    • Water Temp: 78 to 83

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I went salt water fishing with my club on the "El Dorado" with Captain Robert for strippers and halibut. I came in second place with a halibut weighing 15.6 pounds (see photo of Tom holding a stripper). Back to my favorite fishing place Lake Berryessa I went early morning fishing with Mike and he had a fun day in the photo he is holding 2.5 and a 3 pound small mouth bass. Now is a good opportunity to see the structure where you usually fish since the water is so low you can study how the bass use the terrain. That evening I went out with John and the fishing was great our largest bass was over 5 pounds(see photo). The next morning I met Scott and his two sons Cooper and Cody at the dock and we set out for the day. Cooper fishing on the shore side caught three bass in a row and Cody fishing the deep side complained that he wanted to fish the other side but as he was talking he got a hit and started reeling in his catch which turned out to be a little over 18.5 inches and over 3 pounds so I asked Cody if he was ready to switch and he said no way(see photo of Cody's fish)!!! The next day I went on my son's pontoon boat and no matter what color lure we used with or without "Procure Scent" fish were hitting. Some days no matter what you do it works too bad that can't happen all the time. Large fish weighed over 6 pounds and the smallest fish weighed 2.5 pounds(see photos). We had friends and family visiting so I was busy taking them out and loving every minute of it. 'til next time.................................................good fishing!!!!

Isleton Catfish are the best target species this time of year that can help you beat the summer doldrums . Anchovies, Mackeral and Sardines are good choices here for the whiskerfish. Still waiting as I Looked again for a few anxious Salmon anglers while there were only a few fishing finally started getting an occasional report of success from Salmon searching anglers. While the temperatures get ready to heat up again this weekend look for no change in the Salmon bite this week. Silvertron’s are the best bet for those who want to try.
Walnut Grove No Change, Bank anglers Pile worms and cut baits prevail. Catfish action is getting the most praise, Few Stripes are in the area as anglers recover still around as temperatures return more seasonable in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. The Sacramento Turning Basin continues to be decent with stripes caught there by lure tossers. Red Eye Shad and small shad patterned plastics are the top choices here as well.
Discovery Bay Really while we just had a nice strech a couple HOT days ahead this next week there is hope for the Frog bite to be decent once again. Pro-Z FROGS and Snag Proof frogs getting some explosive strikes. Current and shade are the key. Stay near main river current with Crankbaits Strike King XD 6 and 2.5 square bills. Punching is scoring bass on the main river points. Bass pushing the 4 to 6 mark are showing on occasion. Jig bite on points is also decent!
West Delta More Anglers in search of stripers are finding a few keepers on occasion from both boat and bank. Most of the nice stripers coming soaking Sardines and Anchovies. Antioch Pier scored stripers to 36 inches this week. From as far west as Honker Bay to the Broad Slough and Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Mackeral and Sardines ae finding fun action. A few Salmon success stories have come on the incoming tide with Mepp’s Flying C’s . Bass Bite stays solid in the Break and surrounding cuts. Punching get’s the bites the key is staying square to your target and setting hard.

    • Report: Josh Egan of Castro Valley caught this nice 7.75 lbs. catfish fishing near Honker Bay.

    • Report: by george » Tue Sep 13, 2016 6:34 am

Hey Robert, I was up there the first week of August and had no problems launching out of Barretts Cove south ramp. Water level I am thinking is about sixty percent and looked great but the bite was tough. We spent the week on a house boat and I found the few decent fish I caught on steeper nothing banks.
Got into a fun spoon bite on river points but they were mostly shakers. I think if a guy spent the time in the river spooning you could find some better fish.

    • Water Temp: 76-77

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Today was one of those days I could find fish worth a darn, like they all went on vacation or full bellies as I only got 9 fish today, and all small ones in the 12-13" range. Tried half a dozen color and baits, nothing seemed to help, so gave up, and got off the lake thinking I can't catchy fish !! anymore. Water is dropping faster now, about 2 feet a day and down 91.26 feet from high water mark of the year. Water cooling a tad, found it 76-77 depending on the location. Pictures of the ramp at lime saddle to give you an idea of how low the lake is getting in fishing forum.

    • Report: Clear Lake this week 8/7/2016

Lake level is 3.47 Rumsey and water temps are running 77 to 85 degrees depending.

Well, the bite has finally begun to slow a bit, at least for the quality fish we had been seeing. Anglers can still expect to catch their fair share of fish, but now the lil guys are beginning to dominate.

However, if you are willing to run and burn some fuel, the topwater bite is beginning to become a little more predictable around the lake, just not in large quantity in any one area, and when I say this I mean respective of quality fish. Like I said, the 1-3 pounders seem to be everywhere.

Ploppers, frogs, spinnerbaits, jigs and drop-shots will all get you bit, and you never know the net bite just might be her. Just like these two plopper and jig fish which were part of a 30+ bag.

Water conditions are better than the past couple of summers, at least so far. Yes, there has been a pretty bad fish die off around the lake, and yes there is a mild case of algae, but neither has affected the bite.

With regards to the fish die off, it’s just a dang shame this lake isn’t managed for what it truly is. Despite the neglect, and lack of a management plan by F&W, this place continues to amaze most. It is truly scary to think what possibly could be if were managed as the trophy fishery it truly is. Like I said, just a shame and that’s all the further I will comment.

Our current water elevation is 1682.42 which means we're at about 58% capacity. Water is still coming in but at a slow rate. As of right now, our hours are 5:30AM- 7:00PM Wednesday- Sunday. Bass fishing has been on and off lately but the catfish and panfish bite is steady! If you have any other questions give us a call at (951)926-7201

    • Report: A nice catch by Jon Sparks! He caught this 6.76 lb catfish using night crawlers near an island

    • Water Temp: 81-85

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fishing buddy Mike and I hit the lake yesterday about 5 pm and fished 'til 11 pm. We found no bad algae, but the lake is green in most areas in the afternoon but in nice shape! I agree with clum - the bite right after dark is non-existent. That is usually the case in August - no bite until midnight or after. But before dark -- sometimes awesome as it was yesterday. I even caught a 4 pounder at Fraiser Point about 6 pm. I almost don't fish it anymore - too many great memories of 30 years ago. Most of those bass live up north now. Anyway, I have had so much success with the 7" black Power worm while guiding at night at Berryessa, I decided to find out if Clear Lake bass like them too. They do!! Mike even asked me if he could have one! I told him they were really expensive in my boat - LOL! I caught the Frazier bass on one and a 5-2 in the narrows at night. Mike landed a 4-10 on one also. The bite was great as dusk - landing bass after bass in about 5 to 15 feet of water. Our best five were only about 19 lbs - couldn't get a BIG bite. I must say that those 8 to 12 in bass from 2 years ago have done well feeding and growing! Many are now FAT two-plus pounders - and do they fight!!

Tips: It was impossible to get a deep bite going - if there was one. We caught a few next to the weeds, but found in the hot afternoon, they were out just a little deeper, buried in the rocks. Could not get a crank bite as I did on the previous trip. Some places we tried were simply too windy with rough water

    • Report: From Dan's Delta Outdoors

Upcoming on the Delta This weekend the Snag Proof Open . Dan’s Delta Outdoors next Team event will be August 27th at Big Break Marina More info

Isleton Area Looked again for a few anxious Salmon anglers while there were only a few fishing finally started getting an occasional report of success from Salmon searching anglers Although as the temperatures baked this week and boat traffic was little A few Kings went home for dinner. Silvertron’s scored the salmon. Smallmouth are a great target species this time of year that can help you beat the summer doldrums . Wadda Jigs, and Plastics are good choices here for the hard fighting smallies..

Walnut Grove Mepps Flying“C’ s” getting a few Salmon again this week. Stripes are in the area. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. The Sacramento Turning Basin is really the unsung hero here as there continues to be stripes caught there by lure tossers. Hair Jigs and small shad patterned swim baits are the top choices here as well. Bank anglers Pile worms and cut baits prevail.

Discovery Bay Wind and cooler temperatures are making the bite tougher for those getting ready for the Snag Proof Open, Buzz Frogs and Kicker Frogs are still drawing explosions. While the winds have hampered there search a bit those targeting shaded current areas. Bass pushing the 4 to 8 mark are showing on occasion. A few anglers are still scoring schoolie sized stripers in the Indian Creek side.

West Delta Benicia Anglers report first Salmon daily! With the way they are stacked outside the gate the year looks promising, Look for the usual area to start heating up soon. Mepp’s Flying “C’s” always lead the way in this category. Anglers in search of stripers are finding the bite to be improving but still those who stick with it are getting small keepers on occasion from both boat and bank. From as far west as Honker Bay to the Broad Slough and Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Anchovies and Sardines ae finding fun action and occasional better fish. Drifting bluegill is leading the way for bigger fish but Flukes and Swim baits are also working.

Contra Loma –Still big bass grabbing baits! Whopper Ploppers lead the charge. Try fishing for catfish at Channel Point, Loma Island or from a boat with nightcrawlers or chicken liver. Trout are biting on nightcrawlers at Channel Point, near the swim area, or from a boat. Try fishing for crappie or bluegill with jigs or worms at the boat ramp area, Loma Island or Channel Point area.

Los Vaqueros The Best bet is fishing with cut baits with all the hungry small stripers and catfish around. Trout are a bit slower but still caught in South Cove and Oak Point as well as Peninsula Cove. The baits of choice for shore anglers is garlic scented PowerBaits, nightcrawlers or Kastmasters. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. Light tackle is important for catching trout with 4-6 pound test being plenty. With the continuing plants, trout fishing has been ok with some limits being caught from all around the reservoir.

    • Water Temp: 80-84

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got on the water Tuesday night around 10 pm,fishing was pretty slack for the first couple of hours. Finally got some action on Texas rigged Sweet Beavers pitching them to the weedline and working it slow. There was no crankbait or blade action & the jig bite was slow as well. Ted did manage to stick a nice 7.9 & we caught quite a few in the 2-4 lb, range for the evening. Since there seemed to be a good day time bite, we got out in the afternoon Weds and ran into a brisk lipless crankbait bite. We were south and caught around 30 small bass in the 1-2.5 lb range and also ran into 16 crappie! No bigs but very entertaining! Went in for dinner at 10pm and came back out at midnight. There was a good blade bite and we caught 14 with a best at 6lbs with many 3-4.5 lbs. They were also hitting the jig as well. Best color was watermelon with red flake for jig trailers and dark red blades.

Tips: Not being a good day time fisherman, we were pleasantly surprised to get into a good day bite. Just throw those lipless around rocks and the fish will hit it. The bite died at the onset of dark however. For the blades and jigs, run them slow and they will pick it up and run with it. We stayed south in Konocti and by Wheeler Point. The weeds were not very heavy, but I don't think they were spraying in the areas we fished. This allowed us to fish a lot more places than normal for this time of year! Have at it, the lake is fun right now!

Launched at foreman with mad max. Pretty muddy but it can be done amigo. Bite pretty darn good dog gone it.

    • Report: From Lake County News

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Warm water, lack of oxygen and a heavy biomass load in Clear Lake are among the factors that local and state officials believe are behind a fish die-off in the Lakeport area that occurred over the weekend.

Melanie Pressley, who lives on the lake in the north Lakeport area, said the lake looked good on Saturday night, but when she got up Sunday, she saw hundreds of dead fish on the water.

She said there was a wide variety of fish involved in the die-off – “big, small, medium, anything in between.”

Pressley said that in the 10 years she has lived at her current residence in Lakeport, she's never seen such a die-off, although they're not uncommon on the lake.

“I've heard of it, I've never seen it in a big mass like this,” she said.

Carolyn Ruttan of Lake County Water Resources said she got a report of the die-off on Sunday. She confirmed Pressley's statement that all types of fish were involved.

The area where the die-off occurred starts at Berger Bay, which Ruttan said is the midpoint between north and south Lakeport on the eastern side of Clear Lake, and moves south along the southern part of the lake's upper arm.

“In my opinion, it's low oxygen,” Ruttan said of the die-off's cause.

    • Report: by Gary Dobyns » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:23 pm
There are a fraction of the weeds that were there in early June. The lake also has a strange color to it now. Still fishing is excellent 60-70 fish days with numerous 5-6 pound fish. Lots of fun guys!!

    • Water Temp: 79

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Here til Weds. Hit the water @ 7:30pm, fished south in Konocti, ran into a grip of 2 - 2.5 lber's on blades & jigs. Best was a 4.3 husky fish, broke a few good ones off,but the action was fairly brisk on the small fish. Going to give it a try again tonight

Tips: There was some good action on bigger fish yesterday, so My guess is to move around a lot. We primarily fish at night!

    • Water Temp: 78-79

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched about 5:30am, off the lake by 10am as usual. Decided to try the bridge pilings at hwy 70 on my way to N. fork, found plenty of fish on the graph, stacked from 12-60 feet or deeper, lots of them, guessing 40-50 fish, yet could not get one bite with anything. Weird, last week got over 12 fish, none today. Second stop picked up 7 fish one right after the other, like it should be. All fish nice and fat, all 13 1/2" to 14" and one 15 1/2". Worked the N. fork going towards the river and just picked up one here, one there, no schooling fish after my second stop. Frustrating when you can't find the fish! Worked mostly 25 to 40 foot with most fish right around 30 foot deep. Managed just 14 fish today. Lake still coming down as usual around a foot a day, now 81.21 feet down from high water mark of the year. Picture in fishing forum.

    • Report: From Glory Hole
      Fishing Report
      August 1, 2016

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 582,745 acre-feet of water. The lake level dropped three feet this past week. It is currently at 874 ft. above sea level and 211 ft. from full. The water clarity is clear in most of the lake with a slight stain in some areas. The water temperature is gradually rising, with the average being 76-81 degrees.
There is a two lane concrete ramp with a courtesy dock in place. There will be a courtesy dock on the dirt launch once the lake drops down to that elevation, which is approximately 865′ in elevation.
Trout: Fair. New Melones is kicking out a handful of 2 to 4-pound trout. The trout are holding in the deep/cool areas of the lake. They will remain in these areas throughout the dog days of summer and move shallow once the water begins to cool. The old river channel, the spillway and the dam are all good areas to locate trout. Trolling anglers are catching a few trout and kokanee trolling down to 90′ of water. There are portions of the lake that still exceed 200′ in depth. Look for these areas to locate both trout and kokanee. Presentations that produce sound and vibration will trigger strikes in water that has low visibility. Try using a Rattle Trap trolled at faster speed to catch some of these larger trout. Night anglers have been doing well fishing under a submersible light. Once again search out deep water and pull the bait and the trout up to the light. Live minnows and nightcrawlers are both good bait choices when fishing under a light. Bank anglers will have more success heading to the lakes and rivers in the high country. We do encourage catch and release for the brown trout as The Department of Fish and Game will no longer be planting them. Carefully measure, weigh and photograph trophy fish and send us pictures and information.

Ken Hopper caught some nice 15″ to 18″ kokane while trolling between Rose Island and the dam. He targeted 230′ of water trolling down 70′ to 90′. Pink hoochies w/ silver Vance’s Dodger and orange micro hoochie behind a watermelon Simon Wobbler did the trick.
Kokanee: Good. The kokanee bite has not been fast and furious but the fish that are being caught are some of the largest in the state. The average kokanee is 16″ and we have measured fish up to 19″ weighing over 2-pounds. As the water continues to drop and temperatures rise, the kokanee will move to deep water. Try trolling from 80-100′ to catch these chunky kokanee. Large dodgers and slingblades have been working well. Try using a Vance’s Dodger with a bladed hoochie to create commotion and draw strikes. Also a large slingblade with a slight bend will disrupt the kokanee and they will bite out of aggravation. Presentations that swing or wobble side-to-side will disperse water and be easier for the fish to locate. Apex and wiggle hoochie are both good choices. Before dropping your setup down, hold it near the side of the boat to find the right speed to get ample action. A short leader is recommended on both spinners and hoochie rigs. Scent is also very important and should be applied throughout the day. Stop by and pick up some dyed and scented corn on your way to the lake.
Bass: Fair. The water level continues to drop making the bass bite a little tougher. Most of the fish have pulled off the shoreline and are holding on deep water structure. During the summer heat it is best to fish early in the morning or late in the evening. The key to catching a handful of bass is locating the bait. The schools of shad will be in deep/cool water. The bass will be actively feeding and then shut off immediately. Catch them when they are in a feeding frenzy and then move once the bite dies and try to locate another productive area. Reaction baits and small swimbaits work well to find fish. Try using a small crankbait or an underspin fished through the bait. Switch to a small shad patterned worm on a dropshot to catch the fish that are not willing to chase. Some fish will stay near shallow water and feed on crawdads. A football jig is always a good choice. Or a bulky creature style soft plastic fished on a Wrecking Ball head will trigger strikes. PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE. Take photos and carefully release the fish back into to the lake to maintain a healthy fish population for generations to come.

Glory Hole Sports Big Fish of the Week goes to Trena John. She caught a nice 9-pound, 13-ounce catfish on chicken liver.
Catfish: Good. The catfish bite is picking up and many anglers are catching 6 to 10-pound fish. The cats will feed all day, but the best bite time is mornings, evenings and during the night. Try using frozen shad, anchovy or mackerel to coax them into biting. The catfish in New Melones will feed on shad and small sunfish just like a bass would. It is best to have a two pole stamp and give the fish multiple offerings. Try fishing a large chunk of frozen fish on one rod and fishing a single crawler/mallow combo on the other. Each year some of the largest fish are caught on small offerings.

Ken Ratihn caught a large 7.11-pound catfish while soaking Power Bait upriver.

Jeremy Clinkenbeard and David Homath of Sonora caught a whole bunch of crappie while fishing mini jigs during the day. Their biggest weighed 2-pounds and was caught in 15′ to 20′ of water.
Crappie: Good. The crappie are biting and can be caught during the day or at night under a submersible light. The crappie are holding in main lake pockets, coves and creek channels. Try fishing near standing timber and brush to locate the schools of crappie. A live minnow fished under a slip-float is a great way to catch them. Also try using small swimbaits, Beetle Spins and artificial minnow to catch them.

    • Report: Clear Lake, here comes August!

Amazing is all anyone can say. Last year we saw so many juvenile 1 pound fish early in the year everyone was hoping for things to come. Well, things to come are here. The number "willing" of 2-4 pound fish in the lake right now is nearly
unbelievable. Better yet, the big girls have not been shy either, and it should only get better in the coming month or so.

Putting the closing moves on July this weekend has been some of the best fishing anglers have seen in years, anywhere in the state. This harkens back to the crankbait bite we experienced in 08'/09' on the Delta. Yes, it is that good.

I'm pretty certain this is a bite we will be talking about for some summers to come, better yet it's a bite it doesn't take an expert to experience. Safe to say one can actually get bit on just about anything they want to throw. Deep crank, shallow crank, chatterbait, spinnerbait, senko, drop-shot, carolina rig, swimbait, buzz bait, etc etc etc.

My understanding is 25 lbs did not get a check today, which isn't all that unusual, except, IT's SUMMERTIME!

Anyone who hasn't been up and experienced this yet, you may want to re-consider. Call any of the tackle shops and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to send you in the right direction!

End of July yes there is algae .I think part of the reason the bite is so good is the stained water! Ive seen the lake way worse and never fished any areas that had the nasty algae smell. Some of the lake is worse than other parts.Any shad color spinnerbait will work. I personally like terminator with the large blade gold.My friend was throwing a golden shiner one yesterday.
