Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Well did about the same time on the lake as yesterday. Only managaed two today, went left of the launch ramp i guess that would be east, total waste of time, i got one hit and that all the way back in the creek at the stables. Threw everything that worked yesterday an then some, didn't get a thing til i got back ou tto the main lake, two both about two lbs bac k to back casts on a split shot rig across from the launch ramp around 3. Tried to get some crappie driftin minnows no luck, i'm just not patient enough or something. Alot warmer and sunnier than yesterday.

Tips: 20lb Carp mating???? all over the shallows in the back, i imagine it drives the bass away probably dont want they're eggs eaten. Maybe stay away from the area.

Got another lber split shottin, an a dink on a hula grub. The better 4 were shallow, not as productive as i had hoped but seems like it was better than most others i talked to. The weather just hasnt been right, overcast all day 0 wind until 4 or so. Reckon ill be out there tomorrow too, say how do.

Report: Fantastic day. Went to left of entrance at that shallower end of lake. Fished Jigs and plastics and pounded them... got a couple on jerkbaits, but only shallow baits(0-2ft). Too much grass to use deeper ones. Plastic the ticket. Started at about 815 and by Noon had 2 limits. Nice fish in the 2-3 lb class (weighed on Berkley scale - they looked bigger to be honest). Bite was good all day, split at 3 caught 16 fish and only 1 small fish under 12"; Caught fish in 1.5 to 3.5lbs basically all day. Want to come back in boat for more.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Some pickups on longer pauses. Some hit on fall. I also moved around a lot and went back to areas i had bites and got bit again.

    Water Temp: 56-58

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Good fishing today. Fished 4-5 hours and between the two of us had around 12 fish. Talked to some boats with others catching good and many fish as well. Fish are up and eating! Even with the cold front fishing was good.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Today winning baits were hula grub, drop shotted robos, and cranks. That pattern has been prolific for the last month.

    Water Temp: 52-56

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Lake looked phenomenal with the water level up. Fished 2/25 out of the boat. Water started at 52 and was up to 55 by 2. Bite was slow but quality was there. 3-1/2, 4, couple of 2's. All weighed on the digi scale. Plastics. All fish were shallow in 10 or less. Went back on Sunday on foot for a few hours with some minnows and doubled up on 3-1/2 lbers, a 4lb fish and a solid 5.0. 2 were starting to show signs of eggs, others nothing... its starting. Treat 'em gently, grab a pic and get 'em back.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: We fished slow, we caught fish. Usually around grass in 8-10ft. Nothing on reaction baits yet.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Wow what a great day of fishin, I caught 2 carp, 8 bass and a COLD! Right on!
Let the carp rod sit while I walked the shore for bass for the hell of it, almost lost my pole on the second one even though I anchored it tight, the thing was about 15 lbs so I wasnt surprised.
Hit ALL of the bass in coves seeking cover, the are holding tight to cover so you gotta go looking for them. Winter slows down the metabolism and they were sluggish on the fight. I know this because I worked for In Fisherman for 13 years, so Im better than you too.
    Tight lines suckas!
    City: Santa Clara

Tips: Use jigs, use jigs, use worms.
Really anything to knock them on the head and get the bass-turds to bite cause they aint gonna chase it!

    Water Temp: 61-62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Skunked. Windy all day. Water was stained to muddy. Lake was very low. Wanted a crankbait fish unfortunately stuck with them too long. Tried Lucky Craft Skeet Reese in Chartruese Shad, Norman Lil N in Natural Shad Norman DD22 in Red and Black and Bomber in orange and red, also tried a 5" Big Hammer in Wookie Wacker. No takers. When I finally I realized I might be in trouble I switched to darthead grubs, split-shot Robo Worm in OxBlood with red flake and C-rigged Baby Brushhog in green pumpkin. Not a bite.

Spoke with another fisherman at the ramp on departure (3:30 pm) and they did equally badly.

    Just a dues paying day.

Report: Have not seen a report here for Calero, so decided to check it out on my own. Made a visit to folks in San Jose, but on the way back spent a few hours walking bank at Calero. Hardly anyone there. Fished from 3-5:30pm and caught 5 fish. First one was a nice 3lb fish caught on a Yamamoto Hula Grub. Caught it less than 7 feet from bank. I got many hits close - like a foot or more from bank... thought they were panfish until i connected with one... a nice little 1-1/2lb fish. Switched out to a baby brush hog - caught 2 more. Went to a worm and caught a couple more. A few further out, but most fish literally 2-3 ft from shore in shallow water. Saw lots of baitfish and birds and fished those areas. Tried frogs in weeds, but no takers. Plastics the ticket. Can't wait to come back in the B-Boat for a full day of action.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Shallow. Plastics. I worked them faster than usual and that was the ticket. The cooler nights is turning this lake back on. In about 3-4 weeks, this place will be rocking with the full on fall bite.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished for 4 hours Monday morning. Picked up a couple of whopper crappies while trolling crankbaits opposite the ramp, but other than that, not much happening. A couple of undersized bass on nightcrawlers the rest of the morning. No action on Senkos. Lots of heavy weeds all over the lake - summer is here.

Report: Had the best day at Calero nailing 11 fish within 3 hours! Focused on the east end of the lake working crankbaits around the weeds.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Cloudy day. Nothing on topwater but once I dropped to a shallow running crankbait, it was on!

Report: That's unfortunate that you were skunked at the C...However I wouldn't give up on the lake, the fish are there for sure!!! Many of the fish here are Coyote quality bass. If we wait until the water cools, we would have to wait til next fall! The water has been rising significantly over the past few weeks, pushing the fish out to deeper water. Until the water levels off, try fishing in 10-20 feet of water. I had a decent day today after figuring out the depth the fish were holding.

Report: Don't waste your time. Got to Calero around 10am because I went to Anderson first and didn't know you have to have reservations on the weekend if you want ot get in before noon. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. So Ran over to Calero and no one was there. Fished ofor 3 hours and nothing. Not even a bite and i didn't see anyone catch anything other than weeds. Saw 4 dead fish thats it. The water at all these lake are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to hot now. 73 degrees. Gez thats a heated swimming pool. Wait for a while or go up to Berryessa where that water is cooler. This was my first tiome at Calero and probably my last. Small lake and kinda boring lake. Thats fishing though.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Wait for water to cool.

    Water Temp: 66

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Great Day weather wise on the lake. Figured with it being Mothers day, it may not be too terribly crowded. I was right; got there at 8:15, and i was the first boat in. I don't know all the names of the areas because i'm relatively new to fishing Calero. But, started in the 5mph area across from ramp and around that big point and fished back into that big cove on the left. I also had committed to using swimbaits and carolina rigs to work on my technique with those baits. When i say swimbaits, i'm not talking the 40$ versions, just the 10 dollar packs of the new Berkely swimbaits in baby bass looking pattern, 5". Also used 4" Money Minnow. Good choiced. About an hour in, i was checking the action of the bigger Berkely bait near the boat and watched it fall... BAM, big bass came up and smoked it right by the boat - i mean he was quick; flash of white, he had it. 3.7lbs. Hey Now! Got some other hits on the carolina rig, broke an old rod on a hookset and went back to the swimmer. When the wind was up, grabbed another nice one on a wind blown point. Fun lake, nice quality fish. Would love some more tips to increase the catch rate here.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Sunscreen. My knees are fried. Have a good attitude, jet-skiers are a bunch of rude ass wipes. Buzzing around an area i'm fishing getting within 15 yards of me and the boat creating his own waves to play with. I get it, i'm in open water, but with the whole lake at your disposal and me in a 50 yard stretch? C'mon!

    Water Temp: 67-69 degrees

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I never though I would say this in April, but it sort of sucked. 2 bites, 1 fish all day. Although it was 4 lbs. I was reaching for my camera and he sort of shook, and i dropped him (or her) back in -- before i could even weigh it on this cool new digital scale i just bought. To the Report: I started fishing points in about 16-20 feet of water casting to the bank and working back... varying my boat position so i could cast in and work out and parallel at different depths. Never fishing there in my boat before, it was basically new water for me. Found some great spots with grass and weeds - but they produced nothing. I used crankbaits - 40 casts then switch up is my usual move until i figure out a pattern or a bait they like. (Jimmy Houston gave me that tip in February after I interviewed him) I moved to other areas, other depths and nothing! I did see lots of crappie swimming near the surface (not schooling, but singular crappie - nice size) I did see dead ones too as Papa John mentioned. Marked crappie on depth finders too, but they weren't biting. Finally, remembering a tip from this forum, I moved on to the shallow flats between dams. Finally... a hook up in about 3-5 feet of water, close to bank on a Yamamoto double tail grub in green weenie color. Nice fish - 4lbs. I did hook another close by about an hour later, but broke off at boat. Super slow.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Typically, i can key in on a pattern in a few hours; not this outing. It was tough. Weather was killer - no wind from about 12 - 2; ultra stillness. That is actually when i caught the fish. Most guys i talked to said it was slow and all plastic or finesse. No reaction bites at all (as indicated by Papa John). First time i went through the mussle inspection Bull-****, and it was just fine.

Anybody know what is up with the crappie? Dead ones floating, close to top swimmers all appeared to have big white splotchy stuff on their bodies... gross. And the Jet Skiers are pricks. They have the whole lake and insist on buzzing right by the fisherman. Go during the week to avoid the idiots.

    Water Temp: 65-70

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Slow. Fred and I caught 7 fishing from 8am-4pm, largest 2.5. One on a senko the rest on C-Rigged BBrushHogs and worms. No spin, crank or swimbait action.

Lots of dead crappie floating on the lake. An osprey and an eagle and of course the vultures seemed to be taking advantage of the free meals.

Just fisherman till around 11:00 then the wakeboarders and jetskiers came out pretty thick.

While fishing the shallow east end, saw lots of dead fry floating on the surface.
    City: Monterey

Tips: C-Rigged Baby Brushhogs in watermelon on main lake banks seemed to provide the best results.

Report: With Lake Anderson closed due to lack of staff for the mussel inspections, Richard and I had no choice but to go to Calero Reservoir. Starting off at the back of Bailey Cove, we threw spinnerbaits and jigs but had no luck. The water was quite dirty due to the run off from the storms we had last week. Around 10am, we made a move to the flats located between the two damns. The water clarity here is much better, about 2-3 feet. Richard throws out a tube on a 7
