Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Hey Oscar, Try rainbow trout swimbaits like Huddleston or River2sea versions. I grew upon this lake and as a teenager I was catching bass to 10 lbs. Good luck!
City: AntiochTips: Everyone with a float tube likes to throw senkos and jigs on this lake. Switch it up....go with swimbaits. You won't get as many bites, but trust me, there are monster fish in this lake and they will eat a BIG bait.

Water Temp: 48-50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished Sun and Mon, Spoke to BFK (see photo's) when I arrived at Red Bud, they were just coming in at 10:30 am and I was going out, they had did well but had fished all night, cold and wet! I went out and got 13-14 fish to 4 lbs from 10:30 am to 8:00 PM. The 4 lber came at 6:15 pm and I started getting happy, the biggins are starting to play now but after the 4 lber all I got was 2 lb rats an my 6 inch long black blue jig, I mean this jig is big but all that would eat it was rats. Fished till 8:00 pm and said that enough stinging rain for me, if the toadies were biting I would stay in a hurricane or if I would of had some hot coffee!! Monday only got 4 fish to 4 lbs and I fished hard, I threw everything at them. The one thing I did not do is try the flats. The cool thing about Sunday was when they did hit that jig no matter how big they were it was a big thunk!! But I just started using braid and Floro on my jig rod so that may have been why it felt so much more aggressive.
City: San JoseTips: Black/Blue jigs & 6 inch warmouth Robo worms on drop shot, both with lots of Larry toe jam (smelly Jelly) sorry Larry:)

Water Temp: 48-50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Left redbud 12:00pm, off the water @ 4:30pm, with 12 fish up to 6.1lbs in the boat. Started fishing shallow flats up from the preserve and got the first fish on a pointer in 4ft of water. Switched to shakey heads with m/dawn robos and augertails and picked up a couple more off of docks along Anderson Drive in Jago. Decided to switch back to rippin' the Pointer on the flats and found out that was where it was at. Also got 'em on a KIng Shad. Most of the best fish, surprisingly, came in pretty shallow water. They're eatin'. Fun !
City: San AnselmoTips: Pointer in Ghost Minnow, King Shad in Tenn. Shad color, erratic retrieve, 2-3 sharp snaps, long pause, etc, you know the drill...

Report: Just a quick update. My feeble calculations figured that we needed 2.5-3" of rain to bring the Trinity Center ramp back into play. We just went by 2" in my rain guage and it's still raining hard. And my wife says I can't dance...HA!!!!!!!

Water Temp: 52.5
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: weather wise...beatiful day, just a slight breeze, and the outdoor temp was not extremely cold, so it was alot more than i could ask for. As far as the fish bite.... tough bite..but hey its winter time. Caught a lot of small fish on pointers and a drop shot. my dad fished from the back of the boat and brought a dozen of minnows. He caught a limit pretty fast, compared to my 2 small bass barely over 14" each when we first started the day. we did hook into a couple stripers that were keepers, so that was a nice added bonus to the day. hopped over to the false river and just stuck with the pointer (jerk bait) and caught small ones quite regularly. It was actually quite fun, and i didnt complain about the size since I was not expecting to catch very many fish at all. pops and I both landed a limit, but he caught his "cheating" and used live bait hahhaha. Pretty big tourney out of russo's and from what heard, not everyone had 5 fish in their livewell. so that makes me feel alot better about my day.
City: el cerritoTips: the past 4 trips have all been dedicated to rip baits, and i'm really appreciating their fish catching capabilities. Its such an easy technique that doesnt require too much skill...yet still doesnt get the recognition like a jig or t-rig worm. any ways, like all the previous posts...just work it slow.. the longer the pause the better, and just wait for that bass to nail the bait. KEEP WARM out there!!!!

Water Temp: 50-55
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Well we started out fishing right around noon over around Rattlesnake Isalnd...We got an early start on a long day/night fishing trip! We pulled a quick fish off a dropshot in about 18 feet of water..We then moved over to Shag Rock...We began working the outer edges of that bank all the way down producing us about 15 fish up to 4 pounds, ALL on dropshot and jigs..Caught about 8 more fish until it got dark..And when it did it WAS ON! At about 5:30 P.M. right when it got about at its darkest point the bite absolutely came alive..There was hardly any moon which was suprising for the bite to be so hot.. We started throwing BIG black and blue jigs! One was throwing with a rattle, and the other w/out..But it didnt matter...We went to a location right past konocti and pulled 15 fish out of ONE SPOT!! Including a 7.8 and a 8.4..They were the 2 last fish to bite! We then shot across to this point i know about right across from Redbud launch and began slamming them on 7 in. Mission Fish swimming them on the bottom! Dumped one easily over 10 and caught about 7 others up to 5 pounds! Overall about 40 fish most of them coming at night, unbeliveable trip! Bite actually shot off for us at about 8:30 or 9...
City: Yuba CityTips: Fish are obviously scattered all over the lake, but this time of year more fish, and the bigger fish are going to be out deeper! We caught LL of our fishing during the DAY in about 18-25 feet...BUTTTT when night time came, we began to fish a little more shallower, it seemed those fish moved up closer to the bank to feed..ANywhere from 2-10 feet! GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!

Fished Beals point area and picked up 4 but finally started to look for less windy areas.

Water Temp: 54
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Cold...windy...no fish caught...should have stayed home. Spent 3 hours tossing chatters, spinners, drop shoting and even reverted to night crawlers in an attempt to pick up a trout. One, maybe two, shortbites on the spinners and nothing boated.
City: RocklinTips: Stay home.

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 56-61
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Honestly, I really don't know the best way to present this report. Since I guided last night at Clear Lake, home for 4 hours sleep, meet next client at 9:45 am at Berryessa - I think the Lord knew that I would need some excitement to keep me alert! That I got!!!!! This was one of the most amazing guide trips I have experienced in my 26 years of service. My client had never caught a bass before and now his bass fishing future is ruined! He wants to buy a bass boat and thinks fishing is always this good. I assured him this day was special!! So, how good was it? Most of you know I keep an exact count of how many are caught on each trip. I failed today because I couldn't keep up - I lost it after 60+ bass (all but one over 13") and 7 salmon. We had a final count around 70 and a good limit slightly over 16 lbs. One 2 lb smallie on a jig, a 3 lb 3 oz largemouth on a Chug Bug topwater bait (2nd cast - showing client how topwater worked!) and ALL the rest on Duh! 3/4 and 2 oz spoons (black shad and morning dawn) and drop-shotting Basstrix Flastrix 4" minnow baits. After working some shad schools that we metered, results were poor, though my client drop-shotted his first-ever bass - a 15" spot. After we found another bait ball, bass were everywhere and were attacking my spoon. I gave him an immediate crash course in spooning and he caught on quickly. His first spoon fish was a 16+" spot and he NEVER caught a small one!!! I caught all the small ones - getting them out of the way, har! As shadows formed in the late afternoon we started nailing nice largemouth in the 2 1/2 to 3 lb range and I did manage a 3-10 largemouth. About a third of our bass were largemouth - a rare Berryessa event in my boat! I don't think I have every fished an area for nearly 4 hours, but it simply was too much fun to leave. He was having a ball!!!!!! There were a few periods of time that the spoon would not touch the bottom - it would never get there - even when I switched to the 2 oz Duh! I think that was one of the longest feeding periods I have ever seen. We did move around the narrows a bit and found other shad schools, but nothing like the main one we were fishing. I wish you could have seen my Lowrance X-25 - activity everywhere. Thought it would blow a gasket! Sorry to be so wound up, but guides need a day like this once in awhile!
City: Yuba CityTips: I don't really have much to say that I haven't already mentioned in my previous reports. The key right now is "follow the bait" and look for deep flats. Sometimes, 50 feet of water is 200 yards offshore or 30 feet from the bank. That seemed to be the magic depth today. I wish I knew what could have turned these bass on like this. Conditions wern't that good - north wind, previous cold night, bluebird skies, clear water, and other excuses. The bass didn't care. Possibly the cold nights are beginning to trigger the late fall feed, though the water temp is way above average for this time of year. Sometimes you don't ask question - just go along for the ride!!! By the way, don't be misled by the nice topwater fish - that was the only blowup.

Water Temp: 56-57
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I was able to guide my "big fish client record guy" Tues late afternoon and night. He caught a 12-9 with me several years ago at Clear Lake. I would have rather gone a different night since a front had passed and Monday night was much warmer. This was the night he had to go - so we did. The bite was slow before dark - in fact we caught nothing. Shortly after dark, near Shag Rock, he finally sets into a good one and I net a 5 lb 15 oz bass. He was using a jig. Last week a client landed a 5-14. Do I hear 6 lbs? We fished areas around the narrows until the wind became a cold problem. We traveled south to the Clear Lake arm and were able to warm up a bit as there was no wind. Jigs, Power worms, ring worms, and yes, as the previous poster mentioned - black/red brush hogs! Glad he caught some nice bass! Back to our trip, as I suspected, the big bass bite was off. We did catch 21 fish but our 5 best were only around 18 lbs. My client really got going after 10 pm and caught several in a row. We hooked 2 or 3 pretty good bass but they just wern't inhaling the bait as in previous trips. Most of our fish were 20 to 25 feet deep.
City: Yuba CityTips: A cold weekend at Clear Lake is forcast - that could be a good thing for the future. It should get more big bass into a heavy feeding mode. Most years the water temp in in the low 50's at this time - or even lower. The jig bite should get better along with bulky baits like the brush hog. Don't forget the Smelly Jelly!
