Report: Made my first fishing trip into the Delta for Largemouth. My buddy and I launched from Turner Cut and ran up to Fourteen mile Slough. We threw spinnerbaits and jigs but had no luck. We returned and fished through Turner Cut and Empire Slough. We ended up on Mildered Island and fished the brush, we got a couple of very soft bites but were unable to stick the fish. We trolled away from the brush using Rapala minnows and my buddy caught a striper. As we continued out of Mildred Island, we started throwing into the tules at 4:30 pm. I caught a 11" largemouth and within the next 25 minutes boated a 2-1/2 pounder, a 1-1/2 pounder and a 1 pounder all on pumpkin/chartreuse lizards.
    City: Modesto

Tips: The pumpkin/chartruese lizards seemed to work. My buddy was throwing various worms and spinners but never got a bite.

Report: I know the Delta is an awesome area to fish and just by reading the reports it's obvious. The problem with being new to the Delta is everything looks good, throw in the changing tides, wind and the fact that it's so big, you get the results I did today.... NADA. I threw BLK&BLU jigs, junebug Brush Hogs, tiger & crawdad Speedtraps, peanutbutter & jelly Zippers, white & char. spinnerblades, everything except the beef jerky I was eatin. I'm starting to think that you have to pay your dues here before you get to catch any fish. OK, enough wining. The Delta will either make a Fisherman out of you or lead you to heavy drinking.
    City: Antioch

Tips: Don't give up. Pay close attention to the Guys who have paid their dues. Hell, if all else fails, follow them BASS BOATS around. : )

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Hi kids, bladed early and threw in some plastics as well for about 21# by 9:30a. Got two 6#'rs early one on plastics(junebug zipper) and one on a spinnerbait. Lots of heavy 3# fish on plastics (other than zippers) the rest of the day. Tide was good for me just as it started to swing the other way. Fish very responsive to its movement on points. At one point I hooked 5 fish in consecutive casts. So they can be found in groups. Biggest fish were loners or it seemed that way. If you just want to get bit then throw plastics. If you want big fish throw a blade early then switch to cranks and keep your bait as close to cover as much as possible. I don't talk about jigs cause I wanna get those 8#'rs.
    City: Mountian view

Tips: Mavrics worms out of Lakeport Tackle are excelent plastics, they are very soft and fish seem to realy hang on. I have had a lot of success on my local lakes with them and would recomend you call Lakeport Tackle and ask for them to send you a sample box. They'll charge you for it but you won't be disappointed. I've won tournaments with them.

    Water Temp: 55-65

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Had a tough day fishing Big Break and Frank's Tract areas. Was trying to locate some new water, but after several hours without a bite I went to some old faithful water. Only got a couple of bites even on known good water. Water is very dirty - 2 to 6 inches of visibility was about all I could find. There was some clear water in the weed beds of Emerson. Both shallow and deep fish were inactive. Water should clear up soon if the wind stays down.
    City: Brentwood

Tips: Go with bigger baits with a lot of water displacement. I like the ReAction Lures Gator Dog which is something of a cross between a brush hog and a zipper worm.

Report: Fished the Delta on a guide trip with Steve and Shanna Majerek from Oregon. Had a great time with this father/daughter duo as we started out from the Hook with moderate breezes. We caught a number of fish throughout the day and it was quite special to have Steve git the first one on a black jig at about 3.5 pounds. I had Shanna tossing a Red Speed Trap but she was having troubles with the wind. So I sent dad to the back of the boat and brought here up with me to teach her how to flip. She caught on purty fast. The bite was purty tough for a nice March day but we did manage to catch about 12 fish on the black and brown jigs. The better fish seemed to come off the wind blown rock banks. Best fish was a 7+ flipped on a brown jig-n-pig. I also had a couple of firsts as I fliped about a 6 pound Talapia carp, fatest little gold fish I ever seen, it hit hard and literally gave up when I crossed her eyes with that CGR664! Came to the boat like a ballon. Steve also flipped a channel catfish about 6-7 pounds and they were both excited to be taking home some dinner. It turned out ta be a gorgeous day, with hopes that the spring bite is coming.

Report: While both striper and cat fishing at the delta(Bacon Island), I caught a fish that did not resist period. Until, I reeled it close to the bank then all of the sudden it started taking off as it approached to bank. At first I thought it was a sturgean or a huge striper. I fought the fish for approximately 15 minutes until I was finally reeled it to the bank. It's not either a sturgean nor a striper, but instead it's a huge channel cat fish. The fish is enormous and it has a spooky looks on it. I weigh the fish and it weights 30 lbs and it's length is 40". Instead of keeping it, I gave it to a black male who is always fishing for cat fish. This person repeatedly thank me and drove away thanking God as well. It feels good to see someone appreciate me so something so little like this.

Tips: Use blood worm, the tail of a crawdad, and sardine. Need to make sure the bait smells first

Report: Fishing good if your patient. Reaction baits good on windy banks with more than two types structure. Rock/tules that are isolated on points with wind held spinnerbait fish to 3-5# with numerous small fish. Other point related areas good as well. Plastics in brown/(and one other color can not be that descriptive) are good for bites all day everyday. Crank bite getting better but best for postspan females.

Report: Launched out of orwood resort, and tryed to find somewhere that was secluded from the wind. Found very few areas, but did catch a few on blue/chartruese spinnerbaits. They were pretty small though, one about 8 inches. Three others about 1-2 pounds. Water depth about 6-10 feet.
    City: Oakley

Tips: Look for areas sheltered from the wind, and keep trying even if the bite is not happening.

Missed a few others. Wind wasn't too bad.

    Water Temp: 57

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished rental boat out of Paradise Point with son, John, starting at 9:00 a.m. Went up to White's Slough looking for staging bass. Fished shallow to deep with variety of presentations - no luck. Tried mostly slow stuff (cranks, jigs, swim baits, tube craws, Power Pulse worms). Moved down into Bishop Cut and fished its length - inside and outside weedlines, and out in the channel. Found many green weedbeds but no bass. Had some excitement with Frogzillas on the cheese. Had several very large bulges under the big frogs, but no actual takers. Finally, late in day, John nailed two small bass on shad-colored Frenzy lipless crankbait off a deep weedbed out in channel. Dad got skunked, but, as always, had a wonderful day fishing with my son.

Report: Launched out of Holland/Riverside, ran into Mildred Island to do some exploring. Started throwing a buzzbait (I know, not exactly a high percentage bait for this time of year....but nothing beats a top water bite!) Well, after about 50yds of bank.....KABLOOOSH!!! 4.5#er. I'm thinking...hey this could turn out to be a great day.... But I didn't get another on the buzzer, switched to blades, cranks and plastics, and only managed two more small ones. Missed a good one that took off like a rocket with my brushog. Found water as warm as 61 degrees(not in Mildred), but still didn't get the number of bites I expected.
