Report: I'm home sick for the California Delta. Today I competed in Camp Walkers (Daegu, South Korea) 2nd Annual Bass tournament. There were 30 entries and was bank fishing only. Jang Chuck Gi lake was the destination today. Rules were catch as many as you can and wiegh in your biggest 3 bass. First place was 8.5 lbs. with 3.9 big fish. Second place was 4.6 lbs. with 3.1 big. I came in third with 4.1 lbs. and big fish was 2.5 lbs. I had 9 bass cuaght for 20 bites. I used a California style/ Corolina rig a green punkin zoom lizard. The water was extremely clear, made me think of the California lakes back home like Pardee. It was cloudy all day with a front moving in.

      Water Temp: 49

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Friday it poured rain until about 3pm then started to let up so the boat guy Jessie and me (back of boat guy) headed to Redbud to launch.

Ran out to the rocks along Jago Bay and worked the docks with rip baits, different colors and depths. It was getting dark quick but Jessie hooked up a 2# fish that hit hard on a blue and white med dive rip. Fished a little more but it was getting dark quick so 1 fish was it we headed back.

Saturday was nice, no rain little wind. Started out the same spot with rips and spinner, and a little worms and baby brush hogs but not for too long, Jessie likes to fish fast.

Not much action. Late morning Jessie got into a few fish. We picked up and tried the north side of the first pipeline above Redbud. A guy was anchored on the sweet spot and we saw them drop shoting and bringing in fish. We didn't get too close and did get any hookups.

Early afternoon we moved to a spot just above Jago Bay where the "Rocks" marker is in the water. On the meter we could see the rockpile and again Jessie pulled fish off the rocks by casting towards a tree and ripping it back. First he got a 3+, then a few casts later in the same spot got a bigger fish 4+. Was it a male first defending a nest and a female second? Maybe, but the water temps were 48 degrees might not have been but when you hear of getting 2 fish, one smaller 2nd one bigger at the same spot it was just like that.

Of course it could have been just 2 fish.

Now mid afternoon we headed back to the southern point on Jago Bay and worked the shoreline heading down towards Cache Creek. We tried spinner baits, and swim baits, mostly slow, but agan Jessie caught fish on a rip, kind of white belly with a chart. back. He got one off the rocks and one by the docks.

Then we tried the island at the end of the lake and nothing. Headed back to the dock and it was a good day. Even if I didn't catch anything. Dang.

The water is really high with these late rains, and at the south end it is pretty clear. 2 weeks of sun and decent weather this place is going to pop big.

While we were loading up a guy down the street tried a burnout on his Harley, "vroom vroom pop pop" dead motor. Probably sucked a valve. We laughed, bet he didn't.

      ps: No leopard sharks caught...
      City: Oakland

Tips: The trip cost me over $5000. Wife let me go fishing on our 15th anniversary weekend. Stopped in St. Helena for a little diamond thingy on the way back.

Any heres my report for the 1apr06
Hit the lake around 930 Im not sure anyway fished with my friends matt and jeff from matts boat. Started some what slow with just a couple small ones. Cought and then lost a fish that would poribably have been a nice runner for the lake reccord on a crank bait. Kept fishing my buddy lost another big one on a senko we cought a few more fish around 4lbs and smaller and called it a day
      City: Pittsburg

Tips: Fish are still in prespawn mode crusing out deeper on flats and near the steeper banks not too many fish cought right on the shore.

Report: I fished the lake on Saturday and caught about 18 bass using live crawdads again. For all the anglers that use live bait I have bad news the marina isnt going to be selling anymore live minnows I dont know why. Your best choice will have to be in snelling at A1 bait and tackle
My buddy caught a 9lb channel cat by accident on a crawdad

Fished damn, Long Gultch, Carson Cove. Buddy did get one hit at the tires near marina - nightcrawler.

Report: Hmmm...Would have sworn that on ESPN Bass Center last weekend it was reported that the IGFA WOULD allow a foul hooked fish to be considered for a world record as long as it was determined that it was not intentional. Now, California on the other hand does not allow a foul hooked fish to be considered for a world record so that in itself disqualifies their entry. However, I firmly believe, obviously since they put her back, that these fishermen absolutely DID NOT intentionally foul hook that fish. Had California regulations been different, I think they had EVERY right to take that fish to the dock, ideally not on a stringer but in some sort of huge ice chest with a battery operated aeroator to keep her alive which I believe they should have already had on the boat by sparing one of the three fishermen to make room for that pseudo-live well, then have it weighed on certified scales, then put on display at Bass Pro Shops for the rest of the bass fishing world to marvel at. I honestly believe that by putting that fish back and bringing such national attention to that lake, that many of the trophy fish as well as that fish may now be yanked out of those waters by those who could care less about the longevity of those beautiful gentle giants. I do not believe for one minute that they cheated in any way, shape, or form. It was simply bad luck that she ended up foul hooked. It should not discredit those fishermen in any way. They are accredited trophy bass fishermen and I STILL think that they should have had it weighed on certified scales and let the IFGA make the determination as to whether or not they should be recognized as the new world record holders. I think the only wrong thing they did was not get her properly certified and measured. I too am a big proponent of catch and release, but I would have certainly put that jig hook in her top lip and gone from there.....she would have been far better off safe in an aquarium at Bass Pro Shops than at the mercy of some ditch bank Okie with total disregard for those fish.

Report: Another great day before a storm. Fished all over the lake. Did good around the swim area with sinkos (watermelon/ blk flake). Nothing spectacular, lots of 12"-15" fish. Did real well on the south side of lake around the rock piles with steep drop offs. Caught most of my fish on a Who's frog 3/8oz jig with 208 trailer in about 15' of water. Also did well in creek channels at 10-15' deep. Good luck.
      City: Fresno

Tips: Watermelon colors are working great. Fish slow!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took my 9 yr.old son out today for a while...he skunked me.Obviously shared too much of my Bass fishing info with him.He landed a 6 lb. 5 oz. and a 4 lb. 13. oz both on spinnerbaits.Same flats I landed a 9 lb. a week ago. These fish a fat with eggs. My son is making me very proud...love to see young kids taking an interest in throwing jigs and spinnerbaits rather than just dunkin' bait for trout.
      City: Antioch

Tips: Bass are hangin on ledges just bordering flats...ready to spawn.Try jerk baits and sl owly crawling spinnerbaits along ledges.I've just been informed we need to throw carolina rigged lizzards next time out. This kid reads too many of my magazines! Best of luck!

      Water Temp: 46

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Took 3 gents from Sac out today and I'll have to say they were some of the toughest clients in terms of sticking with it on a nasty day I've ever had in my boat. The wind blew, it rained cats and dogs, and the rain occasionally had lumps in it. Fortunately they were rewarded with a pretty good day of fishing. First cast of the day yielded a 5.40 Black and about the last cast of the day a 5.0 Smallie. In between were about 15 other fish which under the conditions is a pretty good day. Most fish were taken on Gitzits fished real slow, but the smallie came on a rip-bait. It was the first shallow reaction bite we've had this year, just the beginning of great times to come.
      City: Weaverville

Tips: The bigger fish appear to have moved off the deep tailings into much shallower water but I'll have to continue to try them for another few trips. All the fish were caught in less than 20' and some, including the 2 best ones were in 10' or less. Now if the weather will only cooperate a little, (they're predicting 2-4" of snow tonite) we can really have some fun.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Haven't been fishing in forever, so I thought I'd come here after talking To Larry Hemphill on Wed. night. He told me the jig bite was pretty good and he was right. I started with a BLADE-RUNNER 1/2oz. rattle jig with a MAD MAN trailer and picked up 5 bass to 5lb. at my first stop by the spill way in 2 to 5ft. of water. Then I started fishing the sides of points and backs of creeks with a black and blue rattle jig and picked up another 15 fish. most of them were 3 to 4lb. with a couple close to 7lbs.. All shallow fish. I even saw some males on beds in the back of some coves but left them alone.
      City: Sacramento

Tips: Dark colored rattle jigs, shake them as soon as they get to the bottom and work them down to about 10ft.

      Water Temp: 53-55

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Well. my report is different than the previous one. Yesterday (Thurs) I guided a fellow that had never bass fished before. Another front was clearing out so I hoped for the best. Was I ever in for a surprise - the fishing was great! We started about noon in Cat Cove. I had him rigged with a Zoom black/grape Dead Ringer - good chice of color. He hooked a 2 to 3 pounder on the first cast and I am thinking - "lose it, lose it"! Bad luck to land a bass on the first cast. He lost it!! Soon he had his first bass - about 14 inches. His second was bigger and the THIRD bass of his life was 4 lbs 2 oz - a new convert to the sport!!!!! He caught several and lost several - still needs to work on his hookset. I don't think he will ever trout fish again. I, too, did well - catching several bass from 4 to 6 lbs 1 oz. Our limit was over 23 lbs. I was using a black/purple/blue Rattlin' Weapon jig with a #157 Yamamoto grub nearly the whole trip. I also caught a few on Berkley 10" Power Worms. Many quality bass were in 2 to 6 feet of water in the afternoon. We found them all over - points, backs of coves, walls, didn't matter. I promised him and hour or two of night fishing and we got lots of bass but only one over 4 lbs. He loved it!! We wound up with 24 bass and after he left I fished one more spot and caught one more - the bite died. I slept in my truck and fished a little this morning but only caught 4 bass to 3 lbs. No jig bite for me in the morning.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Though we didn't hook any huge bass, the quality was good - really only one or two small males. Most of the bass were on or near points - even in coves, especially ones with rock or brush. The lake is as high as I have ever seen it. With tomorrow probably setting a record for March rainfall, the bass are probably as confused as some anglers are. Move around until you can find the bass and remember to use real bright or real dark colors for contrast in the dirty water.

Report: Tried everything most of the day-but no results. I used to visit this lake quite a bit- but the last few years I have not been that sucessful. A lot of bucks to get skunked. Hope others have more luck than me!

      Tips: Go to the Delta!

      Water Temp: 50

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: We decided to brave the weather and fish Clear Lake today regardless of the fact that the Leopard Sharks may have eaten all the bass! We found that there still are some bass in the lake as well as a ton of shad floating everywhere! As soon as we found water without shad everywhere, we also found bass! We fished from 6:00am until 1:30pm with rain, wind and about 6 other boats on the lake......too much fun!
      City: Sacramento

Tips: Save everyones time and don't post trash on here. Not all of us want to read garbage about Leopard Sharks! 6" worms were the ticket, no jig or rip bait bite at all today! Tight lines everyone!!!!
