Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 76
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I ished Amador twice this past week with my good riend Rick Tietz - in his boat - since I am boatless until my new Ranger 520 is ready next week. I was going to post about our trip last Wed, but had no time. We did airly well, landing eight to 6 1/4 lbs. The jig bite was good at night - we started at 11 pm. We didn't do as well as some o the tournament olks did the previous Sat night, and it wasn't my ault, 'cause I was in the boat o the guy who inished ourth!!!! He said it was amazing how the night bite slowed each night as we got away rom the ull moon. The ish started eeding more during the day. That was most evident when we ished last night, starting about 7 pm. Small bass were working shad and big bass were working small bass! They were not interested in anything we threw at them.! We missed about our beore dark and ound little or no activity ater dark. Rick landed one about 2 3/4 lbs on an 11 inch worm. We missed several and then quit about 1 am or a nap. By the way, no jig bite at all, and they had been hot the previous trip! Though Rick said ishing had been better the night beore, it was DEAD last night. We even thought about not bothering about the morning bite. Glad we didn't get past the thought process!!! We were on the lake again at 5 am - I was throwing 10" black Power Worms, and Rick was using some ugly 11" black worm. About 6:02 am he grunts on the hookset and we soon have a 9-2 in the boat rom a lat near Big Bay. We were only going to ish awhile longer, so I suggested we try a point in the main body. The sun was already on the water and I thought my chance or a big 'un might be over. But the Power Worm didn't let me down - elt a SLIGHT tick-tick - bluegill-like hit, but set anyway. No bluegill - just an 8-9 largemouth - WOW! That was about 6:55 am. We started dragging our worms in 25-30 eet o water near the point, and at 7:10 Rick sets - and SNAPS his lippin' stik - AT THE REEL. He had about 4 inches o rod let. What a sight - he's reeling like mad - holding just a reel, as his lippin' stik disappears under the water. I tried not to laugh - but it really looked unny!!! We had a happy ending as I netted a shortened lippin' stick with a 9 lb 11 oz toad trying to eat the tip o the rod! What an hour - three bites in the boat or around 27 1/2 lbs. Is Amador back???
City: Yuba CityTips: As I have said many time on my posts, timing is everything. When ishing or big bass, you simply have to try to igure out when they might eed, and oer them a healthy meal (lure)! At Clear Lake, Amador, and the delta, the 10" Berkley Power Worm is a proven winner. Several colors work good, but black is basic - day and night!!!! Obviously, other black worms work too. We were working the worms ultra slow - deadsticking much o the time. We also use Smelly Jelly (crawish) smeared all over the baits. We love to ish lats (i you can ind them without weeds) in about 20-30 eet o water near walls or points. Those are prime summer and all eeding areas at Amador. Try to ine the hard, or rocky bottoms - big bass love those areas.

Calero Reservoir

Water Temp: 76
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Started around 5:30 working the main lake wall from the submerged island with a 5" roboworm. Nothing til I got to the horseshoe and started cranking. Threw a shad wiggle wart and hit 2 fish that both went under a pound. Went over to the cherry cove and hit a nice 2lb fish cranking. By now it is getting close to 7:30 and I started throwing a splash-it. Picked up 3 fish all around 2lbs in the back of the main cove around the weeds. All of the fish I hit today came in the 5-10 ft range. Will get back into fishing Calero more, it has been a good 3 months. Good luck out there.
City: San JoseTips: Cranking always does well for me, same with the top water. Oh ya, hit a fish on a spook too. Only went about a 1 1/2.

Report: Fished Dissapointment/Whites area Fri 8-10-01. On the water by 5:30am throwing buzzbaits. I threw a chart/wht, while my buddy threw an all white buzzer. I had 5 blowups and landed 4 ish, largest going 3lbs. My buddy never had a hit. Buzz bite quit about 7:30am and we started throwin blades. Landed a ew more small keepers and switched to lippin. The lippin bite sucked. We got a bunch o 8"-12" ish. So I decided to throw a 4" watermelon Mad Man Craw. I hadn't caught a ish on one yet so I tried. The 2nd pitch I made my line starts swimming out to deep water, I set the hook and gaot him, 6lber. I think I ound a new bait to lip, although that was the only ish on it. best ive went about 16lbs

Report: What a day on the River! Partner and I started out slow with no topwater takers around Franks. No ish in the boat by 8:30a. Switched to lippin jigs and plastics and stuck a ew ish and dumped a 7+ on a jig. Started ollowing the Low tide down Old River. Pulled into a drainage area and whacked'em good on white speed traps. They were chasing shad so i decided to throw the Z-spook again. Wham! 8# striper! Then we stuck a ew more largemouths on topwater and traps. We stayed in this one area thru the last o the outgoing and beggining o the incoming tide. Caught 5 ish on consective cast two times! We caught 35 ish in this area but still no real quality ish. Then ran up middle river and started lippin tules on incoming water. Stuck some nice ish and started putting some weight in the boat, including a 5#. Ran to Dissappointment/Whites area and continued lipping tules. Stuck some more quality ish including a 4.5#. Ran back towards Franks and stuck another 5# on tules. We called it quits at 3pm and had boated around 60 ish!! I've had some 30-40 ish days beore but this was the best bite I've ever had on the Delta. Best 7 Went around 23#.
City: DanvilleTips: The #'s came on Speed traps, Rat'l Traps & spooks. The quality ish were all on jigs in plastics lipped tight to tules or oshore stucture.
