Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Invited my Brother in law and his Brother in law up for a day at Clear Lake and one at CFW. The fishing (minnows) was steady with about 20 for us. Smallest about 2.5# Most in the 3-4 range. On the first spot my Brother in law got his personal best 5+ His previous was a 1.5# Oroville monster. His Brother in law had never caught a bass until he got a 3+ at the 3rd spot we fished. Now the pressure was off me as both had caught bass. Well my Brother in law's Brother in law (huh?) grabbed the largest minnow in the live well and said "I'm going to catch a bit one with this" About 2 minutes later he said "I think I have one" When I heard the drag singing I said yup you do. Well after I saw color, I knew he had bested his PB already as she came in at 10.2#
How's that for your first bass trip? A life time fish in just about 2 hours of fishing!
City: RosevilleTips: No brainer, just get some of those great minnows from Jimmy at Clearlake Bait & Tackle, find some rocks in 15-30 feet and hang on!

Report: Left Fresno at 4:30 am, stopped in Turlock for coffee and $100 in gas for the boat, out of Ladds 7am, fished Mandeville, Mildred areas. threw topwater, swimbaits, jerkbaits, 6" senkos in two different colors, 5" senkos in two different colors, texas rigged 6" and 4" paddletail worms in two different colors, each, traps in both red craw and shad colors, blades in chartreus white with, chrome willow leafs, brass willow leafs, chrome colorado blades, brass colorado blades, one chrome willow leaf and brass colorado combination and one brass willow leaf with chrome colorado blade combos, jigs with craw trailers, craw trailers without jig skirts, used fast retrieve, slow retrieve, hopped the lures, drug the lures, soaked the lures, I stared at my tackle boxes full of lures for short periods of time, long periods of time, moved them from one locker to another and even tried a piece of peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a treble hook. off the water by 2pm. Not one, thats right, not one single bite all day. Not for me, my partner or the dude in the gorgeous new Ranger we spoke to. The only saving grace was my partner just got his concealed carry permit, so i felt completely safe from pissed off bank fishermen, illegal aliens and all forms of piracy.
City: fresnoTips: Save your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for yourselves. That didnt work either.

Water Temp: 56
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the day after opening. Fishing was terrible. Trouser trout fishermen posted up on all the main lake points. Couldn't make the casts that would have caught the fish. I fish this lake at least 4 times a month. This is the worst it's been in the last 6 years. Threw everything in the boat at em! Cranks, Jerks, Jigs, swimbaits, dropshot....only bite I got was dropshotting a 6 inch senko. If you're thinking about going out here don't! Stay home until april when the water temp starts to heat up. I did hear people talking about a blue and white Nitro out there on opening day slaying em? Couple guys said they saw him hucking 5 lb spots outta his livewell at the end of the day.....After my experience I think they're full of it. I usually boat at least 10 spots each outing...it's just terrible right now.
City: dublinTips: Stay home until the water temp warms up. If you see a Z8 blue and yellow nitro out there with a 250 on the back watch out! He almost ran me over!

Report: jigs and drop shots off humps and points. moving on to something i read on one of the fishing reports addressing the future pro at clearlake. i fished anglers-choice, BBT, and future pro tour and i can say this all three circuits care about the handling of the fish, and it's a shame that the other two would bad mouth the future pro tour in order to gain another boat or two. the message that should get out is that it's the responsibility of the anglers in the events who bare the blame for those dead fish due to poor fish handling onboard there boats after the catch, and after the weigh in, not going the required distant to release the fish since the live release boat never showed up. And yes thats my name on this report as i don't hind behind my monitor, i stand by my words. happy fishing.
City: sacramentoTips: move often until you find the right point or hump.

Water Temp: 46-49
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Since last Friday's bite was pretty good for us, Mike Sperbeck and I decided to try again! This time lady luck (skill!! - LOL) decided to smile on me! We launched out of Red Bud at 4 pm and found post-front wind - quite bad. We moved up to areas we could hide a bit on the west side, catching 5 from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 lbs before dark. We were using small beavers and Berkley Havoc baits. As I tell all my clients - the bite after dark is dead for an hour or so. NOT so last night - at least for me - about time! I was trying a NetBait plastic thing in blue/black color. I missed a nice hit at first. Then, shortly after, my Flame Green Fireline just got tight. I set on instinct and immediately thought - catfish - all the way to the net. She was big - all 9 lbs 9oz of her. BUT, no whiskers - she was a bass - WOW! My biggest in 2 years. We put her in the livewell in case of a double photo. Five minutes later, the second subject of the photo picked up my bait and she added 6 lbs 10 oz to the photo. I was pretty stoked about 2 bass for over 16 lbs. Reminded me of the old days at Clear Lake. That was it - and we bounced our way back to Red Bud about 11 pm. One loves his Ranger 521 the most during those rides!!
City: Yuba CityTips: All of our bass were around the 20 foot depth - nothing shallow. These big fish can take a bait so soft - rod sensitivity is everything in the winter!! As last trip, we were fishing off-shore broke rock fields as best we could in the wind. One needs to keep their line tighter that normal this time of year. Dead-stick is the structure will allow it. Water needs to get around 53-56 degrees to be the bass a little most active.

Report: Mike Sperbeck and I visited the lake after about a 5 week break. We started out of Red Bud about 4 pm. Beautiful afternoon - almost warm! Hope the bass felt that way too!!! One did! I was fishing a green pumpkin Berkely Havoc bait on my new Loomis NRX 852S (6-12 lb) with 8 lb test. After just a few casts, I thought I felt something strange - not a hint of a bite. She came into the boat about 3 minutes later - all 6 lb 5 oz of her. Clear Lake just being Clear Lake when you least expect it!! Mike caught a few smaller ones and lost a big one. After dark it was slow - we fished several areas in Konocti Bay with hardly a bite. The cloud cover was in the distance but never reach the lake - it was cold! Finally, Mike started throwing a small swimbait and found the key. He had several hits and landed a 6-9 and 6-10 back to back. We caught a few others in the 4 to 5 lb range. We thought we were going to join the early season 30 lb club, but ONLY managed a limit of 29 1/4 lbs. Nearly all of our fish were on off-shore rocky bottoms after dark. Before dark they were more shallow - my 6-5 maybe about 12-14 feet deep. Bass were biting after dark, but, no surprise, just a little pressure before dark. They were all in excellent shape.
City: Yuba CityTips: We were able to spot a lot of fish our my HDS-8, but few would bite. I think the cloud cover would have kept the air temp warmer and enhanced the bite, but no such luck. We both just did the VERY slow drag - stop technic - even with a swimbait. Rock bottom produced better than a smooth bottom. Look for rock patches in about 25-40 feet - off the bank!

Report: Left out of Antlers boat ramp again this time there was a guy out there dragging Logs in with a cable with his truck. Next time please dont block the boat ramp. 4 boats trying to launch and all of us had to launch away from the ramp because this guy was blocking it. He finally moved. Thank you. fished Jig heads with straight worms from 10 am to 5pm on sac arm. Got 13 spots and a Two pound plus Largemouth. Fish in 18 to 55 feet of water fished slow. Got a couple of reaction strikes with a 3/8 oz spinnerbait but didnt land em. Was a tough slow day but in the end , not bad again for wintertime. Most spots where right about 12 to 13 inches. Caught two dinks. Put em all back in the lake. Fish were very scattered and was mostly a very light bite.
City: Klamath fallsTips: Be patient and try lots of different presentations . Spinner and ripbaits if the wind is blowing. When its calm and sunny , fish on the bottom . Mornings are slow. Better bite in the PM
