Clear Lake

Water Temp: 60-62
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: One word today: WIND. I don't know who it was but someone forgot to shut that big fan off up in Lakeport, man ohh man. Even with the wind I did great. I caught just over 30 fish with my largest being a 6-3 landed behind Anderson Island. I also took a nice 4-14 out of the wind behind Buckingham Point. All of my fish today were taken on the shakey head worm, I used a watermelon colored worm on a 3/8 shakey head. Very aggressive bites just slowly dragging the worm across the bottom with some pauses mixed in. The wind certainly limited my choices and ended up cutting my day short. I did fish Glenhaven for awhile and caught several fish, however the wind made it just about impossible to keep the boat positioned. Most of the fish I caught were taken right outside the marina and all along Anderson and Dollar Islands.
City: PetalumaTips: Happy Mothers Day !!!

Water Temp: who cares
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Started early on a log guide, not working (global warming screwed it up this year). South Fork all morning, abass here, a bass there. Wind did not stop anmd skiers etc started their littel weekend fun, procedind bacvk out to mainbody at eleven thirty, all hell broke loose. Post spawners weere on the the feed, windy banks with deep water nearby was the ticket. "Woochie jigs" prevailed. took about two limits in less than two hours, nothing under three pounds. Blacks and spots. Tails were bloody and bodies were injured on all fish. Hard to keep boat in position but that was the way it had to be. All fish came from one of my better 200 yard stretches. Glad I had my Z 12lb test as I didn't use a net. Left because of bleeding thumbs. Be back tomorrow.
City: SacTips: Fish the windward banks no matter how tough it is. Adjust the weight of your jigs, move them as slowly as possible. Most fis caught will be larger on jigs. Remember it turned on at about 11:00 a,.m. Good fishing Jiombo

Oroville Lake

Water Temp: 64-68
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I didn't know what to expect at the lake today with a cold front (good amount of wind) and 3 generations in the boat with me - 10 year old, dad, and grandpa! Well, when you least expect it - great things happen! The wind probably did help the bite and of all things - yes, the 10 year old got the biggest bass - an 18 1/8 inch spot, spawned out, about 2 1/2 lbs. Wow, was he thrilled (photo page on Sun)! We caught 34 bass - 7 over the slot! I really don't know our 5 five weight - maybe 11 1/2 to 12 lbs. I had taught the young boy how to cast on a previous trip and he is a pro now! And he can set the hook too! Dad probably caught the most - he started off slow and then we couldn't stop him! We started in the Bidwell Cove and then spent most of the day in the middle fork. We caught most of our bass on Robo worms with morning dawn starting out good but by 10 am Margarita Mutilator III was the color they wanted! We found some spawning bass in about 15 feet of water but couldn't see them well because of the wind. I tried drop-shotting a Basstrix flashtrix minnow and nailed two of them. We caught a few on #221 Senkos but the wind made that technique difficult. Texas-rigged 4 and 6 inch Robo and Power worms was all we needed to do. It is fun to spend the day with folks having a great time - I don't think the 10 year old every stopped smiling!!
City: Yuba CityTips: Because of the amount of people in the boat and the wind, no topwater or crankbaits were tried. I did test a new buzzbait with no success which didn't surprise me. The fish are hanged around flooded trees and clay banks with a nearby dropoff. We did catch some on points with worms but I am sure many were suspended on the points. If there wasn't so much wind, we would have thrown Senkos off points for suspended bass. I was a little surprised the bass wanted a dark colored worm during the brightest time of day. I fished blue and other light colors - they wern't interested! Bass were spitting up good-sized pond smelt - they are feeding!!

Shadow Cliffs Lake
-
Water Temp: Unknown
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I tubed on 5/12 in the morning in Arroyo and the bite was still pretty good. Again, throwing Senkos into deep cover is what worked for me, though I will say that there were not many big fish hitting. Mostly small fries under 2 lbs. My buddy L Dub was fishing deep in the tules and caught 6 last weekend. I'm guessing that the big boys are deeper, so you might want to try that.
City: San MateoTips: As summer comes, I'll switch to fishing the weed walls as they are already starting to consume the lake. Lots of bass just sitting at the bottom of the weed walls waiting to strike. Throw to the edges and let your bait sink. Good luck.

Report: TOOK THE WIFE AND DOG, AND THE NEW KLAMATH BASS BOAT TO THE LAKE FOR 8 DAYS VACATION, FISHED IN THE AM AND THE EVENINGS EVERY DAY, BOATED 226 FISH DURING MY STAY, GREAT TOP WATER AND PLASTIC WORM FISHING, MORNING DAWN ROBO WORMS, POPPERS, AND ZERA SPOOKS, KILLED EM", HAD ALOT OF FUN WITH THE WIFE CATCHING APPROX 32 FISH A DAY. City: PITTSBURG,CATips: MORNING DAWN ROBO WORMS AND POPPERS,ZERA SPOOKS WORKED WELL, BUZZ BAITS, CRANK BAITS, JERK BAITS SPINNER BAITS DID NOT PRODUCE FOR SOME REASON..FISH WOULD SWIM UP TO THE BAIT AND THEN SWIM AWAY, COLORS DID NOT MATTER**

Spring Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Rented a canoe at lake ralphine and spent about 2hrs trying to position the boat in order to catch a bedding bass. It wanted nothing to do with my jig, so i switched it up to a pegged tgexas rigged green with black flake tube. I had to hit it in the face a few times, then it took it. It was about 2lbs. I also threw a senko and a spinner bait all around the lake with no success. I then turned the canoe back in and walked over to spring lake. I threw a yamamoto creature around with no takers. The bass are post spawn at spring lake. You can see the minnows and large bass protecting the fry.
City: Santa RosaTips: If i were to do it again, I'd like to hit spring lake with a boat with a trolling motor. Id use a rip bait on one rod, a jig on another, a texas rigged tube, a senko, and a swim bait. I didnt fish spring lake very hard that day and stuck mainly to the boat launch. The water is clear so id keep the color choices to naturals. Good luck.

Report: Got a nice 2 lb. LM bass off Raccoon Point along the tullies on the north side. Bass at Chabot are in reaction bite right now. Senkos and roboworms don't work as well. Zoom fluke baits also work well.
City: RichmondTips: Use a suspending white/purple/orange crankbait and cast and retrieve parallel to the tullies and you should have a few decent bites.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Had a good day today. Caught about 25-30 fish.Between 2 of us. Most fish came on brown and black jigs. Also caught a few on rip baits, shakey head, and topwater. caught 2 fish near 5 pounds. Had 3 nice fish come off. 1 jumped and threw my swimbait. She was around 8-9 pounds. I got a pretty good look at her as she broke my heart. Lost 2 other nice fish on jigs. Set the hook on one and it immediately starts pulling drag and goes deep for a dock piling. I couldn't even slow it down as it wrapped me up in the dock and shook off. Had a great day but losing a few nice ones really eats at ya.
City: Yuba CityTips: Fished mostly south end Jago Bay,Monitor Island, Etc. Jigs were the ticket for us as far as consistency.

Trinity Lake

Water Temp: 60+
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished with a bunch of OLD friends today(81 year old Dewey was the spry one). Had a great time. Gave em all a chanch to watch smallies doing the dance. I schooled Bud a little on bed fish but the best fish came in deeper water. Young Dewey lead the way today with a 4-8 smallie. Several smallies of 3-4 lbs along with a 4+ black on a crankbait made it worth their while to tow their boat over the hill. I like nothing better than to take a kid fishing, but sometimes taking a bunch of old-f*rts out ain't half bad either. Now if I could just get them to get up before breakfast, so they wouldn't miss the best part of the day.
City: WeavervilleTips: Thanks guys for getting me away from the real world for a day.

Report: Ran into Larry in AM waiting for his clients. Headed out to the narrows. Had one of my better days at Clear lake. Found success on green pumpkin tubes in the clearer water near mid-lake. Brown tubes better in the south end where the algae bloom was denser. Caught a few fish on Senkos but didn't have the "right" color. Picked up a 7.7 on swimbait and had one other follow. Otherwise, not much action on the swimbait. Managed several in the 3.5-4 range and broke off another that felt big but never got a look.

Water Temp: up to 70, final
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I set a new record today for my guide service - clients over 2 hours late - at least they finally made it - all three of them! I fished around the Oaks ramp for a bit while I was waiting and got 5 in the boat and dumped a 5 or 6 pounder. One on a Rodstrainer jig and the others on 6" #301 Senkos. When they arrived we worked down the hwy 20 side of Rattlesnake and found excellent fishing in select places. 2 1/4 to 4 1/4 lb bass, one after the other. Amazing. I suggested that one of the clients use a #221 Senko. That keep him busy the rest of the trip - he loved it and so did the bass!! I think I need to replenish my stash of 221's!! I used another favorite that usually works well in the algae bloom - #222. Well, one good idea and one bad - one bass only on #222. Back to #301 for me. I had one of the other clients using the green pumpkin Dead Ringer and he also did very well, especially since he doesn't bass fish much. Angler #3 did his own thing the whole 6 1/2 hours. This "things" didn't work very well and he only caught 2 I think. One of the guys did throw swimbaits a lot but no takers. He did catch a few on his small plastic craw, but as is often the case with those baits, the hooks are too small. He lost several including a nice 5 lb+ bass at the first place we stopped. A beautiful day finally at Clear Lake temperature-wise and wind-wise! We landed 36 bass in 6 1/2 hours plus my earlier 5 for a total of 41. We had a nice limit at 22 lbs after catching a 4 3/4 and a 5 - fishing Senkos down to 20 feet, south of Shag Rock! Those were caught around 2 pm. We stopped at Sea Breeze on the way in and saw several nice bass suspended under docks. Another spawn about to happen?
City: Yuba CityTips: After an amazing spring weather-wise and monster bass-wise, today seemed almost back to normal. Bass gradually getting smaller, post-spawn sores on their bodies, and Clear Lake quickly becoming Green Lake. I think Senkos really shine this time of year and they certainly did today. I was surprised that we didn't get many Senko bass under docks. We caught most of the Senko bass on rocky bottoms - 6 to 14 feet deep. The lake get more clear as one gets to the narrows and around into Horseshoe Bay. That probably will change soon. Did not try any topwater today.

Water Temp: 65-75
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Beatiful day. little wind, flat glass water for the most part. Algae is blooming bigtime. At spots there was currents of algae. Best 5 by 3oclock was about 20lbs, with biggest almost 5. Swimbait, drop shot, SwimSenko, and a couple on a crank bait including a Crappie.
City: PetalumaTips: Where it was clear and I could see fish/they could see me the, bite was slow. In algae water with little visiblity caught most of the fish.
