's Rest. Good for a handful of 2-3lb fish but more blow-ups and follows than bites. Switched to drop shot after sun came into view and caught a few more fish but bites were few. Shad were every where so decided to go crank the west walls. Bingo! Excellent bite using LuhrJensen 1/4oz. Speed Traps in Crystal Tennesee Shad pattern. First 2 casts were 3-1/2 to 4lb fish. Had several other nice fish as well as plenty of the 1-1/2 to 2lb variety. Left the lake at 2:00 but not before my partner and I had put together an 18lb+ limit.
City: Long BeachTips: Cooler water is result of water coming in. Normally this time of year it is pushing 80*, especially after the heat we have been having. Lake was recently Bluestoned again clearing up the water but also killing off the grass that provides cover, shade and oxygen. Nothing better than working a topwater bait over the top of the grass and watching a fish come out of it and hit your lure. Look for areas of shad. If you find those, the bass are near by and don't be surprised if you catch a few Stripers as the Bass are mingling with them as they chase the shad Price to get in is ridicuosly high, $22.00 but don't get fooled by all the improvements. Those were done with federal money earmarked for that long before Castaic's problems I should say problem as this has to be the most mis-managed lake in California

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the back bays along the south shore of the fishing arm. Noticably less surface activity than usual. Threw buzz baits, spinner baits (deep and surface), plastic shad and worms. Nothing. Focused on one pocket that was thick with shad and several 1-5 pound bass working the shad school. Nothing, but, spoiled fish watching me bring a bag lunch to Thanksgiving dinner...

Kaweah Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Pretty much the same pattern as before. 27 bass on Wednsday morning. They are starting to hit shad more frequently. I give it two weeks and they will be busting the top in huge schools.
City: CorcoranTips: Dropshot, crawdads, or minnows. Crankbait caught a couple. Just have to watch out for boaters who don't have enough respect to drive by you out of casting range.

Kaweah Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished 6:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday. My brother and I each caught around 40 bass, mostly spots in the 13" to 16" range. Largest went 3 lbs. This is the time of year the bass bite usually peaks at Kaweah.
City: CorcoranTips: Fish the dam and the rock wall with dropshot worms for spots. Throw senkos at any type of cover for largemouth.

Success Lake
-
Water Temp: 80's
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went over to fish lake by myself and could only launch boat off lure point, launched at 6pm. Went to dam and "slow rolled" a 3/8 oz chartruse spinner bait along dam in 10-12 ft. picked up one 12" dink. At dusk I started to pitch my spinner bait parralel to dam placing it almost on shore and got it spinnining imediatly. hooked and landed a 7lb largemouth doing so, in 2-3 ft of water and landed a 4lb a few cast later. Was fun, had no net and catch and release anyways. Where was a tournament when I needed one!! Bugs deffinently said to go home, 1000's around my head and none 3 feet from me, oh well whats a little west niles compared tro these quality fish.....LoL!!!!
City: BakersfieldTips: Fish Lake success as much as you can ASAP as they are draining the lake and moving ALL game fish to Lake Kawea. Army corp Engineers are going to have to repair "bulge" in Dam. So much fo the Great come back of this Lake since they poisoned in years back. Will be starting all over again. Anyone with any different info please post..

El Capitan Lake
-
Water Temp: 76 - 79
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Had 6 fish over the 15" size limit during the tournament, the biggest going 3.9lbs, for a weight of 12.69. Had 5 others that were close but close is still short. Fished between 16' and 25' ACROSS steep underwater points drop-shotting 8# Sunline fluorocarbon and 4" Roboworm Blue Crawler. Bites were few and had to make every one count but the quailty was better. Caught other fish that were out chasing shad in the middle of the lake on surface in 49' to 52' of water on Sammy's and Yamamoto spider jigs.
City: Long BeachTips: The fish on the shad are there from first light til about eleven. That's the time when boat activity is putting them done. You need to be able to make long, I'm almost half emptying an Okuma Induron 250 loaded with 30lb braid, accurate casts with the Sammy. The fish come up and go back down just as fast and you have about 10 seconds, if that, to put your bait into the fish. Another method that was working and should allow for longer casts is to throw the spider jig with a spinning outfit on a 7 1/2' rod into the breaking fish. As soon as it hits the water put it in to gear and let it fall through them. You should get bit on the fall. A WORD OF COURTESY. The fish are being put down when the "fleet" starts running all over to get to them. Everybody is entitled to fish but if you have'nt yet mastered the long, accurate cast leave those fish for the guys that have. Two other boats and myself were doing fairly well in an area away from the "fleet" when they caught on. We had boats coming within boat lengths of us and going over the top of our lines of us trying to get to fish they couldn't cast to. As a result all their running around put the fish down, ruining the bite not only for us but themselves. Once the fish go down, they go down for everybody.
Good Fishing, Ross

Pine Flat Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Started up river in the trees but no luck with topwaters, senkos, or the new Kreature baits, tried some texas rig and got a couple of dinks off some rocks on the backside of Edison pt. Went around to the front side in the trees and got one on a dropshot assalt shaker. Lost a keeper on a main lake point. Lake is very low and Deer cr ramp is a pain to launch and park.Water is still being released and fish are turned off.

Report: On the water at 4:15 AM, 4th cast of the day with a crankbait and I hook a hawg on the rock wall leading into greasy. She finally comes up and my dad netted her. She weighs 11 lbs on a digital scale. My personal best by 3 lbs !! WOW ! Rest of the morning we caught 25 bass on cranks, roboworms, and yamamoto hula grubs. The lake is getting better and better. Oh yeah, as Im loading the boat at 9 AM, Jaime from Sierra Sporting Goods hooks and lands an 8 lber on a rico 25 ft away from us. Incredible!
City: Visalia -
Water Temp: 81
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: 0600 to 0930, Not many boats, good thing. Bunch of dinks across from the second ramp off of drop off's. Biggest went about 2 1/2 on a white/chart spinnerbait. (Shallow) The mud hole is alive and kicking.
City: TulareTips: drop shotting aaron's magic and purple weenie along with a white/chart spinnerbait was my claim to fame for catching dinks.

Kaweah Lake

Water Temp: 70-75
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the river feeding the lake starting at slick rock at 7 AM. Walked the length of the river till about 9 AM. Seems that there is are too many people using this area for swimming and the fish are gone. Caught a pair of baby bass on a rooster tail. When I say baby bass, I mean babys, 2-4 inches! The water in the lake is lower now than I've seen in a while at this time of year.
City: VisaliaTips: Don't bother fishing the river feeding the lake, leave this area for swimming famlies and drunks.
