Water Temp: 65
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Guys trip to Shasta on October 28th and 29th. Fished for bass all day long on Saturday. Fish finder said they were there, but we tried plastic (twin tail grubs; worms; etc), crank baits; drop shot; umbrella rig with little success. Four fish in 8 hours and none bigger than a pound. Spoke to a local and he said he had same results.
Changed focus and went up Sacramento arm toward river on Sunday. We changed tackle and fished for trout (sorry, we are traitors). We could not miss. 34 fish in four hours for the 4 of us. (We released them all). Large one at about 2.5 pounds. Best tackle was the good ole cast master. Had a strike on almost every cast. Trolled back to the boat ramp and picked up 6 more fish.
A fantastic day!Tips: Fish for what's biting! Sometimes the best tackle is the old tackle.

Walnut Grove Fishing Report
Slower Salmon reports in the area with light rain and temperatures more fall like. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. Bank anglers using liver’s and cut baits prevail for those searching for Stripers. The Sacramento Turning Basin is still decent here as there continues to be stripes caught there by lure tossers. Hair jigs and small shad patterns are the top choices here as well..
Discovery Bay Fishing Report
Bass pushing the 3 to 4 pounds mark are showing on occasion Prank Poppers and swim jigs are the best for numbers . Plenty of stripers are in the area as well. Stripes grabbing P-Line Angry Eyes and Savage prey Baits. Stick with the Reaction baits tied on as Crankbaits and blades are scoring bass on the main runway rock walls.
Franks Tract Fishing Report
Striped bass and plenty of bait building in the area. Top Water And swim baits are key for lure tossing anglers. Drifting Bluegill and Minnows are the key for Stripers. Black Bass Anglers spinnerbaits and swim jigs also work well.
West Delta Fishing Report
Wow Sturgeon are surging! Many tags filled with Roe and Eel. Broad Slough and Pittsburg PG&E leading the charge. Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Anchovies and Sardines are finding fun action. Anglers in search of stripers are finding the bite to be decent but still those who stick with it are getting keepers to 12 pounds on occasion from both boat and bank. Bass Bite stays solid in the Break and surrounding cuts. Honker Bay to the Broad Slough provide anglers more and more better Stripers each day!
South Delta Fishing Report
Bandit 200 series and spinnerbaits are key for Bass. Bait Anglers are catching catfish and panfish throughout the area, While cutbaits and livers are tops for the catfish, the panfish respond to worms under bobbers. Those fishing the forebay are seeing stripes on lures and bluegill.

Water Temp: 62-63 degrees, Elevation 695.84
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Launched at Bidwell early, about 6:40 or so, not a single trailer or vehicle in the parking lot, spooky feeling, stopped fishing right at 10:35 am. Amazing hardly a breeze this am, unusual for launching early at bidwell. Headed about half way to the rock pile in the N. Fork and found fish willing to bite. First fish about 7:10 am, still half dark. Tried about 6 locations and got fish at each stop, but just 3-4 fish at each stop. Fish still deep, just about all caught 30-35 feet. Thought I had a giant for a while, ended up just a 13" but hooked exactly top of the back, just front of the fins. Wow, they fight when hooked that way. Made a stop in potters cove on the way in and got the 15" fish. Picked up 22 fish today, best right at 15", one 14" most 13" or so, along with a couple 11-12". As always, released all to grow bigger and catch again one day. Pictures in fishing forum.

Report: by kraetzer » Mon Oct 30, 2017 7:09 am
Finnaly was able to get on the lake. Water temp was from mid to high 60s.
We found fish working on baitballs all over the place but couldn't get a reaction bite going. Only hooked one fish on a crankbait after they busted the surface chasing bait and i through right in their but he came off.
The only way we managed to catch them was on drop shots and caroline rigged worms around the bait.
We didn't catch a lot but had a couple of nice 3+lb spotts and a 3+lb largmouth.
Fish and baitballs where in about 30 feet of water.
The cold weather and rain in the future might push them closer to shore and maybe get that fall bite/reaction bite going.
Hope that helps and tight lines

Water Temp: 61-63
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: On the water at 7am with HEAVY fog. Stayed around launch until fog started to lift. Spook caught a couple on rocky points over 25 plus feet of water. Kept working my way to cherry with the A-RIG, Spook and under spin and caught a few more. Fished until 2pm when the wind picked up.
Tips: I caught around 12 fish, all of them were smallmouth with 1 around 3 1/2 . Never really saw any bait balls with fish on them. I lived welled my fish to get the best 5, and the well had 20 or more 1 inch dead bait fish in it with a couple craw claws at the end of the day.

Isleton Fishing Report
The salmon bite remains strong as cooler evening temps take hold. The bite in the area just improved all week. Salmon anglers are seeing success. a few fishing finally started getting solid reports of success from Salmon searching anglers with Capt. Stans Spinnerss leading the way. Water temperatures have dropped with the cooler evenings. Many anglers to the west are seeing more salmon daily… getting close. Capt. Stans Spinner’s are the best bet for those who want to try.
Walnut Grove Fishing Report
Continuing solid Salmon numbers with many decent Scores reported Capt. Stans Spinners and K-14 getting mentioned. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. Few Stripes are in the area as anglers recover still around as temperatures return more seasonable in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish.. Red Eye Shad and small shad patterned plastics are the top choices here as well. Small swimbaits are scoring Largemouth and Smallmouth in the Meadows.
Discovery Bay Fishing Report
Where did they go? Stripers that had been starting to group up in the Marina side seem to have disappeared. Have faith! They are still in the area, the bait and stripes are in main river Holland riverside south to Italian Slough. Dan’s Classic Shimmer Jigs and Strike King RedEye Shad getting bit. Black Bass cooler evening temps have water temperatures dropping and the bite on upswing!. Strike King small Double Buzz and Poppers getting mentioned often. Jig bite on points is also good.
Frank’s Tract Fishing Report
Stripers and bass bite both responded well to the cooler temperatures. It’s no secret what a little fall weather can do. Walking baits are great topwater options while small swim baits and swim jigs get the mention. We found plenty of Stripers and Black Bass with Hair Jigs, Weedless Swimmers like the BIG 6thSense Hollow Bodies getting grabbed. Lot of Stripers on Old River Flats.
West Delta Fishing Report
Humphries Salmon continue to grab spinners Mepp’s lead the way. Anglers in search of stripers are finding solid numbers of keeper stripers from both boat and bank. Most of the nice stripers coming soaking Shad . Antioch Pier scored stripers to27 inches this week. Shad is top offering. The West as in Honker Bay to the Broad Slough plug casting is getting fish when wind cooperates. Go On Top with Dan’s Delta Mizers, during the day go old school with Hair Jigs in open water White/Dark Green and White/Blue best this week . Sturgeon quietly is slipping into the spotlight. Eel is the best bait over all, but roe and shad also scoring diamondbacks Break and surrounding cuts..

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: We launched around 6:30 Sat. morning and headed north. East side along steep banks had some bass busting shad. Managed 7 in the first 1-1.5 hours on crank baits. Most were smallmouths. Had one LM that was likely 2+ #'s and a sm that was 1.8 and skinny. Would have gone two+ once it fattens up a bit.
After the sun hit the water the reaction bite seemed to disappear for us. Son managed 4 more after that on DS without any real pattern.
East side had a couple more feet of visibility compared to the west side.
Friday night they dropped the lake 3 feet. Ranger said they had been letting water out most of the week, but were surprised to find they had let out another 3' overnight. He warned us about the mud stacked up on the ramp.
Off the water at 1:00.

Report: Got a day in fishing with my brother. We drop shotted Aaron's magic worms for seven fish for a total of about 13 pounds including a nice 3.5 pound spot dead sticking the worm. The spots were the usual places up the river but we did get into a couple down by the dam near the overflow.

Water Temp: ?
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Using a loaner boat, I visited Collins Lake this afternoon for the last 3 hours of light. The lake is in beautiful shape and higher then normal for this time of year. The fires stopped short of the lake property and everything looked fine. The ice cream is still being scooped for visitors - I had some! The bite was slow - one hit on a jig. I threw a D&M white buzzbait after the sun went down and got a great blowup and a great spotted bass, almost 3 lbs. That was fun!! I had another great blowup from a quality bass but she missed it. Weather needs to cool for the bite to pick up.
Tips: If you are running around the east side of the lake, watch the buoyed areas. There are some shallow areas to watch out for. I would fish the main body now. I saw lots of fish and bait from 50 to 60 feet deep.

Sonoma Lake

Water Temp: 64
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Got on the water at 11am. Beautiful day with flat calm conditions. Fished main lake coves with vixens and poppers. Found the fish to be schooled up and very aggressive. Actually caught two smallies at once! Fun day with around 20 keepers up to 3lbs. Missed a couple others that were bigger, but hey thats fishing! Also tried some deeper action and caught a few that were around 20 ft on the dropshot! Better bite though on topwater! Off the water at 3pm.
Tips: Look for surface activity and go have a ball. Once you find them, stay in the area. Basically stayed in two coves all day. Shade is KEY!

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 62-67
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Maybe a sign of hope? Reports have been tough for Clear Lake this fall but we wanted to try it for ourselves. Started around middle lake and found them! We caught over 60 bass and 1 16 pound cat from 7 am to 1 pm. All of the fish came from 1 to 7 feet of water on a 3/16 oz. Coolbaits Down Underspin and a 3 inch Keitech trailer. Fish ranged from a few inches to 5 pounds. Hopefully the bite continues to get better as fall goes on.
Tips: Finesse working the best for numbers with a few big fish thrown in. Find the clearest water you can and throw a CoolBaits Underspin!

Water Temp: ?? never looked at temp, Elevation 698.25 feet.
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Think I need to adjust my wake up times for the long drive to Bidwell, seems I'l arriving way to early, so used to the 22 minute drive to Lime Saddle. Got launched at 6:35 am, stopped fishing right at 10:30 am. The early morning launch wind was not nearly as bad today for some reason. Picked up my first fish right at 7 am today and seemed like fish were in the mood from the very beginning. Bummer, no larger fish today, think maybe I already caught the better ones, as I fished the exact same location now 3 weeks in a row. Most all 32 fish were the basic 13-13 1/2" size, which included another 2 LM, 3-4 were the dink size of 10-12". Once the breeze died down, nearly like glass in the steep rocky area at the south side at potters ravine cove. One small section gave up 11 fish by holding the boat in the same basic location, most other location gave up 2-3, or 3-4 fish once I found them. Remember, spots love to school up sometimes, catch a fish, stick on that location a while and catch her buddy fish too. Takes me all morning to work this section of the lake, guessing 100 yards of shoreline, maybe a tad less. Fish seemed deeper today, most taken in 30 to 40 feet of water. Picture were the typical size, including 1 LM, all cookie cutters. Pictures in fishing forum.

Report: Pro Teen Event This Sunday @Russo’s Marina.
For Year’s The Pro Teen event has provided youth anglers with an opportunity to fish tournament with some of the West’s best Pro’s. It’s with Great Sadness the gentleman that started this event Andy “Cooch” Cuccia passed away this past week and the angling community is stepping up to pull off this event in his honor. Personally devastated as Andy was one of the best men I have had the pleasure of knowing in this business I urge all the men and women to come out and make this a special event for his family in this tough time.

Water Temp: 64 degrees, elevation 701.24
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Got launched early at 6:35 am today, when the wind glows and blows at Bidwell marine ramp, windiest ramp in the N. State in the early mornings, stopped fishing right at 10:30 am. Fished the same exact location as last trip and fish were still holding in the steep rocky area at the south side at potters ravine cove. Steep cliff like rocks don't always hold fish but this location sure seems to. Picked up 29 spots and 2 LM (small) this trip. Spent my entire time working this section. One section gave up 8 fish, another 6 fish, most 3-4 fish before they got spooked and stop biting. For a while it was just about every cast giving a fish up. Get real deep fast in this area, with 3/4 of the fish in the 30-35 foot range. 5 feet from shore is sometimes 20-25 feet!! Deepest fish today close to 40 foot or so. Nearly all fish were the basic 13-14" range, best 15", guessing a male being so skinny. The smaller fish in the pictures were the basic fish for the day. Both LM only 12-13", both fat and thick looking. Pictures in fishing forum.

Almanor Lake
-
Water Temp: 58-60
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Mike Sperbeck and I made our annual fall trip to beautiful Lake Almanor Thursday and Friday. We could have left after the first day!! Something happened on Friday and the smallies totally shut off. This is kind of rare at Almanor. Wind came up gently in the early afternoon and we were suddenly blown off the lake at 3 pm - very quickly!!! Maybe the bass felt that coming on - who knows. As bad as Friday was, Thursday was one of our best day ever - great bite - maybe the best I have ever had there! We lost a few big ones - some pushing 4 lbs. The bite was intense, but the smallies didn't seem to really inhale our baits. We lost a lot of quality fish - they would just come off after good hooksets. Our hooks might have been a bit too small for these hard fighting fish. Mike landed the first bass down by the dam which went 2 lbs. That was the only small one. As mentioned, we lost some big ones but did land 22 smallies from 2 1/2 to 3 lbs 7 oz. They averaged around 3 lbs and our best 5 was pushing 16 lbs. The bass were a bit deeper than we have experienced in previous years. We caught most of our bass from 18 to 30 feet deep and found no shallow bite. To compare the two days - we found big schools of bait on Thursday, along with the feeding bass, and could find NO bait on Friday and almost NO bass! Everything had moved and we never found anything much on the meter! Sure glad that happened on the second day. Happy memories of the first day kept up going!
Tips: I did not throw any crankbaits because the plastics bite was so good. I tried a bit of topwater - no takers. I remember 2 years ago catching a 4 lb smallie on topwater in October. I'll never forget the sound of that smallie taking the topwater bait!! Topwater is a fickle bite at Almanor, either ON or OFF! We used a variety of soft plastic baits like small brush hogs. If they had some blue, green, or brown, they liked it.

Report: NOTE:Reposted from Cooch's Fishing Page
To all the faithful followers, friends and family...It is with a heavier heart than you will ever know that I must let you know that Andy "Cooch" Cuccia has passed away. It was very sudden and very unexpected. I don't mean for this to seem impersonal but he had so many friends and acquaintances I did not know how else to reach you all. I write this as a way to let you all know, and more so as a way to help me wrap my head around this. Each of you had a part of his heart and you all shared his passion for the Delta and those big pigs! Keep those memories with you, always.
Keep a tight line.
Love, Jenny
He was always a big part of WesternBass, hosting the Pro-Teen, the first cover of the magazine. He will be greatly missed.
Coincidentally, WB had shown off Cooch and his nine pounder he caught this week, in today's Delta report. We hope everyone remembers him like this ... happy with the big one.
Best wishes and prayers to the family.

Report: Finally got to get on the lake after a week of winds and fires. Launched at Bidwell about 6:35 am, stopped fishing as the breeze began at 10:30 am. Headed to potters ravine cove to dodge the early morning winds and glad I did. Found fish on the south side in the steep rocks, actually mostly on the banks between the rocks. Fish were fairly deep, most 25-35 foot range. a few close to 40 foot, but not all, LM were hanging along those wall today. Picked up 3 LM, 23 spots along this bank for 26 fished bagged today. For a while it was nearly every cast, with best location giving up 8 fish before they got spooked. Most fish were running the basic 13-13 1/2" with only one runt at 11". Best fish today, a 14 1/2" LM. Very few boats on the water, just me fishing this location. Interesting way the water people think, they have only let it drop 3 feet over the last week. Get the water low enough to shut down lime saddle, then barely drop the water levels!!!! interesting judgement!!!! obvious they could care less about the ramps for fisherman! Clear Lake

Water Temp: 70.8-74.2
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Ted & I were At Clear Lake 9/24 - 9/27. We fished primarily at night with a few afternoon jaunts as well. I was suprised at the lack of weeds around the areas we fish. We actually fished areas that normally at this time of year, are all mucked & weed choked. We fish south to midlake this trip, mostly in Konocti & Buckingham. We did get a fair amount of bites, but the size was lacking! We boated several that went from 1.0 - 3.0. We did get two big fish hits & I broke them both off. One took me into a dock anchor cable & the other one grazed me off a rock. Got a good look at both, but they still don't count! We caught them primarily on Texas rigged Yamamoto lg flappin hogs & creature baits with green pumpkin being the most productive color. The afternoon trips were more of the same, we just tried it to see if there was a difference in pattern. We only managed one jig fish, two blade fish & a few more on senkos. No swimbait or crank strikes at all which was weird given the water temp. Did graph quite a bit of baitfish & there was a lot of activity with fish rolling. Other than that, nothing else outstanding to report. We'll give it a try in a few more weeks.
Tips: We lightened up the weight to 1/4 oz on the Texas rig as they hit it the creature on the fall. We fished very slowly, basically crawling it along the bottom. Many times they just picked it up & swam with it. Tried using a lighter rig with 8 lb line & finesse fish, but broke too many off on the hookset. Guess I'm too used to 20lb line & hard sets! Lol. Anyway , gave up on that after too many breakoffs. So, I guess fish slow & give the lake some more time. Seems the weather pattern is getting better. The other thing is during the night, the wind was totally slack. Usually it's brisk this time of year. I figure the bigs ones have to eat sometime & hope I'm there when they decide to start!

Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 67, elevation 705.65
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Launched at Bidwell this morning at about 6:50 am, stopped fishing about 10:30 am, as Lime saddle is closed due to low water. It's been a couple two or three years since launching here. I had forgotten about the winds coming off the lake early, can be brutal at times. Headed to middle fork trying to remember those locations that hold fish, but didn't really connect with any real hot locations, the ones I do remember were at much lower water levels and had no fish hanging out. Frustrated, only got 12 spots, and largest about 13 1/2" and left the camera in the car too. Almost makes me want to head to Lime Saddle area from bidwell, almost!! Most fish taken at about the 30 foot level, wind in the middle fork gave my tiny boat a hard time holding position, but really didn't matter, since no hot locations found.
