Report: been fishin' berry the last couple of weeks..have been able to graph lotsa bait and some fish...had two outings of 6 hrs each that resulted in 4-5 fish, mostly smallies up to 2 lbs. my fish have been coming from 15 to 40 ft using a split shot or carolina rig with a little bit worm or baby brush hog. use your electronics (no use fishin' where they ain't) and when you find a few marks on the bottom either dead stick your bait or try shakin'. IF ANYONE HAS ANY TIPS on NIGHT FISHING at this lake i'd appreciate it....good fishin'!
    City: orinda

Tips: use your electronics...find the fish first...they are not really aggressive, but if you lucky you can entice one or two of them to grab on....they are very full of shad.

    Water Temp: 73

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Left Markley Cove at 6:30 am yesterday morning, which seemed more like a morning in early April rather than July. Water temp has to have dropped about 6-8 degrees. I expected to catch a lot of small fish with my clients because of the week of cool weather. but instead, we only caught 13, but the best 5 were nearly 10 lbs, topped by one of my client's 3-5 largemouth at 1:30 in the afternoon. What a way to end the trip! He had just caught a 2-3 largemouth about an hour before. Both were caught on #1 Magic Worms - original green weenie, 4 1/2". Other client had a nice 2-1 smallie on a #62 Magic Worm. The topwater bite turned on at noon - believe it or not!! Water had to warm up a bit I guess. We caught 4 on Chug Bugs, but only one keeper. I intended to fish the main lake, but never made it out of the narrows!! I always target big fish areas, and I think it paid off yesterday. One of the bonuses yesterday was that most of the bigger fish made spectacular leaps out of the water - they were frisky!!! That is a thrill for a guide, as long as the client can keep 'em on!!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Crankbait, grub and jig bite did not happen yesterday for us. The lake has had a bit of bloom - a green tint - at least in the narrows. Should make fishing a little easier. Target isolated brush - it all has some fish in or around it.

We are going to fish this monday and tuesday also. hopefully we will catch the same amount.

Report: Perfect day - low winds, low 80's, lots of fish. Took 6 bass, to 3 1/2 lbs mostly on 6" brown salamander with yellow tail. Took a 4 lb cat on plastic and an 8+ lb cat on a live minnow. 3 good sized Largemouth east of the Pope Creek bridge, and a really nice smallie from a little island in the Narrows, lake side. The big cat was from the east shore. Lots of bites - wish I was still out there. Tight lines!
    City: San Carlos

Tips: Texas rig, pretty continuous retrieve, just dragging on the bottom.

    Water Temp: 69-76

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished a club tournament out of Cappell. I had one blowup on a spook in the morning, but the fish didn't eat it. Tried cranking in the morning and that was not productive for me either. My partner tried worms and had no luck with them either. Started fishing 3/8 ounce brown/olive football head jigs with watermelon/red flake Yamamoto grub trailers and started catching fish. We saw a few fish on beds, but fewer than last week. Steep banks with isolated structure (rocky points, wood, or rock slides) were most productive. Fish were in 3-10 feet of water.
    City: Brentwood

Tips: The bite improved in the afternoon, seems that the full moon caused the bite to be better in the afternoon. Heard there was an afternoon crank and spook bite.

    Water Temp: 60-64?

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Caught a 21 inch, 5 pound-5 ounce largemouth on a cherry seed Zoom 5" lizard on Cinqo de Mayo! Caught it on the first cast after spotting it as I walked up to a big laydown tree. Caught it at 11:30AM and then fished 3 other spots with no more fish. It got very windy as the day went on.
    City: napa

Tips: Lizards and brush hogs really can't be beat for nailing quality fish this time of year. After going back and reading all the fishing reports from 1999 I can see that I need to break out my brown or green plastic worms with chartruese tails if I want to keep catching fish as summer approaches. Crawdad cranks and white spinnerbaits have been the main fishcatchers for me over the last 2 years. And as those hot days arrive don't forget to go early and use the best topwater lure ever made........the Chug Bug! Good luck.

    Water Temp: 64-68

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Started on east side near farm house and caught 5 fish to 2-lbs using 4" pumkin-chart tail. fished west side north of Spanish and Caught 6 more, also to 2-lbs using a witches tea-chart tail. Saw several big fish, would not look at anything. could not get any crank bait or ripin bites. Caught 4 more in cappel cove on the same plastics.
    City: Fairfield

Tips: Seems like down sizing a bit is working for numbers. Couldn't buy a big fish.
