California Delta
-
Water Temp: 49-51
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished with Kermin on Monday out of Ladds. We had fog ALL day long and the temperature was dropping ALL day. This made fer very un-conducive conditions for someone who hadn't been on the water fer about 5 weeks. First stop on the main San Jaquine, we cranked a fish and missed a few on jigs in a protected cove along rock walls. We then ran to many places looking fer bites, even stopped in Disco to chuck fer some stripers, they were there, but mostly 3-6 pound schoolies. Then made a stop and cranked a decent fish off the meat wall before heading in.
City: OakleyTips: Fishing is slow. Most productive areas will be rock walls with sparce grass beds along the main river channels. Crank until yer arms fall off. If the sun comes out, move to the back waters and toss jigs and SENKOs on these same rocky type places.

City: FairfieldTips: Bite was very subtle with no indication sometimes other than loading up of the rod. My partner(rookie) had a very hard time hooking up. Had to watch my line very closely.

Clear Lake

Water Temp: 50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I started ishing with a client on Friday night about 8 pm. The second spot we stopped at produced 2 smaller bass, about 2 1/4 and 3 1/2, on Weapon jigs. Moved to the little rock wall by Indian Beach and missed a big ish - we could hear it roll ater I missed it. I thought it was part o a let over weed mat - ugh! It seemed like it would be a good night, but actually it wasn't - until the end! We ished several deep rock areas and only got a 5-2 and a 4-5, again, on Weapon jigs and 6" yamamoto grub trailers. My client missed 4 or 5 since he wasn't used to pressure bites. About 2:30 am I had to take him back because he was developing an upset stomach. Since I was't too tired yet, I decided to quickly try a couple o areas or the next nights trip. I started dragging my jig in a deep (20 t), lat area next to a rockpile. I don't think many olks ish this area. Slowly, my 844 Loomis started to load up, either on a big rock or a bass. I set the hook, and it jerked back - wow!!! It turned out to be a dandy, weighing in at 10 lb 2 oz! As I was netting it, I heard another boat with other crazy olks coming in, and we all managed to ind our way back through the og. The other boat had 3 o my riends in it, and they had two nice ones - 8-14 and 9-11. Ater photos all the way 'round, I took all the monsters back out in the lake to release them. What a sight in my lighted Ranger double livewell - 3 bass or nearly 30 lbs! Not an everyday (night) sight! The next night was very poor or us - in act we only landed 2 bass to 3 3/4 lbs - the slowest trip since May. One o my riends was ishing too, and didn't do well, thought he got one over 6. It was a was nice evening, with moderate temperature, but or some reaon, the ish were not active.
City: Yuba CityTips: Look or bass in deeper water now, 10 to 30 eet deep (i in the south end)! Release deep caught ish right away i you are not planned to use a needle to delate their air bladder. I still say - don't orget your jigs!!

Collins Lake
-
Water Temp: 52
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I ished Collins last Thursday morning or about 5 hours and got a total o 4 bites - but one o them was a good one! I started on a point near Elmer's Cove with a brown/orange Rodstrainer jig and soon landed a 2-5 spot. As I worked my way up the river arm, I decided this was the day I was going to try drop-shotting at Collins or the irst time. I tied a Jig on as my weight and attached a 3" Magic Reaper about 14" above the jig. I would slide the jig and try to wiggle the reaper at the same time. Ater about hal an hour, I elt the line get heavy, but no bite. I set the hook and, wow, the ight was on. I assumed the ish was on the reaper because there was no "tick". I soon landed a "at" 4 lb 6 oz spot that really looked like a largemouth. What a beautiul ish!! Shortly ater that I had another bass strip o my reaper under the powerlines. Then I ished the main body and hooked another nice bass in about 35 eet o water, and lost that one too. And that was it! Only our bites, but went home eelin' good about a great ish!
City: Yuba CityTips: Though the jig bite was slow that day, they are a good bet at Collins during the winter. So much or my theory that drop-shotting is a small ish technique. Maybe I was just lucky, too! Look or large bass o-shore on humps and ridges.

City: RosevilleTips: Water is still surprisingly warm or all o the cold weather we have had. Still some reaction ish going, but best bet is to slow down with jigs and plastics.

Report: SKUNKED! Not even trout were biting. Overall, not to many people were having much luck either. It was pretty cold out there too. Maybe that was it.
City: San JoseTips: Let the cold ront pass. I'm sure it will pick up when were all back at work, like usual.

Water Temp: cold
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Couldn't make the Bass Class due to other commitments, but managed to sneak away Saturday (Nov 25) for a little fishing out of the Hook. Started with a spinnebait in Barge cove and had a 2 lber roll on the bait right at the boat. No further hits with spinnerbait or crankbaits. Was too foggy for me to run to my best areas, so tried little and big Frank's for an hour with no luck - cranked cuts and ledges, one hit. Pitched brush hog along remaining weed lines. No bites. It was very cold and foggy, and since I had forgot my gloves I decided to head back early because my hands were freezing. Cranked, ripped, and pitched jigs on east and west sides of Turner, saw fish busting shad up on rock/tulle inside edges, but did not get a bite. Decided to finish out pitching a Senko (pumpkin/green flake, 5") in back of Barge Cove - BINGO! five solid fish from 2-3.5 lbs, broke off a better one when the hook I had already landed 3 fish on snapped in two on the set. Missed two other pressure bites - thought I was hung up, started to pull loose lure when each time the rod gets massive head shakes from something below, then gone. Still, 8 hits on the senko and five good keepers in an hour. Interestingly, 3 of these fish had healed injuries that looked like they had been caught before, which would not be too surprising in the barge cove.
City: Half Moon BayTips: Thanks to the folks who released the fish that I had the pleasure of catching again (and releasing as well.)! Fish that hit were scattered regarding depth (anything from 3 to 10 feet). Most hits were near wood. In one case I yanked a 3 lber over a log lying in the back of the cove after pitching to a small spot of open water between an old bulkhead and the log. The line was lying coiled on the log, slowly bein pulled off by the sinking Senko when I noticed a small twitch, I immediately took up slack and wham! fish on! You really had to be a line watcher and feel for pressure bites.

Oroville Lake

Water Temp: 53-54
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Spent the day ishing with Hawghunter aka Jerry Noble rom Bend Oregon. Started out ishing windy banks and points on the main body, Jerry had the irst ish on with a Wigglewart, was a 3-4 pound trout, probably a brown. Came o right at the boat as we did not have the net out and I could not convince him to lip it! In the next hour or so put 7 ish in the boat ripping a Ghost minnow color Flash monnow very slowly. at least 4 o these were over the slot. Wind died down and the rip bite did too. Went up the middle ork and tossed worms on drop shots and slider heads. Jerry had two real nice ones over 15" just dragging the slider head around with a brown orange worm. Drop shot ish came on a 9j senko and on powerworms.
City: MarysvilleTips: Fish the wind, work your reaction baits slowly.
