Report: Shane - read the tips section o this report! I showed a good angler what night ishing was about last night - his irst time! He proved right away he is a very good late aternoon angler ater I suggested that he try drop-shotting the Basstrix perch minnow. Well, the irst place we stopped at Sea Breeze he nails a 7-2, WOW!! Happy guide already!!! That is two big bass in a week or clients on that bait. We moved over to the Buckingham area beore dark and I tried pitching my chartreuse jig with chartreuse Yamamoto grub single tail and saw my line move away rom the wall we were ishing. It was 4-10. Ater dark we ishing several areas and caught a 5-1 and a 4-2 on junebug Dead Ringers. We caught several other 1 to 2 1/4 pounders on a nice evening. We had to work or our ish but wound up with a 22 1/4 limit, catching most o them on rock structure in the south end. We packed it in a 3 am. Ater a great night's sleep o 3 1/2 hours, I met 2 clients at Konocti Resort at 8:30 am or a un day o seeing lots o ish rom 5 inches to over 10 pounds and even catching some o them! Not only did the 2001 spawn make it - so did the 2002 spawn! Small bass everywhere (how Clear Lake has changed!) and we had un catching bass up to 2 pounds on Senkos - color #221 being the best. It was time to look or bigger ish and we ound several pairs on beds in Konocti Bay. Interestingly, The really big ish - over 8 pounds were roaming - not bedding. Anyway - one o the clients pitched his 221 Senko to a rock two were spawning on and got the emale to eat it! It was just under 5 pounds. The other ellow wasn't so ortunate. We put the emale in the livewell so he could work on the male that was over 4 pounds. I had him use my chartreuse jig and his missed the male twice. Finally the bass picks up the jig and swims away. I am going nuts - where is the hook-set? The answer - client didn't engage the reel. I said "oh" - trying to remain calm! We went on to another area - came back and he hooked it again - this time it jumped a oot out o the water - and that was that. We continued to throw Senkos and jigs and the man who caught the emale was doing well casting under docks. He saw a good ish - watched it take his Senko - got a good hook-set and brought out a 6 pounder - it jumped and that was that! We did have a un day in spite o lost ish - caught a lot o bass - and the clients said they learned a lot - that is good enough or me! Hope you can read this - I'm not sure I'm awake!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The spawn is underway big-time in the south end - bass and carp! The algae bloom has spread to the south end so it will be hard to see ish early and late in the day. I you want to sight ish - look or lat rocks in the middle o tule beds - there should be some bass nearby. With the lake so high - many o the spawners simply can't be reached and that is good. I you do catch a sight ish, please release it where you caught it - even i you put one in the livewell or a ew minutes. With the sun high now, look or shade in the aternoons. Shane - i you come to Clear Lake in June, there may still be some spawning going on this year and most bass will be in post-spawn mode. Look or them suspended under docks. Try rip-baits and topwater early and late in the day. Frogs will work sometimes. Good luck!!

Report: Took a ather-son team out o Lakeport and started in the keys around 10:30 am. I had the son drop-shotting a Basstrix perch minnow in the middle o a ew big bass and one o them ate it! It was touch and go - but a nice 8 pounder! Dad caught a 4-2 on a chartreuse lizard and I got a 4-5 on a chartreuse jig. I needed to show them several new areas to ish - which I did. We got several Senko ish in Corinthian Bay but no big ones. Best color was #221 - one o my avorites. I think we wound up with around 19 pounds or our ive biggest. I drove to Konocti Inn ater dinner to try a ew hours o night ishing and ound it to be surprisingly slow. I got a 5 and a 4-3 on jigs - it was really dead on a beautiul night - go igure. I only ished a ew spots but the ish were where I wasn't! My client or the next day had a amily emergency so I went out mysel the next day and did a little sight ishing or un, landing 5 or 6 - but only 2 between 4 and 4 1/2 pounds. I moved north o Lakeport near Willow Point and tried some walls with a little weed cover. Throwing a chartreuse jig I landed a 2 pounder and then threw it to the next wall that had a shadow. I thought I saw a bass roll near it (about 6 eet o water) and then saw my line twitch. I set the hook and what a surprise - about 7 pounds!! That is so much more rewarding than sight-ishing!!!! I saw several suspended ish under docks - nothing too huge however. I was just too tired to make another cast and let about 2 pm. I think I caught about 8 bass - again about an 18 to 19 pound limit. Boy, the wind was something else when I let - the irst "delta breeze" o the summer.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: It was un to see emale bass run some 15 to 20 pound carp o their nests. In hindsight I should have thrown swimbaits at these bass. There was quite an algae bloom during the week - summer may be near!

Report: Finally, two days o great weather, winds calm. Boated 47 ish rom 1lbs to 6lbs. 90% came rom drop shotting 4 to 10 t o water. Lost two huge ish back to back the irst morning. Fish are tight in the tules in shallower water and o on secondary ledges in deeper water. Some bass are bedding, a lot starting to move. Ater tomorrow's storm hopeully things will stablize, the emales I caught were busting at the seams waiting to spawn all were clean and have not been hen pecked yet.
    City: Lakeport

Tips: Drop shot 3 inch plastics 12 to 14 inches above the weight, 6 to 8 lb test. Shake and pause then watch or your line to just start moving.

Report: The previous 2 posters summed it up or ClearLake this past weekend - tougher than nails! This past week o cold weather really shut things down. I too only had 1/2 dozen bites/ish or 2 days o ishing. They came on rip bait, senko, and my best ish (6lbs) on a pig-n-jig. Good news is that Saturday was quite warm and I saw (and caught) bed ish on Sunday. It is going to turn on hard once there are a ew days o warm weather.

Saw some guys catching dinks on small cranks and drop shots in the shallows between docks. I've been ishing this lake or years and still seem to have trouble in late winter/early spring inding bigger ish.

Report: Lauched out o Lakeport on Thursday Feb 27 in bright sunlight and 32 degree air temp. Headed to mouth o Rodman where we heard the ish were staging or the up coming spawn. We ished (3 o us) rom 7:30 to 4:30 in the aternoon throwing every thing that we were told and sold-not a touch. While we were pulling out o marina a local gave us a tip that i believe others had held out on us- the ish had actually moved into Rodman slough and spinner baits in the muddy water was the key. Friday morning headed to Rodman Slough only problem og slowed the trip arrived about 9:oo and began working both sides o slough. Caught and returned 9 ish with best 5 or about 20#'s. We don't ish tourneys any more just there to enjoy a little ishing with riends and couple days away rom work-I believe there would be better reports i everyone wasn't so interested in "protecting thier water" Thanks to the local or giving us some real ino.

Report: Incredible weather or Jan. By 10am on Sun I had already stripped out o my thermals and snow suit and just wore sweat pants and a windbreaker the rest o the day. Unortunately, the ish took a while or us to igure out. Tried all our usual spots, points, deep water structure, rock piles with only 4 2-3lb ish to show or the irst ive hours. Then Bob at Limit Out said the big ish on sat were very shallow, enjoying the warm weather no doubt. So we went to a trusty shallow water spot with lots o sun and boulders and it was on again. Boated about 20 ish, mostly 3's and 4's. Best ive went 27.14 with the two biggest at 6.8 and 6.13. By late aternoon I marked water temps up to 56 aroun the shallow rocks.Sun we headed straight or shallow water. Never went deeper than 10 eet and all the big ones came rom 5 eet or less. Boated another 20 or so (we lost count) in hal a day. Not a single ish under 3 lbs. Best ive went 29.1 and the two biggest were 7.8 and 6.0.

    City: TRACY

Tips: All on jumbo minnows. Most came 15-20 eet down with a ew as deep as 30. Ater being outished two days in a row, I'm starting to think my girlriend should teach me how to ish and I should sit in the back o the boat.

Report: SCBBBC (www.scbbbc.homestead.com) held our TOC over the weekend and did airly well considering the minnow ishing pressure o the top spots on the lake. The top three anglers all had over 25lbs (5 ish limit each day) and came on a varity o lures rom jigs to trout plugs. Big ish or day 1 was 6.82 lbs and day 2 was 6.54. Many other ish in the 4-6 lb range were also caught. We had several anglers have 20 - 40 ish days but most were smaller. Our second place angler only brought 6 ish to the scale but they averaged 4.5 lbs each.
    City: San Francisco

Tips: Almost everything is working, just have to ind the active ish. Cranks, jigs, swimbaits and jerkbaits accounted or the majority o the ish caught

Report: Found our ish at night on points and rock piles 10-20 eet deep. Tried 10" power worms, 8" ringworms, power pulse worms, big dippers but the plastics just didn't cut it this trip. Bites were ew and ar between and those boated weren't the ones we were ater. Although, I did break o a solid bite on the hook set (was just being lazy and didn't re-tie ater the last snag) so who knows about that one. Slow rolling magnum sized black spinner baits and swimming jigs with large curl tails produced well, our good uns' ranging rom 4.9 to 5.8 and three 2.9-3.2lb ish. Not a single dink on that pattern. Not much success deep cranking (nite or day) save or a 2.1 lb crappie and a ew little bass. Attempted to lip some o the cannals up north sat morning but was only met with more little ones...the lake is pretty low right now and most o the cannals are very shallow. Sun morning beore we hit the road decided to just have un and catch a bunch o the rat-l-trap bass that every one keeps talking about. It worked, shallow weeds and 1/4 once crome/blue traps and both my girlriend and her son were nailing ish ater ish (10" - 13" ish that is). I inally broke down, tied on a 3" pointer and started rippin'. First "just or un" ish or me, a chunky 7.6 that hit right at the boat in 2 1/2 eet o water. Wow! O the water beore 10am with another 2 dozen (at least, maybe more) 10"-13" rip and trap ish. Best ive or the trip went just about 27 1/2lbs, best seven went about 33 1/2lbs.
    City: TRACY

Tips: The reaction bite is on. Only, it's hard to ind the better ish ones with so many little ones out there.

Report: Fish Friday aternoon, all Saturday and all Monday. Friday aternoon ound ish on the outside o docks in Soda Bay. Most ish under 2# but got one at 4.4#. Came on senkos in 297 and 240.Saturday tried buzzbaits in ront o State Park or no bite. Switched to rattle trap in chrome/blue or several ish to 2# and one to 3.5#. Moved to the ront o the keyes and picked up at least 25 ish (most in the 13-14" range but several to 2#) on the trap ished over shallow submerged weeds. Several 3# ish ollowed the smaller hooked ish to the boat but we couldn't get them to bite.Monday ished the north end o the lake starting with a buzzbait in several bays or no bite. Back to the trap and picked up about 10 more ish, most 14" but several in the 2+# range. One ish at 3# on a 5" swimbait.
    City: Redding, Ca

Tips: Water cool in morning, warming to above 70 in aternoon. Traps produced quantity o ish although not much in size. No topwater at all. Heard the buzzbait bite picked up right at dark. We were o the water by 6 pm each day so missed that bite.

Report: What a tough act to ollow! Took over where Cooch let o, ished with Jonathan Ashcrat to help round out his vacation experience on Clearlake. Fished the north end, timber, tules, and weed mats. We had a good 4 pound average cranking, lipping, roggin. Frog bite was cool, 6 blow ups in 30 minutes, then they shut down. Spent the heat o the day in sloughs lipping and cranking some very healthy ish. Cooch taught Jonathan well, he was the hot stick with the jig!!!

Tips: bang them cranks around in the timber, then lip the same water really slow.
