Report: Decided to take my friend out for a little bassin' at Berryesa. The fishings been pretty darn good the last 3 trips there. We launched at 5:40AM at Capell- some poor dude burnt up his tranny the night before and was parked on the ramp next to the dock. We cruised over to an area that has some submerged trees surounded by a big flat. I tossed a spook and he used a lizard t-rigged. For almost an hour we got nothing. We slowly worked around each of the submerged trees- by now I was using my trusty pig & jig and he was still tossing the lizard. I pitched it up against the base of the tree on the shady side and felt that familiar thunk- I yanked back on my flippin' stick and snapped my 20 lb. leader at the jig. Maybe 3 seconds later the fish comes up out of the water shakin' her head trying to get rid of my jig. She repeats this 3 times over the next 5 minutes. The head was impresive but it was the tail that got me excited- looked to be about 7-8" across. Probably a 6 plus. Right after all this excitement- my buddy pulls on his spinning rod and starts reeling like crazy. He sort of forgot all about his lizard but the other bass next to the tree did not! This one came up shaking its head also- just as I grabbed the net it came unbuttoned. Darn to say the least. At least it got us wide awake after the slow first hour. If I'd set a little softer and he'd set a little harder we would have had a nice start to a good 5 fish limit. We let them all go anyway. The rest of the trip was pretty slow. My friend caught 1 smally just under a foot long and I ended up with 3 14" smallies. Three of the fish came on trolled crankbaits- those smallies eat 'em up all day long- if there is some wind blowing onto the bank. The 4th one came on a football head grub. The wind was only blowing maybe 6-9 MPH- I'd hoped it would blow harder- it is a pain to control my aluminum boat in but the fish always seem to bite harder and more often.

Tips: Get out and GOGOGOGO. First brush on lotsa sunscreen then take 3 more jugs of water than you think you'll need and don't forget the 5" Zoom watermelon/red lizards. See ya out there- back to back 4 day weekends- yahoooooo. P.S.- Thanks for posting all those good reports Lunker Larry- I learn something every time I read one-you're a good man!

Report: Last week I had 2 trips up to the lake. Most fish were caught on a carolina rig with 4 inch Robo worm. I switched colors from Xmas purple,Arons magic, and morning dawn. These colors also worked well on the drop-shot rig. White spinner baits slowrolled over the flats on the east shore did good in the am as did chug bugs worked on the surface. Rip baits have slowed down. West shore below pope creek had alot of fry and shad to get the fish going. Did well in the narrows with the drop-shot rig.

Report: I had a Guide trip on the day after Memmorial weekend. The fishing in the morning was not so good. We where up the river above the bridge. I decided to head back out to the dam area. This was a good choice as we got into fish right away along the rocks. Carolina riged Robo worms did the trick.

Report: Just to add...I do not keep hogs, only 12-13 inchers if I decide I want to clean and cook them. I understand that we must preserve the big fish for sport. But complaining about it here isn't going to change anything. Need to get the regulations changed.

Report: Just a comment, black bass are my favorite fish to eat. I don't eat alot, I release more than 95% of my catch...what I can't stand is other bass fisherman that insist you release all the bass you catch, Last time I've read the regulations, you can keep 5. So why do people get mad when they see someone keeping a legal size bass? These people are not breaking the law. I see fisherman keep bass all the time and it doesn't bother me one bit. Keep an open mind and just have fun, if you don't want people taking bass...write to the correct people to get the regulations changed to lower the limit. FYI...I hate cleaning fish.

Report: Took my wife and the in-laws to amador for the day. we got on the water about 10 or so in the morning and caught fish right away on a main lake point. two on a carolina rig and one on a darter head with another two on a bone rico. I was surprised to catch two top water fish out in open water so late in the day. I put down the rico and started to drop shot and hit fish in bunches. i expected to find the fish scattered due to post spawn but they were schooled up on steep walls. i wasted alot of the day throwing a frog on every matt i could find and hit nothing until a nice 5 blew up on it twice. it was cool to see the looks on my inlwas faces when that fish slammed the frog. on the water at 10 off by 6, 20 or so fish total with one five and a three with the rest in the 1-2 range. it was worth the entertainment watching my wife try to catch bluegill under a bobber. the fish got the better of her.

Tips: small lake, cover water and the fish will be on the same type of cover all over the lake.

Report: Aced another club tournament on Sunday, thanks to my non-boater. We caught a lot of small fish but my partner had his frog working. Weighed 14.4 pounds with only four fish in the bag. Had a few of crank bait fish but they didn't measure up. Largest fish weighed 5.2 and was the only fish caught flipping a sweet beaver. Water clouded up later in the day, but A.M. water was fairly clear.

Tips: Fish are there. Patience and clearer water seamed to work for us.

Report: wow what a trip..our club had their first night tourney of the year ... we started at 6 pm and fished to 8am.. wind blew 15-25 ALL NIGHT ..we did ok as i finished fourth with 12 + our winner had 24 + .. fish caught on the rocky points by konocti resort.. he threw the sweet beaver in black/red.. we ran to oak cove by the boat works in my little 17 foot champion.... and i'll say again champions are about the best rough water boats i've ever been in . they have other problems but not here. we had 9 keepers before dark on wacky wormed senkos and yamamoto cut tail worms. the senkos were blue/smoke and the cut tails watermelon . both fished wacko style.. the wind picked up and the bite died for us so we tied up to a boat slip and napped from 12:30 to 4:30 as it got light we swithed to spinner baits . i caught my fifth and culled four until 6:45 when we decidee to start back and it was really rough in the same place as last weekend ( the konocti bay area)
      City: SUNNYVALE

Tips: white/chart spinner and speed traps for bigger fish also that sweet beaver. wacky worm slow for loots of fish but including several dinks. get a quick limit on plastics then go hard baits..

Report: Fished from 5:30-noon. Only got 2 fish- one on a brown/black pig and jig from a cove full of tules on the north end. The other fish was an 18" smallmouth that was 2 lbs. 12 ounces. I've caught a few bigger ones from this lake but none of them fought as hard as this bass. It pulled like a train and made 4 runs and 3 spectacular jumps. I had 10 lb. big game line and was begining to wonder if it would be strong enough to hold. When i lipped it it bit down hard twice on the back of my thumb. Got it on a 5" watermelon/red flake lizard texas rigged along a steep bank on the west side of the lake- near a small patch of tules.

      Water Temp: 74-75

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Took my grandson out for some fun fishing. Ran up the north fork to a small waterfall. Caught 7 spots within 20 feet of the fall on weightless 9J Senkos (smoke blue pearl)...all were in the slot. Decided to look for some offshore suspended spots so I cast my little weightless Senko as far out into the center of the cove as possible...pretty far on 5# test line! Just let it sink, and sink, and sink...then WHAM! It took off like I'd hooked a marlin! Turned out to be a 3 pound salmon. Cool...dinner! In the next 90 minutes, we caught salmon on just about every cast. Some hit the Senko as it dropped. Others, were deep and would eat it below the boat as it was slowly jigged about 40' down over 65' of water. Brought home a limit for the BBQ. One of them gave us a real thrill as it kept jumping 2-3 feet out of the water like a sail fish! Even jumped right over the net as my grandsome flailed around trying to catch it...he's never netted fish before so it was really fun watching him react to that hot fish!

Any way, after the salmon fun was over, we ran back to the main body and caught dozens of slot bass on dropshot rigs in 20-25'. Used a 4" baby bass colored worm. Didn't catch any spots over the slot, but that was okay because my grandson thought they were all giants! HaHa!

Saw enormous numbers of suspended fish and lots of bait balls in the top 20 feet of water. The pond smelt are tiny...less than an inch long. I suspect small plastics will continue catching small spots because I dn't see how bigger spots can't possibly eat enough of those little smelt to keep their body weight up. They've got to be keying on crayfish and small bluegill. I didn't test this theory today but I'm going back next week to throw crawfish imitators (jigs, hulagrubs, tubes) looking for those over-the-slot fish. Will also try bluegill colored spinnerbaits.

Tips: Take a kid fishing on Oroville NOW!!! The child will remember the trip fondly forever.

Report: Was out yesterday morning from 6am til 10am and caught 14 LM's biggest being 3.78lbs. Was throwing top water early and then swithed to a senko. About 8am switched to a spider grub. Fish were very active and I lost 5, one being really nice.

Also Dylan Regan, not to sure if he caught 40+ or not, never met him. But I had one week when I fished Tuesday-Friday everyday from 3pm til dark and my numbers were 26,29,37,and 31. Biggest going 9.34 and the average fish was a pound. So it can be done if you know the lake.
