Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Took my 9 year old grandson out on Friday. Launched out of lakeport at 5:30 and fished the county park area for 3 fish to 3#s. Fish caught on Senkos in the tule beds. Headed over toward Lakeport around 9am to check out the shallows and fished over 30+ fish and could not get them to go. Visibility was 10+ feet. My son and I fished the State Park area on Saturday for 5 3-4#s. Once again saw alot of cruisers but could not get them to go. Tried everything. Watched one nip at the tip of my wacky rig. This bass fishing is new to me and it is very addictive. I fished the ocean for over 50 years and now trying to learn enough to be able to compete in tournaments. Very frustrating but fun. Any input on learning more about the sport in addition to paying my dues to the bass gods would be appriciated.

Report: spent 4 days on the lake- fishing mostly the konocti area. mornings didnt seem to produce as much as the evening. averaged about 5 fish per outing in the evening. threw mostly senkos all fish were in the 4lb range, one over 5.
best part was catching a 10lb 4oz cat off the senko!!
a little slower than i expected but still great to be out on the water

Tips: work it slow. most bites came off the bottom

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Konocti and Jago 24th and 25th for a decent bite. Found fish shallow early in 1-6 ft, moving outside the main grass into 10-15 ft once the sun was high. Active fish in the early morning eating the frog and the fluke. Went to the Bluegill pattern swim jig for the deeper fish.

Report: Wow, is what I have to say! This place is on fire bed fish at the end of June?? That's what going on they are everywhere on the Lakeport end. I didn't find a lot of big ones that wanted to bite yet, but the males were on it. The 3-4 pounders were on the chew and the bigger females were setting up, and biting now I'm sure.
    City: Lakeport

Tips: If they don't bite fast move on there are plenty that are biting. Check around all the deep dock poles for the bigger fish. The drop shot was a great rig for getting them to eat fast. Don't forget to pitch in the deeper grass holes as you are looking for beds.

Tips: I mostly fish the Buckingham/Konocti area on my float tube, if anyone is interested in some float tube fishing shoot me an email, I also fish Highland Springs.

    Water Temp: 70-74

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Finally got to Clear Lake last night after many, many days guiding at Oroville. I took my buddy Mike Sperbeck - the amateur champion at last weekends 2 day tournament. Congrats - Mike!!! We started fishing about 7:30 pm and had no action. Just before dark we worked Horseshoe Bay and he got the first bass - about 2 1/2 lbs - the smallest of the trip. So, I figured I would get the largest bass of the trip in the boat, har! Working a green pumpkin Power Worm in about 20 feet of water, I got the soft hit and set hard. Glad I did!! She cleared the water 2 times and wallowed more than I really could stand. But Mike is my trusty net man and a 7 lb 5 oz bass was in the boat. What a beauty - didn't have a mark on her. Fat, too. I though maybe she hadn't spawn yet?? Well, that must have fired up Mike 'cause I netted the next 4 - one at 3 3/4 lbs and 3 from 4 to 4 lbs 10 oz. We continued with some success up to Henderson Point where the wind finally beat us up too much. There were 3 other boats there and we finally all left. I got another bass at Dollar Island and we fished a few more areas down to the back of Konocti Bay. We caught a few more with me catching the last one - about 5 lbs. Final score: Mike - 9 bass, Larry - 4. We missed or lost about 15 or so, mostly because of the wind. Really good night I felt with our 5 best over 25 lbs!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The bite seemed to be best before the moon got very high. We stayed in shadows most of the time. As often happens in clear water, the full moon was covered with clouds for about 20 minutes - around midnight. Boy - did the bite turn on!! Mike even hooked - and lost - a nice bass on a swimbait. Moon bright again - bite died again - except for the last bass around 1:30 am - the 5 pounder. Other than the Power worm, we caught bass on brush hogs, other worms, and 2 of the biggest on a D&M Piranha swim jig - including the 5. I lost 3 or 4 on that bait for some reason. We found fish from 5 to 25 feet - all depths. Senko bite didn't happen for us. Nor did topwater at dusk.

Report: All these weird weather patterns are causing real tough bite. I fished mainly Kelsey creek and other nearby sloughs due to the high winds and wave action. I tried a variety of plastics, but in the end a green pumpkin senko seemed to be the ticket. I caught three bass, ranging from 4 to 6 pounds. Target tules with weed growth in front, and don't fish too close to the cover, the fish seemed to be real finicky.

    Water Temp: est. 57-63

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Its hit and miss out there for all you bass hunters, with the spawning taking place 95% of bass are suspended...and boy do I mean suspended. I had two 3-5 pounders bedding in about 6-7 feet of water near 5th street launching facility, literally hit them in the head with everything from senkos, jigs, pop-r, spook, #13 rapala diver, minnows, spinbait (you get my point) and they still wouldnt bite. most everyone i talked to was getting skunked...except those who used a VERY sligh stealth approach and presentation (i.e. kyack with a trolling engine or paddles, or waiting a few minutes after a cast to retieve). Bass were hitting in 3-12 ft of water in gravel beds, near the tullies, marsh, high grass and other covered areas mostly on minnows, senkos, and 4-6foot diving shad replicas with light coloring/white tummy(rapalas were killin it). for catfish stick to 3-10 ft deep densely covered vegatation or along the veg line and other natural/man made variations in landscape (i.e. points, submerged fence, retaining wall etc.) with brawtwurst or chickenliver. as for the carp, try whole kernel corn cut fresh off the cob, boil it in cherry cool-aid in the marshy, dense veg areas. chum out 4-6+ cup fulls(the more the better) and let it soak in real good in ur area of presentation. then string some up on a brushless hook like you would salmon egss and drop shot it 4-12 inchs from the bottom of just sink it down to the bottom. theres nothing more exciting to a 12 year old than settin the hook and fighting in a 15-20 pound carp. not much for eating but sure makes for one hell of a fishin story, good luck and happy catching
    City: Roseville

Tips: be as stealthy as possible, and be patient. you can fish for 2 days straight and not catch nothin but a cold, but it only takes half a second to land that trophy status lunker so dont give up. they are out there its just gettin them to bite is the hard part. I had multiple anglers on $50,000 dollar boats come in skunked yet i watched a guy on a grapes of wrath style kyack with a trolling motor jerry-rigged to it reel in twp 4-6 pound large mouths and a 7 year old boy land a 6 pounder of the dock at the skylark by flippin a minnow 5 feet off the dock for less than 10 minutes.

Water Temp: did not look do

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: went out a few hours each day from the 12th-15th. Caught 6-8 bass each day. Fished the northend docks. Caught them on plastic's from senko's to creaturebaits, color did not matter as long as you fished really slow. 3-5 pound fish.

    Tips: work it really slow.

    Water Temp: 59-54

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I provided my first guided trip last night in my new Ranger Z521-250hp Evinrude Etec! What a boat - the increased length made some rough water coming in at 1 am - a piece of cake!!! It got a little nasty out there after midnight. I had two guys from the bay area and while the bite wasn't great, we did ok. We caught 6 or 7 up to 5 1/2 lbs. Best five around 17 lbs. One had already spawned - the big one had not - fat as a pig! She was in 18 to 20 feet of water. We should have landed more but one of the fellows lost 2 right at the net - one of them over 4 lbs. No! I didn't knock them off, har! Just bad luck. We fished the Rattlesnake arm and down to Konocti Bay. Brush hogs and Berkley power worms provided most of the action.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We naturally had to deal with a minor cold front, but the wind wasn't really too bad until 11:30 pm. Our best bite was the last hour of light and around midnight. I had fun doing something I used to do a lot. I would tell one of the fellows to cast to a specific fence line or underwater rock, saying: "there is always a bass there!" And there was - this time. Fun, fun!! It looks like it it is going to turn winter-like again this weekend, so we probably are going to experience another long, drawn-out spawn.

Report: I fish the Buckingham area from a pontoon float tube and the fishing is the best I have seen in years. Water is looking good on this end of the lake and the fish are active. Senkos and River Bugs have been working well for me, working around docks and tule pockets. Seeing lots of BIG fish cruising around. My fish have been between 3-6 pounds and looking like very healthy females that are already spawned out.
    City: Kelseyville

Tips: Look for a hot top water bite soon!

    Water Temp: 58°-62°

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished 2nd and 3rd, skunked in the morning of the 2nd, then got one big girl (didn't weigh her, was too busy fishing, but 6+ for sure) at dusk up near Buckingham point on on of the little islands on a t-rigged yumdinger in pumpkin. Pretty windy. Pulled out a couple of two's and one 3+ or so, and called it quits just after dark. hit it again next day, better results in the AM. Fished Windflower side of the Rattlesnake arm, bagged several little guys on tule points, then ducked into the keys to flip docks and rocks for a bit. Latched on to a pig across from the campsite by the inlet flipping a seawall with rock, got a glimpse by the boat, and she spit the jig. Aaaargh. Bummer. She had picked it up and swam away with it when I set the hook. The bite had been really subtle, so when she tapped it, I gave her a little line...too much, it turned out! I had previously missed a couple of fish by setting the hook before they'd had time to pick it up. They'd give it a tap, then take their sweet time grabbing it. They're still a little sluggish. Picked up a few more in the Oaks and headed to the flats by the Elem reservation and picked up 2 more on the yum worms, called it quits. Just a taste of what's coming. It is about to break wide open with the weather. Nice to be out and not freezin' my ass off!
    City: Clearlake Park

Tips: Go slow, soak your bait a little. Flipped a revenge jig with rage tail trailer, Mann's Augertails and Yumdingers. All subtle colors, green pumpkin, watermelon candy. etc. Most fish in tules with some rock, 5-10'. Also tossed a blade along some sea walls and likely spots, but nada.

    Water Temp: 58

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: First time to Clear Lake, went for a 3 day trip.
    Stayed at Indian Beach.
Fished entirely in the Rattlesnake arm.
On Friday got skunked. Others staying at the camp reported similar results. Most attributed it to the freezing temps the night before.
Next day was much better, caught 4 all over 3 pounds one pushed 5. 2 on senkos one on shakey head one on a zoom trick worm
Sunday had only a couple of hours due to car trouble but got my first fish on a swimbait, 7" Osprey, top hook, in light hitch, crawled along the bottom = 4.12.
    City: Monterey

Tips: Plastics were the ticket. Most fish caught on the North facing bank of the the rattlesnake arm.
Most caught near old granite boulders or cliffs.

    Water Temp: 57-62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: This post is a bit old but here goes. We were at Clear Lake from March 31st until April 16th and it was a blast. The best day I had was Monday April 4th and the bite started around 8am and lasted a good hour and a half. Boated at least 20 fish in that time and it was unreal. All fish were caught on swimbaits and jerk baits in a 40 yard stretch. The rest of the time I used the swimbait and jerk bait tandem and it seemed to work good. If not I pushed up to the tulies and flipped a few nice fish in the boat. I fished from the Keys to Rodman slough and caught fish in a bunch of places with those baits. The bite seemed to be a morning bite for sure.
I did get 3 blow ups on frogs in the first week of April but didn't get any hook ups. Not ready yet I guess but with the weather your having now. Oh boy wish I was there! Have fun fishing a great lake fellas and Ladies.
Mike and see ya next April

    Water Temp: 54-62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: With the water level up and the surface temp rising there will be more shallow fish biting and more spawners everyday.

The fishing this last week has been great but the catching on some days slow, Its like one day they bite great and then the next I have to work hard to get a limit.

We are catching fish up to 5 1/2 pounds and even a few small keeper size fish. Using plastics, jigs, swim baits and minnows.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: Tips, if you find a school of pre spawn fish and they dont bite try returning to them a few timed during the day.
My best luck catching the pre spawn fish has been in 23 to 14 ft of water.

    Water Temp: 50 - 54

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took my boy's up to the Lake Thurs & fri, (they were on Spring Break)got there about 12:00 Thurs. Fished outside and in Rodman Slough, the wind was steady, Ricky picked up a 4.3lb'r & lost a good fish on the outside tule on the left side. Squeezed under the bridge & went into Rodman, picked up a couple more up on a flat on the left side, 2.8 & 2.0. Came back out and fished the right side in a little cove just outside Rodman and I picked up a 4.5lb'r. the wind started picking up so we cruised the north shore and Ricky picked up one more off a point with metal wall in front of a house (4.1lb). Then the wind really started blowing and the clouds came in with rain, so we hit a little cove just outside of the Konocti Casino and Sean picked up a 2.8lb'r. All of the fish were caught on a Chrt/Wht spinner bait. Off the water at 4:00, due to bad weather. Woke up Fri. to the coldest temp I ever had at Clear Lake 31'! This shut the fish down, I picked up 2 fish (4.1 & 4.3) one on drop shot and one on Swimbait.
    City: Pacifica

Tips: Fish were all caught just on the edge of submerged tules slow rolled, tried jigs, brushhogs, sweet beaver, senkos, crankbait(little bit) and dropshot no success.

    Water Temp: 52-53

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Mike Sperbeck and I got to fish our "private" lake again last night - not a single boat out after dark! Since we heard it was in the high 20's yesterday morning, we were hoping just to get bit. We launched out of Red Bud about 6 pm and caught nothing for the first hour or so. Mike was using his usual Senko and I was testing the new 5" Yamamoto Flappin' hog - #954. It is mind-boggling went you fish a long time with no bites and then the rod is nearly jerked out of your hand by a superbass bite! Wasn't even excited - had to be a catfish!! No whiskers and the bass weighed 6 lbs 1 oz. Using the same bait after dark, another good bite and she weighted 7 lbs 3 oz! I approved this message (Yamamoto bait)!! They work!!! My D&M Piranha swim jig landed me 2 more nice bass and one was landed on a brush hog. Mike chose last night to loose a big bass - she came off halfway to the boat. He lost another "5" at the boat. Bummer. He did land 4 up to 4 1/4 lbs. We could have had a great limit but only had a bit over 24 lbs. Nine bass total with a few missed and lost was a "better than we expected" evening! We quit about 11 pm.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We did find a few "pods" of bass. We got a few bites in one area and nothing in another. The majority of bites were 10 to 20 feet on rock structure. We combed some of the new underwater tulles, etc, with spinnerbaits, swimjigs, and Senkos - thinking there might not be any shallow after the cold front. We were right! It truly has been a March Miracle II - lake looks in great shape and bass will have some good cover again for spawning. In spite of no shad, fish are in beautiful shape!!

Report: My wife managed to catch her first decent bass up near Lucerne. went about 7.5lbs on the scale and back into the water. Last fall she caught many double digit catfish in the same area so shes liking clearlake fishing. Because of this, my normal fishing partners spend a lot of time home because she loves fishing now and i get to hit the water alot more.

Report: Great day on the lake. Started off slow in the morning with fish mostly caught on senkos. After 3 P.M. the water temperature started to rise and the bite was on. Spinnerbaits around docks worked the best. Fish mostly south of Konocti Casino. Smallest fish was about 2.5 and most were around 3-5 LBs.
