Thanks to all the poeple who sighned the pettition and thanks to people like Donald or saving Lake Chabot. I went ishing today ater work in the hot weather and cast a 5" plastic worm or bass all day. Caught one 7inch bass. Things are looking up already at Lake Chabot.

Report: On tuesday I had the chance to talk with some o the board members or the parks commission. I had hoped to have some support but I did what I had to do. I explained exactly what was going on and what we needed to do to correct this problem. As o now there will not be any more bass transported to the quarry lakes. I explained the problem with chabot is not the abundance o mature bass but the lack o cover or the smaller ones. With the publics help and knowledge about the cover problem maybe we can make the dirrerence. We have not won this battle but we have shown a pressence that will not go away. I mysel will be aboard the next time the biologists go and do the shock to eliminate carp and will see irst hand how they do it. I also mentioned that when trees all in and around the lake the parks Dept should not pay to have the brush removed that there was a great place or it and thats in the lake. Overall It was a good meeting and things are looking up. By the way I went ishing today caught 1 ish ater 5 hours. A basic day o bassin at ChabotDonald C. Osbonre

Report: John Walton o Waltons Pond and I have set up a sign up sheet at his shop to collect names and numbers o all you ishermen concerned about the shocking o bass at Chabot to be put in Quarry lakes. We need as many signitures as we can get. The parks dept said they would get back to us on the matter. I they dont in a month rom now John and I are going to call everyone on the list along with channel 2,4,5,7 news and then we might create some action. Those o you who cant make it in to Waltons Pond can call him at 510-352-3932 and he will write your name and number down on the sheet or you Thank you. Together we can unite to do what ever it takes to stop the illegall transportation o lake chabot bass to be eaten by Quarry lake isherman.
City: Castro ValleyTips: Please do not promote Quarry lakes. they are a catch and kill complex. Everything is too expensive. Lake Chabots uture consessions and boat rentals are at risk. Do we want to loose those activities at chabot??? Keep promoting the Quarry lakes and Chabot will be shut down because o lack o public unds

Report: John Walton rom Waltons pond and I went to the parks Dept board meeting on tuesday. It seems the biologists didnt have a permit on record to transport bass to the quarry lakes. We have had an overwelming responce to this issue. Thanks to people like you it can make it easier to get something done about this matter. There was one biologist there that so he said wasn't in the boat that took the bass, but he was caught between a rock and a hard place. He ound out that we meen business about this and it better be stopped asap. ears about this. This could be growing problem because quarry lakes are already ished out or the bass and talks were made o going to Dell Valle to get the ish. Talks about a petition have been scratched. It wont do any good. We have done better! An investigation has been started by Dept Fish and Game on this ILLEGAL transportation o game ish. Keep Tuned and I will ill all you in on outcomes in the weeks to come
City: Castro ValleyTips: Please support catch and release not catch and kill. we will do our best to stop the shock and ship. we will need your help to make the dierence. I will post the next board meeting o importance on this page so keep inormed

Report: Oh yeah! Chabot can be diicult! Son John and I ished her or six hours Friday, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Hit the let bank on the way out, then spent most o our time in Bass Cove. We ished 7" & 10" plastic worms, jigs, split-shotted tube lure, Brush Hogs, 7" Senko's, and the Castaic Trout (deadsticked, retrieved slowly on the surace, and trolled at 25-30 eet deep behind a downrigger). No takers, and only two "pops" on a Brush Hog. Wind hampered presentations early, but subsided later in the day and became no problem. Water is very clear in some areas o Bass Cove. (O course, I spent too much time re-visiting the allen tree where I caught the 9.5 lb. bass a couple o weeks ago. Apparently it's been tried by several others in the meantime. Word spreads ast when a catch like that is witnessed!) Had my Lo-K-tor on most o the time when moving (in the slow boat!). The bottom is clean and eature-less - virtually no structure, except or a couple o underwater points and a ew sunken trees. Bass must relate to weeds along the shore (we sure couldn't interest them in anything we threw) or suspend away rom shore, although I saw *very* ew ish and no bait indications on the Lo-K-tor. It's hard to believe there are enough bass in Chabot to justiy shocking them or transplant to the quarry lakes in Fremont, only to be caught, kept, and eaten by the meat ishermen.
City: Monterey, CATips: Can't help here...nothing we tried worked. Even down-sizing to a split-shotted tube lure (rainbow trout inish, no less!) did not produce.

Report: I you have the petition send it my way. That stinks. You know I am also a die hard Chabot isherman and what they are doing is only gonna make one o the toughest lakes around impossible. Donald, please keep us imormed i this is true.

Report: This is in response to Mr. Osbornes report about the park district, shocking and moving chabot's bass to the quarry lakes, I this is happening, this is absolute B.S.! The quarry lakes gets planted with enough trout to satisy the meat isherman, Ive heard, most o the isherman will keep and eat anything they catch, whether it's a 6" bass or a 2lb trout. I am one o those dedicated Chabot bass isherman who has to work or 4 hours to get 1-2 bites, I would like to encourage all o you to sign any petitions that protect Chabot's bass. I have released a 4.7 emale bass, and the 8-9 1-2lbers I have caught this spring at Chabot. My biggest a ew years back (6.2 lbs, I also released or the good o the ishery. I also would like to encourage all o you to call the park district and/or ish and game to protest this- thanks GREG KMIT

Report: To all concerned. The park district is selling our Bass!!!!Over the past 3 weeks biologists have been shocking Chabots bass and taking them to Quarry Lakes to be caught and EATEN.Total losses approx 30 3-5 lb bass taken out o our Supposed over loaded with bass lake. Any o you who ish Lake Chabot know i you catch 2 ish let alone get 2 bites know they are soo ull o shit. In the next week or 2 there will be a petition sent around or us ew bass ishermen to sign to stop this nonsense. Our park district is a sellout. Its all about Quarry lake now because there are not enough ish in Chabot to attract MONEY. Its all about MONEY. We have to do something about this ASAP or Chabot will DIE and become just like the skateboard park downtown

My Dad managed to land a 9.5lber on a junebug-colored brush hog.Less than 1/2 hr. later, I got a 3.5lber on a red/blk rattlin' jig. Both put up a great ight and made or a un day.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Came home or the weekend and decided to ish Chabot at around 7:00 p.m. Fished a spot by the dam and immediately spotted two bass, one around 6-7 and the other around 4. I threw out my pig and jig and stuck the 4 lb'er on my third cast. I ished or the emale or a while with no success then decided to throw a swimbait or a ew minutes and called it a day. Not bad or a hal hour o ishing, especially at Chabot
City: San LeandroTips: Use a slow presentation and be very quiet when approaching a spot because these bass are very spooky. I saw alot o trout suracing so a swimbait should produce with enough time and patience.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I have ished chabot 4 times in last 2 weeks(1-boat), i had blanked the irst 3 trips. Today i walked around deep into honker bay and i caught a 4.7 bass, and a 1.5 bass within 1/2 hr o starting. I surmised that the 4.5 was spawning as i caught the smaller male irst, then cast my splitshot robo-worm right back onto wood in middle o tules, immediatley the 4.5 bass hit it hard, ( i released both ish immediatley. I ished another hour without another strike.
City: haywardTips: downsize lures, try carolina rigging, or splittshotting 4"-6" worms. As always bring your senkos.

Stuck it out or another 3 hours and eventually caught one more (2.5 lber). I caught the big one on a 5" Senko and the other on a Texas rigged worm. Very good day or the tough Lake Chabot!!!

Report: Went out at day break to ish with some buddies. We irst hit up the burner shoreline with plastics and about hal way down the shore I elt a little tap. Without hessitation I set the hook and elt a lot o weight on the other end. The ish went straight or the depths and almost took my pole with her, but I managed to keep her up and lander her beside the boat. The ish ended up weighing 8.3 lbs., my biggest bass at Chabot to date. The rest o the day was very slow, with one o my riends catching a 9" bass, and the other missing a bite.-good luck to all. Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Decided to go ishing at the last minute and hit up the lake around 1:00. I went straight to my secret spot and sighted 2 nice sized bass hanging out around the shoreline. I walked slowly toward them, and made a cast with a senko ew eet behind them with no avail. Suddenly, when I was retrieving my lure, a 10+ pound bass comes out o the depths to get a better look at me. As I retrieve the senko past her, she swims over and takes a look at it then takes it and heads or deeper water. I quickly set the hook, only to have the tip o my pole snap o, but the ish was still on. She came up and jumped, throwing the hook out o her mouth, and breaking my heart. That would o been my irst 10+ pound bass, but shit happens. Thanks to that experience, I am now more motivated than ever to catch my irst trophy bass.
