Report: What up Sean Moore. I read your note and I am willing to help you guys out. I am 20 years old and have been tournament ishing or 2 years and I ish 2 dierent trails 100 percent bass and New Bass. Both o these trails have a urture Pro division so you are not ishing against any pro's. They both have 2 dierent horse power divisions 0-90 and 91 on up. They are cheap events and you learn a lot. We just had a recent tounament on the Delta on the 6 o May and it took 20.88 pounds or 7 to win in the big boat and just a little over 11 to win the small boat (I think).
    City: Benicia

Tips: I you want to ind out more about the two trails e-mail my partner at basshog27@aol the next tournament is at Clear Lake on the 24 o June Hope to see you there.

I lost it right at my tube which I was ishing out o. The rest o the trip showed me no love, and nothing seemed to work. Used spinners, cranks, worms, brush hogs, and topwater.

Report: Tried clearlake or the irst time. Launched Saturday late aternoon in the south end near Rattlesnake island. The wind was terrible. We tried Senko's, worms, lizards, crawish, crankbaits, Jigs, Spinnerbait, topwater, even buzzbaits. Hard to keep the boat where you wanted. There were several ish rolling on the surace (not likely bass). Optimistic or Sunday, wrong, 5:30 a.m. 2 to 3 oot whitecaps. Tried the other side o the south end. Wind was not good saw alot o boats trying to ind calm water and no one catching anything. All 4 o us threw the whole tackle box at them. We let at 2:00 beore the small crat warnings would go out knowing that it just wasn't our day.

Report: Spent 4 days at Clear Lake this week with some real nice people, showing them how to ish spring conditions. They all had some success, and that's what I like. We caught anywhere rom 4 to 10 ish each trip, with the Tues night trip being the slowest. The day bite was better last week or some reason. I did go mysel Thurs night or 2 hours and stuck 4 to 6 1/2 lbs, so maybe nights are picking up. I was very pleased to help two guys who towed their boat all the way rom Utah to ish Clear Lake or the irst time, and one o them got a 7 lb 7 oz bass within their irst hour on the lake. That was cool! I tried a jig to see i the ish would respond to them and was able to get the 3 lb male to eat it, and suggested they try a jig or the emale. It worked! We put them back, o course, ater photos. They are good ishermen and probably did very well the rest o their trip. Another trip was with a husband and wie, and naturally, the wie got the big ish - a nice 5 pounders using a #208 Senko on a rock wass near the bar in South Konocti Bay. This ish was strong - took o under the boat and jumped 10 oot on the other side. She did a beautiul job o landing it. We caught nine, and could have caught many more, but they wanted to see more o the lake. One o my regular clients was out with me yesterday, and hooked a wild 6 to 7 pound ish, but he lost her in the second jump. Darn!! I ound the brown/orange Rodstrainer jig with a shortened 5" #180 double tail Yamamoto grub generated violent strikes rom the males, and some emales that wouldn/t touch anything else. Another client ron down south almost was a hero when he stuck a 6+ on a jig, but she wouldn't stay on. She wouldn't touch anything else. You might want to try a jig. Yesterday evening, about 5:30, I pitched this bait (in shadows) to a crusing emale just or un, knowing she would ignore it. I saw her come toward it never eeling a thing, but my line moved a bit, and set the hook on a 5 pounder. She wouldn't look at anything earlier in the day. I still can't believe she picked up that jig!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: This time o year, i you are ishing or bed ish, or ish that are ready to go on beds, you probably will not eel a bite, since they arn't eeding. Watch the ish i you can, and anticipate when they have the bait in their mouth, then set. Watch their body language - that will help you know when to set. Bright colors help - chartreuse, white, and pearl are always good colors. You can see them disappear as a bass picks up the bait. 6" lizard, grubs, and tubes all work well. I you use the jig I mentioned, you have to watch closly, since it is harder to see. Don't orget your Polariod glasses or better underwater viewing. Please return all ish caught to their nest. Don't carry them around in your livewell. It is sad that so many bass will be removed rom their nests in all these tournaments - the ish are most exposed this year because o the lower water level.

Report: My Dad and I decided to head out to Clear Lake sense I hadn't caught any ish the last two time up there and my Dad's biggest bass is only 2 1/2 pounds(He doesn't ish much). We got to the lake about 6am Thursday, we launched out o Redbuds. We stayed there in the south end, we caught several ish that morning. Several 3's, a couple 4's and I caught a 6, my Dad did catch his biggest up to this point(a 3 pounder). We decided to go check into our room and take a break, this was about 10:30. We got back out on the water about 12:30, nothing or about an hour when I got another 6 pounder. Then things picked up again, I caught a 5, 4 1/2 and my Dad caught a 5 1/2. We stopped ishing about 3:30, our best ive were 27 pounds. The wind really came up so we decided not to go out that evening, we did head back out about 6:00 Friday morning. We started out right away with my Dad getting a 3 and mysel a 2 1/2, then the wind really picked up and I was not able to hold us in close to the bank. Up until this point we had been caughting our ish on senkos, I decided to tie on a crank bait and work a rock wall. In about ive casts I had a 4, 5 and a 6 1/2. Then the wind blew us o the lake, can't wait to do this again.

Report: I tried to talk my clients out o a scheduled Sat night trip, because o the previous days hail and snow, but they wanted to go anyway. Now, I'm glad we did!! I think he wanted me to post this, and I am happy to do it, 'cause he inally did well!! Honestly, he has struggled to pick up proper presentations o bass ishing in past trips, but around midnight, I had to keep runnin' or the net. Couldn't believe it! He started o with a 2-10, which I was simply glad he got one in the boat. In the next 15 minutes, he stuck 3 more - 3 1/2, 3-14, and 5 lbs, all on big red/black brush hogs. And he was 4 or 4, until he lost the last one. All I could do was smile, and I think he was grinning too!!! As a teacher, I have to think he passed his inal! His brother was along to try bass ishing or the irst time, but could only manage 2 bites. I caught 8 bass up to 6-7, on Weapon jigs and brush hogs. Our ive best were 22 3/4 lbs - better than I expected or a post-ront night. We did ind some ish very shallow as we targeted tule clumps and rock walls rom Konocti to Buckingham. We did get a 4 pounder beore dark at Rattlesnake Island - all the others were ater dark.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The lake had warmed up 2 degrees this past week in spite o the weather, and with warm weather on the way, look or lots o bass to move shallow this week. Rock-tule combinations are hard to beat this time o year in the south end. Bass will spawn on the big, lat rocks that are surrounded by tules. Flippin' and pitchin' brush and Power hogs, lizards, Senkos, and tubes, should do the trick in the next couple weeks - IF - the weather stays stable.

Report: Fished GCB tourney out o redbud. My partner, DaveB banged a 4+ right away about 300 yds rom ramp. Good start. We buzz up to jago pt where he bangs another 4. I am glad this is a team event. Finally I contribute w/a 2.5 lb on a spinnerbait. We leave this area in search o similiar areas and dont get touched. We went back to Jago and I catch a 5 on white spinnerbait. I then pick up a senko and bang a 3.6. Things are good. We have a limit by 10 am. We mess w/senkos or 45 minutes or so. I get another bite that swims at the boat. I set and get a 6+. Thank you God! Culling by 11. We leave this area and hit the back o konocti, anderson island, the back o the rattlesnake arm and never get touched. Back to Jago a third time and we are both thinking we may not get another bite. He puts on a roghair jig and beore too long sets on a 6+. About 2:30 we see a 5+ swimming real shallow but cant get it to bite. We weighed in 26.11 or 5 ish . Only 8 bites, but we got 7 into the boat!

Report: Some o you think I don't know how to write a short report - I'll try this time! Yes, I did get to guide Tuesday on a windy, dark, cold day. Water temp had dropped about 6 degrees since Friday night. We started about 8 AM rom Rattlesnake Island and ater going north about 1000 yards I made a U turn and went back to M&M. The wind was horriic - we could have made it but black and blue clients are not a good thing! Towed to Konocti Resort, launched, and ished north and south. All we had to deal with is 20 to 30 MPH winds changing directions every ew minutes. We were able to ish airly well and each client did land a bass. One was 4-10 on a brush hog and the other about a pound and a hal, on a Senko. As a team, we would have had a respectable day had I not lost a very large bass that rayed my 16 lb test on a cement block. Had I been at a dierent angle, I might have been able to move her out o that area. I also blew a 5 plus on a jig and Madman Craw combo. Sometimes I am neither lucky or good! It was a plain whimpy hookset. We might have had another bite or two, but that was the trip in a nutshell. We only saw one other bassboat all day, and another party that I know ished that day was skunked. The weather changes and winds this year certainly have been dramatic, to say the least!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I tried a new color Senko #306 (natural shad) because o the clear water, and that was the one that enticed the big bass to bite. She actually hit it pretty good but I couldn't move her - she had a lot o weight. My clients are ishing a tournament so I won't say any more.

Report: Where is the global warming at Clear Lake? I keep waiting. As you may know, the water temp has dropped about 6 degrees in the last week or so, and most o the bass have moved out o the shallows. During a day trip Tues, we did manage 3 shallow bass up to 5 lbs on Senkos, but that was it. Client got the 5 under a dock in Konocti Bay. Tues night, in nasty wind that never quit, my next clients and I did manage a nice 23 lb limit, 8 bass total, up to 7 lbs. Most o the ish were about 15 eet deep, and were caught on Power and brush hogs. Jig bite was o. I was surprised that the ish were more active at night in the cool weather than in the daytime. The sun was out Tues, but too much wind I guess to warm the water any.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Back to jigs in deeper water or awhile? Don't waste too much time in shallow water until the lake warms up again. Surace should be at least 58 degrees.

Report: Hey Larry rom Lakeport - you are supposed to go on the nights that they are biting!! Seriously, I have not been night ishing recently, and it may not be too good with all this cold weather. I only guided once last week at Clear Lake, since I had trips to Oroville and Amador. Wednesday a man and wie ished with me and we caught 12, with the ive best at 27 lb 3 oz. She caught her irst Senko bass in tules, and he caught several up to 4 3/4 lbs on jigs. Since it was so cold, we ished rock ledges in the Rattlesnake arm in the morning with jigs, which worked out well, and then switched to Senkos in the aternoon, ishing tules rom Buckingham point to Wheeler point. I pulled out a 7-15 rom the back o two rows o tules on a new color Senko I was trying - #159. I was trying 12# test Sugoi luorocarbon on a spinning reel - think I'll use heavier stu. That was more sport than I wanted! We also got a couple under docks with Senkos that were over 5 lbs. This was a better trip than I expected, considering the drastic weather change.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: It would be hard to give any tips now, since the weather has really been nasty this weekend, and downright dangerous. So, when will they inish spawning?? One thing about late season cold ronts - the bass respond much quicker to the turn around warm days. Things may improve on Wed and Thurs. I'll be there to see!!

Report: Fishing was decent except or all the boats rolling up on us shore ishermen. With such a big lake, why? It doesnt make a whole lot o sense with such a big lake and much better spots to ish. I I had a boat I wouldn't be wasting my time like that, I guess people dont know any better or are just plain rude. The next time I see a boat working a ish, I'm going to walk up on them rom shore, use live bait, and work the same ish just to see how they like it. Anyway, easy limits or those in the know, with this recent wind, all bets are o. There's a good moon, but like everything else, you wont know what to do until you get there...

Report: Ater being on her best behavior or my past several trips - Clear Lake seriously misbehaved Wed evening and night. The wind howled all night, and keeping the boat in a ishable position or 8 hours so my clients could ish, was a real challange in the dark o the moon. I guess I did ok, 'cause we caught 10, and missed well over 10 more. We just couldn't hook them very well in the gusting wind. I think we had some smaller ish biting too. Each client got their second biggest bass ever, one a 6-7, and the other at 6-2. We had several other quality ish or a 5 ish limit o 26 1/4 lbs. One o the ellows wanted to master jigs, and he used my Weapon jigs or his 6-7 and one nearly 5 lbs, and some others. He did ine! The other client and I used Power Hogs and brush hogs, with lots o Smelly Jelly!! We ished in any nook and cranny we could ind that would slow the wind a bit, mostly north o Konocti Resort. The wind in Konocti Bay was so bad, it sounded like the main body. Wow!! We got outta there! The ride in was an adventure, but my 488 Ranger was up to the task - barely got damp!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I ished some during the day, and ound the water temp had dropped about 4 degrees rom the previous week, and guess what. Most o the bass had moved back out o the tules and docks, at least on the west side o the Rattlesnake arm. I caught a ew on Senkos, but didn't even see a big ish. I'm sure this weekend with 80 degree weather, the bass will be back, unless there is too much ishing pressure. The question is - what will happen next week when the air temp drops maybe 15 to 18 degrees, as some are predicting? HMMMMMMM!

Report: Fished Rodman Slough or the irst time yesterday out o my Porta-Bote-turned-Bass-Buggy. Pitched a jig and threw cranks or 3 hours or more--nothin'. Then threw a rog on a promising bed o surace vegetation, and WHAM!! I got a hit on the irst cast with my new rogstick! 3lb chunky ish. Promising beginning or that stick. Nothing ater that, except a real rog (a real big rog) trying to eat my rog. Couldn't hook him. Would like to have had that picture.

Report: Since no one else has posted since my last report, I will add a ootnote. While I am loving my new ull-time day guiding job, I don't think I will give up my night guiding job either. I think I just won't sleep!! I guided two un Canadian ellows rom 5:30pm to 1:30am on a surprisingly mild evening. It started o a bit weird as we missed several on the south side o Konocti Bay, but did manage to land 3 beore dark. Their goal was to each land a bass over 5 pounds, since those are rare in Canada. These guys were pumped as I landed a 5 1/2 on a Weapon jig about 9:30. The very next cast changed his lie orever as one o them nearly doubled his goal, landed a 9 lb 9 oz pig. This bass was gorgeous, with a big pot-belly to boot! I wish every reader o this report could have been on the boat to share this guys excitement!! He took measurements or a iberglass mount. The brush hog and Power hog continue to be outstanding night baits. Ater that, we ished them the rest o the trip, catching several quality bass. Near the end o the trip, the other guy is getting concerned about not getting his 5, so I took them into the back o the marina at Buckingham. Again - I caught a 5, and on the next cast, the other guy catches his dream ish, a 5 lb 9 oz mini-toad. On our way in, we stopped at the place where the irst guy got the 9, and he hooked another big ish - at least 6 or 7 lbs, but he lost it. He tried to horse it - too much adrenalin I guess!! We landed about hal o our bites, 10 bass total, the ive biggest at 30 lbs 3 oz - my third consecutive 30 lb guided limit - what a week!! Today I took out two guys or a 6 hour intro to bass ishing trip. We ished the west side o the Rattlesnake arm, and they actually caught 3, about 2 lbs each on #221 Senkos. One o them lost a pretty big ish. I caught a ew up to 4 1/2 lbs. We quit just as the rain started!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We still ound ish in the tules today under heavy cloud cover, but not nearly as many as there were on the sunny days. Monday night I ound ish in the tules, but last night we couldn't raise a ish in the tules, only in rock. Go igure!
