    Water Temp: warm

Report: Friday I took Stan and his grandson Jack out for the day. We looked for bass near the BOR to no avail. We saw a lot of boats near Big Island going for kokanee so we decided to give it a try. We had one downrigger at 55 feet and the other at 65 feet trolling for about a half hour with no luck. We headed out for the Ranch house to try our luck at bass again. Stan hooked up to a nice smallie in about 15 feet of water using a plastic crawdad. The lake was full of feeder fish but surprisingly we didn't see much top water action. When we got back to the dock Jack went for carp and caught a very large one. The morning bite was real tough but the afternoon bite was great. Dave brought his kids and their friends down to see my boat and I showed them how to fish for carp. All fifteen kids did very well. We made plans to meet on the dock again on Saturday morning. Scott had three bass take his bait but was not able to land them. Jeff landed a nice size fish. The rest of the day I spent with my family. Abe went fishing again late Saturday night and caught quite a few fish (see photo). Sunday the temperature had dropped quite a bit and there was some wind we headed out for a family day and found a nice cove to anchor in. I hoped with the cooler weather the bass might co-operate but it was still a difficult bite. Early afternoon we saw some whitecaps forming but by the time we headed in a couple of hours later it was like the ocean we got back to the dock soaking wet and chilled to the bone. All in all it was a fun weekend. 'til next week.........good fishing!!!!!! www.fishingconnection.net

    Water Temp: warm

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: This past weekend at the lake was very warm better spent swimming then fishing unless you went to Big Island for trout, salmon or kokanee which were being caught 55 to 80 feet deep. Lots of boats were trolling and catching fish. The bass on the other hand were not as obliging. The lake is full of feeder fish and with the full moon this week they have gorged themselves. On Saturday my friend Bob and I headed towards the BOR with no luck. We headed across the lake to the Ranch house and fished my two favorite points and picked up two nice smallies on River2Sea crawdads and Procure scents. It was a tough day for bass in shallow water. Sunday was a little cooler but still the bass were not cooperating. In the evening Abe and his girlfriend and a few friends went for catfish and landed a couple on hotdogs. They also caught a large carp and a couple of crappies. During the week I went rock fishing out of Emeryville on the "Happy Hooker" and caught 53 rock fish and 1 undersize lingcod. What a difference in temperature from the ocean to the lake. I'll take the lake anytime!!!! 'til next week................good fishing!!!!!!!!!!! www.fishingconnection.net If you have any fishing stories you would like to share please email me at

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: The weather has been very warm at the lake for the past couple of weeks and this makes the fish act different. For example, Tony and his father Mike went out with me last Friday at noon Tony was throwing topwater and landed this 3lb bass (see picture) and Mike at the end of the day landed this 17lb catfish on the surface. In between the fishing was sporadic. I went out that evening to my favorite cove, where the water is disappearing rapidly, and topwater was what worked for me. The following day we landed alot of catfish and alot of carp. Fishing with my friend Willie one of his students caught two carp in a few minutes time on very light equipment. Those who never tried fishing for carp before should try it at least once. They put up quite a fight on light tackle. A week ago my neighbor's daughter at the dock caught this large crappie (almost 3lbs see photo). A couple of years ago this young girl caught her first carp with me and now she loves to fish and does very well. Abe's girlfriend caught her first catfish at night using hotdogs. Good job!!!! These young ladies wouldn't touch the fish but didn't mind holding the net to show their catch. All in all it was pretty productive and as always alot of fun. 'til next week............good fishing!!!

    Water Temp: 80-84

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Had a very nice guide trip yesterday at Berryessa - weather was hot but the fishing was at least warm. We started out of Steele Park with topwater and got a few with one of the fellow missing a good one! We then ran up to the Big Island area and threw worms and jigs. The 4 and 6 inch Robo worms worked well with morning dawn and prizm shad leading the way. We did some drop-shotting in 30 feet of water with Basstrix flashtrix minnows. We were targeting any off-shore drop-off we could find - most held some nice bass, including smallies to 2 1/2 lbs and largemouth to 2 lbs 2 oz. We only caught one dink spot and the other was about 2 1/4 lbs - nice fish. We caught well over 20 bass with a nice limit of 10+ lbs.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Topwater is still happening but with the now very warm water it may slow. Mornings should offer the best bite now since the water is in the 80's. The jig bite was kind of slow yesterday though we did get a few. We looked for bait and bass on the X-26 and then dropped a drop-shot or worm to them and they ate. Our best bite surprisingly was 11 am to 1 pm.

    Water Temp: 76-80 F

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched out of Markley around 5:30 am fished til 3:00 pm was tired from the day before at Oroville and it was hot. Started off in the north side of the lake with a jig that was producing the day before with very little luck. My partner threw his kalins grub and was nailing them. So I switched to the good old drop shot with my favorite robo worm color and started to catch alot of fish. We moved around alot fished Putah creek a little past the 5 mph and caught quite a few in there no size though. Moved over to Portugese cove and it was on fire. I never caught so many LM at this lake I mainly catch SM and spots. We ended up with about 50 fish biggest one was a nice 5lb LM that couldnt resist my robo worm.
    City: Roseville

Tips: Keep switching it up I tried everything, topwater in the morning. I was also throwing my new huddleston shad with no luck. jig with very little action. The drop shot seemed to be the ticket today. I caught most of my fish in the inside bend on all points leading into coves if there was a mud line it seemed to be better.

    Water Temp: 76 surface

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Thanks again to those who provided tips on Night fishing! I did give it a shot Friday 11pm-3am, and did OK, no size, but it was cool to catch fish on blades at night! No real size, 1-2lb, and a few 2-3lb on big worms, nothing on jig or slammer. The next evening bite was much better, my girlfriend tore em up on bigger worms and while I hit and missed on a popper for lots of 2-3lb blacks and a few smallies(one 3lbr on the popper). She lost a solid 5+ when it dug deep into the weeds on 8lb line and spin rod, and I lost one about the same when it jumped and threw the popper. The next morning was much slower, but still managed a dozen or so up to 3lb on worms, and also a big catfish on a plastic worm! Even with the all the lake lice and idiots on PWC's buzzing within 10' of swimmers, moored boats, and me fishing...the fishing was excellent and only saw one other bass boat the whole time.
    City: SF

Tips: Few on Buzzbait, sammy, and prop bait, but small popper had more and bigger bites. N o need for 4" handpours this time, fish were hammering 6-9" worms. Jig, BBH's, Spider grubs got bit, but nothing like the big worms texas style and shakey heads.

    Water Temp: warmmmmmmmmm

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: On Friday afternoon I took Peter and his three sons, Andrew (age 11), Stephen and Thomas (ages 7) no you are not seeing double they are twins to teach them how to catch fish. Peter told me they had been out numerous times but had never caught any fish. They had been out this morning for a few hours with no luck at all. Andrew was able to cast and retrieve which helped quite a bit. I teach most kids how to cast from the dock before we go out. Each child brought in his own fish when we went to my favorite cove. It took a little while for them to figure out what was a fish and what was grass but they got the hang of it. It turned out to be a very successful day as you can see by the photo. These boys will definitely turn out to be fishermen. Saturday I took Bob (#1 salesman for River2Sea) out for the day. We tested alot of River2Sea new products and they were all successful. We started out by the Ranch house and worked our way back to my favorite cove landing fish. When we got back to the dock, I had him bring in a couple of carp on very light tackle and he had a blast. We stayed out till dark and caught some bass in rocky areas that were feeding on crawdads. Sunday I fished by myself in my favorite cove. Top water didn't work for me, crawdads did ok but brass and glass with a 4/0 wide gap red hook with 6# Pline and a rootbeer senko was the secret weapon of the day. All and all it was a great fishing weekend. 'til next week.......................good fishing!!!!!!

Report: The fishing just gets better and better. Fished for bass Friday and Saturday during the day and it was great. Saturday evening my wife and I went out from about 5 PM to almost 10 PM. I caught a 4.5 lb bass, 6 lb bass and then an 8 lb bass all on a River2Sea crawdad and you guessed it we didn't bring the camera. My wife took a picture of me holding the 8 lb bass on my cell phone and we have to find out how to download it. Of all the times to forget my camera!!!! My wife tried a new bait a River2Sea weedless crawdad with Procure crawdad gel and after getting the hang of it she landed a couple of nice bass in the 2 to 3 lb range. A few fish were caught on topwater but this weekend it wasn't as active as last. Catfish would not cooperate with me and I used everything I could think of. Sunday I fished on the dock while working on my boat and I showed Liliana & Marcus D. and their dad how to catch carp. Marcus who is 3 years old and Liliana who is almost 5 years old each caught their first fish ever. Later that day when I came back from fishing the dad was on the dock with the boys in the attached photo Dominic & Dylan S. fishing for carp and as I watched each boy landed a good size carp and this time I had my camera. Don't forget next week is Father's Day so take your dad fishing.

Report: I had a busy weekend at the lake. Friday I took out a group of seven guys on a pontoon boat. They were all eager to learn how to catch bass. Bob was the captain and did a great job navigating the boat. Since we were all fishing from one boat, I decided that the area near the ranch house would be ideal because we could fish from all sides of the boat and everyone had a good chance to land fish. We had everyone using plastic worms on one side and those casting crankbait and topwater baits were in the front and back of the boat. This worked out great. A shallow diving crankbait was the hit of the day. He landed three nice size bass in a short span of time. The guy throwing topwater lures did great too. Later in the day we switched to lessons on catching catfish and carp. They were all very good pupils. I look forward to taking them all out again next summer. That evening I took out Dan and his lovely wife to my favorite cove. I wanted Dan to fish topwater and told him that when the sun started to set would be an ideal time. I had him throw a white chugger many times. He began to get bored with it and asked if he could change to another bait. I told him to throw at a target near shore and he got close. The bass exploded on it and for the balance of the night he stayed with the topwater lure getting more confident and more bites. Saturday morning I had another group consisting of a groom and his father along with his friends (the wedding was later that day). We went to Spanish Flat to rent another boat for two of the fellows and the other three fished on my boat. We headed for the ranch house again. Brian, who is a very good fisherman, caught fish with whatever lures I have him to use. The first one was a chugger and on his second cast he landed a nice bass. It was another successful day with everyone landing fish and having a great time. Sunday I spent a few hours at the dock showing some kids how to catch carp and we were very successful. 'til next week...........................good fishing!!!!!!

Memorial weekend was fabulous at the lake. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting. I fished from the dock on Friday and caught alot of carp. Saturday early morning Stefan from San Jose joined me for a day of fishing and fun on the lake. We headed out towards the second point near the BOR. We fished from the shore and after having shown Stefan how to fish a weightless senko in watermelon red with a red wide gap hook he showed me how to catch a couple of whoppers. One bass weighed in at 3.7 lbs and the other was 4.2 lbs. His total weight for five bass was 14.8 lbs. My family joined us to BBQ and when they saw how he was bringing in the big ones they all got inspired to try their luck. Even with the water temperature still in the high 60's (a little nippy) it was refreshing to get in as the sun got hotter and hotter. I had set-up my usual catfish pole with a hotdog and we landed a nice size catfish. Sunday we found a nice quiet cove near the Narrows and spent most of the day just lazing around and BBQing. I set-up a couple of poles with hotdogs and most of the afternoon was spent reeling in catfish. We ended up with lots of catfish. We even caught a bass on the hotdog bait and a sqaw fish. Monday we headed back to the cove we were in on Saturday but the bass we caught were not as large 1.5 and 2 lb. fish. Dan and Megan friends of my son and his wife caught alot of catfish (see picture). Even young kids love to catch catfish and carp (see picture). It was a great weekend all the way around and the fishing should only get better and better. 'til next week...............good fishing!!!!
