    Water Temp: 52-56

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Started out fishin last Thursday in the back of a dead end slough, normally a great winter time spot fer me the last couple of years. I was hell bent on catchin some fish in the AM, as I haven't had any success doing so till after 11:00a since early December. Thursday turned out to be no different. I through every jig in my arsenal. I split shot 5 color worms and I dropped shot the deep holes. NADA! I then move to some shallow & deeper grass flats to 8' feet and cranked my favorite Mann's lipless crank, and a baby Speed Trap. Nothin. 3.5 hours and not a single bite. At 11:00a I headed on down the San Jaquine near Ladds, pulled up on a rock wall and grabbed my 7A Red Bomber. BINGO! 3 pounder. I fished on and off, around and about that main river all the way to Venice Island. Caught a total of 14 keepers from 2.5 pounds up to and including four fish over 5 pounds. I can't say that I've ever run into this kinda fishing, in December & January, over the years, maybe because I overlooked it, (NOT!) but it's still working. Get on them river levees and crankem in the afternooon. I think I'll do myself a favor and sleep in next trip.

Report: Arrived at the banks of Whiskey Slough around 4pm. The rain was pretty heavy at times though it didn't last very long. My friend Jim and I put out several baits and rigs: Anchovie, Mud Suckers, Grass Shrimp, and till dusk I was throwing a fat A crankbait, and a similer crawdad crank. After 6 hours of fishing we didn't get a single bite. We relocated twice but it didn't help. Although the fishing wasn't good at all the time just to relax an talk about old times made it worth the trip. Anyway, that's my report...good luck to all of you. Troy

Report: Bite seems to have improved a little with the water warming. 4 fish today for 11.55#. Early in the AM flipped a couple of 3.5-4#s in about 4 feet of water in tules. Had several other bites in same area but straitened the hook on a couple. OH well! learned something new. The two other fish came off a drop shot rig (Thanks Bob) and a crank bait out of 10 feet of water. Fished Big Break and Middle River.
    City: Brentwood

Tips: I am liking white crank baits and brown plastics. Water warmed about 4 degrees this week and the fish seem to be moving shallower and getting more active.

Report: Lots of fish a week ago at the turning basin, all sizes. Fishing is slowing down though, follow the birds feeding on the shad on the top of the water. They are still out there you just have to find them. Find the schools and throw Mag-traps, chrome with a blue back. Although most fish are 3 to 8lbs. the big ones are out there, keep trying. Fresh shad are also good.
