Report: Brrrrrrrr!! Another nice "spring" day at Clear Lake. I picked up my client who hails from Virginia and we drove to Lakeport and launched about 9:30 am among a crowd of boats trailers - all 5 of them!! We left the ramp enjoying the latest snowfall on the east mountains - from last night! As I thought it would - the north wind was up in no time and blew hard all day. We started fishing from the Lakeport ramp north to Rodman - boating 7 bass with my client losing the usual biggest bass. Broke his line which probably had a nick in it. He did boat the biggest of the day at 4 lbs even. We even had bass on back to back casts - but that was the only "fast" action!! I didn't even know if we would catch one with the horrid conditions, so client and guide left the lake with "frozen" smiles! Our 5 best were around 16 lbs.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: My tip? Wait for 2 or 3 days of warmer weather!! We did see one shallow bass and she was shivering!! We found most of our success on walls and surprisingly - wood walls. My client was a good caster and got his fish on Senkos. I was using a brown/orange Blade Runner jig w/#180 Yamamoto grub trailer most of the time. Senkos did seem to be the top bait however. Average depth of our fish was about 6 to 8 feet. It was important to find deeper water near the walls.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Sorry for the late report. Lots of fish on beds including a 6+ in front of the house. Couldn't get her to bite though. Caught fish on jigs, senkos and ripbaits. All fish were about 3 lbs with one at 5. About 7 fish total with 3 guys fishing fri night, sat and sun morning. Hope you have better luck than us - it was tough, hadn't been here in six months.
    City: Concord

Tips: Most fish caught were in the evening, with a couple at night. Couldn't get anything to bite in morning. Fish the North end of the lake, nothing we caught were in the South.

Report: Devil Mountain Bassmasters lauched 8 boats from the Ferndale Resort on the 24th & 25th with gorgious weather and clear skies, my partner and I ran north on the first day and caught 2 fish in the 2 lb range in the morning and struggled for another bite all day. The weigh in on the first day 1st place had 18+ lbs. for 5 fish. The 2nd Day my partner and I ran to the keys and fished very shallow water throwing unweighted texas rigged Senkos green pumpkin and black flake, you had to really soak them before the fish picked them up, most bites were just mushy, I caught one sight fish. The resort hospitality was exceptional and highly recommended along with a great dinner at Zino's Resteraunt. A total of 84.04 lbs was caught for two days and a big fish of5.09 lbs.
    City: Martinez

Tips: Slow Slow Slow, and if you don't succeed slow down.
The fish we caught were skinny males, they haven't eatin for a while and they were showing it, soon the will be munchin hard.

    Water Temp: 56-63

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: I just came home from a Wednesday thru Sunday Clear Lake run. We caught the tail end of the rainy weather and wind. Water clairty varied from 1 foot visibility in the keys(Maximun) to 3-4 feet up north. Capt. Jack was right on with on of the patterns. Our big fish day came on Thursday when my friend lost about a 8-10+ right at the boat! Snapped new 15lb. like it was sewing thread! It looked like teeth issues were a factor in the break off. I did manage to land a solid 6lb. beast in a very rocky area. She bit, and ran straight into a rock formation, for 20 seconds I couldn't move her... finally got her out...., and to the boat! YEAH! Friday was the best day of the week, nothing bigger than 3.75; but the best numbers boated for the week.

    Tips: Great trip!!!!!!

Report: Well for the most part of the nice day on the water, Basin Bassmasters only had three limits come in. The winning weight was 18.55 lbs with a six pound kicker. The winners used a 4" Senko wacky style, skippin under docks. They stayed with that all day and found one next to a post also.
    City: Rocklin

Tips: Stick with under the docks and let it fall to the bottom, wait and set the hook. 10-15 ft of water.

Report: Fished the rattlesnake area last week with marginal success. The size was good but the numbers were low. Averaged about 5-8 fish per day. The largest was a beautiful 8.2 female full of eggs...next was a 7.0 with the rest in the 3-5 lb. range...nothing under 3. Most successful bait was the senko (color didn't matter), white spinnerbait, and a jig. Almost all fish came in water 4' or less right off the bank.

    Water Temp: 52-56

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: No reports in April - for 7 or 8 days? I was supposed to guide 2 senior citizens from the mid-west for 3 days earlier in the week, but we only got in about 10 hours Mon and Tues and the bite was real slow. They missed a few and one of them got a nice 3 1/2 pounder Monday afternoon before the cold rain set in again and Tues started off with pretty good weather before rain and wind shortened the trip. The same fellow landed another bass and missed one or two. The other client used lures he brought including Mepp's spinners and small crankbaits. I wish they had worked! We fished in the narrows area - was too cold to boat too far. It was in the 80's when they left their home - and 40's to low 50's at Clear Lake. Sad!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Not too much to say. All bites were on jigs, beavers, and small brush hogs - in 5 to 10 feet of water.

Report: Two of us fished for two days and caught seven bass around three pounds on senkos, jigs, and a shaky head in 3 to 5 feet of water. Attended a seminar at Tackle It fishing shop in Lakeport and it helped my fishing. Ed offers the seminar every Wednesday night at 6 and discusses how to fish current conditions. Well worth attending.
    City: Novato

Tips: For me, the up and down weather created a tough bite. Be patient - fish were here and there.

Report: I guided a husband/wife team again after the first trip with them 10 years ago. This time we went in their new Ranger Z-21!! She landed a 5 pounder then but lost the 2 she had on this trip. Her husband landed a 4 pounder about 2 minutes after I landed a 4 1/2 pounder - both on Senkos. After a break at their house, she turned over her seat to her 8 year old son. He is a pretty good fisherman already! Dad missed a good fish and while he was trying to get it to bite again, I threw a #301 Senko into a bush and nailed a "hot" 3 lb 2 oz bass. It charged out of the bush at full speed - about 20 feet - and slammed into his boat. Wow!! We had 7 bites but only put 3 in the boat.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The previous poster commented on the nice weather - and it was nice Wed. So much for the nice weather - nasty this weekend coming up!

Report: The weather is getting better, High 60's. Fishing structure. Drop shot senkos, tube baits and finesse baits seem to be working. Fish could move into the shallows next day or so but been catching them in 10-15 feet of water. The water is very clear and the lake is almost full.

    Water Temp: 48-56

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of my Spring break. The weather was crazy and cold. Fished both ends of the lake, but had most success in the Rattle Snake arm and State Park area. The pattern we got on was to fish any mixture of cover as long as there was wood involved. Senkos and spinnerbaits caught most of our fish. Started to figure out the swimbait bite on the last day. I'm not a swimbait guy but have invested a bunch of money in them. Finally caught a fish on one of the bigger baits. Got three bites on the Osprey and landed the biggest fish of the trip. The fish was close to 7 lbs. Seemed like the larger fish were backed off in somewhat open water. What I mean by that is the bites I had were away from obvious cover. Wish we could have had better weather, but we did pretty well for what was thrown at us. Caught close to 30 fish for the three days with decent quality. Best 5 for Wed.= 16lbs Thurs.=18lbs Fri.=19lbs.
    City: Clovis

Tips: If the water remains cool, key on wood. The wood fish were surpisingly shallow. Just make sure the boat has a little depth under it. If you want swimbait fish, I would try more open water. Fish seemed to be out in chanels and ditches.

Report: First time on the lake since last summer and in high anticipation for a pre-spawn bite, I left the plastics in the tackle box and threw some deep diving lures and I'll be damed if I caught a few and lost a nice one. Overall, fishing was slow. Even saw a few folks fishing with minnows with only moderate success.
    City: Fort Bragg

Tips: Used crawdad lipless crankbait most of the day. I want to encourage folks to submit there reports, even if the fishing is poor. It helps to put reports in the note book.

Report: Did some float tube fishing in the Buckingham area, not much action for me but that doesn't mean the fish aren't biting. Drop shotting, jigs, plastics, and swim baits are good choices with a slow presentation. Being a float tube fisherman, I like to drop shot about 10 foot of water and just drift along the bank without reeling in. Live bait seems to be the ticket for higher numbers of bass. Jumbo minnows are the #1 choice. The water is very clear and the fish should start staging any day now. The weather is supposed to be nice all week. I have heard the tournament guys were spotting a few fish already moving onto the beds.

    Water Temp: 52

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Saturday and Sunday march 6,7 with great success. Took my son and his buddy to the lake for the weekend. We used the go to bait (Jumbo minnow) this time of year with the fishing being a bit tough. 8 dozen minnows and 60 plus fish later we had a great time to say the least.Caught fish from 2 to 6.1 pounds. average in the 3.8 oz.range. We fished the south end of the lake, to be specific the call the Keys. In my opinion with the water being a couple of degrees warmer than the main lake the fish I think were starting a pre-spawn mode. The reason for saying that is they were hammering the bait like it was their last meal. Good thing I catch and release or it would have. Go see my buddy Bob at Limit out Bait and Tackle great guy very informative. Been going there for a dozen years. He has what you need more times than not.
    City: Plumas Lake

Tips: Minnows almost a sure bet this time of the year. come mid-April you should be able to catch them with your car keys. LOL!! Good luck to all.

    Water Temp: 49-51

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: My friend Mike need to go fishing (I certainly didn't, har!) - so we made the trek to Clear Lake to see if we could get any night fish. It was supposed to be cloudy with some showers - but as usually for me, all stars!! It wasn't too cold however and the breeze was light. We fished the Oaks arm and several spots in the narrows. We did ok with 9 bass in the Ranger up to 5 1/4 lbs and a limit of 19+ lbs. We fished from 8 pm 'til 12:30 am. It was an early night bite - couldn't get anything after 11:30 pm. We lost 3 good fish for some reason (brains we too cold to set the hook?)! Brush hogs and jigs were our baits of choice and one on a D&M swim jig. Cold front moved them out again I think, though we did hook a few on the edges of tulles at Rattlesnake Island. Some of our bass came out of 20+ feet still.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Even with the cold night Thursday, some bass were still as shallow as 5 feet. Finally we actually felt a slight bite instead of the usual winter pressure bite. Once the weather settles and warms again for a few day, the "bite" should be on!!
