Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Hit the water just after safe light and headed for tule point area. started throwing swimbaits with my partner just outside of the reeds. Ten minutes later bam!! partner hooks a monster of a fish. What a fight! After getting in the boat she hit the scale at 7.23lbs. After putting her back and calm down a bit I flipped a sweet beaver in a nice pocket and out came a huge hen which hit the 4lbs range. Moved around more and picked up a couple others off jigs and ripping. After eating a snack around ten o'clock, patner picked up the swimbait again and luck struck him twice in a day. After struggling with her to get out of the grass and tules. she was a knockout to look at. She went 8.53lbs.. Caught some others and called it a day.
City: Nice, CA.Tips: The reaction bite was on, didn't seem to matter what kind of plastic either. Just fish hard and hold on.

Report: I did a real "teach the lake" trip yesterday with two great guys - eager to learn about structure. We spend the first half of the trip learning structure areas and fishing a little. We started at 10 am hoping for a good afternoon bite. It didn't warm up as predicted and an afternoon wind came up which later brought in some fog. Weird! We did get into a good rip bite - they had never fished Staycee 90's before! Caught lots of bass but none over 2 pounds. The chartreuse shad was again the best color. We returned to a rockpile that I said might produce a good fish before dark and the Weapon jig came through again with a 4 lb 11 oz bass. I think these guys will not be afraid to venture off-shore to find quality bass now! Wonderful day except for the wind.
City: Yuba CityTips: The bait is still moving a lot. Some areas that had bait a few days ago were void of bait yesterday - maybe because of the amazing weather Monday. I was able to drop-shot a few on shad color 4 inch Senkos. They hit those hard! The jig was brown/orange. As amazing as it is to me, I broke off another big bass - this time on a crankbait (purple haze) near Henderson Point. I think I need to change my crankbait line more often - it was 12 lb test! My drag was probably a little too tight. Who knows?!!

Report: My buddy george and fished lucern area today and we wacked them. We threw baby brushhogs(junebug) color and caught close to 40 fish. We fished old piers and docks made out of wood in water from 4-10 feet of H20. We also threw deadringers(junebug) and did well. We swam the lures very slow on the bottom and worked it too. Tulies didnt pruduce much for us. Try spinner baits and ripbaits didnt do didly.
City: daly cityTips: Swim your plastic on the bottom very slowly (jigs,or anything that has a curly tail. GOO LUCK OUT THERE!

Report: First time on Clear Lake. Got a late start out of Konocti Harbor. Fished jerk and spinner bait from Shag Rock west. No takers. Put on deep diving crank and started getting bit. Seven fish between my brother and I. Top five went 10 lbs, largest 3 lbs. Dark skies and rain all day. Got blown off on Monday. Most fish 15 to 30 feet from bank.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: WOW! Clear Lake was almost still today. Very little wind, sunshine, and lots of good fishin'. We caught over 75 crappie in less than two hours by Kono Tayee Pier and probably caught 50 bass on swim baits and roboworms the largest being 4 1/2. They were all fat little footballs. I caught a 4 pounder with a crappie jig and 4 lb test with an 5' rod. What a fun fight. These fat bass remind me of Trinity smallmouth. What a day!
Tips: Swim baits seemed to be the ticket today.

Water Temp: 49-51
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Sometimes it is hard to decide between day or night trips. Last night and today I did both and could have easily skipped the night trip. I only caught five last night as the cloud cover I was promised disappeared at dusk and it turned cold and damp - not good night conditions. I quit about 2 am. After a good nights sleep, I started my scouting trip today about 11 am and fished 'til dark - thank goodness. Some of you know I love to fish the last hour of dark and today proved why! I broke off a huge bass on the second hookset, around 5 pm. I was really bummed! About 45 minutes later, I hooked another monster and set ONLY once! So I finally get this one in the boat - after surviving a scary 3/4 wallow out of the water (did I freak? - yes!) - and the jig falls out of her huge mouth. What is a guy to do?! Didn't matter this time - she was gorgeous - at 10 lbs 11 oz! The winner and the loser were both hooked on a 3/8 oz brown/orange Rattlin' Weapon jig with a single tail Yamamoto #180 grub - what else?!!! In between those events, I got into a great rip bite as the sun was setting - I caught 5 and they were all between 2 3/4 and 3 1/4 lbs - and one crappie! I lost the biggest one - drag too tight. Those were fun after catching about 10 to 12 that averaged only 12 inches rippin' near Indian Beach. I drop-shotted several 1 1/2 lb bass using a Berkely june-bug Pulse worm. Finally a good limit, something over 22 pounds. Great drive home!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: I was using the Staycee 90 that is off-white with the chartreuse stripe on the side. It seemed to work fine so I didn't change. The big bass are still deep down south, as both of those big ones and another nice one I missed were 20 to 30 feet deep. I was slowly swimming the jigs - ticking rocks. Shaking them didn't seem to help. And for those of you that are interested, I did not hear a single carp roll last night - the lake was absolutely dead. The other successful night trips in January all had some carp activity, especially around midnight. If you are going to winter night fish, cloudy nights are always better.

Report: Fished Clear Lake the 8th,9th and 10th for the crappie at Shag rock and caught and released over 230 crappie well not just me my brother-in-law and his dad also. we caught most our fish on red/white mini jigs 1/32oz but most any color would have work. Crappie were down around 7-10 feet. The trick to catching the crappie when there was no wind and it was flat dead calm was to shake the rod tip which enduced the bite. Well while we were out there catching crappie I picked up my 1/4oz jig rod and caught atleast 20 small bass nothing over 2 pounds and I also dropshoted roboworms and still caught atleast that many. Saw aguy land a 4 1/2 lb bass on dropshot at Shag Rock. The crappie size were between 1 and 3 1/2 lbs. Like the other report with the guy who broke down. We Stayed at the Lake Place Resort and it was an outstanding resort, They had slips for boats with eletrical hook-ups. It was great to get ready to fish with my batteries all charged up. So if you get up there to Clear Lake check this place out. They cater to the Bass'r.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at Clear Lake Oaks and ran up to Shagg Rock to get in on the hot Crappie action. Fished for about 15 minutes when we decided we didn't want to fight the wind any longer. Then, my starter broke and the motor would not start. In trying to move batteries around and pull-start my 125 I sprained my ankle. It was HORRIBLE. No bights and stranded at Shagg Rock. Partner and I trolled all the way accross to Glenhaven where Al Martin, owner of Lake Place Cottages saved our day. Drove us back to Clearlake Oaks and helped me get my boat on the trailer at his private dock.
City: SacramentoTips: If you are looking for a place to stay on Clear Lake I highly recommend Al at Lake Place (707) 998-3331. His whole operation is set up for bass boats with a private ramp and boat slips. Rates are very reasonable at $60 to $125 a night. He helped a wounded basser in a time of need.

Water Temp: 47-50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished in the WON Bass Vineyard Region tournament on Saturday. We had a total of 39 boats. First place went 27 lbs for 5 fish tossing mainly jigs around the tullys. They took home over $1900. Second place was 22 lbs also throwing jigs (i think). A lot of limits were brought in although may anglers described the conditions as tough. For myself we only had 10.5 lbs using plastics in watermelon/red and green pumpkin. We caught fish from 5' to 10'. Later in the afternoon we picked up a couple of fish on a crankbait around docks in 5' of water. Check out the complete results later this week at www.Wonbass.com under Vinyard region. Next tourny is at Clear Lake so come out and get in on the action. Get all the info at the web site.
City: Rohnert ParkTips: Based on the top finishers, I would have to say stick with the jigs. Anglers were also catching fish on rip baits. We found most of our fish on the areas where the bottom was either rock or gravel.

Report: Can anybody give a crappie report for the last week? I heard the crappie bite was excellent a couple of weeks ago. I just would like to know before I make the three hour trek up north. Thanks in advance.

Water Temp: 47-48.5
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: We fished minnows and artificials. I was surprised to find most of the fish in the 7 to 10ft range. Targeted areas with bubbles maybe that's why. Caught 2 jig fish, 1 crank bait fish and 15 minnow fish in 4 hrs from 10am to 2pm. I had planned on fishing more artificials but the fish were so active with the minnows I didn't have time. I probably only spent 10 min fishing jigs for those 2 fish. Most fish 2-1/2 to 3 lbs. Big fish just under 5 lbs.

Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished Clear Lake for the first time in years. Joined the crowd at Shag Rock fishing for crappies. Most of the crowd was using mini-jigs type lures on a floater (jig was anywhere from 3-6 ft down). Everybody was catching them. We were the exception and tried to fish without a floater on our jigs. Caught a few crappies. We were also fishing for bass on a carolina rig with minnows. Caught 4 bass (largest 2.5 lbs). We then decided to fish with floaters and started catching fish. Besides catching crappies, we caught 6 more keeper bass on mini-jigs (largest - 1.5 lbs). We probably caught 15 undersized bass on the mini-jigs.
City: DixonTips: Use your electronics to find the crappie schools. Use white or chartruese mini-jigs. The bass that we caught on mini-jigs were close to shore in the late afternoon.

Report: Fishing was tough. Fished dropshot, Carolina, jig and spinnerbait. Fish caught on jig and dropshot. Fish next to weedbeds and rocky shore line and docks. We caught fish but... not nearly what I was looking for.
City: ArcataTips: SLOW DOWN CAST OUT AND READ A BOOK IT IS THAT SLOW. The water temp is still cold so the bass are not active yet

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fishing has been very good. I fished today and yesterday between bayliss point and Konocti with very good success on rip baits. In about six hours of fishing total I caught about 40 fish. Nothing over three pounds, but hit some quality schools of fish where they were averaging about 2 1/2 pounds. Also caught seven fish split-shotting, but switched back over to rippin cause the action was faster. I also lost and missed several fish and had one at the boat kick it that was probly close to five.
City: Lower LakeTips: Boat docks and rock-walls are where the fish seemed to be holding. Getting adjecent to rock walls and ripping in about 6-8 feet of water gave me the best success.

Water Temp: 48-50.5
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Like Larry I had to find the sun, almost forgot what it looked like. My dad is visiting for 2 days from South Carolina so off to Clear lake we go . I had heard the Crappie bite is off the hook. After looking at 8-10 other boats at Shag Rock and catching a fe " slabs", I could not do it. So Bass or no bass I had to try. I caught 22 fish the largest 6.11lbs for 15.6, best 5 all ripping. The larger fish came from Jago everything else in the narrows. On the 24th, we slept in till 10 or so and headed north, fished Rockey point, Rodman, and Nice. Got 3 jig fish, my dad got a senko fish and big fish of the day with a little over 4lbs. Tough bite North and NO rip fish since the water is a little muddy.Around 3:30 went back to the bank I had the majority of the reaction bite going on and caught 23 fish from then till dark, nothing over 3lbs but no dinks either, solid 15 inch Clear Lake footballs.
City: CarmichaelTips: I looked at the same bank around 10:30 before going north on Sunday . The water was 48,and no bite. Pulled off to the nearest ledge marked fish and spooned for awhile, nata. When I came back at 3:30 is was 50.5 and off the hook. This window lasted till about half hour before dark, sun had dropped below the mountain and the bite stopped. The water temp at dark had already dropped to 48 again. Rip , what else a Staysbee 90 sp and both the ghost and auora black worked well. Lost a couple nice fish too experimenting with a Loomis 903, doesn't touch the 845, too limber which was a problem on long cast and getting a good hook set. You can have the crappie , looks like fun but not enough pull for me. I can't wait till 55 water temps get here.

Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: My wife wanted to see the sun - so off to Clear Lake we went! What a dismal winter here in Yuba City - fog or rain and that's it!! I fished Tues night for about 6 hours, trying to make up for very little night fishing last winter. I almost had a good night topped by another big bass, but I lost it due to pilot error. Ever forget to re-set your drag after landing a nice bass? You have to change your drag at night a lot because you never quite know how big they are until they get near the boat, especially in the winter. I don't make that mistake very often, but it cost me a big one - lost her after about 30 seconds. I did land 7 bass from 2 1/2 lbs to 4 lbs 3 oz - a 15-3 limit, all on brush hogs. I had 12 bites, which is good for a winter night. I was fishing both sides of the Oaks arm - in rocky areas next to deep water. The evening was perfect - no wind and some clouds to block the bright moon. The next night I fished for about 2 hours and landed 5 smaller bass up to 2 1/4 lbs - again, loosing a fairly good fish. The moon was very bright, maybe causing the bigger fish to back off, or I just wasn't fishing the right time. They don't bite all night in the winter. There was a little bit of carp activity the first night and none the second night. I always find that interesting!!
City: Yuba CityTips: Both nights showed me that moving around in the winter is important. If I got one bite in an area, I usually got more than one. Many normally good summer and fall night spots just don't hold fish in the winter. As I said on the last post, a ledge or steep drop is almost a requirement for catching winter bass, certainly in the south end. I found 46 degree water at Shag Rock (caught only 1 bass there) and 49 degree water in some of the south areas, where most of my bites were. Both evenings I fished the last 30 minutes of light - normally my favorite time. Not a bite!!

Report: It is wide open saw at least 100 landed and we caught 30 ourselves with a half hearted effort. Seeing that I had to play deck hand to my 6 and 8 y/o boys who want this worm or that color jig or wanted to take a break or want to have some more hot chocolate and the kicker CAN WE PLAY GAME BOY? Kept my composure most of the time trying to remember that I am build wonderful memories with these little monsters j/k. Use minnows for 3 black bass to 3 lbs. Salt and peper jigs with a tinge of tranluscent blue seemed to work best and biggest crappie although pretty steady action on most colored jigs charchruse, red and white, etc. We fished around shag rock, but also heard of a great bite at Konocti bay. If you see a bunch of boats on top of each other fishing very cordially you have found the spot.
Fire Jon
City: San BrunoTips: bring gps if you are familar with the lake am fog is tough. watch your meter of the crappie and fish slow.
