Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: WOW great topwater action in the morning, but once the sun was up by 9:00 to 9:30 out action was done. I forced the topwater bite to stay with out success and we got off the water by 10:30.

Fun action on fish up to 2 lbs, all largemouth.
the wife had a good fish on but lost it so we never saw if it was a Largemouth or a smallie.

    Water Temp: 74

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I contrast to what the previous report said, I found the water visability to be around 20 feet! I visited the lake for three hours - 5:45 to 8:45 am, just throwing topwater! The Chug Bug was my lure of choice and it nailed a 1 3/4 lb largemouth right away. After missing a nice one, I saw my bug disappear in a shadow area and I had a nice one I thought. She jumped once and I thought smallie! About 30 seconds later she cleared the water by three feet - maybe the biggest jump I have ever seen from a bass. I also say - "they are lean and mean" after the spawn. I had to loosen my drag twice and finally netted a 3 pounder (on photo page). These bass need "accuracy training"!! I had 4 more blowups - two from big bass, and they totally missed the lure. Amazing. The water clarity defies imagination - stay in shadows as long as you can.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I didn't do any other type of fishing - just tried to make the topwater happen. If I could have gotten one or two of the ones I missed, it could have been a pretty good trip! I tried a Sammy quite a bit also - no takers!

    Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished from 6:30 to 12:30 and only caught a few fish. Actually the backseater did. Threw topwater, ripbaits, Senkos and crankbaits. But the only thing that produced was the dropshot. Infact it was a shallow bite with a cast and not a vertical retrieve. Took three fish, a 5.2, 4.6 AND A RESPECTABLE 0.9 smallmouth. The other two were spawning largemouth (still had eggs and bruised tails). Caught those fish at 11:00.
    City: Oakdale

Tips: Good luck and try the topwater early on the points of the main lake, didn't think of that till later. Duh.

    Water Temp: 68

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: We took (1) 3lb 2oz smallie early in the day on a small floating shad in about 1 ft of water. Had just cast to shore and had a fouled reel. Just when I cleared the foul, bam he sucked that puppy down. After that, not 1 bite. We were on the water from safe light until 2pm. Biggest problem I think was the water, it was ultra clear with visibility at aroung 10+ feet.

    Water Temp: 66-68

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I guided a guy and gal yesterday, helping them to learn more about bass techniques and more about Pardee. His photo is on the photo page with his first Pardee bass - a 4 lb 1 oz smallie on a Yamamoto topwater lure! I'm glad he got that early because the rest of the day was very slow. We caught 3 small largemouth and missed a few others. We did see two big female largemouth on nests with no males around. Weird! We probably could have gotten one of them to bite but it would have taken too long. My clients got to see what the lake has to offer! The weather pattern was strange - usually a cold front moves in during the afternoon, but yesterday it moved in about 9 am and really shut down the bite. Lots of wind.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We could have probably done better in the morning but they were a little late and needed a lot of casting instruction and help with working lures. But a 4 lb smallie makes the day - especially on topwater!! Small Robo worms got some bites for us but nothing else would. I threw jigs a lot to try to get a good fish to bite. Didn't happen.

Report: I had a disappointing trip today with a client. Lots of bass boats - I wonder why? Very nice weather and sight fishing was possible and we caught a nice smallie doing that. We could have caught more doing that, but showing him the lake was the mission. All the others we caught were largemouth but nothing bigger than 2 1/2 lbs. Saw a few nests, but not many. Most only had the male left.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We drop-shotted and split-shotted Robo worms and Basstrix flashtrix minnows. No jig bites.

Report: On the water about 8:30 fished main body points with jerk baits, cranks, blades forgot the swimbait, jig and drop shot. Finally around 1 pm while drop shotting i hooked a 5.04 Smallie and then about an hour after that a 2.5 black on a darterhead and that was it for the day. Sunny and warm. Spoke with a two other boats and they said that they did not get a single bite all day.

    Water Temp: 50-51

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Went out and tried to find the big ones. Fishing was tough, water is still very cold. tried to locate them using jerk bait, crank, slow rolling spinnerbait, nothing. So I slowed downed and tried drop shot and jig off deep points. Did mark some in the 20-30 ft range. Tried both light(morning dawn) & dark(brown) worms because water was so clear. Found some awesome dropoffs but was bewildered to see no fish holding on them. Finally came across a point in the creek arm and smelled that fish smell in the air. Instantly hooked one on the deep crank bait but turned out to be a big ol' trout about 20" or so. Horrible fight then spazed out once I landed it. Dang thang bleed all over the place like a stuck pig. Geez, I don't know whats worse, a skunked day or a bass fisherman catching a trout on a bass plug?!? Have fun, wait till the water warms up to try this place because it is dead slow

    Water Temp: 45-51

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I made my first scouting trip today and hoped for some sun since the latest front was clearing out. No luck - cold fog in the morning - glimpses of sun and then heavy cloud cover all day. Not good for a Feb bite. I tried lots of plastics, jigs, and spoons with only two bites. I did as much looking as I did fishing since the lake is down about 20 feet. Finally, about 4 pm in the river arm, while dragging a morning dawn 4" Robo worm, my line got heavy followed by a big jerk as she bucked her head. My line got very heavy and within 5 seconds I lost her. Wow! The sun cam out about 5 pm so I decided to try one or two more spots in the main body. I threw a jig to one of the submerged islands and got nailed in about 20 feet of water. A nice smallie at 4 lbs 2 oz was a beautiful sight in my net (photo on photo page). I wish she was over 5 but still, a great end to a tough day. She hit a 3/8 oz brown/orange Rodstrainer jig with a double tail #180 Yamamoto 5" grub. My drive home was definately more enjoyable thanks to her!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I think I have said this before but when the bite is tough or I am fishing for smallies, rather than go to a 4 in grub trailer, I still use a 5" grub but I bite some of the grub body off. This way I still get the good tail action in a more compact bait. If the water is very clear, I will use a double tail. Most of the time I use a single tail. The big one I lost was in 30 feet of water and the the other bites were deep also. Incoming water at the end of the narrows was 44-46 degrees. I guess fishing was generally slow for everyone since I didn't see many folks after 3 pm. One bass boat landed 2 trout and another one did have 4 bass by dark. I've heard about rain dances and we need rain - but the next time I go to Pardee I may do a sun dance!!

    Water Temp: 70

Report: I guided a nice fellow yesterday at Pardee whois getting back into fishing after a few years off. He wanted to learn the lake better and the learning was good but the fishing was not - in fact, very slow. I really was surprised since it was a mostly cloudy day. Bass fishing, however, is full of surprises! We caught 5 largemouth and the biggest wasn't even 2 lbs - wow! We saw suspended bass everywhere and I suspect the fish I saw on the meter, laying on the bottom, were probably catfish. Drop-shotting and split-shotting worms caught our 5 bass. I threw topwater forever - not a sniff!! Only 2 other bass boats on the lake and one of the guys in one of the boats said they struggled too. So, there is always next time - before Oct 29 when the lake closes for the winter!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Sorry - fresh out of tips! Maybe some cooler weather will get the fish most active for topwater or ripbaits. I plan to go back for most punishment before they close!!!

Report: In the middle of the heat wave, only fished in the morning. Caught small bass on 5 inch Yamamoto hula grubs in watermelon/red flake color. Depth was 25 to 30 feet. Looked for isolated structure in the southeast end and just fished that. Ramp kind of sucks though, not a steep incline which makes it hard to launch/retrieve solo. It's a two step process but that won't stop me from going there again!
