Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: OOPS! Posted this the irst time by mistake in Delta reports - sorry olks. Fished Clear Lake Sat. & Sun. Despite the wind had good ish. Saturday did not try to run to South end in my tin boat due to wind, andished north end east o Rocky point - wich I had not really scouted since the spring. Initially got on alse pattern with spinnerbait or undersize tobarely legal ish. Decided that despite weather that some ish would be on docks, and started pitching a jig. Had a limit by 11:00 A.M. Reallysolid ish, no monsters but ranging rom 3 - 5 lbs. Caught a 2.5 lber on a Senko and another o 2 lbs on rattletrap. Decided to try experimentingwith other techniques, but no luck or the rest o the day. Best 5 near 20 lbs or so. Sunday wind shited, and had to ish wherever I could indshelter. Could not get crank bite going on my water in Rattlesnake arm, so went over to south side and pulled three jig ish and one crankbait ish.Once again, solid ish, rom 3 to 5 lbs, or a total o 14-15 lbs. Gave up and got o the lake early due to wind beating my little boat (Tracker ProTeam 185 with 90 hp Merc) was taking. Sorry or lack o details at this point, but I intend to go back this weekend because good ish on a jig biteare without a doubt one o my very avorite ways to catch those green monsters. Should point out that I only had 5 bites on jig Sunday, but theywere all solid hits.
City: Hal Moon BayTips: I the weather is not crazy, limits o solid ish are not diicult to get, you just have to stay ocused and work at it. Another key point is that Iished docks that had already been hit repeatedly and still managed to get some ish o o them. Don't be reluctant to ish behind another group iyou know the water is good and you have conidence!

Water Temp: 58-62
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the Newbass isho. BIG thanks to Larry, your post really helped me and Dan. Took Thursday to get on the water late, cause I haD TO GET TO Limit Out (thanks Bob) to get some o the baits Larry talked about in his post. Just or back up. (Had a great top water bite going, couldn't catch anything under 4 pounds, and was real happy) Then mother nature thru us a curve in the nature o a cold ront, and just like cinderellas pumpkin "poo" it was gone. But I new the ish would be there, so Dan and I headed to our primary spot, and within seconds I had a buzz blow up that o course I missed. (was going to be one o those days). Ninety minutes goes by and nothing (sometimes were a little slow),and we make the move to #2, where upon arrival, I start to ish shallow, and Dan throws a senko out towards deep water. The lake is minus a 2 1/2 pounder, we stayed all day and caught ish all day 14.55, I think. Slight breeze was up on Saturday, but not too bad where we were.(Can't say cause West Coast next). Sunday however was a dierent story. The wind was howling rom the south, pulled up on our spot, and threw senkos. Nada, but we kept noticing the birds eeding the young. They were diving and comming up with small bluegil and shad. We tied on shad patten cranks and bang. Got one ish about every hour.(not hot bite, but consistent) Total or two days 28.55, couldn't get the big bite, but collected some dough. 15th place out o 130 boats. Guys that won had over 34 lbs. THANKS LARRY. Now it appears I'll have to get some o them jigs.
City: MilpitasTips: Pay attention to the wildlie. Ater all the pressure, downsizing could be the ticket. 240 Senkos, Fat ree shad

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club, in conjunction with San Jose Bass 'n Tubes, held its Invitational event on October 21 & 22. Winning weight (10 ish) was 27+ lb. Second place was 17+ lb (6 ish). Big ish on day 1 was 7.10 lb, & big ish on day 2 was 5.01 lb. 35 anglers participated! Bite was rather tough or most. Bass went primarily or spinnerbaits & crankbaits, although they were also caught on topwaters & by lipping. The wind was a actor, especially on Sunday. Water cooled rom 64 F on Friday to 60 F by Sunday.
City: Santa RosaTips: I you'd like more ino about the clubs or details o the Invitational (to be posted soon), check out our websites: http://scbbbc.homestead.com & www.bass-n-tubes.com.

Water Temp: 65.7
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished late Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.Alot o dinks and ater missing what I thought was a decent pickup inally caught the maybe 6 inch little monster. I got lazey and started doubting the pick up and this cost me a nice ish. Around 12:00 the bite turned on but only lasted 2 or so hours. All my ish were rom 12:00 to 2:00am in 5-7 oot o water, rock bottom and on the tulie water interace. I only caught 5 ish , the largest 5.2, and the small one was an even 2lbs. Then it turned o like a light switch. Sunday was clear, post tourn. and hardly any boats on the water. I slept in and started ishing around 11:30 am inishing around 3:30 pm. Not one decent ish, alot o 6-10 inchers which drove me nuts on the worm and jig pick ups. I began to slightly eel or weight and on more than one occasion elt weight and so did the ish, busted.Oh well, I guess hook sets are still ree. Interestingly, ater dark evey pick up was a decent ish, the little ones shut down.Nothing on Cranks, spinnerbaits, every ish on zipper worms or 3/8 oz. rattle-back with a yamamoto double tail grub.
City: sacramentoTips: Rock, tule, crawish. The 5.2 spit up a 3 inch crawish . I suppose this could explain the night pickup in quality ish since crawish are more active ater dark.

Water Temp: 66
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished two anglerettes (ladies) on Thursday or what turned out to be a good trip. Each o them lost a nice ish on cranks at the beginning o the day. We worked popular rockpiles around Rattlesnake Island, but the tournament olks have made those diicult to have much success. So we moved to some o my avorite rocky areas that don't get too much pressure, and we all started ishing my avorite daytime jig - a Rodstrainer brn/orange with #180 Yamamoto grub. At 8 am I get the irst one - a nice 4-7. One o the ladies lost a nice one, and we missed a ew others. Around 10 am, I stopped my jig halway back to the boat while I was explaining techniques to one o them. As I looked back to resume my retrieve, my line had moved! I set the hook to a great 6-7. Boy, the girls were excited - they had never seen a bass that big. Again, deadsticking, whether it is intentional or not, works or big ish!!! A ew minutes later I get another, 3 1/2. A little while later we tried to ind a dock to ish between all the boats on the west bank o the Rattlesnake arm. I taught them to ish Senkos, but we didn't land any - missed two. Back to the jigs, and one o the ladies set the hook and landed her ish jig ish, right at two pounds. Back to the island, where I was determined that the other lady was going to catch a jig ish. She didn't let me down, at 2:20 she got a good hookset this time and was rewarded with a nice 2-10 bass. That was it - 5 jig ish on rock or about 18 1/2 lbs. These ladies are believers now - jigs work!!I did three trips - Monday night, Tuesday, and Tuesday night, 3 trips in 36 hours. I was kinda tired on Wed. The night trips were good, with 8 bass landed the irst night to 6 pounds, and 10 on tues night, but just a 3 1/2 average - no big ish. Brush hogs, 10" Power Worms, and 8" Zoom Big Dead Ringers in Junebug were the best baits. Crankbaits were working too, but not spinnerbaits or some reason. The slower I worked the crankbait, the better. Clients and I cranked some ish on Tuesday with chart/blue cranks. Biggest was around 5 lbs. We also got some ish on #240 Senkos around docks in the Buckingham area. I think we got 6 ish total.
City: Yuba CityTips: With most tournament anglers presenting millions o baits to these ish in much the same manner, try to do something dierent - wild colors, dierent actions, and above all - try deadsticking. That gets their attention - sometimes!!

Water Temp: varied dependin
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished Clear Lake Saturday or irst time since April. Did ok, not great or this lake. First thing in morning cranked a wall and oshore rocks on South side o Rattlesnake arm, but did not get a hit. Went to area on north side o Rattlesnake arm that I know has ish holding on it. Missed one with a deep diving red crank, no more hits, so switched to rattletrap and bang! A eisty 8 inch dink! Started doing this and ater 10 or so, realized that I had a problem. Had only caught 2 hal pounders that were barely keepers in the mix o dinks. Tried a black blue jig, and brush hog with no bites. Moved o the spot towards a group o docks and pulled a better ish o about 2 lbs, and a second slightly smaller. Decided that big ones were not in the mood, so started buring the trap along a steel retaining wall on the way out. Missed a better ish right at the base o the wall, and put another o about 2.5 lbs in boat. No other hits, lots o boat traic. I knew I could work this area or a limit witht the chance that eventually a bigger ish would come up, but decided to see i ish had moved o the bank due to pressure. Ran up the lake to the sailboat dock just south o the narrows on the north side o lake. There are some oshore brushpiles here that have been good or me in the past. Had one hit on crank, nothing on brush hog, and decided to try a new area on the South end by Bass alley. Many boats in here, but ound an oshore ledge and cranked it. No hits. Decided that maybe best bet was to thrash moss near shallow water or what ew active ish were let in an area that had at least 5 boats move through. Wanted to try Senko and Bingo! Caught 3 keepers, 1 to 3 lbs in hal an hour. Saw several good bass in area, but gave water to two gentlemen ishing the tournament. Now I elt that I was onto something. Ran to similar water by Buckingham and started pitching senkos aroung docks and o deeper weed clumps out rom shore. Caught a couple o hal pounders and another or 3 that nearly yanked the rod out o my hand! Cruised back to my home base in Soda Bay, and noticed a good ish busting shad or baby bass on an outer weed line. Decided to throw a Devils Horse topwater and pulled a two and a our on back to back casts. Then caught nothing but small ish on senko and topwaters to inish out. All in all a decent day considering that I had not been up in a while, but no big ones.
City: Hal Moon BayTips: Be lexible, and don't be araid to go into an area that has already been ished over. I am now really a believer in the senko. I did not move the lure at all. Allowed it to sink on slack line, just watching line or movement. Missed several senko ish because sometimes they sucked it in and did not move, so when I took up line it elt like weeds and I would set too late - DOH! Have a topwater rigged and ready i ish come up. Most o the T-boats were very courteous - thakns!, but had two boats that were a little pushy. I you ask, I will always share the water, and the majority o the time I will give it up completely, so please be considerate.

Water Temp: 62-64
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished day trips Wed, Thurs, and hal o Fri. All trips were "learning the lake" type o trips, but we did ish quite a bit. I started o in great style - showing clients how to ish a Senko (#240). I convinced 'em that they work when I set up on an 8 lb 2 oz beauty - and it stayed on!!! Maybe I am inally pulling out o my "losing the big one" slump I've been in this past year! We were ishing a little spot that I love on the west side o the Rattlesnake arm. She hit about 8 am in 4 eet o water, probably because it was cloudy and the water was choppy. Client got his irst Senko ish in Konocti Bay - about 2 1/4 lbs. Caught a couple on jigs, and a couple more on Senko's, but they wern't too big. Thursday, I had one client, who ished well. However, we were battling post-ront conditions. We ished jigs deeper and got two, one nearly 4 lbs at Shag Rock. I was amazed to ind some thick algae ater the storm, in Konocti Bay. We ished Senkos and caught 3 more quality bass, shallow, in weeds and docks. It was like the old days - green slime in the reels - WOW!! We wound up with 5 bass or 16 1/4 lbs. I was pleased, but it was tough ishing. Friday, we ished or a ew hours around Rattlesnake Island, along with a cast o thousands, and actually caught a couple. One o the guys cranked a nice 3-10 on a white crank, I got a 3-7 on a Rodstrainer jig, and the other ellow lost a nice one at the boat on a morning dawn Magic Worm. These Magic worms have been working very well or me during these high ishing pressure times. We also got a ew smaller ones. I was targeting subtle areas that don't get much pressure. This is one o the keys to ishing Clear Lake these days - orget the popular rockpiles - i one boat leaves, another will take it's place 5 min later. The bass are looking up (rom a distance) and studying the latest in hull designs!!
City: Yuba CityTips: I am still ishing the 5" Senko, which is what I caught the big one on. I you havn't tried color# 240, you should. It really seems to attract larger bass. Dark colors seem to keep the dinks away a bit. The salt and pepper, white-like colors really will attract the dinks. The jig bite is still holding up or us, rom 8 to 30 eet deep. I still think that the #180 Yamamoto grub trailer is the best there is!!!! I have been doing better lately with the 5" single tail. Don't know why.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished clients on Friday, took a short nap, and ished more clients that night. That is a long day (or night?). Even though we moved around a lot, learning new areas, we did ish some, and caught about 6, up to nearly 3 lbs, mostly on jigs and morning dawn Magic worms. Found a shallow rockpile in shadows about 9 am on the west shore o the Rattlesnake arm that had several ish. The client that was learning lost a nice one, I landed 2 splitshotting a Magic worm, and the other client lost one or two. We landed a ew more in Pirate's Cove on Rodstrainer jigs, and one or two in Konocti Bay. I was amazed at the number o boats I saw on Friday - amazing! It is not hard to igure out why the quality ish eat at night! The trip Fri night started out slow, and really ended with a bang. We cranked Shag Rock at dusk and clients caught one each - about 2 1/2 each. One o them lost a 4 ater dark on a worm. We worked Henderson area or over an hour - not a bite! Spent the rest o the time south o the narrows, and as the moon got lower, we started picking up quality ish - client with a 5-1 on a red shad 10" Power worm - other client with a 5-6 on the same bait - and me with a 5-3 on a Weapon jig. We ending the trip on a small rockpile near Rattlesnake Island. I was waiting or them to make their last cast ater putting some things away. One o them said "one more cast", and not just wanting to stand around, I picked up my crankbait rod and threw my deep-diving black crankbait over the rockpiles and "ticked" it back to within 7 or 8 eet o the boat beore a 6-14 jumped all over it, jumped, and got us all a bit wet! Wow! This is not a sport or the aint-hearted!!! We wound up with 8 bass - our 5 biggest ended up at 26 lb 2 oz. Great ending to a really nice trip.
City: Yuba CityTips: Though cranking, Senkos, and jigs are all working during the day, don't orget that you can ish Clear Lake, when there is a lot o pressure, just like you would Oroville or Folsom. Try dart heading a Magic worm or splitshotting a worm or grub - casting or dragging. Clear Lake bass love a morning dawn or blue ghost Magic worm. You will get a lot o small ones this time o year, but you will also get quality bass as well.

Report: Fished the ABA TOC. I could eel the pressure that the ishwere under or the past ew weeks. The larger ish were getting harder to target as the days wore on. We got 16.77pounds or ive ish ishing weeds with Senkos, Brushhogs, and some reaction. Thursday and Friday, we were getting quality blow-ups on Spooks and Buzzbaits, but it basicallyshut down the morning o the TOC. The bass seemed to pullo shore and at the same time, tight against shore, butout o were they were being hammered in the 5 to 8 ootzone. We igured it out too late.
City: LincolnTips: Work top water around shallow structure 3 to 8 oot earlythen lip weed patches with brushhogs and worms later inthe morning. Fish hard all day and believe the next bite will be a big one. Never give up!!!!!

Water Temp: 70
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Made a last minute decision to head down and do some night ishing on Monday. Only had a hal hour o daylight when I got on the water or one blow up on a buzz bait. Took a break at the campground and headed out around 9. Wind was blowing lightly but there was enough chop to toss my little boat around. Finally got behind Rattlesnake and ished out o the wind or about an hour landing three ish rom 4.0-5.2lbs. The wind soon dimininshed and I moved around to the ront o the island and started ishing some rockpiles. I landed six more bass rom 2.5-7.8lbs and a 2.4lb crappie! The big bass slammed a crankbait in 10' ater I was hung up or a minute and popped it ree. It was one o those ish that jumps and you think its ten or sure, but then you lip it and its all head. The bite died at 1am but I stayed out until 3 just in case.
City: ArcataTips: Fish came on a bit o everything 10" power worms, 6" zipper, big spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Pick a ew good areas and rotate around them sooner or later they will move up.

Report: Found a ew ish down by the ramp, boy is that place dierent(They should have done the bathrooms too). Fiehed mostly top water until 11a.m.,then went to spinnerbait. Lar rys right. the water is gin clear, although I did run through some o that thick green stu that gets all over your boat that the lake is amous or. Largest ish was over 6 (sumo rog early), best 5 maybe 22-26 lbs. Don't think it will last until the end o the month, so this week I'll try Cooch's method and see i it holds.
City: MilpitasTips: Try tha rog, and remain conident. The bites although slow may surprise you.

Water Temp: 71
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Had another client provide a un ishing experience - maybe not a dramatic as the guy jumping in the lake to get his bass - but still out-o-the ordinary. We ound a school o 2 to 5 pound bass crusing around the back o Konocti Bay Thursday around noon - the water was crystal clear. We started throwing Senko's at 'em and he hooks one - sets - and his line breaks at the rod tip (he was using his own rod!). We kind o looked at each other and then looked out to see i we could see his line. There it was, curled up about 15 eet in ront o my Ranger and moving o. He says he thinks the ish is still on, so the great race began. Here I am, chasing a ball o curled line - trolling motor on high. We got it, and he brings in his prize - by hand! Unortunately, it was only the bronze - about 3 1/4 lbs. Wonder what kind o line he was using - I orgot to ask him. His partner caught a nice 5 1/2 pounder earlier in the day on a crankbait. Since this was a "teach the lake" trip, we didn't ish much. The two previous nights were pretty good ishing, catching about 8 ish a trip, with the 5 best going over 20 lbs both nights. My Wed. client did catch a 9 lb 2 oz toad on a 10" red shad Power Worm near the narrows. Worms and Power hogs were the best baits.
City: Yuba CityTips: This is the overall clearest water I've seen in September at Clear Lake the past 27 years. The Artic storm we had at the end o August killed all the algae that was starting to orm like it does at this time every year. The water temp dropped like a rock during that storm - about 8-10 degrees - unheard o in late August. Finesse ishing, anyone?

Water Temp: 70-74
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Spent Friday, Saturday & Sunday guiding here this weekend. We were met Friday with overcast and early morning drizzle. Water temperature had dropped signiicantly and we had a steady breeze. Fishing was kinda tough but we did manage 11 keepers rom 3-7 pounds. Best 7 was pushing the 30 pound mark. Not may bites, but they were all good ones. Jigs, big Senkos and blades. Saturday we woke to bluebird skies. Started o with a couple 4 pounders on topwater and then just hammered big ish all day long on jigs. It was kind o the opposite o what I had expected rom the overcast on Friday. We caught huge ish all the way down to 40' through out the entire lake. Best 7 on this day was well over 40 pounds. Included in that was a triple play that saw 3 ish over 7 pounds caught all at once. It was an amazing sight to see all three rods bent in hal, at one time. We got a picture taken that I'll have on my website soon. Sunday the bite trickled o some, but we still managed to catch about 10 keepers, the biggest about 9 pounds and the best seven was over 30 pounds.Great Weekend, ClearLake in the summer/all, sure beats the Delta!
City: OakleyTips: Jigs, 9L SENKOs, Spinnerbaits and white cranks. Think deep, deeper and deeper! Fish em slow and methodical, look er the bait.

Report: Had jury duty in the AM so I went ishing in the PM o a very hot day. Caught a 1.5 on the back side o rattlesnake on a 208 senko. I thought, this is easy--wrong. Extremely clear water--no wind at all I saw millions o small bass(under 8") cruising shallows and nibbling on my senko. Fished docks, rocks, etc and no bites. At 6 pm, headed or thick wood by redbud. Caught two 3.5's. One one a senko, one on a rog. three more 1.5-2.5's on senko. Saw hal o them eat it. Fished shag rock at dark. Caught two 2 lbs on a brushog and one 3.5 on a 10" worm. Might have stayed later than 9 pm, but I had to work the next day. One interesting thing happened. I crank a set o 4 pipes in the aternoon. Today, I hit a bunch o moss w/the crank. A seven lb and a bunch o 4's and 5's ollowed the moss encrusted bait to the boat as I jerked it to try to get rid o the moss. Ater that, nothing would entice them. I wonder i a rip bait might have gotten a second glance.................

Had only one ish in the boat at 3am,so I went to sleep. At 4am my non-boat lipped one onto my belly. From then on it was a good bite,as we caught ive ish,and lost three, lipping blk/blu jigs under the docks in Pirates cove. The moon was pretty bright, and the bass were under the shade or some reason. I heard reports that at Frazier, the bite turned on at midnight to 2am. Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Well, now I am going to have to show crankbaits more respect! Ater some successul cranking by my clients the aternoon beore, I tried it yesterday near the ront o Rattlesnake Island near a dropo, and at 7:15 am, had a 10 lb 9 oz monster just stop my chartreuse/blue crankbait. No strike or tick, it just stopped! Finally, she moved o to the let and the un (terror) began. I will have to say that my G. Loomis crankbait series rod (845)really handled the ish well. This was my second largest bass ever on a crankbait and I was pumped when we got her in the net. I don't do a lot o cranking, so this was a very special ish to me. The previous aternoon I had two clients rom Washington state, and ater they caught a couple o 3 lb jig ish, I had them switch to chartreuse/blue crankbaits and taught them how to "tick" the top o rockpiles. Within 10 minutes (around 7 pm) I was in the boat with 2 o Washington's happiest citizens, with one landing a 6 and the other a 5-7. Got a terriic sunset photo with them standing together (ather-in -law, son-in-law). The wie will be proud o her husband and ather. They caught another 2 1/2 crank ish beore dark. It just got better ater dark on jigs, 10" Power Worms, and Terminator spinnerbaits. We caught 10 ater dark, with ather-in-law sticking the biggest on a jig - 7 lbs 9 oz. His limit alone was around 24 lbs. Those guys cost me a lot in ilm!! O the 15 total ish, our ive largest weighed an ounce or two over 31 lbs. A weird, cloudy, humid night, with not a breath o wind. I think the lack o moonlight really helped us. We ished rock structure all over, rom the narrows south. We did catch 3 on Shag Rock, an area that is just a shadow o it's ormer great years. I enjoyed my ride home rom Clear Lake yesterday!!
City: Yuba CityTips: When I ish crankbaits, I try to ish them as much like a jig (slow) as I can. Suspending cranks are not the answer on rock piles unless you're wealthy. When you hit a rock, you want the bait to be able to loat up, out o the crevice. I you ish the crankbait too ast, they will slam into the pinnacle type rocks and get stuck, and then you mess up your area getting them o. I you can master a steady, slow retrieve with occassional pause - ticking the rocks, you will have success, especially in the all. I like deep divers, even in shallow water, because I can adjust how deep they go by the speed I reel it. I you use a plug that doesn't reach the rocks, they will not be eective. Chartreuse/blue was obviously eective or larger ish (5-5, 6, 10-9). I have ound the Berkley Frenzy in both sizes to be very eective or large bass at Clear Lake. A riend o mine caught a 10-15 on one last year. I was using the smaller one or my big ish. I thought the small one might be better because o the relatively clear water.
