McClure Lake
-
Water Temp: 55
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I fished the lake on saturday, arrived late about 10 a.m I caught roughly about 17 bass
some were dinks the biggest pushed 3 1/2 lbs
I caught most of my fish using a grub (watermelon) color and a White fluke
the rest were caught on live bait crawdads and minnows. The water level went way up since last weekend so be careful driving lots of debree in the water.
anyone has any questions about fishing this lake you can reach me by emailing me at jacobsherman20@yahoo.com

Merced Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Went out for 2 hrs today between 10:00am and noon. Tossed spinnerbaits and Senkos for the whole time. Fished the North and South Lakes at the boat docks and piers. No takers, biters or bumpers...Saw an angler in a float tube in North Lake. He had as much luck as I did.
I noticed on the South Lake, the water at the DPW Pier is lower - as evidenced by the growing number of chopped tules sticking out of the water there.

San Justo Lake

Water Temp: 57
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: After being blanked for a few trips, John and I both finally caught some bass. John got three, from 1 1/2 to 3 lbs, on a modified, scented, black with red flake Brush Hog. He got two of his shallower than he had been fishing previously, but the largest did come from 20 feet deep. I got mine on a red spinner bait with copper Indiana blade, both from a weedbed located in a cove at about 12 feet. Lake has continued to rise from all the rain, but somehow remains relatively clear. We're beginning to see some beds in the shallows. With a bit more increase in water temperature, and some let up in the rain (will it ever?), there may be some spawning activity soon.
I made lots of casts with the Tiger Tube and Castaic Trout swimbaits, but had no action on them, even though there was a sizeable trout plant last Tuesday. The bigun's must be stuffed with all those stocked trout on the table.
City: MontereyTips: Others have had success with red crankbaits here, so I tried the red spinnerbait and it worked. The craws must have some red in them this time of year, so the tip is: use any color as long as it's red.

Trinity Lake
-
Water Temp: 46-48
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Thurs and Friday with clients. Fortunately, I had folks that were very enjoyable to spend the day with. I always look for something positive to report and I guess the highlight of both days was that it didn't RAIN!!!
The dozen or so fish that were caught over the course of 2 days of hard fishin were all caught suprisingly shallow. Almost all in 3-5'. After spending the winter chasing those critters in 30-50' it's a little hard to get used to. 90% of the time on Trinity, if you get in a good spot, you need to turn around and cast out toward the middle of the lake to be really successful. Right now is a good time for the "shore pounders" to hit this lake. The lake is rising rapidly, and as near as I can figure, the fish are munching on the newly submerged terrestrials and are shallower than I have ever seen them in 48 degree water. A couple of days of sunshine should really invigorate the fish (as well as myself) and the lake should be real hot.
City: WeavervilleTips: Rip.

Amador Lake

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: LOL! You had post-front conditions and lots of boat traffic and expect a great day of fishing? That's why they call it fishing and not catching.

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 52-54
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished all day Friday up Putah Creek. Started past the farm houses and caught several on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait. Also caught fish on crankbaits and rippin. No big fish, but up to 2.5 lbs. We also caught 3 trout on cranks. Stuck mostly to the reaction bite but also caught some on worms and hula grubs. Overall the bite has been really good lately, but you just have to search for the big fish. A lot of smallies on the bite right now.
City: Rohnert ParkTips: medium diving cranks in shad colors. chart/white blades. Try dark colors if using plastics.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Going to school in Davis. Wanted to go try Berryessa for the first time. Where is the best place to launch? Looks like a big lake, which parts of the lake are generally more productive for smallmouth (which I love)? Any advice appreciated!

California Delta
-
Water Temp: 57.5
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched from Sugar Bardge and fished from 7 to 2:30pm for a personal best. 9.5,6.5,6,4,4, for nearly a 30 lb bag. lots of other fish 3's and 2's. Fished 7" snekos and double wide sweet beavers with 5/0 hook. What a day!
City: san brunoTips: Look for fish staging and when you find them slow down and work the area.
-
Water Temp: 56
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Most of the delta right now looks like nestles quick.
Found some decent water caught around 10 fish biggest was 5lbs-6ozs, 3lbs, 3lbs-1oz, 2lbs-4ozs, several 1lb males. All in all a decent day. Fished rip baits. Succes to all
City: TracyTips: Threw suspending rip baits the fish just could not resist the action.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 51-53
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Another real nice trip for numbers but not for size. I guided this father-son team a few years ago on a night trip and "sonny" ruled with several big bass. Today was different - dad caught most of the bass and the biggest - but only around 4 lbs. He was hot! Numbers were good for us at 40 1/2 fish - the 1/2 being a crappie!! We fished several areas in the south end from 7am to 3pm. The wind eventually made fishing difficult but we caught fish 'til the end of the trip. Most bass were caught from 5 to 20 feet - on or around rock. A dropoff seemed to be necessary to get bigger bass. Only a few one pounders - most 2 to 3 lbs and about a dozen over 3. Our limit was a few ounces over 18 lbs. For ONCE - the rain cooperated - it started just after I took the boat out - my rainsuit is finally dry!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: Like everyone else, I am constantly thinking about how to approach the bass in this most unusual winter ever (the calendar says spring but trust me - it is not spring and the bass know it!). I have found rippin' and split-shotting small Berkley Power Worms has worked well. Yamamoto Kreature baits - color 221 - were excellent today. The jig bite has been surprisingly slow for me at Clear Lake lately, but good at other lakes. We slayed them at Amador yesterday on jigs! Maybe it's just my presentation. I found a ripbait that I hadn't used before with red, yellow, and other colors in it. Weird looking! I caught one on the first cast and about 10 others after that. The son caught a few rip fish on a Staycee ghost w/ chartreuse stripe. I think Senkos would have worked well with nice water color in the south end but we didn't throw any. Our best spots always featured deeper water close to the shoreline - especially if there was a dropoff. Docks and rock walls were good - especially with the split-shot worms. Green pumpkin worked well. Last week junebug was good - today they wouldn't look at it! No wonder bass guides can't sleep at night!!!

Folsom Lake

Report: I catch big bass today at lake Folsom. I use nightcrawler with bobber fishing for blue gill. I catch the fish near the bank off of salmon rd. I like the bass better then the blue gill, but my wife and kids do not.
City: South SacramentoTips: Scott do you have any good recipies for the bass?

Water Temp: 53-60
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: By the way, I'm not paid to do this. My good friend, Larry Hemphill met me at the lake and we had a pretty good day. We sarted in the back of Cat cove, where the water color was a little better, and Larry proceeded to go to work throwing a junebug deadringer, he stuck a couple nice fish in about 20ft. Then we fished around in there and picked up a few more on purple jigs and a chart./blue spinnerbait real shallow. I switched to a brown orange jig, Larry stayed with black and blue and we started looking for cleaner water in the backs of creeks. We ended up with 24 fish, including our best 5 going 33lb.9oz.. We had a 9-0, 7-11, 7-0, 5-3 and 4-11.
City: SacramentoTips: Slow down and look for fish staging in areas where they they will be spawning.

Anderson Lake
-
Water Temp: 58-61
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Lake was FULL and very MUDDY today (Thurs). Fishing was tough as I took my first skunk at Anderson this year. Tried everything, believe me. One little hit on a dropshot is the only action I had all day. Looked for crappie, also to no avail. A few other boaters indicated they'd caught a few small LM's (obviously better anglers than yours truly). They all reported using plastics. As an aside, just because there are only a few Anderson reports posted here recently, don't get the impression that folks aren't fishing there. There were approximately ten trailers in the parking lot today when I arrived at 10 a.m. A few skiers but most boats were seeking bites. Today's bonus: I saw a bald eagle winging its way east at very north end of the lake. Just plain majestic!
City: Santa ClaraTips: Maybe wait until the water clears up a bit. But then you might miss out. Good luck to all!

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 51-56
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I went out thursday and started out at the free launch, it was closed, so I put in at Pleasure Cove. The water was alot clearer there. I fished mostly the south end of the lake, caught about a half dozen one 3 lbs. the rest shakers. All largemouth no smalleys. Had a ball!
City: martinezTips: All my fish were with plastics off the bottom 15-20 feet
-
Water Temp: 52.4
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: got on the water about 10:30 a.m. launched out of spanish flat. fished putah creek for 2 smallies, one 2 3/4lbs. & the other a dink. missed a decent largemouth, that followed my spinnerbait to the boat! any luck from the tourney fisherman?
City: napaTips: slow roll a chartreuse colored spinnerbait w. a colorado/ diamond blade combo
-
Water Temp: 55-57
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Finally a break in the rain! Enjoyed my first outing to Berry this year. Got a late start. It did not help when I went around the horn to launch at Capell Cover to find it closed due to flooding. I was told by an B of Rec employee the ramp closes at 441.5 and the lake is at about 442.5. Well back to Markleys launched at 12 pm, ack! Caught average size spots right out of the gate at the southern most end of the lake. Bite lasted about 1 hour then dewindled the rest of the day. Caught all spots on Carolina Rig (should have tried old faithful dropshot, but I'm trying to fine tune C. Riggin.) Tried to get the bigger bite rippin/crankin later in the day, but only ended with one more average spot on a rip. Heard some did well droppin and dartin.
City: Elk GroveTips: Was unable to put in an honest day on the water and truely get a good pattern going, but most of the spots seemed to be in the back 1/2 of the coves.
