WE LEFT WENT UP TO SKI ISLAND AND SPOONED SOME MORE, AND THE WIFE OUT FISHED ME WITH THE SPOON.SHE GOT A COUPLE OF NICE SPOTS IN THE BACK SEAT.I DID STICK A HUGE TROUT WITH A HOPKINS SPOON WHICH WAS A LITTLE EXCITING IF UN YOU LIKE TROUT.ALL IN ALL IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT DAY ON SHASTA. GOOD FISHING TO YOU ALL

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 73-77
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I took a good fisherman to Berryessa yesterday to help him learn the lake better since he was struggling there lately. I decided to meet him at 10 am at Markley so we could fish up to dark. It seemed to be a wise choice at the end of our trip since most of our 14 bass were caught after 4:30 pm. The lake is very warm still and no wind with bright sun make daytime fishing very tough. We spend the early part of the trip looking at off-shore structure and other good fishing areas and then got serious about fishing in the late afternoon. After 2 dinks, I drop-shotted a nice largemouth on a 4" Basstrix flashtrix minnow. Since my client had not drop-shotted before - I told him this was the time to learn! And learn he did! He missed several until he got the hang of it and every bass he boated was quality - up to a 2 3/4 lb smallie! Actually the big smallie was caught on a tube bait he brought. He caught her on the first cast - wow!! The Basstrix minnows are all we used up to dark - drop-shotting from 15 to 35 feet of water. Most of our bass were caught from Big Island to Rancho Montecello. Many of our bass were largemouth with two nice spots at 2-2 and 2-4. We had a nice limit about 11 lbs. I was hoping for a topwater bite but only saw one quality bass bust a shad. I threw a Chug Bug to it and there was a blow-up but I missed! I did throw the bug a dusk and nailed a nice 1 3/4 lb largemouth. We had a great time learning the lake and had some quality late-summer bass as a bonus!
City: Yuba CityTips: All the resevoirs need some cold nights and a front or two to get the quality fish moving and chasing. Berryessa was like the dead sea yesterday - nearly all day. No surface activity at all except 4 to 6 inch bass busting shad once in awhile and that one bigger one that I missed. We fished some submerged islands in different parts of the lake and they wern't holding bass during the day. I suggest looking for any shadows you can find - especially as the sun sinks lower on the horizon every week. When the surface temp drops into the '60's, things should pick up. Remember last year? There was no fall!! Let's hope we have one this year.

Water Temp: 65-71
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Well today was the second trip this week. Launched at the famous B&M Resort- on the water at 6:30 fishing Franks shortly after. Main body somewhat blown out...fishable if I really had to, but ended up fishing canals. Early morning topwater.....about 8 strikes, and 5 fish landed-all dinks! Started with spinnerbaits around 9:00a.m.-Nada. Once again tried it all. The only pattern I could get to work was tossing Senkos on windy points. Caught lots of fish but nothing over 2.5 pounds. Got tired of catching peanuts, so I went over to Potato Slough again. No dinks today, higher tide and only one hook-up. A 4 pounder that spit the hook at the boat. I WANTED DESPERATLY to find a different pattern, but no go. This report is starting to sound a little like Mark L. from a few days ago! REally lookimg forward to hooking some larger fish soon!!!!
City: AntelopeTips: Not much has changed the last few days. The only hot ticket I can share is that I used a buzzbait to catch my topwater fish. How are other parts of the Delta doing?

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went fishing today with Cooch. Bite was slow in the morning and we ended up fishing drop shot rigs and texas rigs with watermelon red baits. The biggest fish was probably 3# with most of them in the 1 - 1.5 range. If you want to learn to fish better weather you are experienced or a beginner Cooch is the man to call. He is a great guide and a fun dude to fish with. I would recomend the experience for anybody.
City: San Jose CaTips: When in doubt go to your special spot and grab your drop shot rod! Call Cooch!

Water Temp: 69
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched out of Holland Tract Marina about 7:00 ran up to around Mildred Island. Started off with a Pop-R and had no takers. I then switched to a Craw Wiggle Wart and started to kill em. Caught about 20 fish all off the Wart. Best 5 went for 18 lbs.
City: LivermoreTips: Fish next to the shore around rip rap and target scattered tulles. It's important to fish shallow next to deep water. Windy sides are the best. Good luck.

Water Temp: 68-74
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I fished the "red sea" with my wife today. We launched at 11:00AM and fished until 3:30PM. We focused on Buckingham, Glenhaven and Anderson Island. We caught and released 12 fish. Our best 5 went 4, 3, 2, 2, 1.5 for a total of 12.5. Not a huge limit for sure but fun nonetheless. Today the majority of the fish came in on the LV 500 and a couple (the big ones) were taken on the drop shot.
City: PetalumaTips: LV 500. The crankbait bite should be picking up nicely over the next few weeks.

Report: Don't fish tournaments, so, here is the scoop. South fork, underwater bridge at both ends. Good bite early, after nine you work. Four blacks(7 and a 5), the rest were spots four pounders, in the big limit. Caught many threes and only two small two pounders. In all about thirty keepers, limit around 25 lbs. How? oh I forgot, spoons. Good fishing, adjust your drag. Jimbo
City: SactoTips: Abrupt lifts (two-three feet or less) let the fish tell you how they like it. 10 pound Seagar flouro. Move around the bridge and immediate feeding area, they scatter a bit whem they pack up.

Water Temp: 70
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: My friend Steve and I hit the water around 3 pm and within an hour had picked up the first fish on a drop shot. Over the next three hours I managed 3 more on drop shot, 1 on darter head and 1 on a Chatterbait. Steve hooked up two nice 2.25 pounders split shotting and one small little guy on a carolina rig. We have several other hits but very soft. 9 fish total nothing real big but always fun just to get on the water.
City: LincolnTips: Most of the fish were caught in 20-25 feet except for the darter head which was around 4 ft and the Chatterbait which was about 10-15 ft.

Oroville Lake

Water Temp: 62
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Took the grandsons fishing up the middle fork Sunday. Caught 22 fish between 8:00 and noon, most under the slot. Caught one over the slot..it went 2# 14oz. Had 4 more inside the slot for a limit just over 9 pounds. Three of our fish were smallies.
The best fish came on a darterhead with a 3 1/2" Yamamoto Kuttail worm in watermelon with gold flake. The big one came shallow on a steep wall. The rest of the slot-fish came on the drop on similar stuff. The small fish came deeper on dropshot worms. Grandsons had a blast.
City: Fair OaksTips: Two colors that worked best were watermelon with gold flake and smoke blue pearl.

San Justo Lake
-
Water Temp: 66
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Another beautiful day on the lake...sunny, clear, and very little wind. Started the day with a bass on the first cast, a short distance from the dock, on a shad Risto Rap crankbait. Later, got two more on that lure and three on a white crankbait slow-rolled on the bottom in 15-20 feet of water. Not fast action, but enough to make a nice day on the water. John managed only two bass today, both on white spinner-baits slow-rolled on the bottom. All of our fish were between 1 and 2 1/2 lbs.
City: MontereyTips: Thermocline is at 32 feet. The lake had dropped another foot or so, and the bass seem to have pulled off the shore and are holding deeper. Try both shad crankbaits for the suspended fish (many showing on the depthfinder at about 12 feet), and slow-rolled spinnerbaits for those on the bottom to 25 feet deep.
