Report: I agree with you jaybizzle - Chabot is too muddy right now for trout or bass fishing. I've been fishing at this lake for almost 10 years and I've never seen the lake this muddy - ever! I know Chabot like the back of my hand and I rarely go home empty handed but it happened two weekends ago when I spent a morning on a boat fishing in this "chocolate milk"! I spoke with the guys at the marina and they told me not to bother until it clears up. In the mean time, try another lake like Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: Don't even waste your time at Chabot right now!

Report: Fished my usual Alder Point this morning and caught a 5 lb LM bass. The fish was in about 12-15 feet of water just outside the weeds. I used a Zoom white fluke with silver flakes and got the big bass. Nothing else worked, not drop shot, not crank bait, and not even nightcrawlers. Strange day on the water today.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: work a white fluke slow and deep around weedlines.

Report: Went out in the tube and nailed some LM on a dropshot in about 20 ft. Nothing big but it was'nt bad for a couple hrs during the week. They planted the sh%* out of the trout, that bite should turn on soon.
    City: S.L.

Tips: Find the rocks and find the bass. Small baits slow should work.

Report: The fishing has really improved at Lake Chabot. Since I posted my last report, I've gone twice in July. Caught 11 bass to 2 pounds on July 6th and 4 to 3 pounds today on the 17th. Fished Bass Cove a couple of hours before sunset using surface plugs. Saw a few monsters in the 6-8 pound range. No takers. Small fish are active. Hits are big for the size of the fish. Plenty of swirls. Typical of Chabot, the bass seem to get active in the shallows on realy hot days at dusk. I fish off the tullies about 10-12 feet. Haven't thrown any plastics or deep runners, fishing has been too good on top! The Christmas tree program has really paid off. Thanks.
    City: danville

Tips: Please release all bass. Chabot has finally turned the corner and in a couple of years it should be a truly great lake again.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Had some luck today in Bass Cove. 4 bass to 2 pounds, all caught on a Pop-R about an hour before sunset, just off the tulies. Saw no big fish, but the action was good for the couple of hours fished. Since May, I've been having good luck with surface plugs and no luck with anything else. It always seems that Chabot is best when the weather is warm. Fishing seems to slow on the days the fog makes its way in. Hopefully, the weather stays hot and gets into the 90s or the 100s.
    City: Danville

Tips: I've had the most success with surface plugs by popping and then skimming lightly for a few seconds, followed by a complete stop and then a pop again.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: It seems the fish are moving out of the shallows, and moving down & out towards the ever-so-quick growing weeds at about 10-15 feet off the bank. It must be a little bit cooler for them hanging out in that deeper shady cover.
    City: Oakland

Tips: Fish deeper water, and have patience!

Report: Hit Chabot at about 9:30 got a boat and went fishing with my dad. First we fished honker bay with pumkin colored senkos. My dad got two dinks and a solid three pounder. Then I got a couple of dinks. Started throwoing swimbait at around twelve. Got one hit the swimbait, it was about six foot down and i see this monster bass swirl on it but, unfortunetly she missed the regular hook and my stinger. She had to be at least 12 pounds. threw the big bait about 45 min longer then went back to the trusty senko. NOthing for the rest of the day. Saw a 5 pounder under a tree limb at the island a a nice one under the boat docks but that was it. Still very new to the lake any information would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know were those x-mas trees are I can't seem to find um.

    Tips: Catch and release.

Report: My brother his friend and I rented an electric boat and trolled the lake a bit to check the lake out, it was my first visit. After getting no bites trolling Kastmasters and Rapalas we decided to fish the tules for bass. Right off the bat my brother caught a 3-4 lb channel on a mini spinner with a orange/chartruse power grub which broke off right at the boat as I was lipping it. Then I had a 6+ lb largemouth on a green and brown worm that did a series of tailwalking right at the boat before going under the boat and breaking off. I ending up catching 6 bass up to about 1 1/4lb and a 2-3 lb channel catfish. My brother caught 3 bass, all bass were caught on worms that had some green in them. All bites were very subtle at best, I set the hook on anything that felt "different". Sunday afternoon was a zoo with all the bank, bait fisherman by the marina.
    City: Montague

Tips: fish the tulies, stay in the shade during the day and fish deeper waters

Report: Hit the lake @ noon. Took an electric boat out on the water. Went to the tules and nabbed a couple good size ones. Then we headed for the island. Caught 4 more. I couldn't believe it! What a lucky day. Thanks to the guy at the marina for some tips.

Tips: Don't woory I caught and released. Brown and black/red worms were the ticket.

Report: Got a nice LM bass off a carolina rig by alder point. I got a few more bites but the strong wind made it extremely difficult to stay in one place (even with an anchor) and feel the bites.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: worms in brown or purple color would do.
