Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: This last weeks fishing has been on and off again, we are still catching fish deep down south and some in the shallows up north. Average size has been strong fighting 3 to 4 1/2 pounders. A couple days I had a great frog bite going with fish up to 5 pounds.

Caught fish on Frogs, Jigs, Hippo Tackle 5" Swim Baits, Cranks and Worms, with the best size fish eating the Frog.

The cooler nights have cleaned up the algae and the lake is healthy with lots of baby bass and bait everywhere.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: Tips: Cover allot of water, when you find them, slow down and fish the area throughly. Try and develop a pattern and you may be able to run it all day.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got in a few hours each day 7th-9th. Last two days just fished off the dock, as my tilt/trim malfunctioned on the merc. Bite was off and on, but did better towards dusk than AM, except for one day: I woke up at 4AM on the 8th to the sound of rain on the water...1/2 the cove was BOILING with silversides, and lots of bass smacking them. Saw several injured minnows swimming in circles around the dock, it was just a slaughter. Tried to match the hatch with a 78 pointer, but it was lost in the crowd. Did get one 3# on a chartreuse blade at 6AM, but the fish had gorged and were taking a siesta all day. It was a pretty awesome sight. Did just okay the rest of the time, a few more on blades, one on a king shad, a few on T-rigged jelly worms. Threw spooks and sammy's at dusk, but nada. With all the baitfish, I threw mostly reaction baits, as my results with jigs and worms wasn't great. I think the one's that picked up the jelly worms were looking for dead bait falling to the bottom. Nothing bigger than 4#.
    City: Clearlake Park

Tips: Was only on the boat for a few hours, but did best with blades.

    Report: .......
    August 20th-27th..........

This last week was off and on, some days the fish were willing to bite and then some days it was tough to get a limit.

I fished mostly in the south but I did spend some time up north. Our best fish were caught on the Ganesh Bug fished shallow, and also caught some nice ones on swimbaits and top water.

There was much less algae this week, some cooler nights and wind helped to break it up.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: In the south try fishing deep with jigs and drop shots, up north try frogs or plastics. Try football jigs and drop shots
in the rocks close to breaks or on the deeper side of the ledge.
Fishing top water and frogs will work but you might have to cover allot of water and run around during the day. Timing is critical so recheck your spots during the day to see when the bite is the best.

Report: Fished Friday. Lazy start about 8am. Caught 2 fish in 18-20 ft on carolina rig baby brush hogs. Moved to a rock dock area and caught 2 more in 12 to 16 feet (lots of bait in the water). At 11:30 moved in and threw frog on mats around rocks and docks. Caught 4lber on frog> no other blow ups. tossed my drop shot in shade of dock and caught 1 more. 6 fish from 8:30 to 1pm. Went in. Fished again on Sunday, ran north and wasted a lot of time throwing buzz baits and frogs on mats off shore. Nothing. Moved to county park area and caught fish on spook, jigs and carolina rigged brush hogs. Tons of bait everywhere. The jig fish hit while swimming it back, so I tried rippin. Had one chaser to the boat no strikes.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

    Report: Clear Lake, August 13th - 18th........

Fished from the south end to mid lake, finding water with less algae this week was easy.
Finding the fish on some days required some running around but when we found them they were easy to catch. Some days we caught lots of fish but a couple days it was tough to get a good limit.
Best 5 on Sunday went 23 plus pounds with a 8 pound kicker, on Tuesday 23 pounds and a 6 1/2 pounder. And a couple large catfish.

Fished Jigs, Flukes, Worms, and some Reaction. The best bite for me was deep but still caught some fish shallow.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: The worm and jig bite was still light so be aware or they will spit it out before you can set the hook. Keep an eye on your electronics for bait and fish. If you find them and they dont bite keep going back during the day and most likely they will eat. I have been using tungsten weights for the worms and drop shot, I am addicted. Tungsten really helps to feel everything from wood to rocks, shells, etc.

    Water Temp: 78-79

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I had a wonderful time Fri afternoon giving a seminar to the Future Pro Tour guys and gals before their tourney today. What a great group! Hope I didn't confuse them!! After the seminar, I was able to give out many sample paks of the new 4 1/2" Yamamoto Flappin Hogs. I am thinking this will be another great night bait also, so, after the seminar and a bite to eat at McDonalds, I launched at Red Bud about 8 pm to try them out. The baits worked a lot better than I did. One of those nights where I lost a bunch of fish and snagged anything that was on the bottom!!! I lost 7 or 8 fish but did land a 3 3/4 lber and one just under 5 lbs. The big bass just crushed it, as did one I broke off. The breakoff was my fault as I was using a spinning rod with 12 lb test - what a dummy!! My left shoulder was bothering me so I used spinning rods. After losing the first 3, I realized I needed a bigger hook since the Flappin hog is a thick bait. The 5/0 Gami EWG did the trick. Overall, the night bite just didn't see very aggressive.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Overall, the night was dark and quiet. Some carp were rolling at dusk - and then nothing. A truly amazing Friday night in August - probably because of Konocti Resort being closed. After dark, I didn't see another boat until just before I left - 12:30 am. Two pleasure boats going somewhere. I did check water clarity as best I could and found it to be pretty clear in most spots - all the way to Henderson. The cool week probably slowed it considerably. The worst water was around Fraizer Point - where I didn't get bit. My boat didn't even smell in the garage this morning!

    Water Temp: 80

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: The bite really picked up last week, I was fun fishing and was able to catch some nice fish, the biggest was a fat 8 1/2 pounder, and then in the last two days I had to work hard for a decent limit. So any given day it can be great fishing or a lot of work.

I did much better when there was some wind, the silver sides are everywhere, I think the wind positions them on structure and then the bass are easier to catch.

I have been launching at Red Bud and the ramp and area has much cleaner water, also in the Rattlesnake side if there is some wind the algae gets moved around and it is easy to find clean water. Every day has been a bit different, I just run around and find clean water if the algae is giving me trouble.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: For the deep bite fish slow and try Jigs, Shakey Heads, Texas ridged worms and drop shots.
For the shallow bite try 5" Sinkos or the 5" Hippo Swimbait, fish both in the weeds or along the weed edges and in shade pockets on docks.
For me, moving around until I found them was key.

    Water Temp: 80

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished from mid day Friday to mid day Saturday. Fished till about 9:30pm Friday night and were back out at 6:00am the next morning. Only one fish between two of us for the trip. The one 3# fish was caught on a buzz bait near the state park on Friday evening at about 6:30pm. No other fish, even on plastics. Very rare for us not to get at least a few on plastics. Found one spot, across the lake from the state park, that had fairly clean water, (still green but no chucks of algae like everywhere else), and not one bite. The bait fish were heavy in this area. As you would pull your lure in, you could see bait fish jumping everywhere to get away from your lure. No bass nearby, (that would bite anyway).

Report: Fished the State Park area from the swim beach to Cole Creek with a float tube from 9 A.M. to sunset. Caught two 3.5 lbers with purple senkos rigged weightless, both inside Cole Creek near the boat launch. Otherwise, it was completely dead.

    Water Temp: 79 - 82

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: The Fishing really has picked up in the last week with better numbers and larger fish.
In the last few guided trips I had a kid catch his first fish ever and another catch his biggest limit. Fish range from 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds. On Saturday we had a 22 1/2 lb limit and over 20 fish in a 6 hour day fishing with soft plastics and some reaction baits.

I fished both the north and south end. In the south the algae is thick at the launch ramp but I was able to fish in cleaner water all week.

I found the fish to be grouped up and most of the spots we fished we could catch a bunch of them if we had patience and stayed on them.
    City: Clear Lake

Tips: Tips.. Fish slow, most of the bites are soft or just pressure.
Use your electronics to find bait and fish, If you find the bait the fish are close by. For the shallow bite flip the weed and shade pockets or throw the Frog. For deep fish keep an eye on your graph.

Report: Fished the State Park area from the swim beach to Cole Creek with a float tube from noon to sunset. Not much action at all. Caught two 3.5 lbers with topwater frogs, one at the weeds outside the swim beach buoy line, and one at by the tules at the mouth of Cole Creek. Missed two as well. Otherwise, it was completely dead.

Report: Fished the Konocti area, water is pretty nasty, but fishing was good. I only had a few hours to fish but had 3 big blow ups on a tournament frog... but couldn't hook up. Downsized to a swamp frog and bingo. Almost every dock or cove with weeds had fish blowing up. Fish were up to 4 pounds.
    City: K-ville

Tips: Top water was the ticket. Water is so thick with weeds could really only throw a frog. You boat guys probably want to flush out your rigs when you're done!

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Hi James-- I too just fished there on Saturday and the South side is pretty slimy with all the green alge growth and it does smell pretty bad but the North is a lot cleaner and you should still be able to swim and do the family water thing in the North. Just make sure that the kids/adults bathe real well after water outings on the lake. Have fun in Clearlake. Bring along a water hose so that you can wash down your boat and trailer when you're all done. Don't forget your boat/trailer sticker and boat inspection for the dreaded quagga muscle.

Report: Fished AC/WRL tourney. Caught all in the south end near Wheeler. Fished deep, in clearer water. The water smells and looks like baby puke but the fishing was off the hook. No swimbait bite or cranks, bottom bouncing was the ticket for us.

Tips: I would still fish here! The fishing is still good, but you MUST flush your motor after you get off the water.

Report: Caught 5 bass (biggest 4 lbs) took 1 hour to clean boat afterwards. Lake looks and smells like crap (not kiddin) after I got back home to report and now reading reports of lake conditions) stupid me for not doing so. what the hell happened to this lake?

Tips: try elswhere. even if you catch a few fish, not worth the smell and cleaning of boat afterwards. previous post before me, you must be desperate.

    Water Temp: 75-85

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: My family and I have been fishing here at clear lake since the 19th. this is the first time we have been here and i can't wait to be back when it is as good as it should be. we have been averaging 10 to 12 nice(3 to 5lb.) fish every day with the biggest being 7.7lb. I can catch them on about anything when i locate them. We have mainly been flipping but caught 6 nice fish off a point with dd22 crankbaits in about 20 min. one evening.
    City: kelso, Wa

Tips: Find the crayfish, then you will find the fish. Try bright red jigs and soft plastics. Heavy jigs in the grass(1-1.5oz). If that dosen't work find 15 to 25 feet and throw the crankbait. they are there and willing to bite you just have to be out there and do it.
    Good Luck! Bassboy 17
