Folsom Lake

Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Water clarity depends on location. Both arms are muddy, however the main body was clear last Friday. Two of us fished from 12 noon till 4 pm and bairly missed the afternoon storm. Two fish both on 1/2 oz hula grubs in 20 foot of water, one smallmouth and one spot. Nothin on rip baits, blades, or crank baits.
City: CarmichaelTips: We spent most of our trip in muddy water fishing shallow in the new run off from the rain. Nata, or at least we did not find em. Dock talk was the North fork, ripping with loooong pauses. Did not try drop shotting or spooning. Rumor has it that high teens won the turkey shoot on the 2nd. I guess they gotta eat sometime. I also fished a trout colored 12 inch swimbait on the main body, sooner or later...

Water Temp: 52.1
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: a few breaks in the clouds suckered me into going and I knew I would feeze solid. In at Packers at 0700, the lake has come up some 16ft since the 24th and now stands at 87.5 ft down, air temp was 37 with a slight push out of the south, was going to run up the McCloud but stopped on some stuff outside Packers to toss a new worm rig after re-rigging everything because of some Xmas presents. I put on an MGM eel in #66 and tossed it in at the bank and get bit on the second cast with about a 1.6 that grabbed it on the way down, re-rig and go in again with the same worm and missed one in about 10ft that bit the worm in half. Bait up again and thorw a little further down the bank and the bait just stopped after going in so i reel up slowly and feel some weight and stick what turns out to be a good one. it's heavy and rips line off my reel for about 30 ft and pumps the rod hard. I get it up and in and it goes 5.24 lbs and I ain't got anymore of these eels. DANG! bolt things down and put this fish in the box to see how it is and plan to fizz it later if need be, run for the upper sac and get on a pile of rocks up in the gooseneck that just went under and was about 12 down, got six off of it and 3 over 2lbs on the MGM Hoo-dun-it in three different colors, the #22,66,109. Went baack south a bit near Sac Point and stuck another good one at 2.65 on the #35. everything I am towing is working and I am wondering why I can't do this when the money is on the table. Head back in around 1130 and stop and get the smallest of the 2's on a point inside packers and end up with 14.54 and 11 fish total. Got snowed on a bit up in the gooseneck and my hands feel like they are incased in ice. Got a phot of the smallest and the biggest and on home. Great day for me, maybe someday I can actually get a check doing this. (probably not)
City: ReddingTips: The only hdi that didn't produce today was the smoke blue but then again I only fished it for about 10 minutes. The big fish today was my first over 5lbs on a worm but then again I don't throw worms much.

Shadow Cliffs Lake

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: there are buttloads of crawdads in the main lake as well as the arroyo, the trick is to match the color because they change when they molt and that happens during specific times of the year.

City: san anselmoTips: Downsize! Use 6-8lb flourocarbon and small worm hooks withh small worms on deep structure.

Report: Fished from 2pm to 4:30pm in South Fork. I hit rocky points and steep drop-offs with drop-shot, spoons and jigs. One good strike with a spoon. Otherwise, 'twas about as slow as I suspected. Did stay dry, though.
City: SacramentoTips: I wish I had a good tip, I NEVER have any luck on Folsom.

Water Temp: 51.9
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went out to get into some stripers. Super windy saturday after the rain stopped...went out alone and did not feel safe making any long runs from B&W so I stayed in the general area. Started throwing a white bucktail jig with a fluke as a trailer...no takers or followers. Switched to a chrome/black 1oz rattle trap....nada. Picked up a red speed trap and hooked a 5-7lb salmon on the 2nd cast. Worked my way to tower park and found some stripers working bait on the surface. First cast with the rattle trap produced a 19in striper. I stayed in the area for the next 2 hours and caught 4 stripers with the largest going about 8lbs.
City: FairfieldTips: If you catch one keep working the area as I found them to travel only about 25-50 yards up and down one bank. The bank was an inside bend and they had bait pinned up near the bank.

Water Temp: high 40's- low
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: present ramp and road conditions: I-5 has re-opened at Fawndale, carry chains, Jones Valley road work slowed by heavy weather and it is not likely to be opened by Jan 1st as predicted, contact the Hidden Valley Market for up to the minute info after New Years day(530-275-1102)When it is opened watch out for slick spots where there is no pavement, that work won't be completed for some time, the Redding Bassers turkey shoot scheduled out of Jones Valley for 1-8-05 may be changed to a different location. You are welcome to use the Silverthorn ramp now and I have heard that they are not charging a ramp/parking fee(530)275-1571 or 800-332-3044.
the lake is 91.86 ft down, a bit murky and you can expect some debris especially over in the lower and mid Pit Arm. Centmudi, Packers and Sugarloaf are all 2 lanes With floats in place, The best access with the shortest walk up and down is Sugarloaf at the north end of the Sac arm, All other Shasta Rec ramps are high and dry. With I-5 closures only Centimudi is open unless you want to chain up your rig and boat trailer.(depending on conditions, The CHP will sometimes let you through to Bridge Bay but don't count on it) 7 inches of rain so far at my house(600 ft )elevation and at least double that on the lake with another major blast scheduled late Wednesday through Thursday.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Went out throwing jigs and sencos around raccoon pt. Dang the bass here are just non existant. I didnt see any get any bites or nothing for the first 2 hours. Took off and went into a cove around the corner and saw a toad sunning herself on the top part of the water. I brought out a 6 inch senco and threw it about 15 feet to the left of her softly so it wouldnt make a big splash. as soon as the worm hit the water this fish just slowly sunk out of site. I was patient not to move the bait or my self for what I thought was the longest time. Then I looked and saw 3 more monsters in the same place the first one was. These huge fish were schooling together like it was a prespawn march day. No luck on the senco and never caught a fish but I sure saw some nice ones.

Del Valle Lake

Water Temp: 49-51
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Guide trip today with Nick Gorman and Alex Rosales both of Redwood City..Alex had never bass fished before and did a good job with a dozen or so fish..We had a front moving in that had the fish spread out but these guys hung in there and caught there share. They boated 33 bass with a nice nice 5lber for Nick and another 20 or so being nice solid keepers with Smallies mixed in. A lot more short fish on this day than normal. Drop shotting and dartheads caught fish. 082 Keeper on a dart head will get bit as will 4 and 6" strait tail robo baits on a the dropshot..We stayed in the 40ft range and did catch one in 60. If you want to go and learn some deep water fishing that you can apply to any of the motherload lakes now is the time.
City: San JoseTips: Bait is schooled up and bass are near in most cases..

San Justo Lake
-
Water Temp: 50 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the morning again with son, John. Tough bite today. Cloudy, overcast conditions with some wind from south (about 10 mph), but not enough to disrupt fishing.
Caught one 1 1/2 lb bass on a black-with-red craw trailer twin-spin with black blades (chosen to imitate the large black/red crawfish in this lake.) Also, had some hits but no hook-ups on a brown jig with green-pumpkin Yum craw trailer (chosen to imitate the smaller brown/green craws also in this lake.)
Kudos and thanks to guide Doug Clarke for his unselfish efforts in planting Christmas tree bundles to provide more structure for this otherwise mostly flat-bottomed lake. Doug continued his efforts with two more boatloads of trees today. It's a time-consuming process and Doug gvies up fishing time to make these additions to the lake which have already started producing larger bass.
Again, thanks, Doug, we appreciate your efforts.
City: MontereyTips: The lake has risen some very recently, apparently due to water being pumped into it from San Luis Reservoir. We thought that might bring the fish shallow, but we couldn't get them to bite in the shallow zone, even on windy, rocky banks. The fish caught, and hits received, came from 8-10 foot depths along rocky banks. It appears almost all the weeds are dying...all you bring up are brown stalks. I'd continue to avoid the former submerged weed locations just off-shore. I'd look for the fish out deeper, maybe even suspended out in the main lake basin where there should be plentiful oxygen.
