Report: Weather: Overcast, cold, 5-7 mph winds
Lake Level: High due to rains, back to normal on Saturday\Best Depths: Jig fish are all coming from 4-6 on the rocks and 8-12 feet out off the bank in the grass. The active reaction fish are all in 3-6 foot up on the flats with sparse grass adjacent to tules.
Fishing after the storms was very productive for us, due to the rains much of the Delta has become stained to dirty moving fish shallow. The fish were active and aggressively feeding, if ya roll up and don't git bit, move on till ya find em! Paddle tailed

Tips: As is the case in winter, you've got to slow down, very slow retrieves on the swimbaits and 4-6 sec pauses on the jerkbaits produced strikes, where faster constant retrieves did not. Long pitches with a slowere hop-n-pop of the jig produced strikes, very few fish bit on the initial fall of the jig.

Report: Had super low expectations since we were fishing right after storm but ended up having a great time. No big ones but caught 12, 17 total for two of us. Fished breaks at the north end of Franks but water was pretty stained, 6"-1' visibility. Ran down to Little Mandeville where the water was much cleaner, 3-4' visibility. Started catching them on breaks, grass channels, *1 dock*, edges of hyacinth mats. Caught em on jerkbait and dropshot. Buddy caught a couple on spoon as well. Only one small keeper out total fish but still had fun.
    City: San Mateo

Tips: Almost all the jerkbait bites came on a long pause (10-20s secs) and were passive.

  • Water Temp: 56-57

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Decent weekend on the delta, fished both Sat and Sun, winning our local TOC. Sat was slow and cold with a bad tide. still managed a pretty good bag all things considered. Focused on the outside edge of large flats and found fish in the 2-2.5lb range hot on jigs and senkos. Next stop fished dropshot in connection with my HDS to find tightly schooled bass in deeper water, 11-13ft. got our kicker. focused on current edges and deep swings. had our bag and stopped fishing at noon. Sun was a lot tougher early , started with finesse baits but the bite opened up at 11a - 2pm wide open but no size except a 5lb. all reaction. should probably kept with reactions longer to the start the in hindsight.
    City: stockton

Tips: even if the weather is bad, if has been stable (rain or shine)for a day, the fish will adjust and go back to eating reaction baits. fishing in the 10+ range was a pattern this weekend and where the more consistent bite was, but never sleep on a shallow water reaction bite aft the weather has remained the same for a day or two

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: My son and I went out Thursday and Friday looking for both stripers and largemouth. We worked Franks Tract, rip rap walls near deep water and Mildred Island. We found a lot of fish both days with jerk baits (we caught 20-25 each both days), but nothing of any size. We did catch 5 or 6 keeper stripers and 5 or 6 largemouth in the 1.5-2 lb range, but everything else were dinks and shakers. It was a lot of fun with lots of action, but just didn't find any big bites.
    City: Elk Grove

Tips: Not sure I'm qualified to give any tips, but the jerk bait was working for us everywhere we went. Even in areas where a dropshot was the hot bait a few weeks ago we were only catching fish on the jerkbait.

Report: started in Franks Tract, lot of smaller fish on a 6" dropshot in Robo MM and deeper red colors. lots of ripbait fish too up to 2.5lbs. endless amount of dinks-2 lbs. went down river and cranked rock walls with better fish to 3 lbs. finally decided to go shallow looking for a big bite. got into some water off main channel near good current on a flat in the afternoon. lost a TOAD, boated a 3.5, 4 and 5.25 in 20 minutes tossing bigger baits.
    City: stockton

Tips: listen to your bites, don't get caught up thinking they aren't biting or only biting finesse presentations. fall afternoons can pay off when the sun has warmed water even if a couple of degrees.

Report: Fished from Franks to Potato slough. Got about 15-20 combo fish, but they were all small with nothing over 2lbs, including the stirpers. For Ray in the Lund boat: I should've showed you this umbrella stand I rigged up to keep the sun off oneself. If you read this and are interested, you can email me at-printing@sbcglobal.net

Report: What a difference a week makes...and all the other factors (weather, moon, tide, floating weed "South American Spongeplant"), I googled it and that's what it's called... Anyways, launched early dark about 6am out of B&W cuz there were some striper guys gettin' ready for a derby so figured we better get launched. Went straight to Potato Slough and started off great... threw a sweet beaver to the rockwall and a 3.6 immediately inhaled it. Really thought it was gonna be on but only managed about 20 dink to 11"ers for that wall. Moved across and worked opposite rock wall but the wind on both sides made it difficult to maintain our deepv with only 55lb thrust. Yeah, someday I'll have an ultimate bass boat but till then, it's deepvbassin'! So anyways, back to today's fishin'.... changed to senko and picked up a few more 1 and 2lbers, about 5 I think....and probably another 15-20 spunky 8-11inchers. Off the water by 1pm.
    City: folsom

Tips: Not really qualified to give tips... and today, what landed plenty of 2-3lbers last 2 weekends only got us 1 limit of keepers today between my bud and me. I used watermelon/red sweet beaver with red claws T-rigged with 1/4oz bullet w/bobber stop. Then switched to 5" watermelon/red Big Bite Baits Trick Stick both t-rigged and wacky... 25pk is cheap at Tackle Warehouse and these last longer than Senkos...I guess that could be my tip...BBB trick stick from TW 25/$5.99 :) Tryin again Sunday!

Report: Started 830am out of B&W; worked the rockwall at start of the Moke with blk/blk cavitron buzzbait but only one blowup; did this for 5 mins and went to watermelon/red flk senko. started hooking up 12" to 2lbers. when the veggie flotillas got too thick, we headed to potato slough and worked more rockwalls with the senkos and buddy used 6-7" roboworms in shad pattern... continued picking up lots of 8" to 13" and a few nice 1-2lbers. ended the day with a 5.5 lber grabbing my buddy's senko.
    City: folsom

Tips: No tips as usual...just what worked for us: watermelon/red flk 5" senko T-rigged on owner 2/0 ball finesse ultrahead. Buddy used 5" shad pattern senko wacky on 1/0 Gamakatsu wide gap finesse. We worked the rock walls and inside/outside weedlines and also little cuts in those huge veggie flotillas attaching themselves to everything. but on clear rockwalls, we just kept throwin the senko to the wall and then immediately locking up so it would pendulum swing down along the wall and clear the rocks..then I'd jiggle it like a flickshake and next thing I'd see my line moving sideways. Worked for me.

btw...we did have one bassboat with three guys leapfrog about 30-40yds in front of us with no regard for our drifting in that direction. They were across behind us and no way could have missed us drifting in that direction. Oh well, I don't do that to others but I guess that's ok to do? We still continued to hook up anyway as we worked the same wall behind them so i guess they left us some fish to catch (well that's my preferred positive way to look at it).

Report: Fished Big Break in the AM with my buddy Tom for topwater stripers. Had a few blow-ups with 3 shakers. Then flew out to the entry of in Sherman where the water was extremely muddy, one major LMB hit that broke my line—then up to Decker for the outgoing tide but the rollers were about 2 feet. Headed back to Big Break, fished the TULES in Dutch with incoming tid after 1PM wherever water was moving and openings— caught about 8-10 LMB in the 1.5 to 2.5 lb. range. Caught them on texas-rigged flapping hogs and wacky worms.Winds about 5 MPH in the afternoon vs. 10MPH in the AM.
    City: Orinda

Tips: I think the water is too warm still to see the striper/bigger fish onslaught in the AM. The birds were hunting, but very little diving anywhere. Try for stripers in the AM, then switch to LMB because they are still out there.

    Report: (Video here: http://youtu.be/kekcKdXl_EM)

Another great day on the Delta. Started out with stripers on topwater in Franks. No keepers but just fun way to start the day out. Even caught one on a frog (see video). Ran north and started catching dinks. Quality didn't improve until we started punching around 9. Also caught 'em on jerkbait and one quality keeper on 6" Senko. Countless fish for the day, I got only 5 keepers including a 3lb. 10oz. and a 3lb 3oz. Buddy got 10 keepers.
    City: San Mateo

Tips: I was expecting bite to be off due to the front moving through but I was wrong. If you've already scheduled the day off a week in advance (like I did), just go out and fish!

Report: Good day on the Delta. Started in Little Potato Slough but had very little success. Went to the San Joaquin River and immediately started catching 2 & 3 pounders on a variety of soft plastics. I lost a very large bass at the boat – apparently I didn’t have a hook set and the big guy simply let go when he saw the boat. My best guess is that he looked to be around 24 inches, maybe even a little bigger, which would equate to a real quality fish. Oh well - next time! The action stayed hot most of the day and continued when I shifted over to the Mokelumne River later in the afternoon as I was heading in. I got into a school and caught a 3 pounder and saw several other bass following the hooked bass all the way to the boat. It seemed like they wanted the lure that was already firmly in the jaw of the hooked fish. That happened twice – once on a crankbait and once on a spinnerbait. All in all a real fun day.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched B&W 6:30am; started crankin' and buzzbaitin along the top of the Moke...managed about a dozen dinks and almost keepers, both black and stripers. Water seemed too calm and motionless. Decided to head to H&H area at Little Connection...but never made it...once we got through Tower Park Marina and outside the 5mph boundary, we started chuckin' senkos between the rock wall and weedline. Started picking up 12"-14"ers. Then about a half mile around the corner, bam...nothin' but 2 and 3lbers..... picked up about a dozen 2lbers and four 3lbers with about a dozen solid 1 lbers and very few but still a few almost keepers and dinks. During this time, my buddy continued to try and get a keeper on a crank but anything sizeable just weren't havin' any of it. Every time he went back to senko (watermln/red flk btw), he picked up a solid keeper. Good senko day, I coulda brought just 1 rod instead of my usual 6-7. next time it’s 2 rods on the deck and maybe 4 in the locker... hahahaha. oh, and it was nice without the heavy traffic on the water... one cigarette boat, 2 skiers, and maybe a handful of bassers. lucky day that way too!
    City: folsom

Tips: I'll always say I'm not qualified to give any tips, but whenever/wherever we threw cranks and didn't get anything, we went back and worked over again with senkos and picked up fish. So for whatever reason I'll likely never figure out, they weren't hittin' cranks like they were our previous 2 or 3x out. When reaction doesn't work, I always keep a senko rig handy...watermln/red flk or black neon (blk/red flk) in 5". Oh, both wacky with o-ring and t-rig worked but majority I went t-rig weightless on a Trokar 3/0...hooked top of the mouth center almost every time....cept the big 3.12 and he basically swallowed it but we got it out and sent him on his way. good senko day! oh sorry, already said that!

    Report: (see video here: http://youtu.be/xCnKI4Q8-fU)

Launched out of Russo's at 6:30. Windy as hell. Got a bunch of blow ups on buzz frog and toad but no takers and not big blowups. Started catching stripers on jerkbait then LMB on Gunfish, jerkbait, and chatterbait. Also broke my year long punching drought (thanks Robert Matsuura and Jonah at Hi's). 11 keepers in the boat to 2lbs. 7ozs. (not mine!). Decent quality fish - best 5 was probably in the 13lb. range. Also caught two keeper stripers + 30-40 more dinks and shakers. Fun day with non-stop action!
    City: San Mateo

Tips: We fished points and spots where the current was deflecting into the rip rap. Worked all day. 99% of the bites came on shad patterned baits some I'm guessing there's a shad bite on.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished portions of Hog Slough and the South Mokelumne River. Plenty of willing bass but not much size. The largest went 3 lbs. but there were several in the 1 ½ to 2 ½ lb. range. Used several baits including soft plastics, cranks, frogs, and spinnerbaits. By far, the most productive lure was a chartreuse/white spinnerbait. Square billed cranks (both homemade and commercial) were next, with red outscoring white by a few fish.
    City: Stockton

Tips: Mid-week after Labor Day proved to be a good time to go – I think I was the only boat in Hog Slough!

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished out of Russo's on Sunday. Out at 7AM, High tide at 9:45. Fished the Tules right outside Sugar Barge and had one hit on a frog. Shot over to the North Side and no takers. Hit the RIP RAP caught two stripers close to keeper size. Shot over to Mildred fishing with flappin'hog and wacky senko in and outside the weed line. No takers. Lots of wake boats out of control. Back to the North Side of Franks to fish the rip rap and caught another 8 schoolie stripers (caught on a stay-see rip) and one 2 pound large mouth on a rattle-trap (blue and chrome)during close to low tide. Off the water around 3PM.
    City: Orinda

Tips: Big Boats throw Big Wakes. When the bite is on focus on safety first.Get off the platform, turn into the wake and hold on.
