Clear Lake

Water Temp: 65-66
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Just wanted to stop back in and say thanks to Jeff for the tips. My buddy and I just got back from Clear Lake yesterday and we, the wives and the kids had a blast. Bass fishing was solid. We only carved out a few hours each morning to go off on our own, leaving the bulk of the day for family stuff. But that didn't stop us each from putting limits in the boat most days. I was also able to keep up my streak of decent lunkers pulling in a 6.9. Every trip seems to produce at least one fish over 5 lbs and make the trip for me. It took us a little while but we finally realized that he best bites weren't coming off the tule edge, but rather just past the first weed line in about 8-10 feet of water. All of the bass were caught on watermelon or black Senkos and Yum Dingers rigged wacky style. Also, contrary to common opinion, we were not just pitching and retrieving after the initial fall. I've noticed that, especially rigged wacky, most of my fish came after lifting the rod tip retrieving the worm and letting it fall back a second or third time on the way to the boat... more like a standard plastic worm retrieve. Most all of the bass came between Wheeler and Kinocti.
More importantly, my son had an absolute blast as the bluegill and crappie fishing was phenomenal. He's only 3 1/2, but loves to fish. We had a great system... Dad hooks 'em and he reels 'em in. Only lost a few to the father son transfer process :). We spent every evening nailing crappie on red and white creme jigs (1/32) and many of the afternoons doing the same with the same bait for great sized bluegill.
The family wants to make it an annual thing now. Thanks again Jeff.
City: Stevenson RanchTips: Dark Senkos... off the tules in slightly deeper water rigged wacky with a slow retrieve. Others we spoke with were doing very well with 4" drop shot worms in brown / purple patterns. Also... I've never seen this many baitfish in my life. It's a wonder the bass bother hitting lures at all :)

Report: Went out again today trying to get some more. I went out to the same spot where i lossed the big one yesterday off the sinko. Even though i did not see it i tossed it in there again using the same bait. The first cast my line started to go out and i set it. I saw the fish and knew it was the biq one again. I fought it more carefully today on the jump. It took a good 4 minutes to finally get it in but i did. I guess i exagerrated about it being the lake recored but it still was 9.2 lbs, my second biggest. I'll put the pic up soon.
City: oakleyTips: Look on the North Shore becuase there is plenty of cover and drop offs for big bass to bed.

Shasta Lake
-
Water Temp: 79-83
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished 5/30 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Sunny and warm. Caught 25-30 fish, 2 of which were a 2 1/4 lb small mouth and my brother Benny got the big fish of the day a 2 1/2 lb spot. We used a 4 inch green weenie by Roboworm. We tried dart head, drop shot and a mini carolina rig like split shotting only with a 1/16 to 1/8 oz bullet sinker and that was the ticket. Where there was no snags I wackie rigged it and where there were snags I texas rigged the worm. We fished the Squaw creek mouth and east side of Jones Valley just before you go into Squaw creek. Some fish were around trees but most were on drop offs.
City: San JoseTips: If your fish finder does not show fish, split and find a spot that does, learn to trust them and they will save you a lot of time. Fish drop off that go from 0 to 25 feet fast and you should catch fish.

Spring Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Hi guys, I'm an avid bass fisherman from Texas who'll be living in Santa Rosa this summer. I have heard of the legend of spring lake and would like to explore California bassing. I haven't fished once in the year I've been going to school in Cali and it's killing me! It seems that the trend is flipping the reeds or twitching Senkos and slow rollin SBs over the grass.
i'm thinking of buying a kayak or tube for the lake, and if anyone can give me any advice or is willing to take me on as a fishing partner, I'd be much obliged.
City: Santa RosaTips: I'm a pretty experienced bass fisherman, but I also fly fish. Any opportunities for a fly rodder in the area (non-species specific for now)?

Contra Loma Lake
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: went out and used mostly sinkos today. I caught two decent ones off the black w/ blue flake. I also lossed one that had to be over the lake record. It was up shallow and i snatched the buck first then the big one went after it. I had it for a while but i was trying to go down from the hill i was on and it jumped and the hook popped out. This thing was a monster.
City: oakleyTips: not much besides sinkos. what is everyone else getting them on?

Guadalupe Lake
-
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Slow. Float tubing Guadelupe for the first time. Couple of hits off of a hula grub, but no hook-ups. Jay Hann caught the only bass, a 10" little guy. Don't know how the fishing is here, may try it again in the future. Hit this reservoir to avoid the boats over Memorial Day weekend.
City: Belmont, CATips: Banks are steep. Drop-shotting may be the way to go.

Millerton Lake
-
Water Temp: 74-78
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Started at 6:00 am by squaw cove. Buddy caught the first one off a tube. Left squaw to fish at Windy Gap. Caught several fish there and landed a 5 pounder with a jig. Several other fish were caught around the main lake. Back lake didn't produce anything during the mid day. Caught most fish off of worms and jigs. Flukes worked in the morning but slow. Lots of skiers and water pressure but partner and I managed to come close to 40 fish on this Memorial weekend.
City: FresnoTips: Look for trees. Fish worms and jigs slow.

Soulajule Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I fished the lake all day with everything i had it my tackle box. The place was totally wind blown and i got about 50 backlashes and by the end of the day i had no line on my reel. If i were you i wouldn't waste my time with this place.
City: Stinson BeachTips: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS LAKE!
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: as soon as i clicked on the link for soulajule i became angry. I have been fishing this lake for the last several years and i have also noticed the cosiderable increase in people and more frustrating the trash. You people need to realize that there is no one to clean up after you like there may be at some of the bigger and more well maintained reseviors. The more people that know about the lake the more retards and trash will come along with them. If you do well at the lake please don't go writing it on the internet. While i am on the topic, for all you people that keep the bass that you catch, please let go all fish that are over two pounds. I was fishing there the other week and i ran across a group of guys with a stringer of bass ranging from 3-5 pounds. If you guys only keep the smaller fish we will be able to see an increase in the overall size of the average fish. and besides bass don't even taste that good unless you fry the hell out of them. So to sum it up, if you do well at the lake, keep it to yourself or only tell just one of your buddies so we will be able to have good fishing at such a gorgious lake.

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 71-73deg
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Me, my uncle, and my dad fished amador this memorial day weekend and ended the day catching 50+ crappie and bluegil combos off night crawlers and bobbers inside the reeds. I caught a rock bass in one of the coves drop shotting, it was my first rock bass and it looked really weird. and we both combined with maybe 7 LM bass, biggest being 2lbs. Wasnt too bad of a day, but it coulda been better. tight lines :)
City: santa claraTips: night crawler, small hook, bobber near any of those reed beds next to shore, right in front of them, too far away and they wont bite it. great for blugill, tons of fun, fought harder than the bass.

California Delta
-
Water Temp: 69-70
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Started off at 6am in the holland track area with a Spook and caught 6 fish all small and missed 2 real nice fish. Headed up north and stuck another half dozen fish on a Buzzbait. At 1030am I ran down to Disco and stuck 6 fish on a jig + 1 catfish and a striper heh. Ran back up to holland around 2pm and caught a few more fish on the buzz and lost a few really nice frog fish. Topwater was all day long but no quality largest was 2.5lbs.
City: San Jose

Camanche Lake
-
Water Temp: 72
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the Memorial Day weekend. In spite of the outrageous boat traffic the fishing was great. Stopped counting at 30 bass - LM, SM, Spots. Largest was 4.0. Caught fish on tube, brush hog, senko, rip bait and 4" worm from 3 to 15 ft. Most were on rocky shore or weed edges but the biggest fish came in 15ft on submerged humps with grass on them. Best color was Arons Magic. Carolina rigs, split shot, and texas rig all worked. Flipped and pitched tube baits to trees in shallow water and around the boat dock and caught fish. I had a 5 yr old kid on board dragging a split shot worm and he caught fish.
City: Foster CityTips: They are running water which has the bite turned on. Throw any soft plastic from shore to 15 ft and hang on. If I only had one bait and one color to throw it would without doubt be a 4" Robo in Arons Magic.

Coyote Lake
-
Water Temp: WARM
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Bassinator- I believe that since the fish are stocked they don't contain mercury and I know the majority of the people take them home to eat.
Bassbite was slower this weekend, tons of pressure all over the lake between the fisherman & the boaters. The southend was the most successful, caught a couple solid 4 pounders out of the trees on junebug senkos, cut-tails & yamamoto creatures. My buddy pulled a 8+ up to the boat but it managed to wiggle off just in time!
City: Los GatosTips: The water was very warm- most fish were caught in shallow shady spots early mornings and late afternoons. Good luck.
