Water Temp: Boiling
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: The risk of ninja fishing = poaching is being apprehended by the Poaching Task Force, comprised of reps of BLM, DFG, County Sheriff, and FSJ (Friends of San Justo) who visit the reservoir several times a month, at night, with night vision devices, for the sole purpose of arresting and filing poaching charges against anyone who violates the No Trespassing signs on the fences around San Justo Reservoir, which is CLOSED.
City: HollisterTips: You have been fairly warned!

Shadow Cliffs Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Haven't been to Shadow Cliffs for a year. Took my float tube to the lake, pay to get into the lake, then they happen to tell me that the back ponds are closed for... STEELHEAD??!! WTF??? There's no frickin way a steelhead would show up in Shadow Cliffs!!
So I ended up fishing the main lake for a few hours with no luck. I hate fishing the main lake for bass though.
With the back ponds closed for an imaginary fish, that ends fishing at Shadow Cliffs for me...

Water Temp: 71-75
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: What a difference a month or so makes!! After my last trip, this one was beautiful - no clouds for 3 days, very warm, and flat water!! I had a half-day guide trip on Wed and the fishing was slow except for lots of small ones. The future looks good for the smallies - lots of young 'uns!! He did hook a nice one but lost it. He wanted to throw crankbaits most of the time and had quite a bit of action in spite of the 15 foot or so water clarity. Lots of nice bass at the 20 to 30 foot depth but couldn't get them to bite. I went out Wed evening for an hour or so to one of my favorite rock piles and did catch 4 up to 2 1/4 lbs and lost another 3 or 4. Boy, are they strong in the summer!!! I was using Berkley 4" green pumpkin Power worms - about 12 feet deep.
City: Yuba CityTips: I'm sure Senkos would have worked well but didn't use them this trip. I did have one good hit on a black crankbait before dark, but that was it. During the guide trip, I had him using a chartreuse/craw Wiggle Wart which seemed to work well. Many of my favorite spots during the guide trip produced nothing - some wind probably would have helped!

Tips: Try a drop shot and stay in the same spot longer. We were moving slow but we should have gone even slower. We didn

Lexington Lake

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Just received the following response from the Santa Clara Water Quality Manager,
"Thank you for your message. Regarding Lexington Reservoir I believe that it is still open to fishing but just not boating. I assume you are only interested in boat fishing. You are aware that the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department (Parks) currently runs a boating inspection program on four of our District reservoirs. The District helps fund part of that program but is not the owner. You'd need to contact Parks, if you haven't already, regarding implementing an inspection program on Lexington. The contact there is Ms. Kelly Klett at 408-355-2220.
As far as plans for implementing boat inspections at Lexington I can tell you that there has been recent discussions about implementing inspections at Lexington. However, funding is an issue and it would need to work under the current funding amount for the existing program since budget concerns limit additional funding.
City: MontereyTips: Call Ms. Kelly!

Water Temp: 79 - 82
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: The Fishing really has picked up in the last week with better numbers and larger fish.
In the last few guided trips I had a kid catch his first fish ever and another catch his biggest limit. Fish range from 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds. On Saturday we had a 22 1/2 lb limit and over 20 fish in a 6 hour day fishing with soft plastics and some reaction baits.
I fished both the north and south end. In the south the algae is thick at the launch ramp but I was able to fish in cleaner water all week.
I found the fish to be grouped up and most of the spots we fished we could catch a bunch of them if we had patience and stayed on them.
City: Clear LakeTips: Tips.. Fish slow, most of the bites are soft or just pressure.
Use your electronics to find bait and fish, If you find the bait the fish are close by. For the shallow bite flip the weed and shade pockets or throw the Frog. For deep fish keep an eye on your graph.
Have fun!......StevePerkinsFishing.com

Water Temp: warm
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Caught the "trifecta" of bass (largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass) from the bank on Monday. First fish came on a spook around 5:40am in Markley Cove. Many hours later and no success around Oak Shores, I finally caught my other 3 bass under the Putah Creek bridge. Only one was caught in the sun. I got many more bites and landed two fish in the shade of the bridge. All my afternoon fish were caught on crawdad imitating plastics drug slowly along the bottom.
City: FolsomTips: Find the shade, especially with deep water or cooler current nearby and you will find more active fish. That's all I could figure out.
