    Water Temp: 48-51

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Launched out of Orwood, weather was great, boat ran fine. Got to Disco-fished for 2hrs there. Water was pretty murky, 48 deg. 10" visibility. It was so weird, the weather was great, warmed to 51 deg. We thought the fish would come on , nada, not even a bite. We dropshotted disco, pulled plastics, and rattle traps. Headed towards Holland, and the same , hit some cuts, and near the Old/ River RR. Slough. Nothing, not even marking fish or bait. Talked to other boaters, and not a fish(not even a striper). Hmmm, can spring get here any faster. On the otherhand, everything is running great. I am happy.

    Water Temp: mid 40's

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: My first chance to try a Headsokz that I bought at the Sacramento ISE. It was great -- kept my face and neck warm. Hadn't fish in almost a month. Went for stripers. Had only 3 hits in 6 hours of fishing -- landed 2 small keeper stripers (19 inches) and 1 shaker. Caught them at a pump that was discharging water into the Mokelumne.
    City: Dixon

Tips: Used 3/4 oz shad colored Rat L Trap. Water was muddier on the San Joaquin with a lot more debris floating in the river. Be careful out there -- fog in the morning plus the junk in the water. In the afternoon, we saw part of a dock floating down the river that we didn't see in the morning fog.

    Water Temp: Cold!!!!

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished for 3 hours before dark. Found decent action for a good grade of fish on senko type baits in 8-10 feet of water. Ended up with 11 fish to 4 pounds. Tried to find other patterns but the slower the bait the more the bites!
    City: Vallejo

Tips: Fish slow!! Heavy line, bigger baits are key. Fish the holes in the hydrilla. Any type of attractant such as smelly jelly seems to be the key for hte lethargic fish. Good fishin to all!!

Report: launched out of Russos, fished the tract then over to old river mouth, then into rock slough, then back to the tract....NOTHING ALL DAY! :(
fished blk/blu jigs with robo craw trailers. T-Rigged just about everything, drop shot Robo FX 6in worms and lipless cranks..seemed like it was slow for most. talked to a few anglers nothing with them either. I fished out of Orwood on saturday the 14th and stuck a 3.5lber on a lipless crank in rock slough working the shorelines. for my first and only fish of 2006 (Yet) seems like they are being caught by the other reports. Thats Fishing..

Tips: Look for rock points and summerged grass beds...but that didnt help me very much this trip. Watch out for Debris! :)

    Water Temp: 50-51

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: First trip of the new year (last sun) started off meeting my partner at the ramp expecting him to bring his boat and he expecting me to bring mine. hmmmmmmm.. An hour later we launched to very high, muddy, debris filled water down south. Poked around some usual winter spots and was greated w my first fish of 06', a healthy girl just under 6lbs on a drop shot. Practiced again tue morn and fri and found two more areas down south holding fish, lots of fish...heh heh...

Today we fished the Hook tourney. Started by flipping blk/blu jigs, the fish were holding very tight to vertical wood and a fast falling bait was the ticket. First bite came from a 5 1/2 that wanted to rip my arm off when she bit, nice.. Picked up a few more decent keepers on this pattern. Mid morn we switched gears and drop shotted #S-20 worms in the grass @ our second spot, shaking aggressively then letting em sit still,, filled out our limit but still had 3 14inchers we wated to cull. Off to our third stop around noon, a rocky area. Using both the blk/blu jig and the #S-20 drop shot we tossed up to the bank and S-L-O-W-L-Y dragged the baits, again w long pauses. Culled out four and my partner stuck a nice 5# on the worm. Ended up w 22 1/2lbs and finished in the runner-up spot... winners had 25lbs. YEAH, in JANUARY !

Tips: All our fish were in less than 5 feet of water.

    Water Temp: 47.6 - 50.4

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished today with Guyle Stenart of San Ramon. Took off this morning under bluebird skies and calm winds. While leaving the marina I explained to Guyle we were in fer a tough day today with this high pressure system right after yesterday's storm. But since we were in the full moon window, we could expect a few quality fish, but not many. We boated a total of 7 fish today, all keepers, two were only about 13.5 inches, the other five all quality fish with the biggest going 7 pounds 1 oz. Jig bite was very slow this morning and we manage our two biggest fish early. Both came on a brown jig-n-pig in about 12 foot of water on barren rock banks. From 11a on, we bounced around several dead end sloughs and tossed Zippers catching two 3.5 pounders and the two 13 inchers. Bites were far and few between today. At one point I began explaining to Guyle that typically, under these conditions of a post frontal high pressure, it is very common for tha bite to fall off like it did and sometimes the only way to consistantly put fish in the boat is to chuck and wind a 7A Red Bomber all day. Many torunaments on the River are won like this under post front high pressure days. I reached in my rod locker, crabbed my cranking stick and proceeded ta cath a 4 pounder on my very first cast in about 9 foot of water outside a deep weedline on a rock levee bank. Ironically, never caught another fish on the crankbait, but the point was driven home. Amazing how that works! HAR! Even with the very tough conditions, our best five fish went over 22 pounds.
    City: Oakley

Tips: The bite is very good on the river right now. If ya concentrate on areas with deep water and stick to what I consider big fish, high percentage, winter time baits, a 1/2oz Jig-n-pig, 6" Zipper and a 7A Red Bomber, there are many quality fish to be caught. Fish methondically covering lots of strike zone water(8-14'). Git yer boat off the heads of the fish and put that trolling motor on as low a speed as you can stand! Better yet, turn it off.

Report: wow tough tourney our small club had sat . we had 23 fisherman and 17 got skunked.. winner had one fish a 8.5 and man was it cold.. was surprised there was no fog or wind on the water either friday or saturday .. my partner got three stripers on a rattle trap about 5 lbs and then switched to a jig and on the first cast caught a 10 lb striper. we fished victoria...woodward...disco bay and sandmound in addition to around orwood.. no blackies not even a dink. that seemed to be the norm for our club.. if we had it with us we tried it ....NADA.. water was really high and dirty. down south they must have been pumping because flow was about the strongest i've seen it in long time ..big fish was caught on a worm in italian ..

    Water Temp: 48

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Angler's Choice tourn. out of Orwood today.Probably around 30 boats. Tough bite, we only had one fish and my partner Gabe got it on a rattle trap. I fished jigs, senko, and zipper worms without even a bump.Winning weight was around 17 lbs for 4 fish then it dropped off quick with alot of teams blanking. Our only fish came from Whites where the water was a little cleaner and a tad bit warmer, around 50. Rained off and on , windy and I wish my Fish Heads mask had gotten here this week. The rain stings at 60 mph. Oh well, Spring is a commin.
    City: Carmichael

Tips: We did get a quick limit of 8 to 12 lb Strippers early which made for groceries. Rattle traps, spinner bait and a swim bait got those on the out going tide around 8 am. Wish I had a pattern, but not today. The weather changed today by the hour. Beautiful rainbows were everywhere.

Report: Fished tourny out of Tracy Oasis today. No doubt about it, the bite was tuff for all competing. My partner Cliff and I had 3 fish for 8.30 pounds. Enough for second place. First was in the 10s. All in all, had a great day on the water, ever with the wind and rain.
    City: Tracy

Tips: Fish caught on black and red jigs from 10 feet and deeper, light currant and points. Did not find any fish to hit blades or cranks. Hope for early spring.

    Water Temp: 50-54

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished today with Ronnie Vanairsdale of Oakley. We were met with an absolute gorgeous winter day. Ronnie was looking for some jig tips and a better understanding of how to approach fishing deeper in the winter. Tossing brown jigs and Robo Zippers we boated 15 keeers from 3lbs to 9lb 3oz. And we probably had another dozen good fish come unbuttoned today or short strike our baits. Our best five for the day went 25+ pounds. Never got bit using cranks, ripbaits or blades. Most all of our fish came from 6-16 foot of water, either on baren rocky banks or in submerged grass beds. Absolutely awesome winter day on the river!
    City: Oakley

Tips: Pattern 1 - Brown Jig-n-pigs on the deep rock banks, retrieved with short, hop/pop cadence with no stopping to the boat.

Pattern 2 - Texas rigged Zippers on a 5/16th pegged bullet weight with a red bead, slowly pulled through the grass with no stopping to the boat.

Boat positioning is critical, stay off the top of the fish, use the t-motor as little as possible and cover every inch of bottom that ya can. Pick an area and fish it very thouroughly, the fish were grouped up, so when ya catch em, make repeated passed through your areas.
