    Water Temp: 53 - 55

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Friday, 3/9/12. Fishing was tough for me and my buddy. The wind was calm to none all day with no clouds in the sky. The water temperature has gone up 2° in the last two weeks and is now between 53° and 55° in most areas. We ended the day with just 4 fish with one at 4¼ lbs and the rest all over 2½ lbs. The total weight of the four fish was a nice 12¼ lbs. Three were large mouth and one was a small mouth. All were caught on or around points on the East side in 10 – 15 ft of water drop-shotting 4½ and 6 inch Roboworms. There were no fish in shallow. Jerk baits and Senkos were tried with no success.
    City: Pinole

Tips: The calm clear conditions made the fishing tough.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Saturday, 2/25/12. Fishing was ok. Water temperature stayed between 51 and 53 deg and was clear to 10 ft. in most areas. In the morning, the main body had white caps thus we stayed in protected coves. As the wind died down in the afternoon, we moved north on the east side. We ended the day with 8 fish with one going almost 5 lbs. The rest were between 1 to 2½ lbs. Two of the fish were large mouth and the rest were spots. All were caught on or around points in 5 – 15 ft of water drop-shotting 4½ inch Roboworms. We also tried crank baits, jerk baits, Senkos and jigs with only a couple of unsuccessful hookups on a wacky style Senko. I also unexpectedly caught a trout on a 4 inch shad imitation Roboworm.

Tips: Fish appear to be starting the prespawn.

Report: Bass Busters of Yuba City fished a tourny out of Steel Park. Nice ramps but expensive. Great news, everyone caught fish! My day wasnt as good as the winners but I did catch 2 non keeper small mouths on drop shot, lost a good keeper SM, caught a nice spot, and then a real good smallie just about weighed 4lbs. My best smallmouth. I was stoked. All my fish came off points in 20 to 30 ft. Close to 17lbs took 1st and we had a few 16, 15, and 14 lb bags. Not sure of structure or depth from those guys but they came off of jigs, dart heads, swimbaits, dropshots, and shakey heads. Check out our club if you wanna fish a good club. Email me if interested.
    City: Plumas Lake

Tips: Nothing too agressive. Not quite a dead stick but my bites came when I wasnt working the bait much.

Report: Weak fishing at berry this weekend. We hit the morning bite between 630am and around 11 and the afternoon bite between 2 and 6PM. Tried for trout and bass primarily. Turns out its a bit too early and the water temp a bit low for good shore fishing, which is all I ever do at Berryessa. We tried everything: hardbaits, salmon eggs, spinners, senkos and even live minnows with little to no results (one bite the whole trip.) We hit the same spots as always, under both bridges, in the coves.. better luck next time I suppose. Can't wait for warming water! Anyone having any luck?

Report: There are kokanee and king salmon in Berryessa as well as Rainbow trout. Not sure of when or if it is planted. There is a kokanee project that you can see on the way out of Markley Cove. The cages on the left side at the end of the docks are for kokanee. I was there yesterday and caught 6 fish mostly on C-rigged baby brush hogs. The size was really nice with the best 5 pushing 14 lbs. We had a 4 lb spot and a 3 lb largemouth as our largest fish.

Report: Thursday, 2/16/12. Sorry for the late report. My fishing buddy convinced me to submit one with the hope of encouraging more people to write reports whether you were successful or not. I tend to only write reports about very successful days. However, both types of reports are a help to others to be successful. My and my buddy’s day fishing was not good but it was ok. All day the water temperature stayed between 51 and 53 deg and the water was clear to 10 ft. in most areas. In the morning, the main body had white caps. So we stayed in protected coves between the Capell Cove launch ramp out to the main body at Spanish Flats. We caught two spotted bass with one being just under 3 lbs. In the afternoon, the wind died down and we moved to the Big Island. Around one small island we caught 3 more fish within 15 minutes. All were on the steep sloping side of this small island. Two were small mouth and the other was a spotted bass. One small mouth was just under 3 lbs. Also, during the day we had several other bites and/or unsuccessful hookups. All fish and bites were in 10 to 20 ft of water on a very sloping bank. We tried crank baits, Senkos and jigs but only drop-shotting worked. Six-inch MM colored RoboWorms and 4-inch prism shad colored shad imitation were used. The total weight of the five fish we caught was 10 lbs.
    City: Pinole

Tips: If you catch one fish in a spot, there are usually several more there to be caught.

Report: Does anyone know if you are allowed to keep coho salmon at this lake? Also wondering where trout are planted. Which launch ramp? I guessing capell cove. Bass fishing is slow so I just figured I fish for other species.

Report: Saturday was basically a nice day at the lake. The sun and clouds took their turns but it was nice on the water. I headed out with John early afternoon and the first place we fished was in Willy's Ski School. Finding no fish activity there I changed my course to go to the Narrows. Seeing my son heading in that direction I decided to fish by the Ranch house instead. There was a lot of bait action and fish jumping but my goal was to land some fish and I thought fishing shallow would be more productive. The water was clear and we trolled far behind the boat. John landed three nice trout and a bass weighting up to 3 pounds (see photo). We tried our luck at the Vineyard too but to no avail. My son said he saw fish jumping all over the lake all day long but did not get one bite. It was a very enjoyable day. 'til next time..............................................................................................good fishing!!!!

Report: Been out working with the A rig and starting to figure it out. Still not killing them with it but it is proving to be one more tool to use. Overall the bite has been slow but the fish are starting to move. This past trip the jig bite worked the best and the fish were running a solid 3lbs and up.The reaction bite is also starting.
    City: Winters

Tips: The fish are starting to move so they are ranging from as deep as 60 to 5 feet deep. Reaction is starting and the jig bite is solid allong with the dropshot. It is a junk fishing bite watch the water temp and adjust with it.

Headed out late Friday morning hoping to hit some trout but spent most of the day trying to find them. At one point Kevin and I decided to try for catfish so I beached the boat on shore and we put out four poles using hotdogs for bait. I have caught catfish many times at this spot. We had our lunch and waited for over an hour with no signs of catfish activity. The water was a touch over fifty degrees and crystal clear. While waiting for a bite I was trying top water lures with no success and worming with a senko in fifteen feet of water produced nothing. Defeated we decided to head in and call it a day. Saturday morning with renewed enthusiasm we headed out once more adding my buddy Albert to the group. We spent most of the day trolling with no bites. My son was out fishing with his wife Sarah, my wife and his friend Bill and he called me to let me know that my wife had caught a nice size trout. That lifted our spirits and we headed towards the area they were fishing. Albert and Kevin wanted to try for catfish again but just couldn't seem to attract them. I had received some new lures from PK Products and Kevin wanted to try a count down crankbait. As soon as the lure hit the water and started to sink a trout just blasted it and he caught the first trout on my boat. We were all heading in early to watch the football game so we called it a day and were happy we had at least caught two trout. On Sunday I fished from the shore and used the new crankbait and landed a trout. I met some kayakers and told them about the lure I was using and gave it to them to test. Hoping to hear from them soon. 'til next week.........................................good fishing!!!!

    Hello Sid!

It was great meeting and talking with you at Berryessa on Sunday! As promised, here is the report for the day. Long story short, only trout were caught. Between Saturday and Sunday around 12 kayakers gave it a shot for bass and trout, but only finding the latter in a biting mood. Most bites were on worms, either tipped on needlefish, or by themselves on a dodger trolling setup. Some bites and a lot of short strikes on some shad type lures, with only a couple fish being caught. The bass were very tight lipped, even ignoring minnows, dropshots, wacky senko's, and jigs. Our friend with a bass boat found one bass willing to bite, all the way up in the Puta Creek area, but that was about it.

Thanks again so much for all the tips you gave us! Cant wait to get back up to berryessa and give them a shot! At the latest, that will be 4/21/12 for the Salmon tournament we are having. Tournament is on Sunday, but we will be arriving Friday. Feel free to come down and meet a lot of friendly kayakers and share some stories with them!
    Alan
