Water Temp: 66-68
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished 4 days with two 6yr olds and my 13 yr. old son. The little ones hammered the dinks on slim senkos around willows. After the little ones got there fair share of fish, my son and I went out looking for some better bites. Weather was unstable so fish were in kind of a funk. jig and dropshot bite was not happening. Pretty weird when you cant get 'em on jigs on shasta. We ended up finding some better fish. When it was clear and calm we fished creek channels with 5" senkos and got a few in the 2# range. When a cell would blow through we fished steep main lake structure with spinnerbaits and big topwaters. Thats when we got our better fish. lots of 2's a few close to 3 and 2 fish right about 4# one just over and one just under.
City: MckinleyvilleTips: 5" Senkos in creek channels. cast out let sink to bottom and repeat. no shaking or dragging it back.
big topwater and spinnerbaits on windy main lake structure. -

Water Temp: high 40's / low
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: The water at Shasta has been SUPER clear this year. Probably as clear as I can ever remember seeing it in my life, Almost makes Whiskeytown look like a mud puddle :). The bite is double tough out there right now, There is absolutely no question about that, but it is starting to come on a little bit.
The last team tournament on Shasta this past weekend took 15.1 to win, 13.37 for second and 11.51 for third, Fourth was 11.1 and the weights tapered off from there. The two team events on the weekends prior to that took a little over ten pounds to win and each of those bags had one kicker over four pounds and were also won by the same guys.
The reaction fish have not really come on yet, There have been a few spinnerbait and ripbait fish caught here and there but that is definitely not a reliable bite right now.
Its been a low and slow kinda deal fishing mostly soft plastics i.e. dartheads, dropshot rigs and the like with 4" and 6" worms and tubes in brown's, green's and shad colors.
There have been very few swimbait fish caught and those have been only under ideal conditions.
If the sun is on the water and the sky is clear fish your plastics. If it clouds up and the surface gets some chop try looking for a reaction bite but be prepared to go back to you finesse gear.
They are being caught in a wide variety of depths ranging from 4 feet to 60 feet, The fish are pretty scattered.
Just about everyone you talk to who's been out and is saying anything will tell you the same. It's tournament time up there now so most of the guys that are fishing them aren't talking much because they don't want to give away what they are on.... and to be truthful, You really can't blame them... they have a pretty good chunk of money on the line, figuratively speaking.Tips: Light line, Long casts and move slow. Check a wide variety of structure as there is no hard and fast rule to how the fish are positioning right now. They are eating.... It's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time when they go on the feed.
The guys at Phils know the lake very well and they do go above and beyond to help anglers out and will get you pointed in the right direction. -
Water Temp: 51
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Overcast no rain, bite was good in the morning slowed down by midday. Most fish in 40+ feet.Fished jigs and worms on darts more bites on worms better fish on jigs.10 fish all in first 3 hours of morn.
City: ReddingTips: Don't try to get tips from Phils unless your one of the "in crowd".Post more here so we can all get good info from each other.
