Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Caught a 1.5 pound bass on a Skeeter-Pop around sunset, across from the island and just south of Coots Landing. Had a few swirls after the lure but no other real takers. At Coots Landing, somebody caught a 10 pound bass reeling in a rainbow trout. A real trout, not a Huddleston. Seems some other bass was chasing trout nearly to the shore. I haven't had much success yet this year on crankbaits or plastics. Anybody got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Especially what colors work and when.
City: danvilleTips: Reel slow, much slower than normal. That seems to work better at Chabot than just about anything else. Catch and Release all bass.

Water Temp: 61
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Chabot's bass spawning season appears to be over. Majority of the bass seem to be in the tullies or near structures. My fish finder didn't find any bass at my usual fishing hole which is Alder Point and the island. Instead, I had dozens of bites in Bass Cove and boated 3 LM with the largest around 2 lbs. I was on the water at 6:30am and started throwing PopR's and MS Slammer hoping for some topwater action but no takers. Then I tried shad crankbaits and rainbow jerkbaits and still no success. Now it's around 8am and the sun is hitting the water, I started targeting the tullies with roboworms in Bass Cove, and bang, one after another swallowed it as if they haven't eaten for days.
City: San LeandroTips: Dropshot with 4" purple or pumpkin roboworms in about 8 ft of water just outside the tullies in Bass Cove.

City: San LeandroTips: Tullies in Honker Bay. Purple senko.

Water Temp: Warming
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Started early, lake is warming...had a productive day! Caught six, all approx 2 lbs. One pushing 3lbs. Found one approx 11-12 lbs belly up by the dam - this fish was huge! I know there must be more...Be paitent, this lake will be extremely productive in a couple weeks! Where are those x-mas trees at?????? adoss@nckb.com
City: HaywardTips: Fished the tulies mostly. Fish are up getting ready. Fish slow.. Light/Bright colors. Texas. Finnese.
CATCH & RELEASE ONLY. Lake is full of trout! And full of carp, we need to do something about the carp, they eat up the spawn. Early Am / Early Pm is the best bet. Go get em', there out there if you can be paitent. CATCH & RELEASE!!!!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Tough day at Chabot. Five hours on the water. Mostly trolled for trout. One bite and one miss. Worked soft plastics while my son threw a spinnerbait around the island. One bump on plastic leech splitshot rigged. Moved to Honker Bay with deep diving Rapala Fat Rap in Black and Silver...stuck a typical 2lb. Chabot Bass.
City: Daly City, CATips: With crankbaits - throw as far along a bank as possible. Crank it down 2 or 3 turns to get it to depth. Reel back as slowly as possible all the way back to boat.

Water Temp: 46 degrees
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the morning from 7:30 - noon. The usual tough bass bite at Chabot. I fished mostly trout-finished swim-baits (Huddleston Deluxebow and Castaic, in both floating and sinking versions, and Mission Fish), from top to bottom, between marina and the island. Son, John, fished jigs in various colors, mostly in Honker Bay and along west shoreline. Neither of us had any bites or saw any fish or fish activity.
City: Monterey, CATips: We can't help. Nothing we tried worked today.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Went out throwing jigs and sencos around raccoon pt. Dang the bass here are just non existant. I didnt see any get any bites or nothing for the first 2 hours. Took off and went into a cove around the corner and saw a toad sunning herself on the top part of the water. I brought out a 6 inch senco and threw it about 15 feet to the left of her softly so it wouldnt make a big splash. as soon as the worm hit the water this fish just slowly sunk out of site. I was patient not to move the bait or my self for what I thought was the longest time. Then I looked and saw 3 more monsters in the same place the first one was. These huge fish were schooling together like it was a prespawn march day. No luck on the senco and never caught a fish but I sure saw some nice ones.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Please Please Please come and help us with the habitat restoration project at Chabot this year. This will unfortunatly be the last one for this lake. Next year we hope to do Del Valle. We are going to try to sink 500 trees into Chabot this year. Last 2 years we did 350 so we need more help. We are going to meet at the marina for coffee and b-fast snack at 8 am Janurary 8th. Bring a pair of gloves and some raingear bottoms because the trees retain the rain water that could get on them. Hope to see you there.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Took my girlfriend out to try our luck at Chabot. Dropshotted around 12 bass ranging from 0.5 - 2+ lbs fish. Also caught another 3 using a jerkbait fished shallow. No takers on the senko. Fished from Coots to Adlers Point and later around Bass Cove. Not size, but fun fishing. Saw a few big (double digit) cruisers but they just ignore us.
City: EastBayTips: We were using 4.5 and 6 in robos in MM III, Aarons Magic, and BabyBluegill mostly catching using the MM IIIs. Jerkbaits were lucky craft pointer in Chartruse and American Shad.

Report: Caught 8 LM bass with my son in 3 hours this past weekend at Alder Point. Most were one pounders but the largest weighed two and a half pounds, which bit on a white fluke with silver flakes on a 3/0 Gamakatsu offset hook. The others were caught on a popper and drop shot. Bass were deep (12-15 ft.) outside the weedline.
City: San LeandroTips: If it's windy, go with a fluke. If it's calm, use a popper.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Just an FYI. I fished Chabot once back in the mid 90's and for a lake that looked quite Bassy after 6 hours of hard fishin' I finally caught 1. I tried all the proven lures of that era and could not get them to bite!!! Finally, I walked the banks just for fun when I suddenly came upon a lone fish who was kinda sittin' in one particular spot. Nesting? Homepride? Waiting for the next meal? Who knows? Anyways, the Bass would leave every now and then and come back to the exact spot. I presented every surefire lure to this fish and it would come up to it and then swim away. I finally put the nightcrawler on and it did the same thing!!! (swim close to it and swim away). It came back after a few minutes and somehow decided I'm gonna put it in my mouth this time and the fight was on. My personal best at the time (9 pounds) but 30 minutes to catch this one fish. From that experience I would say that the big fish in this Lake are very hard to catch. Seventeen pounds was the Lake record back then. They would not take a picture of my fish because it was under 10 pounds. There are Big Bass in this lake boys & girls. Go and gettum' and then release them.
City: San JoseTips: Do onto others as you would have them do onto you and then practice catch and release.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Caught two LM bass on 9/11 (1 lb. each) by the island and Alder Point. The first one took my buzzbait around 9am and the other one bit my plastic worm on a drop-shot. Also a few nibbles on a pumpkin jig. The first bass spit out half of an orange color crawdad it just ate. Pete H. - there is plenty of 1-2 lb. bass at Chabot and they are a lot of fun to catch. I would recommend drop-shotin near points and weeds at the above locations. Good luck.
City: San LeandroTips: Buzzbait early in the morning and crawdad jigs, plastic worms when the sun is up.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I'm planning on fishing Lake Chabot for the first time and I was hoping that I could get a little information. I would appreciate if someone could let me know the diets of the bass at this lake. I understand that many of the larger bass are caught on trout imitation lures, but what about the smaller, average sized bass. Is there a good shad population? crappie? bluegill? crawdad? leech? And what patterns have worked best in your experience?
Thanks, Pete.

Water Temp: 74-78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: To continue what i said in my last report. The work of Jon Walton and Don Osborne in restoring the fish habitat at Lake Del Valle, and Lake Chabot is fantastic, i will help this year, i encourage others to do the same. What i meant to say in the last report in which i said their are too many people KEEPING their fish. This lake more than most needs people to release their bass.Their were alot of bass harvested this year, in talking to the guys at the boat dock, alot of people were keeping their bass, hopefully with the mercury warnings, guys will throw back their bass especially their bigger bass. I RECOMMEND ANY OF YOU BASSERS WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE CATCHING FISH, GO TO WALTON'S POND ON WASHINGTON ST. IN SAN LEANDRO IN THE FLORESTA CENTER. HE HAS ALL THE HOT BAITS, AND WILL POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO CATCHING FISH NO MATTER WHERE YOUR FISHING OR WHAT SPECIES YOUR FISHING FOR.
City: haywardTips: MINNOW BAITS, DEEPER WATER WITH WEEDS. PLEASE RELEASE YOUR BASS.
