Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: For all the trout guys wondering where to catch big planters, just rent a boat and motor to half moon bay, throw out some powerbait or nightcrawlers and sit on your ass and wait...This is the best spot in the lake for trout.

For the bass anglers looking to stick some Chabot hawgs, look for drop-offs, deep water structure, submerged trees and deep weed beds in the winter and early spring. I have had the best days fishing this type of water water with pig n' jigs, swimbaits, and brush hawgs. The bass are out there, but there are smart as hell and have been in lake since the late 60's (Chabot was the first lake in Nor Cal to be planted with Florida strain bass) Do something different to entice the bass since they have seen almost everything in the book.
    City: Chico

Tips: Put your time in. An average day of bass fishing at Chabot is to get skunked. A good week of bass fishing at Chabot is to catch one or two, but those fish maybe big dogs. Pick up some garbage while your at it, the lake looks like shit with all the fishing traffic it gets.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Went out several times the past 3 weeks on my tube with a fly rod and spin rod. Caught a few small bass drop shotting around bass cove. Havn't caught anything on jigs or senkos. I hooked into what I think was a bass in half moon bay that had to be a giant, fly popped out of her mounth while she was directly under my tube. I couldn't get her up with my 4 wt. rod and 4 lb tippet. I caught several trout on my fly rod and about 5 of them over 5lbs fishing wooly buggers. Fishing is slow right now during the day because of the full moon. Fish early or late

Report: Darn, this lake gave me a good skunkin'. It looked real good and I tried it all but just couldn't get 'em to bite. total crap-out. None of my good ole standby lures seemed to work. I tried rubber worms, crank-plugs, spinners, and even a few chuggers. oh well, better luck next time. I hate Chabot.

Tips: Go and get a good burger instead of spending the day here.

Report: Caught 5 LM bass to 2 lbs on a cloudy, windy, and cold day. Hooked all the bass on the bottom at 15 feet on a carolina rig with nightcrawlers. No other lures worked -- spinners, crankbait, or plastic worms.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Super windy with a constant cloud cover. No luck at all from 9-2. After talking to some guys on a boat that were trolling all day RIGHT after they caught a good size trout I asked them what the fish were hitting and they said go for red and brown lures. With renewed enthusiasm, I threw on a bright red rappala jointed shad, and then cast&reeled about 20 times before BAM I had a good size fish hit. I set the hook hard and fast, at about 40 ft. and reeled her in. Great fighter and weighed in at 4 and some change, over 19" long. All in all a great day! And no, I wont tell you where I was!

Water Temp: 65 in the AM...

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Went out with the intention of catching some bass.

Ended up trolling for the Rainbows! Used various spoons, roosters, wedding bands, flashers with mini-crawlers. Caught 7 or so right outside the dock area. I had more fish get off of the hook this weekend than ever before. They went airborne and threw it. I had tension the whole time, maybe I need a different hook size.
    City: Fremont

Tips: Troll at various speeds in the south end of lake. Let out about 60ft of line. Put the pole tip in the water when bringing them in to prevent throws.

    Water Temp: warm

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I have recently caught many small ones (1lb-2lb), but I went to catch a big one today. Everytime I cast around covers like bush, weeds, and trees, I get small ones. So, what I tried this time was casting a rubber jig with crayfish for the trailer into the bush and weeds. Then I got this big one weighed over 8lb and sized 2 feets. It was kinda hard to pull him out of the weeds, but my line was 14lb and was strong enough to do that.
    City: Hayward

Tips: Lure:Rubber Jig with crayfish for trailer
    Line:12lb or stronger ones

Cast your lure into the bush and weeds. Let it sink all the way to the bottom, bring it up, let it sink again. Do it over and over as you hung your lure on the weeds.

If you feel a bite, of course you gotta hook it up, but as soon as you get your bass hooked, pull it right out of the cover before the bass pull your line deeper into the cover (especially trees).

Report: I've went BASS fishing here with my friend this weekend as well as last weekend. Not a single catch. I had one bite last weekend on a Senko, but failed to hook him.

We fished the Island and pretty much anywhere on the lake with cover, reeds, weeds, or docks.

We used Senkos (weighted and unweighted), spinners, rat'ltraps, x-raps, jigs, frogs, poppers.

Sad couple weekends on the lake.

    Water Temp: 71

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Chabot's bass fishing is red hot right now!!! My son and I rented a boat and fished the Island, Half Moon Bay, and Alder Point for 3 hours (8-11am) and caugh a dozen 1-2 lb. LM bass with the largest weighed in at 3.3 lbs. Bass is everywhere: drop-offs, points, and tullies. Go fishing at Chabot now and you'll think you're in the South. I have fished this lake for 10 years and I've never seen this kind of non-stop action.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: Norman crankbaits, drop-shot with 5" purple roboworms, pop R, and nightcrawlers will all do!

Report: Went out to chabot this morning with my friend to do some bank fishing at about 6:30-11:30a.m. and we had a great day. He got the first and biggest fish on a black and white crankbait, it went around 4lbs. After that no more action till we moved to racoon pt. and started drop shotting then I got 7 more ranging from 1-3 lbs. It was the best day I've had in a while at chabot.
    City: cv

Tips: We were using shad patterned crankbaits and dropshotting the ol reliable "green weenie".
