Water Temp: 50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Spent an afternoon out today from 1-4:30. Caught 3 2lbers right in the first 20 minutes of fishing...I got one of them on my first cast! The bite died after that, and I finally hooked, and lost one around 3lbs about 2 hours later by the spillway. So 4 hooked, and 3 2lbers landed...still not a bad day though. I was using a texas rigged purple zipper worm and also threw a jig without luck.
City: San MateoTips: Fish slow, the fish are still on a very light bite!!!

Report: Started out fishin last Thursday in the back of a dead end slough, normally a great winter time spot fer me the last couple of years. I was hell bent on catchin some fish in the AM, as I haven't had any success doing so till after 11:00a since early December. Thursday turned out to be no different. I through every jig in my arsenal. I split shot 5 color worms and I dropped shot the deep holes. NADA! I then move to some shallow & deeper grass flats to 8' feet and cranked my favorite Mann's lipless crank, and a baby Speed Trap. Nothin. 3.5 hours and not a single bite. At 11:00a I headed on down the San Jaquine near Ladds, pulled up on a rock wall and grabbed my 7A Red Bomber. BINGO! 3 pounder. I fished on and off, around and about that main river all the way to Venice Island. Caught a total of 14 keepers from 2.5 pounds up to and including four fish over 5 pounds. I can't say that I've ever run into this kinda fishing, in December & January, over the years, maybe because I overlooked it, (NOT!) but it's still working. Get on them river levees and crankem in the afternooon. I think I'll do myself a favor and sleep in next trip.

Report: Arrived at the banks of Whiskey Slough around 4pm. The rain was pretty heavy at times though it didn't last very long. My friend Jim and I put out several baits and rigs: Anchovie, Mud Suckers, Grass Shrimp, and till dusk I was throwing a fat A crankbait, and a similer crawdad crank. After 6 hours of fishing we didn't get a single bite. We relocated twice but it didn't help. Although the fishing wasn't good at all the time just to relax an talk about old times made it worth the trip. Anyway, that's my report...good luck to all of you. Troy

Report: I thought the ishing would be a little tougher on Monday, ater a weekend o usual tournament pressure - it was. Client and I managed to land 10 out o 16 bites in the South Fork. First ish was a beautiul 15 1/4 inch smallmouth - almost like the ol' days! All o our ish were over 13 inches with 5 over 15 inches - biggest a 2 1/4 lb spot. All were caught on my avorite bait - 3/8 oz Rodstrainer brn/orng jig with #180 Yamamoto 5" twin tail grub. A ew good hits, but most were pressure bites at 30 to 40 eet. A slight lat with small chunk rock was holding quality ish. These were on points and walls. Boy, inding these areas is hard work since the lake hasn't been this low in several years. Fished worms or awhile, but the quality o the jig ish was too much un!
City: Yuba CityTips: Fish jigs very slow with requent pauses. Deadsticking does seem to me to get attention o quality ish.

Report: Fished the Hook tournament Sunday, My partner and I took 3rd place, 7 fish 21.13 lbs. Of course my partner stuck the 5.66Lb blackbass, I did contribute a couple 3s and 2s in the weight. Fished outside the break in deep weedbeds.Threw the dark green Yomomoto spider looking grub thing, with a 1/8oz jig head, heavier depending on wind.
City: ConcordTips: FISH IT SLOW WITH SHORT PULLS, SET HOOK ON EVERYTHING THAT FEELS DIFFERENT ( MUSHBITES) P.S YOU DID'NT THINK I WOULD HAVE STUCK THE 5.66 LB BASS, IF I DID I WOULD HAVE TO THINK ABOUT CHANGING MY NAME (babybass)

Water Temp: 48-50

Report: Bite seems to have improved a little with the water warming. 4 fish today for 11.55#. Early in the AM flipped a couple of 3.5-4#s in about 4 feet of water in tules. Had several other bites in same area but straitened the hook on a couple. OH well! learned something new. The two other fish came off a drop shot rig (Thanks Bob) and a crank bait out of 10 feet of water. Fished Big Break and Middle River.
City: BrentwoodTips: I am liking white crank baits and brown plastics. Water warmed about 4 degrees this week and the fish seem to be moving shallower and getting more active.
