Water Temp: 80-83
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Water still very clear, spoke to a guy who had 26 lbs on frogs up at near Niec but it died after 9:30 am, I think the water is still to clear for an all day frog bite. I brought my 3 year old twins with me for the first time together and they did very well but we mostly swam, I fished about 4 hrs on Sat and 4 hrs on Sun. I fished Senkos, Sweet beavers & trick worms for 14 fish to 3 lbs, had a 4 come off on Sat:( On Sunday had around 7 fish to 3lbs but again we were mostly having fun in the sun.
City: San JoseTips: Bubba shot Sweet Beavers in front of tullies, Senkos under deep docks and you can always catch a ton of rats with 6 inch watermellon trick worms drop shottin. Find bait and toss out the drop shot and don't move it for 20-30 seconds and when you feel for weight there usually a 1 lber on it.
I fished the south end on Sat and North end on Sun.

Report: The water was at it's best and the Bass was ready for the BASS Federation Nation Qualifying Tournament out of Konocti Vista. Two 6 hour tournaments for five fish on Thursday and one 6 hour on Saturday. The two days most of the bass were caught all over the lake on frogs, drop shot, senko and jigs (capt Jacks). The average weight for five fish was 16 lbs. A few anglers came in with 20 +. The 12 best are now the California BASS Federation State Team for 2008.
Next year make sure you sign up for the tournament.
City: RocklinTips: fish around rocks with tules and steep drop offs near. also the docks are the best.

Water Temp: 78
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Clear Lake on a Thurs/Fri (7/26,27) with my guide and long term friend Cliff Croxall of Benecia, Ca. What a memorial two days! Started both early, full moon mornings off with an incredible topwater bite! Landed a 9-10 and 6-1 on a Zara Spook just before the break of dawn. The big girl exploded on the Spook like nothing I have ever seen before. Easily a 10 or 11 in the spring. The jig bite was the best pattern overall on structure in 20-26'. Fished mostly the south end of the lake. Also caught a few dropshotting and with the 6" Senko. Another highlight was catching a 4 lb cat on a spinnerbait!! Thanks Cliff!! Can't wait till next year!
City: San Diego, CATips: spooks and sammy's best within the first hour before sunrise. 1/2 oz jigs w/ sweet beaver trailer best overall mid-day pattern in 20-26.'

Water Temp: 80+
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the day after a Full moon and only 10 minnows at the most. Minnows are 2 lbers at Clear Lake. Then then next evening fished from 6 til midnight with my friend that used to work for a guide and we both only got 3 fish each. Dont know if the 4 days of full or near full moons filled there bellys. I saw Lots of food in the form of Shad and Fry. LOTS. Also saw the bottom in spots I have never seen before because the lake is low and the water is clear. Biggest went 2.5......lol....I know most guys dont post on here when they dont catch em at CL but....well I sucked it up the past few times
Tips: Wait a week after the full moon.I think they have been eating alot lately.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The wife and I finally got on the lake just before noon on Sunday. After three weeks of work, traveling and other stuff it was great to be on the water once again. We ended up taking just over 30 fish using many different techniques. Drop-shot, Basstrix, Jig and Shakey Head worm all took fish for us. We had two unusual occurences today as well. The first involved seeing a full grown bald eagle, that was way cool. The second (and this has never happened to me) was having an Osprey swoop down and grab my 6" lunker punker (I kid you not) the fish grabbed the lure and actually took drag for a few seconds before dropping the lure. How the bird avoided the hooks was beyond me, but I sure was thankful it did. Anyhow the biggest fish of the day was a 5-5 I took at Henderson finesse fishing a baby brushhog on a shakey head jig, our best 5 for the day went just over 19lbs.

Water Temp: 75-77
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Clear Lake still off the hook, water still very clear, some spots you can still see down 6 feet, I also saw lots of bait fish, 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inchs long. The night bite was not good for me on Fri night, though a night tourney produced a 28 lb limit but the guys I spoke to had 18 lbs and they did not bring home a check, I also had around 18 lbs with two 5 lbers on Sat and about 22 fish total. Sat night was worse so went to sleep for 3 hrs and fished the Sun morn AM bite with little success until 8 and went in for coffee and donuts, bought some small bait fish fluks to try drop shot and got zero bites on them, I could see fish under docks and said hey lets try a watermelon senko and for the next 2 hrs I wacked them, first dock 5 lber, next dock 5 lber next dock 6 lber and I went back to each dock and got 3 lbers and than did it again and got 2 lbers, I can not tell how big a fish is in 2 feet of water under a dock because the 2 lbers tuned into 6 lbers and the 6 lbers turned into 3 lbers, I do not know how to sight fish in the Spring so it was awesome seing the fish eat the Senko right in front of you. Now don't laugh at me but I was using my crucial drop shot rod with 8 lb line to fish my Senko's, I can skip that thing so well under the docks but sure enouph it happend, I had a fish pull about 30 yards of line until it snapped my 8 lb line like it was 2 lb line, I didn't even slow it down, I hooked it by the bank and it was headed for the dock 40 yards away so I was trying to stop it before it got there, it may have been a big cat because I did get a couple of 4 lber on my drop shot the night before at the same spot. I can handle a 6 lber on my 8 lb line with no problem, I have caught 5 fish over 6 bls on it with no problem so what ever it was was big. 18 lbs on Sat, 22 lbs on Sun.
City: San JoseTips: Watermelon, watermelon, watermelon what ever you throw use watermelon with any flake, Senko, Brush hog, sweet beaver, hula grub and worm. During the heat of the day toss that senko under docks in the shade, it also works in open water but not as good, I did catch a few in open water, be patient and let it fall all the way to the bottom, even if its 20 feet deep, I got me 6 lber in 20 feet in front of the dock though most of my fish were in 2-4 feet of water, I could see them:). I want to thank all the people that took photo's for me, I had 2 tourney guys take pictures for me, one team in a Bass Cat and one team in a Stratos, these guys gave the sport a good name and were happy to take the photo's for me.

Water Temp: 80ish
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I took my 9 year old daughter to sample the action. We got a late start, 10 am and really didnt catch a fish till a tad after 11am. Rodstrainer jigs made up the bulk of our fish. I only caught one fish over three pounds today, but it was a good one, 6.25. Not long and skinny, but short and fat. I saw a group of fish shallow in the rocks and cast a jig in 1 foot of water and brought it by them. One ate it. That does not usually happen in July at 11:30am. Then my daughter throws her senko in the right vicinity. and before long yells that she has one....what a nice fish for a 9 year old. 2.75lbs. She hooked another, but it broke off down below the boat. The farther north(shag rock, henderson) we went, the tougher the bite was. This may have been due to the time of day also, 4pm. Finished up down south in some trees w/5 more, but only 2 of them were big enough to write home about.
City: yuba CityTips: Unlike others, I saw millions, ok, maybe only a million shad today. They were bunched up in the shade near henderson. I also saw what I believe were many schools on the meter.

Water Temp: 75-80
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fishing was great. I was standing in the water in the north area of clear lake and I saw bass literally 3 feet from my legs. I caught 8 off of senko rootbeer and watermelon. One bite off of buzzbait near the docks. Everytime I caught a fish there was others following along! A seven-pounded was following my bass! As always shad been swimming everywhere! I used my new abu garcia revo/lamiglas senko special and it was great! Good fishing buddies!
City: santa rosaTips: Switch up colors of senkos. Go wacky with gamagotsu's weedless hooks(ewg). Also try Xrap minnow or shad look alike rapala's in the beds around 7-8 feet.
(bass are around 7-10 feet around beds and vegetation) -
Water Temp: 73-81
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Alert! Shad spotted!! Actually I saw one 3/8" shad dying on the surface near Anderson Island. Hope that wasn't the LAST one!!! I did spot a few tight small schools of bait on the meter at about 25 feet in the south end. Let's hope! I finished 4 days of guiding Mon-Thurs and found nothing new - the bite is still good though average size is down a bit. While many appear to be on a slim-fast diet, we did get some that looked like bass from last year - they must have found those shad schools! Highlights included my longest-standing client (since 1984) having a great day Wed landing many bass including a 5 pounder in spite of lots of pain from a recent fall. On Tues a father brought his 11 year old son who had never fished much before and never caught a bass. He could cast however. The Clear Lake bass hope he never returns as he was 9 for 10 - 10 bites and 9 in the boat up to 3 1/4 lbs. I watched in amazement as he started pitchin' to docks with a spinning rod with no hint from me as to what pitchin' was or how to do it. Talk about instincts!! He is a natural! We fought the wind Mon and Tues and then hoped for a breeze to cool us off on Wed and Thurs. Forgot what a flat Clear Lake looked like! Overall, fishing was excellent with counts of 26, 32, 35, and 40+ bass caught and released. 3 of the 4 trips were teach-the-lake and techniques trips - moving around a lot looking at different structures. Pros-to-be in the making - especially the 11 year old!
City: Yuba CityTips: The algae that was forming in the Oaks arm during the last short heat spell has all but disappeared. There is pretty good water color however. The normal early morning summer carp splashing did not happen much this week (south end) because of the cooler water I guess. In keeping with that, the bass activity didn't really start for us until later in the morning, except for a few buzz-bait fish up to 4 lbs. The jig bite continues to be great with black/blue the best color. Brown/orange produced a few yesterday. Junebug 10" Power and 8" Dead Ringer worms were excellent too. The Yamamoto Kreature baits were the baits of choice however - Junebug (#213) the best and green/pumpkin (#301) second. We used Senkos yesterday a lot with excellent results - hooking bass up to 4 1/2 lbs. Best colors were 912, 921, 927, and 213. We found lots of shallow bass yesterday crusing around in the weeds from 3 to 6 feet deep. Even spotted a few under docks in the shade - thought it was spring revisited!! I nailed a good Senko bass under a sailboat but lost it half way in. One of the fellows yesterday did some drop-shotting with 5" Senkos and did very well - hooking the biggest of the day. If you haven't used the laminate colored Senkos yet - you should!

Report: Went out around 4:00 and started with brush hogs the big boys.My buddy Carl started off with a #4 on second cast. The bite seemed to be hot for him,he had 3 in the boat before I even got a bite.I had the last laugh when I hooked a #8 then the next cast stuck a #10.The best fishing of my life.Good luck!!!!
City: SonomaTips: Look for feeding birds thats where the big ones are at.

Water Temp: 72-77
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I spent Fri and Sat on a butt seat guiding in strong wind for 14 of the 16 hours! Ouch! Clients were up to the task and the bite was great as usual. Dad and 8 yr old son had a good day on Fri and the boy landed his first bass - cast, hooked, fought, and landed - in the wind!! Another victim of the bass bug!!!! He had a tussle too since it was 2 3/4 lbs. I don't count totals much anymore at Clear Lake but we landed 35+. 6-1 was the biggest and our limit was decent 22-6. Dad caught his biggest in the afternoon. Sat found me with a great fellow and fisherman. As we rocked and rolled, around 45 bass found their way into the boat - his two biggest were 4-13 and 5-0. Decent limit of just under 20 lbs.
City: Yuba CityTips: I have been converted to the black/blue jig bite - and I add the #157 purple/smoke Yamamoto grub as a trailer - giving me my favorite tri/color - black, blue, purple! If you arn't using the #213 Yamamoto Kreature bait - you should be, especially as the water is finally starting to get slightly dingy. That has really been a good bait lately, even better than my favorite #301. We just Texas rig it - nothing fancy. The green pumpkin Berkley Power worms continue to very good also, especially as the sun get higher in the sky. Both out trips were spend from Anderson Island south - where it is real windy!!!!! Where we can get away with it, many of our quality bass have been in the 20-28 foot depth - even in the wind. However, the 6-1 was in 6 to 7 feet of water in weeds at 11 am. She dined on a 10" Power worm!

Report: Made it out early today to very windy conditions. Found some wind relief, fished some tulies and then moved to rocky shorelines Didn't catch anything on the spook, threw the brown and purple jig with twin tail grub trailer and started getting them. Also caught a few on senkos and drop shot MMIII. Overall it was a little slow for me Caught between 15 to 20 but nothing more than 3lbs. Tried for a night bite last night. Not much action before dark. Right before total darkness, nailed 7 or 8 within 10 mins on the same jig, and then nothing else Was out of the water by 1130. Caught these by the county park.

Water Temp: 75-80
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Is there a better place to fish for Black bass than Clear Lake? I don't think so! Buddy Forrest my son Brandon and myself went out for 3 days of slammin the bucket mouths, we got 24 on Fri 7/20 with a 5.9 on sweeeeeeeat beaver bubba shotin and a 5.3 10 minutes later on sweeeeat beaver shakey head with lots of 1.5 to 3.5 mixed in, 21 lbs on Fri. Sat went up to Shag rock and got 24 little guys 1.5 to 2.5 drop shot watermellon zoom tricks and yamamoto rootbeer hula's on shakey head, 12 lbs on Sat:(, Sunday we tried goosehead and landed 7 and than off to new water we have never fished before in the cove just south of Kanacti and got 23 more to 3.14, 14 lbs on Sat.
City: San JoseTips: Find deep rock, deep tullies lines, deep weeds. On the deep rock just toss up your offering to the bank and drag her back until you get one:)Bubba shot those weeds & tullies with 15 lb test
with sweet beavers or Robo creatures in watermellon any flake during bright hrs and black blue during darker hrs.Humble time, I can not buy a top water fish:( Help!!!!!! -
Water Temp: 78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Another day for the weather man. 6 to 10 mph winds? Double or triple that again? Hit the water with Moto Mike at about 11 am. Mike Nailed a nice keeper 3lbs on brown cooch's wadda jig.Ran to west side to escape wind and found lots of goo and not much water depth around tullies. Still caught 2 nice fish on buzz bait. Moto mike flipped a 6lb'er. Dollar fish for the day. Threw in right after me to same spot? Left west side ran to narrow and many deep docks. Hard work in front with the 3 footers and wind. Still caught lots of 3+ pounders. We left early around 5 pm when our hunger took control. Nice place to eat next to limit out tackle. Best mushroom burgers in Calif. Mike and I had 19 or 20 lbs for a short day in the wind. Still are great place to spend the day.
City: orangevaleTips: Go to heavy jigs and weights in the wind. You don't catch as many but 20 fish in 5 or 6 hours still is nice considering the weather. I go to limit out tackle and look at the lake. If the wind is blowing there I proceed to Lakeport or Lucerne and launch. Saves the day. Red Budd is nice but the ride in the waves can be a long one even in a 21 foot triton.

Water Temp: 74
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: well, I tell you what, This is worth the 2 1/2 hr drive any day of the week. This is a real Bass fishery, not a wannabe. Took my 11 year old boy anda rrived early out of Redbud but found too strong of a North wind in my favorite top water spot where I slammed them last year so I had to find the calmest water and that was Buckingham. I quickly nailed a 4.5 on the spook and thought the game was on. Only managed a couple more so I took off to brand new water down south out of the wind, any small little cove I could find to escape the 3 ft rollers and nailed 3 more on the spook including a 5.4. Once sun was up I just targeted the shady docks with my drop shot rig and I tell you what, I have never caught this many 4 lbrs in my life and many 3's. We weighed our first few to make sure they were 4's and sure enough the first 5 were all over 4. It was amazing. took lunch break at 1:00 and started up again in the same spots and you got it, the replenished with a new stock of 3's and 4's. Ended the day around 5:00 looking for shade with top water and the spook came alive with a huge 6.6 that fooled me, I was sure it went 7 but tripled checked the xtool only a 6.6. She was wide but had that post spawn skinny thing going(see photo). ended with 40+ fish for the day best five went just under 26. What a blast!
