Happenings Here in East County ….
Ultimate Frog Challenge Just a couple weeks away For 13 years the Frog Tournament has been the marquee event for bass anglers that enjoy summertime topwater fishing. The Ultimate Frog Challenge has evolved into what anglers have said they always wanted: the opportunity to fish a Frogs ONLY event – with ANY BRAND OF TOP WATER FROG they choose! Pro Z Frogs has jumped into the Ultimate Frog Challenge - "Battle of the Frogs" event for this weekend, and Dan's Delta Outdoors in Oakley, now is offering a $250 bounty for the Pro or Am team that wins the event - that purchased a Pro Z Frog from Dan's Delta Outdoors prior to the event!
Isleton Fishing Report
Looked for a few anxious Salmon anglers while there were a few looking didn’’t get any successful Salmon reports Although as the temperatures stabilized this week and boat traffic No Kings yet. Smallmouth are a great target species this time of year that can help you beat the summer doldrums . Wadda Jigs, and Plastics are good choices here for the hard fighting smallies..
Walnut Grove Fishing Report
The Sacramento Turning Basin is really the unsung hero here as there continues to be stripes caught there by lure tossers. Hair Jigs and small shad patterns are the top choices here as well. Bank anglers Pile worms and cut baits prevail. Few Stripes are in the area as anglers recover still around as temperatures return more seasonable in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove.
Discovery Bay Fishing Report
A few anglers are still scoring schoolie sized stripers in the Indian Creek side. Crankbaits are scoring bass on the main runway rock walls. Bass pushing the 4 to 6 mark are showing on occasion Vicious Frogs and R2Sea BullyWa II are top Frogs the nod here. While out preparing for the upcoming ULTIMATE FROG TOURNAMENT in the Discovery Bay area, I was fishing sparse tules on the down current side of a point of the out going tide, when this 9.5lbs bass smacked a white SAVAGE GEAR 3D Hollow Belly Frog. I was using a OKUMA TCS 7' 3" Frog Rod paired OKUMA TCS HELIOS Real spooled 65lb VICIOUS Fishing line With the wind Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits getting hammered! Megastrike Buzz baits getting a lot of attention. Wadda Jig bite on points is also decent!
West Delta Fishing Report
Anglers in search of stripers are finding the bite to be tough but still those who stick with it are getting small keepers on occasion from both boat and bank. From as far west as Honker Bay to the Broad Slough and Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Anchovies and Sardines ae finding fun action. Sturgeon success has come on the outgoing tide with pile worms, eel and roe. Broad Slough, Bouy 1 and Pittsburg PG&E are good bets. Not great by any means but a fun way to spend the Hot summer evenings. Bass Bite stays solid in the Break and surrounding cuts. Punching jigs and Whopper Ploppers rocking the bass. Water Temp: 74 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched out of Big Break with fishing newbie to the Delta—Kane from Australia— headed into Dutch slough. The weather forecast indicated small craft advisory but the winds were surprisingly mild until about 2PM. The jig bite was on, fished with swim jig with black and blue flapping hog trailer in about 8 feet of water. Caught most of the outside the weed and vegetation line. Biggest was about 2 pounds. Caught about 20 for the day, about 10 on jigs (larger fish) and a number of smaller on wacky rigged Stick-O baits in black/red flake color. Headed back in around 2PM and there were 2 foot rollers in the main channel leading back to the marina.
Tips: I typically follow the marine weather warnings to a tee. The small craft warning, in place first thing in the morning made no sense when the wind reports from Big Break was less than 5 knots. The flag was blowing at the marina but there were no white caps in the main channel so we took off and fished wind protected places. But once the wind started to get more significant we headed back. Take each wave one at a time.

Del Valle Fishing Report
The weather this week has been beautiful with average temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s. . The two best species of fish to try and target would be catfish or striped bass. The Catfish bite is picking up with many anglers catching them from 2-8 lbs. As the water warms up they are getting active. The best baits have been chicken livers, anchovies, mackerel and sardines. If you target the catfish, look for areas with cover, downed trees, and grassy areas with some place for them to hide. Most of the catfish that that are being caught have been in shallow water. The hot bite this week is Striped Bass. Most anglers have been catching them out towards the dam off of points, but also in the lower narrows along the beaches. Best baits to use would be Anchovies, Chicken Liver, or Sardines. If you like to throw lures, I would recommend jerk baits (Yo-Zuri, Lucky Craft, Etc.) or jigs (chatterbaits, hair raizers, etc.).

Water Temp: 80s
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the PM yesterday from 5 to dark. The first thing I noticed was how bad the clarity was. It's maybe 1' in most places. The pleasure boaters and increased traffic from the holiday have it stirred up bad.
I threw topwater but with the clarity being what it is you'd have to make the perfect cast on the right fish for him to even have a chance at it.
I managed to find a few on a worm and a few on a square bill but nothing over 2lbs.
Until the boat pressure subsides and the moon phase changes its going to be tough fishing during the day.

Water Temp: 70
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished out of Russo Marina Yesterday- was on the water around 7:30 incoming tide. Fished the tues outside the marina using topwater frogs, had a couple of blow ups on a Ribbet rigged with a single hook. No takers. Caught one 2 pound LMB along the sea wall using a red/yellow crankbait. Moved across the marina but the tide was too low, bugs were everywhere, threw a frog for a while and had one taker but no connection. Moved into the major water by Little Franks and was hitting everything from dinks to 3 pounders using a jib weighted flappin' hog, and wacky rigged 5 inch Sticko from BPS. My buddy and I did about 3 runs down the same stretch and caught about 30+ fish between 10AM and 2PM. It wasn't that windy yesterday. The big boats were creating a little wave havoc as they were enroute to Mildred for the 4th of July. Sheriff's were out there too checking for licensing and boater safety.
Tips: Throw everything at 'em.

Anglers are also catching them on shallow to mid running crank baits. Trout has slowed down due to the warm weather, most anglers are catching them on either garlic or colored Power Bait or nightcrawlers.

Water Temp: 65-75
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Hi all.... I got out a couple more times this holiday weekend. The water is different in areas that I fished, from super clear and warm, to stained like tea, to muddy and cold. Choose your flavor right ? Well the flavor of the week for me was all but the cold muddy stuff. Caught fish on top water in the morning, then tried to get the frog working, I got a couple blowups but nothing to speak of. Spinner baits and other bluegill colored baits did well. Caught a good number of fish, but no toads. Thanks to all the soldiers, we will never forget your sacrifice.
Tips: Go fishing

Rio Vista Fishing Report
Warm seasonable weather ahead finally for Holiday anglers, and forecast to stay stable. Shore bound anglers are scoring both species. The best place to score a striped bass or sturgeon remains Sandy Beach and the area of the Power Lines, use Sardines or Shad. Trolling is scoring many limits stripers and occasionally, a 10-12 pounder caught. Savage Prey and P-line Angry Eye lures are key for the trolling anglers.
Walnut Grove Fishing Report
Trolling Savage Prey baits colors 8 to 10 foot deep is key as the spring push continues. The Dirty “D” is clearing its name and conditions are improving for Black Bass in the area. Spinnerbaits and Swim jigs are working in the Hog Area. Bank anglers tossing shad and Sardines prevail for an occasional Striper those looking for bigger bites. Drifting live baits for stripers cracking the 10 pound plus keeps anglers smiling..
Central Delta Fishing Report
Most Blackie anglers are sticking with 3/4oz Jigs and Rage Swimmer baits paired with Fatsack Swim Jigs, Wind and overcast this weekend slow rolling Fatsack Tackle blades and Strike King square bills searching ledges near sparse tulle flats. Larger Stripers had another cameo appearance this week yet it was very brief. Crappie and Bluegill also had a improvement this week.
Frank’s Tract Fishing Report
After being beat up by crazy winds for a week, we some of the best water conditions of the year. Black bass bite is at a consistent yet, tougher than normal bite. Hematoma Beavers on over cast days also working well. We are seeing a few big Black Bass with ¾ ounce Jigs. Others looking to score are starting to crank Chartreuse Shad 6th Sense baits and DDO custom Craws are solid options.
West Delta Fishing Report
The stripers are here anchovies and sardines in many areas for bank anglers, Antioch Pier and along Sherman Island rd. Stripes to 28 pounds have grabbed baits . Trollers it’s getting started on both sides with Red Barn being the top choice, if they aren’t there move to the Eddo’s Side. Chartreuse patterns are the best bet.
Contra Loma Fishing Report
Continues as one of the best local bets! Try fishing for catfish at Channel Point, Loma Island or from a boat with nightcrawlers or chicken liver. Trout are biting on nightcrawlers at Channel Point, near the swim area, or from a boat. Black bass fishing has been good again this week, biting on artificial baits/lures or nightcrawlers anywhere around the lake. Try fishing for crappie or bluegill with jigs or worms at the boat ramp area, Loma Island or Channel Point area.
Los Vaqueros Fishing Report
The Best bet is fishing with cut baits with all the hungry small stripers around. Trout are being caught in South Cove and Oak Point as well as Peninsula Cove. The baits of choice for shore anglers is garlic scented PowerBaits, nightcrawlers or Kastmasters. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. With the continuing plants, trout fishing has been very good with more limits being caught from all around the reservoir.
Del Valle Fishing Report
Trout has slowed down due to the warm weather, most anglers are catching them on either garlic or colored Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Anglers have been catching trout in the deeper waters, as the fish are staying down at depths of 15-20 feet. Black bass are hitting pretty good. Find fallen trees, weed beds or the tulle patches. We would recommend throwing either a weedless senko or artificial crawdads on a ½- to a 1-oz football jighead. Anglers are also catching them on shallow to mid running crank baits.

Many anglers are picking up tray baits (Herring and Anchovies) and heading to the Alameda rock wall and the Emeryville areas for Some Big Halibut! Along with the Halibut many stripes are showing as well.

Water Temp: 62-72
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Hi all...Got out on Saturday from Orwood, headed to Mildred to have some fun. Every spot had 2 boats on it. I saw alot of spooked fish, the pressure must be intense on the fish while they nest. So off I went ....to some punching honey hole close by. Picked up some aggressive fish there, then moved back south to check some other warm water, MISTAKE....the boat traffic was insane !!! I had to go to places where ski boats just don't know about, I found some cheese and caught fish right away...fished till past midnight listening to the frogs sing their songs. It's only gonna get better with the next moon phase. Have fun all !
Tips: Check your headlamp batteries.....lol

Water Temp: 64/72
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Hi all... I have been out multiple times in the last few weeks. It has been quite the adventure to say the least. The fish are spawning all over the river.... some places have crystal clear water, most places have very dirty water. (Which I believe is from all the farms moving water in and out ??? Can anyone confirm that ??) Well anyways, I am catching some quality fish on northeast side of the river. Where ever I can find decent visibility seems to produce well, plus I can see what I'm targeting. Try topwater early, then go with your top 5 go-getters....good luck and have FUN !!!
Tips: Avoid the crowd if you can....FLW everywhere....

Water Temp: 60
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at Rivers End targeting Italian slough in the AM. Fished thoroughly shallow hydrilla and rip rap with jigs and sweet beavers, switched to orange lip-less and finally caught one on a senko up shallow. He didn't bite it very well, even with a good hook set, he flew off my line before I could land him in the boat. Throughout the rest of the day, I did get some very subtle bites up shallow at high tide, small ticks as if they were just curious, definitely NOT hungry. I couldn't see any beds, but judging by blood around their mouths and tails, these fish were making a bed.
Went into Vic canal and caught one more small male up shallow. Staging phase most definitely as I saw fish on sonar down deep, but they were not interested in anything except just waiting for the males to finish the nest,
Although it wasn't a productive day, I was excited to piece together the puzzle and hopefully this new moon will entice the spawn!Tips: Wait a few day, let the water warm up a bit
