Lower Otay Lake
-
Water Temp: 72
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I hadn't been to Lower Otay since I was a kid and was relieved to see the anglers at the lake, especially since it was Hump Day. Ran into a new angling club in town and they were tearing the joint up. They said that they were the Flying Piranha Brothers and they have a crazy arsenal. I ran into them on Wednesday and they were telling me about what was biting. It was my first time at the LOFT and they were helpful at telling me what were the *HOT* spots. I saw a texas rig, carolina rig, drop shot and sabiki rig. These guys were nuts.....good to see the new blood at the lake.
City: San DiegoTips: I was told to fish where the fish are by the first group of anglers I met. Don't be discouraged by the regulars, many of them are jerks and I wouldn't be surprised if they were racist.

Hensley Lake
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Well first time here for about 2 months. I have been going to eastman at night and doing well, but hensley is allways fun. Started around 5:00pm near the 5mph bouys and right away my partner hooked up with a small fish. The wind was blowing pretty good so we went to a number of places including rock piles, main lake points and dropoffs, just to see where fish were. Well they were everywhere we caught fish on an assortment of plastics with the fish going from a pound to three pounds. The bite was really good right before dark, then it shut off we moved out to dropoff from 8 to 26 feet and were able to catch a couple more fish, but during the dark hours it was alot slower. We finished the night with 22 bass. After taking a nap on the boat we started fishing again around 5:30am and the fishing was on again but we could only find fish up to about 2 1/2 pounds. We left and 8:30 with 17 fish for just a few hours bringing our total to 39 fish, Lots of Fun!!
City: CoalingaTips: Fish seem to be scattered all over the lake the water is dropping 10 more feet and it will be down to last winter level. This should make for some good fall fishing. Just get out there and fish early morning or evening. Worms, lizards, senkos, its all working right now. Good Luck and have fun.

Water Temp: 85
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Recent AmBassaduers of So Cal tournament. Two weigh-ins and paper to conform to lake regs. 1st place: 20.2lbs, lizards in creek channels and drop shot in 27 -32' 2nd place: 15.6lbs, topwater over submerged brush and cranking along edges of railroad. 3rd place: 12.9lbs, fished with guy who finished 1st. The two of them went through 4 packs of Zoom lizards and close to 100 Roboworms. Had 3 hour stretch in one creek channel of a fish on every cast. Had several double hook-ups.
City: Long BeachTips: Don't be afraid to get off the beach and spend some time with your graph. If you find the right bunch on this lake it can be fantastic. It always is!

Pine Flat Lake
-
Water Temp: 83
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: On the lake by 4:00 with the temp about 102...first thing my son and I did was jump in the lake...just to cool down. Tried first to find some shade to see if fish were holding up there...zero...went back to the main lake and started casting where the wind blew into the trees..fished like that untill dark and ended up with about 8..largst being around 1 1/2lbs..texas worm pro green weenie and keeper worms ...tough fishing with the skiiers and low water conditions...felt like we were in the ocean! I wish the skiiers and jet idiots would just go home...I'm just venting,,,sorry California needs to learn to protect there fisheries better..
City: ClovisTips: Cast 3-5 feet in front of the submerged trees and let the wind bring whatever you are presenting into the trees.....be patient and don't be afraid to deadstick it a bit.....when you start to work it...go slow...a very subtle bite. Also let them truly take it...don't set too soon

Nacimiento Lake
-
Water Temp: 75 degrees
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Naci from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM. 6" Keeper Custom Worms in any shad colors, numbers 170, 1064, 1048 were all good. 1/8th oz. darthead shook lightly in 5 to 15 feet of water. Any main lake points with rock held fish. Bigger fish next to deep water on steeper rock banks. Caught 30 fish with the largest five going 9 1/2 lbs. Nothing great but alot of fun. Skiers not a problem until about 10:00. Still more than enough time to get'um though. Look for topwater to get better with the warmer weather in the forcast. Fish were chasing shad on the surface early but found throwing the worm on the light darthead got the bites just under the surface alot better than the Pop R's or Zara Spooks I tried.
City: Paso RoblesTips: Let the worm fall slowly on the light jighead and subtly shake the rod tip just a couple inches up and down. When the bite happens the line just sort of tightens up. Let the fish load up and reel set. Good Luck, Ken

Lower Otay Lake
-
Water Temp: 75 degreez
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished for bass in most of the coves on the east side, then switched to the west coves. Tried Harvey's matted grass with no luck. Found that the matted coves are the best spot to pull them in. We ended up pulling in several bass (13", 9", 16" and 12"), not sure how heavy, forgot my scale at home. We were using crankbaits at the top, nightcrawlerz on the bottom and a drop rig setup in the weedz.
City: OtayTips: Get started early in the covez, take a break during the afternoon (or fish deep), then go back to the covez in the evening...good luck, see y'all next time my fella' critterz.

Pyramid Lake
-
Water Temp: 75-76
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Was one of the first boats on the water since the lake is now open, opened July 2. While my buddy and i were wating in line we already saw some striper boils! My buddy and i first started out by fishing the sandy beaches and my first cast i caught a real small largemouth, next cast another small largemouth( i was using a zara spook puppy). So we went down the bank some more and we got one nice largemouth on a chrome black jointed rapala that my buddy was using. We hit this one side of this rip rap bank and the largemouths were all over my topwater, it was giving me bass fever!! Then right when i landed a nice bass my buddy hooked up with a 10 pound striper right at the boat and it snapped the line. After that there was a school of stripers and we started hooking up with them on zara spooks. After that fast and furious action the bite slowed down tremendously. So our best bet was to find banks with as less weeds as possible, and if we found alot of weeds, one of us would fish the inside edge and one would fish the outside edge, and both of us were using cranks. At the end of the day we ended up catching over 20 bass, but still the bite wasent as good as we thought it would be.
City: CastaicTips: There is alot of weeds!!! For your best luck fish rocky banks protected from the wind weeds, and jet skiers! Belive me this is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack! But take the time to do that and the reward will be awesome. And when fishing weed lines in the morning fish the inside of them and in the afternoon fish the outside of them with cranks.
