Report: Caught a 2 lb. largemouth the day beore Thanksgiving with dad at Alder Point. We used a simple drop shot rig with a 5" watermelon straight tail Robo Worm in about 12' water. It was a warm day (60 degrees at noon) but the water was cold. Try casting into the point about 20' rom the weedline and slowly retrieve the drop shot in.

Report: Bass ishing has been excellent at Chabot. I've been on the lake 3 times over the past 10 days and each time I caught 8-10 bass in about 3 hours. The largest was 3 and hal pounds and the majority are in the 1-2 pound range. The place to be this time o year is Alder Point. The reshly grown weeds provide plenty o cover and oxygen or bass. Most o the bass I caught are near the bottom (10-12 eet). The bass are hitting on plastic worms and luke all day long - literally rom 8am to 5pm. Occasionally they would chase ater crank baits. My nine-year old son is learning how to drop shot and having a blast. Chabot bass ishing should be good till mid-Nov.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: Drop shotting with a size 1 hook, 1/4 oz sinker, 8-lb test line, and either watermelon 5" Robo Worm or 4" Yamamoto red/black lat swimming worm. Fish slow and don't set the hook too soon. I also had success with a 5" Zoom silver luke and purple Norman deep diving crank bait.

Report: I stopped by Walton's Pond, a bait shop in San Lorenzo, and picked up stop dark colored jigs with rattles and a couple o bags o dbl tailed pigs. Store a little expensive but the guy behind the counter justiies the prices. He knows my secrect spots and I can bet he probly knows yours... Anyway got to the lake about 1:30 walked let side o the lake past alders point. I ished a steep rock edge with a blk/blue rattle jig with a dbl tailed blk/red speckle pig. First strike ten minutes in set hook brought him up slow. He broke the water and threw my jig.....Dam....Looked to be 2 to 3 pounds. Threw back same spot. two minutes later..bam...another got him up same thing thew jig...Dam...small one though 1 to 2 pounds... Then it hit me trim those dam weed guards and bend the hook o jig head... I orgot to do it. First time out this year. Threw bak same spot ive minutes later....Kaboommmmm... Huge hit....took three good runs, then broke water twice beore she calmed down. brought her up 12.3 pounds..What a way to start the year.....
    City: San Leandro

Tips: 15 to 20 eet are in schools right now ind one ind many. Look or steep rock walls or big rocks 15 to 20 down. Use rattles or brass to attract and go slow....

Water Temp: 70 down to 29'

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: On water again rom 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or a another ishless but enjoyable, albeit cold, day with a ew other anglers on the lake. Son, John, and I again ished mostly swim baits, large plastic worms, Senkos, and jigs looking or the one big bite. We again ished at and above the thermocline, the top o which was at 29 eet. Wind was brisk throughout most o the morning rom the north. Many schools o shad were again observed near the surace over the channel but lures run through and under them produced nothing. Neither o us had any kind o strike on any o our presentations. Our anticipation is still high, knowing that any cast could produce a giant bass. The curious thing is that there don't appear to be any small (1-2 lb.) to medium-sized (5 - 10 lb.) bass in Chabot. Are those the ones that were electro-shocked and transerred to the Quarry Lakes?
    City: Monterey, CA

Tips: Again, not much help here...we anchored and ished down-wind mostly. I moved several times trying to ind some structure which might be holding ish.

Report: On water rom 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or a ishless but very enjoyable day with very ew other anglers on the lake. Son, John, and I ished swim baits, large plastic worms, Senkos, Md Man craws and jigs looking or the one big bite. We ished at and above the thermocline. Wind was calm in early morning, then light rom the north. Water had more color than we usually ind at Chabot. Schools o small bait-ish were being busted by carp over the main channel. Son had a large bass ollow his Optimum swim-bait almost to his boat and lost another that wrapped him up in a submerged snag ater taking a Mad Man craw. I had no takers on stitched 12" Power Bait worm, large jig with 5" Mad Man Craw trailer, trolled Castaic Trout, or Huddleston Deluxebow deadsticked on surace. Chabot remains a challenge, but our anticipation is still high, knowing that any cast could produce a giant bass.
    City: Monterey

Tips: Not much help here...we anchored and ished down-wind mostly. Next time we may move more requently to try to get on ish.

Report: Its time to start thinking about this winters christmas tree dumping day. As soon as we can get the dates and days activitys I will be posting them on this Quarry report and as well as the Chabot report. The irst dumping was a great success. I went on the summer sensus shock boat or the data on the ish in the lake and was very surprized to see many young bluegill all over the lake. The more trees and cover we can get in the lake the more o a chance these ish will grow to spaun and regenerate their species. I think this is great news. Anyone who wants to contact me about urther ino or has any ideas to better our program Please e-mail me at basshunter4u@aol.com

Report: I just moved to the area recently so I thought I try bass ishing at chabot or the irst time. I walked up the hill rom the San Leandro side and came to the damn. I don't think your supposed to ish it but I saw a nice little trail leading to a cement drop o which was too tempting to pass up. When I got down there I noticed a 5-6 lber sitting beneath the ledge. I ished her with dierent plastics until inally she hit a small grub. While I was realing in, the comotion enticed 3 huge bass to take a look. I hid so they couldn't see me and dropped a 10 inch purple worm. Ater 30 seconds o twitching it, bam! Weighed a little over 12. I knew there were 2 bass that looked a bigger than her so I ished it in or a nother hour when I got my next bite. This one weighed 13lbs 10oz. Ater another 30 minutes I took o not wanting to get a ticket. Some times you have to take a chance to get the real big mamas.

Report: Only had a couple o hours to ish today. I caught a small dink with a jig and pig. Protecting a nest I guess. Watched a emale 3 to 4 lbs getting coxed into a nest by a male who looked to be about 8 oz. I was mezmerized that little guys had such a big girlriend. I put a picture o that 9 to 11 pounder i caught on 3/11/2003 in the photo section scroll to the bottom last photo entered.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: Tough right now all over lake. The spawn is on. I saw nests all over today. Early morning best time.

    Water Temp: 55-58

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I have ished the bass cove area twice in thelast week. I am the guy rom michigan that Jason reers to, in his post.Between the two o us we ished jigs, crankbaits, senkos, worms, even jerk baits and tubes in the coves. I saw 8-9 ish between 1-5 lbs. No takers, almost got the ive pounder to take a castaic trout, in shallow water. i let the lure sitting nose irst in the water, and the ish came within three inches, but would not take it. Me and jason both theorized that the mini coldront had backed the ish o. Usually in this long o ishingI can usually get my Chabot average o one ish per our to six hours o ishing, not so this time. Jason is good especially with the jig, he got one bump in a shallow brush illed cove.
    City: Hayward

Tips: bass wanting to move up to prepare to spawn, shaking worms with a rattle might work, also dropshotting, I have a eeling working a black jig, slowly might be the ticket or one o the bruisers.

Report: I walked right side about 4:30pm throwing a pig&jig and got nothing or about halhour. Switched to a drop shot with a 4 inch worm. 15 minutes in landed somerwhere around 2 pound largemouth 15 inches(still growing.) I think their staging or spawn. She was on the point. I got no hits in the coves. Sun started to set so I started to throw zara spook but no hits. Nothing was hitting the top water anyway. Two hours one ish not bad or Chabot.
    City: San Leandro

Tips: Fish slow but as soon as weather gets a little warmer you should be able to speed up presentation and use top waters morning and at night.

    Water Temp: around 60

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Oh my Gosh. Pictures are being devolped as I write. I liped a pig&jig rom a lat area to a drop o and nailed a 4 to 5 pounder snaped a couple o shots and put her back. Then walked down the edge to some timber sticking up threw into that or about 15 minutes and nothing. I walked down a ew more eet and liped my jig into a small allen tree and bam...Three good runs and a big jump. And then a asian lady up on the path starts yelling at her husband" He got ish...He got ish.." About then this bucket mouth loats up to the edge. I pull her out and the lady up on the path says " Oh my gaw! Oh my Gaw, dat beeg." I guessed the ish to be 9 to 11 pounds. I snapped o a couple o pictures and started to release the ish and the asian lady on the path" Wat you do? You ret gro? You crazy? You give to to me!" I said that that ish needs to go lay her eggs and she shook her head and walked on. Anyway what a great ish.
