Report: Devil Mountain Bass club event at McClure on Sat. There were two other tournaments at McClure and the Sourth ramp was PACKED! We launched from the North ramp which we pretty much had to ourselves. Anyway it was a tough bite from some but two of us managed to catch almost two limits. We did a paper tournament this time out since there is a15" limit on the lake. Winner had a bag of almost 10 lbs and second place was just half a pound behind at 9.3 lbs for 5 fish. My newbe partner (first time bass fishing from a bass boat) stuck two huge rainbows 7lbs and 5 lbs on a DARTHEAD of all things. It was pretty funny watching him fight the fish but he did a good job and landed both fish! Weather was fantasic and even with the big tournament one the lake we saw very few boats and were not crowded at all. Water is down 60 ft from full and you could see about 5 ft down. We found our fish on the main lake off a major point from 25-40 feet. Later in the day I ran to a deep flat tht was about 45-30 feet in depth with some old wood at the bottom. Managed to cull 3 of my fish in that spot. Most bites were a light tab or the line would go slack. Just realy up and set the hook. Fish are eating but the bite is light. Had three or four bites where the fish would pick up the tail of my worm and swim off. When I set the hook, I got back the front half of the worm only.
    City: Walnut Creek

Tips: We had the most succes with football head jigs with hula grubs, t rigged worms and brown rubber skirted jigs with a grub trailer. Fish deep and slow. Try cinnimon, brown and orange and green weenies. Darthead for the big rainbows!

Report: Tough finding fish...they've definitely gone deeper..but late in the afternoon, caught 20 bass, 2-3 pounds drop shotting at the corner of the dam where the concrete ridge goes into the water..in about 28-30 feet. Someone submerged something, since there's a rope, and there were fish all around it on my finder. Pretty much shad color for any plastics, and I caught one on a rip bait (Shad Color)....
    City: Merced

Tips: Shad color worms for drop shotting, and look on points and ridges with deep water nearby...also dress for cold weather since it was 45 degrees when I left with wind...

Report: Started out in the back of Cottonwood Creek at 0630. Caught a few on topwater early on. At about 0830 the water started boiling. The bass were pushing shad to the surface and gorging on them. We caught quite a few smaller fish using smoke colored soft plastics, rattle traps, and other shad imitations. Moved up to the back of Piney Creek and caught a few on worms and jigs. Moved down to the main lake and fished the islands. Found nice fish in the clearer water near the mainlake islands. Afer 1530 caught all fish on 6" smoke colored worms on a 1/8 oz. darthead. Called it a day at about 1730 and ended up w/ about 25 or 30 fish between me and my team partner. Mostly smaller fish but caught a few 2 and 3 pounders.

Tips: Check out the new fishing baits and tackle at the Snelling 76 station.

The big fish came in the back of a cove with a little water running in on a split shot worm brown color up river in the cooler water(6.72 lbs.). there were alot of fish caught on spider grubs also. The bite seemed to shut down after 10:00 A.M. so get out there early and try rippin. Some of the better fish were caught on darthead worms in steep rocky areas 20 -30 ft.

Report: Found fish friday afternoon in narrows off steep rock walls.Caught 2 drop shot 3 hula grubs.Sat day of tournament worked hard to find keepers. We caught 12 fish 2 keepers?Winning team went up river to cooler water and hammered out first and third plaace finish. Dart head worms in brown colors . Bridge held some nice keepers also.
    City: orangevale

Tips: Lake is full and fish are suspended and scattered. Throw super spook real early and hang on. I lost nice spook when my snap opened on about a 3 lber. Put your lure on in daylite.I'd go up river or narrows. Fish are shallow out to 40 feet? Wiggle wart worked for one guy who likes to crank.

Report: Started out in the lower end and missed some fish on a fluke. I had a 3lber blow up on topwater. Went up and fished some cuts before you get to horseshoe. It took a 6" purple ghost to get them in the boat. All of them were about 13-15" and one had a crawdad stuck in its throat. All of them were caught in about 2-10' of water.
    City: Delhi

Tips: Harder clay banks with some small rock. They were not in the grass. They would hit the fluke and take off, not a committed strike. Some were in the mudline or just outside of it. The crawdad was green back and claws with a rusty brown bottom, hopefully the colors help.
