Lexington Lake

Water Temp: 76
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went out for a couple hours after work from 6-8:15. Caught 6, dinks to 2.5 lbs on various lures, trap, small crank, split shot grub and a jig, all over the lake. Would just catch one in one post then had to move to another spot. All were pretty shallow, 8'-10'. Weather was warm and very windy.
City: San JoseTips: Match the hatch on lure selection.

Los Banos Lake
-
Water Temp: 75-80
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fishing was good for topwater action. Started off working the tules with a frog, at first light. I would toss it up against the tules and work it back, I had a nice blow up 5+ pounder but missed her, to slow on the hookset. Once the light was out I threw a buzz bait and got a 4lbr, i went back to the frog and got a 2lbr over some chesse in the back. Came back to the tules and worked the opposite side, got a 3 1/2lbr on a sammy and then back to the buzz bait, a few 2lbrs and then I missed the motherlode. I had a blow up buzzbait I guess the fish went over 10lbs with no problem, but not sure i never had a real good look at her.She took it off a grass line and ran towards deep water and the boat I coul dnot catch up to her to get a solid hook set.

Report: Sure, I'm paying all that dough to fish there and not keep those rascals to feed my belly, sure. Fish will only die anyway soonber or later.
City: davisTips: Think of it as saving a trip to the store. Craws are all over the lake and are the bass'es mainstay in warmer months. Hope you can hear my tune.

Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 63-74
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I took out a client Sunday that wanted to learn how to throw crank baits. I was a little concerned about the day because of the low pressure system that moved in. As it was he did get about 30 bass all bracket fish but the differnce was that the bass were mostly hitting the baits with their mouths closed. He got hit after hit with no fish. The good thing was he learned where the strike zone was and He had a great day. Monday I took out a husband and wife that wanted to learn how to fish Lake Oroville and have a little adventure. Todays bite was a lot better as the bass were eating the baits once again. Top water action this morning was great with pop-r's and flukes. They had 16 top water bass with the biggest at 16+ inches. With the Sun hitting the water we headed up the North Fork to throw senko's and tubes. They caught another 14 bass the biggest hitting 2.9 lbs., before it was time to go.
City: ParadiseTips: Every day is a diffent day on the water. With the lake dropping about 15 inches a day, its like fishing a new lake every day. Crank baits were lipless in shad colors and the senko's were the pumpkin with black flake and tube was the clear sparkle gitzit.

Cachuma Lake

Water Temp: 72
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fog - Fog and more fog. Well, that's what it offered when the gate opened to the launch this morning. A heavy layer mixed with smoke filled the first 30 feet of the top water and conditions were really critical. I followed the edges to the right of the marina all the way towards the island then finding myself boat deep in some unexpected stickup's to the point I had to raise the motor to pull myself off the soals. Really a critical mistake on my part as I could have 'beached' myself. Fortunately, the 3-5mph speed kept me from getting stuck. So BE CAREFUL out there. The Zca smoke was lingering much of the day but the sun finally popped through about 9, giving way to clear skies less the smoke.
Hit some walls by the cisturn with my new CLU 'yellow' eye top water and scored on the third cast, making me VERY happy about this new creation from Kelly Barefoot and CLU Lures. I was eager to try my Casitas Black Buster but wanted to wait for a better area like back in the river. Finally some clearing and I followed the outline of the island around to the reeds, seeing a distant light off a boat fishing the soals. We chatted for a bit and both boaters said the ride out was really a scary effort asd they too found the stick-ups and shallow water. Made it to the river and started tossing cranks. Two hits but dinks. Went to a lipless shad crank and scored a 12 incher alond the walls, tossed a jig with no takers nor on a drop which surprised me. Hit little Cachuma, Santa Cruz and Johnson with only minimal hits and called it a day at noon with the wind just coming up to speed and the sun coming in with some heat. Lake was pretty empty today considering. Think the fire has people spooked away.

Clear Lake

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished on Sunday after a slow guided trip on Sat. We found them yesterday on rock walls with 15 fish to the boat in 2hrs (even with sideways hooksets") and not being a graduate of "hook-set university". Rocks were the key 10-15ft in the AM in shaded areas- plastics on stand-up jig heads were key.

Report: Fought the elements again Sat (wind) trying to teach clients new spots and help them catch bass. At least the wind let up a little after 12 noon. We fished the Clear Lake arm mostly and found a few areas to tuck away a bit. The problem with wind is that it really concentrates the boats - slowing the bite some. We got a few 2 pounders in the boat on Yamamoto Kreature baits, though we should have had many more. I suggested that one of my clients attend a hook-setting school at Westernbass University - whereever that is!!!!! He missed fish after fish - including a near 5 pounder in the afternoon in which his hookset hit me in the belly. I tried to get out of the way but diving in the water was the only option and I passed on that! I again gently (I think!) advised against a sideways hookset! Overhead - into the body hooksets are best - and guides will remain nice guys!!!! He did land a nice 3 1/2 pounder shortly before and his partner also lost a nice bass near the boat - 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. About 10 am, on a green pumpkin 8" worm, I stuck a typical summer fish I thought. She was a little better than that - a little over 5 lbs. In fact, green pumpkin became the best color for most of the plastics we threw. Several bass were caught from 17 to 25 feet deep. Though our numbers wern't very good and we had a possibility of maybe a 20 lb limit, we settled for a 16-17 lb limit and hopefully some help on fishing skills and reading structure for the clients.
City: Yuba CityTips: It is had to evaluate a trip like this as clients sometimes are very excited and maybe on edge when fishing with a guide. Sometimes their skills arn-t up to normal and I try never to be hard on anyone - though the jokes will fly!!!! I really felt the amazing drop in water temp and recent movements of the bass have taken a toll on the bite. As demonstrated in the last report, someone always gets into them at Clear Lake and that's what helps make it a great lake. One should be willing to adjust more these days and never give up! The bass are still there - and the shad are getting to the eatin' size!!

Report: Folsom Bass fished. 22 boats of eager fisherman.Blast off safe lite great expectations.Vern my draw for the day and I headed off to some deep docks out of the wind. We had a nice limit by 7:30. Jumper around looking for rock piles but they all had a boat on the good ones. Picked up a 5+ lber on Rattlesnake . The bite for me was throw it out and don't move it.We came in with 15 1/2 lbs. Count to 10 and lift slow. They would be there like spotted bass. The winning weight was 31 lbs by a team that drop shotted there limit???? They should ban drop shotting on clear lake. It's a power lake? Sat Bonner got a 10+ on a spinner bait for a real nice check. It was the Elk Grove tournament. Winners had 20 lbs. Sat was very windy again. 20+ mph. Yet they were skiing behind race boats at 70+mph right in front of the red budd ramp? How crazy can you be.
City: orangevaleTips: Throw everything at them. wake baits, frogs, spooks, fish whatever you enjoy and hang on. I like tubes and jigs. They both worked for me. Red craw worms drop shot worked for the winners.Frogs were working saturday but not sunday? Call bob at limit out tackle for current info. Water temp is going down already? Lake level is about bottomed out.The algie bloom isn't quite as bad but the wind and cold weather help there. Felt funny wearing heavy jacket on clear lake in Aug?

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: My buddy and i are heading down to clear lake tthis thursday and we are wondering how the bite has been? There hasn't been as many reports on here as usual. How about the night bite? I heard it as pretty good a couple of weeks ago. We are thinking the night bite should be pretty good withe the full moon coming up this weekend. Are there any big fish being caught anymore? I have fished down there for a few years now, and any information would be great. What end of the lake should we fish, North or South and if its not to much to ask what type of structure should we look for? Rocks, docks, pads, etc?
City: medfordTips: Thanks for any help we appreciate it.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: fished for a while with some buddys and caught 2 small dinks in about 5 min on a drop shot in the south lake. no one else hooked up, my buddy lost one on a jig. there are big fish in there but if every one keeps the big fish the will not exist for much longer, CATCH, ADMIRE, AND PUT IT BACK!!!!! if you wanna keep a fish keep the small 1 or 2 pounders, give em a chance to grow!!!! and why would you want to eat anything from that lake anyway? at this rate the fishing in merced is going to be nonexistant if people keep on keeping the fish from there!! the spawns are to small and only happen every few years in this lake. SO STOP KEEPING FISH A$$ HOLES!!!!!!!

Report: Went out for some night fishing and was dissapointed when I never got a hit. The tide was out and the bite was off. I tried black buzz baits, jigs, blades, ect. Nothing. My last night trip was a 20 fish night. I guess the tide and a full moon really makes a better trip. Just when you think you have them figured out they let you know who is really in charge.
