Report: I fished in a bass tournament Saturday June,18 on Clear Lake. I was a non boater. My partner didn't have a big motor and we launched out of County Park. We fished around the octogon docks and curinthein bay. I threw a buzzbait for about a half an hour didn't get touched. Then I picked up my dropshot and got three right off the bat. It took me to get five before my partner picked up his dropshot. My partner took second with 12.75 I took fifth with 10.45 it took 15.09 to win it.
    City: Ukiah,Ca

Tips: Try topwater in the morning around tulis if that dosen't work pick up your dropshot and don't put it down all day.

Report: fished as non boater cllub tournament. flipped 31/2 poounder in scattered tullies around noon.caught a few dinks partner blanked.second day I blanked partner caught 4 on salt pepper hulla grubs. guess which tackle bag I decided to leave at home.It was daves only hula grub? A couple of guys did real well on watermellon baby brush hogs split shot 15 foot range.Slow rolling 1 oz spinnerbait between deep water docks worked for another guy.Biggest bass for club was 7+ black bass.
    City: orangevale

Tips: fish are confused about high water and weird weather. Slow down if you can in the wind and waves.Bed fish still happening if you can get out of the wind. Water very high and clear. fish in kelsey creek are everywhere but I couldn't get them to bite anything. Live bait? Look in the shadows in afternoon. Must be hundreds of keeper bass in there.

Report: Fished the AC Pro-am. Prefished on Thursday and found a decent bite on jigs. Nothing big about 4 lds tops. Friday the front blew through and we had post frontal and tournament pressure on Friday-Sunday. Bite got very tough, especially for me. I did have some success on smaller fish on the offshore rockpiles in the South arm of the lake with a dropshot. Nothing great but some post-spawn fish were showing up. I was not able to fish those areas the way i wanted with the weather but there should be a few decent fish in those areas.
    City: SoCal

Tips: We need to quit announcing tournament dates beforehand so the fish will not know when to quit biting.

Report: This was "Clear Lake" week for me with trips on Tues and Wed, Fri night and Sat. My off-day, Thurs, was a guide trip to Pardee!! Yes, I'm tired today!! Generally the fishing was good for all the trips with an average catch of 18 bass per trip. I had a variety of clients - some that I had to teach to cast along with tournament folks. Tues and Wed included a lot of small bass, bluegill, and crappie bites. How do I know? - we caught some!! Fri night and Sat those fish disappeared and everything we caught was quality. Yesterday was amazing - a husband and wife team and I caught 25 bass that averaged 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 lbs - only 2 bass about 12 inches and no dink bites. It is amazing to watch the lake change from day to day. We caught many bass in the 3 to 5 pound range all week, all on soft plastics including Sweet Beavers, Senkos, and Power/brush hogs. The Berkley Power worms caught their share. Most of our bass were caught no deeper than 10 feet - in tules with rock nearby. The weather was decent all week except for Friday - the wind howled all night and I don't know why since there was a high pressure system in place. We just couldn't fish areas I wanted to. Our five fish limits went from 12 to 17 pounds. While we wern't necessarily targeting huge bass, I was surprised we didn't catch bass large than 5 lbs. There seems to be a lot of bass still to spawn in the south end. Several of our larger bass had not spawned yet.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Green pumpkin and watermelon again were our best colors. The "dirty Sanchez" color (whatever that is) Sweet Beaver was the bass' favorite. Make sure you use a large hook for that bait. I am using the Gami EWG off-set hook - 3/0, Texas rigged. There are bass in front of the tule rows and bass in the back of them - especially if there is a wall of some kind. The bass love to spawn next to a wall because of the hard bottom and the warmth the wall provides in sunlight. The tules cut down the water movement next to the wall. Friday night was very hard on me as a guide. Clear Lake sometimes just won't let me be the guide I want to be because of weather conditions, mostly wind. We had a good trip but it would have been better if I could have fished them in some of the quality areas I like. That is one of the differences between guides and tournament fishermen. It's a level playing field for tournament folks - the weather is the same for all. For guides who are trying to teach and help people who may not be experienced catching bass - and you guide them once or occasionally - Clear Lake can be unforgiving. I alway hope that Clear Lake will be a win-win situation most of the time - the fishing is good and the wind becomes a breeze!!

Report: The fishing is really good right now. I would bring Some Helicopter lures a few banjo minnows and a handful of flying lures in Junebug and have at it. The fish are all over. Good Luck

Tips: Heard Senkos, luckycraft pointers and jigs also might catch a fish as well. I would stick to the "seen on tv" lures personally.

Report: Amazing - saw only one bass boat on the lake today. So what if it rained ALL DAY!! After our great day at Pardee on Monday, I took my Minnesota client to dreary Clear Lake today - a lake he has always wanted to fish. The scenery was dreary but the fishing wasn't! We had bites all day - many from small bass however. I even caught a big bluegill! We caught 25 bass with about 5 in the 11-12 inch size. The rest were good quality with his largest at 4-10 and mine at 6 1/2. Thankfully, he caught most of the quality bass and we put together an 18 lb limit. All of our fish were caught on plastics - 4 to 6 inch worms, brush hogs, and the Sweet Beavers he picked up at Limit Out Tackle. I borrowed one of his baits since they were working well, and my first bass on a beaver was the 6 1/2. Hmmmm. We fished the Oaks arm and Konocti Bay, looking for rock/tule combination areas. In spite of the rain, it was still fairly warm and most of our bass were very shallow - 3 to 10 feet. Green pumpkin seemed to be the color of choice. We were Texas rigging most of the plastics. I think he will have fond memories of Clear Lake when his lakes are all frozen next winter, har!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Several areas had green slime on the rocks and it seems that some weeds are beginning to form. It will be interesting to see if the lake clears some this summer, or, when we finally get some heat, if it will turn dingy as last summer. That led to some fantastic fishing in the dog days of summer!

Report: I took a client out yesterday (Sat) for a teach the lake trip - his first time to Clear Lake. I told him how "quiet" the lake would be - I think we had it to ourselves except for the other 250 bass boats that came from somewhere!!! Anyway, we did ok fighting the weather and trying to stay out of the tournament folks way. We fished from Rattlesnake Island to the narrows, and did manage to boat 23 bass and he ended the trip with his biggest at 3.1 lbs. We had a limit of about 12 1/4 lbs, working for bites more than big fish. We did a lot of split-shotting with Berkley pulse worms and small brush hogs. We couldn't get anything on reaction baits and didn't throw swimbaits. We found most of our bass in schools, as long as there was rock nearby. We missed a few on Senkos - the wind made it difficult.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Because of the pressure and cold front, many bass had moved off the tules and out to 8 or so feet of water. While we were trying to catch fish near the tules, many bites came from right under the boat. With a cold front, don't hesitate to work your bait out into deeper water. Some areas of underwater brush held a lot of fish for us.

Report: Larry, the Future Pro Tour had their event there Saturday, 200 teams. My son and I fished Rattlesnake area (with several others) and stunk it up. We cought a fair amount of fish but all small. I had a particularly bad day, lost a couple on a lucky craft early, no reason I could tell and then another on a Senko about 4# and we never really recovered. Worst performance I remember in my limited experience. Two keepers, is all we managed. 22.7 won the event and 11.88 was big fish (bed fish). Did not get a chance to prefish but Vince mentioned the seminar Friday was helpful to several anglers.

Report: Well the entire trip did not go as planned, but was still great! Started off launching at lucerne and working the tules with swimbaits.no luck. ran across the lake and worked the tule mile area-no luck.(lots of shad getting chased and eaten) I was convienced that this time of year was big bait-big fish.no go.Hooked up with my partner for an evening run on rattlesnake island(and surrounding areas)with a spinnerbait assult-4 hours no fish-ouch.Friday a.m.-rattle snake assult with 5 inche senkos(any color)and found the promised land! fish, fish, and more fish!no real big size, but landed numbers! Home for lunch and the standard afternoon nap, and then off for the evening bite.More of the same, fun times! Around 5p.m. the front came through. Rain, wind, and thunder skrikes around the lake! time to get off the lake. saturday morning-light rain, and 12-15 degrees cooler than friday.no worries, kept with the same pattern, and still did fairly well. Checked the future pro results for the day , and we would of come in about 25th place for the day.I can live with that. Average fish 3-3.25 lbs- big fish 4.5 lbs. no real size, but had fun!

Tips: For my experience-5 inch weightless senkos rigged texas style was the only way to go.for me,nothing else worked.Have fun.Had to come home a day early-family issues.

Report: This week we finally got a warming trend with a couple of days of stable weather. I saw fish on beds these past couple of days and fish starting to move up and hold around the tules and docks. I had customers out this week that caught a 10.2 lber, a 8 1/2 a 7 1/2 and several in the three to four pound class. This Saturday we have the future pro tour going out of the Konocti Resort, there will probably be over a 150 boats in that Tournament so the lake will be a little busy. There is a small front expected to move through this weekend. If it's not to cold or windy, I think these fish will still hold and bed up. We have a full moon the 24th and this has been a DELAYED, spring and the fish need to spawn bad.
Fish this week were caught on lucky craft lv 500's and small swim baits. The bigger swim baits have not seemed to work as well as the smaller ones. The 10 lber this week came off of a bed, the customer had a ball trying to get her to go.
    City: Nice

Tips: Work your spawning areas, work outside as well as look inside. Throw the five inch mission fish in the tules and work the smaller River to Sea's on the outer edges of the tules. Use 20 lb test on your swimbaits and a rod with some backbone to it. I use a 7ft rod made by Phoneix and also a 7 ft Kistler rod. If your into bed fishing, now is the time to start looking. Feel free to e mail me for any additional info needed. (all of my customers fish this past week were all caught in the upper end of the lake)

    Water Temp: ?????

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished with my 11 yr old son and a couple of good friends Saturday, and found the fishing tough to say the least. We launched out of County Park and headed to the mouth of Kelsey Creek for a little swimbait/spinnerbait action...NOT! My son threw a chartruse blade and I threw a hitch swimbait and we got skunked for the first two hours. He changed to a white blade and caught a 1 1/2 lber and that was it. We moved to Horseshoe to see how our friends were doing and found they were having as tough a time at it as we were. The wind pushed us out of there in a hurry so we decided to head north to Nice/Lucerne and fish some docks which turned out to be a little better. Had to pick up the ol' dropshot rod and started to find a few fish on a 6 " Roboworm in softshell craw but nothing that made you want to call Bill Dance to schedule a guest apperance over. We then headed to Lakeport (had to burn at least a 1/2 tank of gas to ensure
Exxon/Mobile makes that 2.8 billion profit this quarter) for some good ol' tule fishing. Again, caught some, but nothing big (1-3 lbs)on dropshot worms in craw and purple. My boy lost a 3 lber at the boat on a worm and I tripped over his bottom lip for the next 1/2 hour but he pulled it together and had a good time. Ended up at Trailer Park slough and was amazed at what I found. The water was so brown it looked like Yoohoo, and it was sooooo plugged with shad that my depthfinder wouldn't show me the bottom, it was just black from top to bottom. I thought it was curious that there was a Stratos owners tourney going on and I was the only boat in Trailer Park at noon?!?!?!?!?
Now I see why. I know there are big fish there this time of year but with food so readily available, why would they eat a piece of plastic? We had a friendly competition going with my two buddies, and we spanked them (they only had two fish all day) but it was a tough bite for mid- April. Saw some big hens warming their eggs under docks so bedding is about to get serious. Can't wait for that!
    City: Ukiah

Tips: Heard there was a 41 lb limit brought in on Saturday...hats off to them. We couldn't get it going until we picked up the dropshot rig. They seemed to be in front of the tules (see Larry Hemphill's posting for splitshot report)and off the front of the docks but I know we just didn't do something right. Had fun with my son though and that, my friends, is what it is all about.
    Good luck!!!
