Report: Thank you, Cooch! This is a report - honest!! My first back to back guides since my surgery - all is well! Thurs my client showed me he really knows how to bass fish. He caught most of our 24 bass and we combined for a 22 1/4 lb limit. Big bass was an 8 1/4 pounder that took my wacky rigged #301 Senko. We launched out of Red Bud with the idea that he could become more familiar with the south end. I really can't say what bait he was using most of the day since he fishes tournaments and he adds some home made touches. For the first time I fished a variety of 5" Senko colors wacky style - which I really haven't done much. I usually fish them the ol' fashioned way. That does work better in the green slime we are seeing this year in places. I used the 2/0 Gami hook with the weedguard. It worked well but I did loose quite a few. We fished many types of shallow structure - docks, etc., and finally saw bass hide under docks during the warm afternoon - even caught one or two! Today I had two clients out of the Oaks. We launched in beautiful weather about 8 am - no sooner left the ramp and it totally clouded up and winded - yes, a new term for instant wind! Since one of the men had a physical handicap, we needed to try and stay in calm water. We fished the keys, Rattlesnake area, and finally the west shore of the Oaks arm. They struggled some but each did catch a few nice bass and missed a lot of bites. One guy lost a good one when it jumped. We discussed setting the hook. We wound up with only 12 bass up to 4 lbs, mostly 2 1/2 to 3 lb males. Senkos were working again along with green pumpkin Power worms and dead ringers. A rock flat I usually fish in the summer produced one of the biggest bass for one of the guys. We found bass from 3 to 12 feet.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Friday morning I again tried a few things that my client wasn't throwing - cranks, rips, and jigs, trying to read the mood of the fish. Again, nada! I knew the worm bite would be ok, and it was. We did try some off-shore structure in the morning with no success. It might have been better in the afternoon - we didn't try then. As for the spawn - who knows? This may be another long period of early and late spawns. Most of the baits we threw both days were darker colors - combinations of browns, greens, and purples. I even caught my first bass on a #157 (smoke w/purple flake) Senko. I often used that color as a jig trailer. Of course, Cooch has me using #164 on occasion too!!!

Report: Noticed not alot of reports. Thats cause the fishing is tough. Tournement weights way down with. hard to get a 5 fish limit for 2. The long cold winter and fronts that keep changing the fish patterns has them screwed up. Some tink the lake is on a down turn. we will see

Tips: make every bite count. Some days they are far and few.

Report: Fished the 23rd-27th and the best day was 14 fish and nothing over 3.9 pounds. Many different reason why people think the fishing is so poor. I guess you can use minnows if you want to pay the price. We fished all over the north and south areas with limited success. Don't know if the poor fishing will continue but with gas prices the way it is I would wait until you see the reports posting better results. Most of our fish came on jigs, drop shot, a couple of AC, Senko and frog fish but nothing over 3 pounds. One of my fishing partners in his boat said they caught 40 fish on drop shot around docks. Must have been a luck spot becasue could not duplicate it.

    Water Temp: UNK

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got the boat inspected, hit the water about 6:45, it was cold. The wind picked up right away and blew all day, fished from Lucerne to Rodamn. We picked up 2 within the first half hour 45 min on drop shot, both were small fish. Missed one by Tule Island ater that nada.
    City: Grass Valley

Tips: Fishing in high winds is no fun, add cold to it and it is really no fun. Consult a better weather man!!!

    Water Temp: 57-61

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: We fished the north end from Lakeport to Rodman. Saw a few fish on beds but they were very skittish. The wind made fishing the docks very tough, so we ran to Rodman Slough. We fished the Slough for 4-5 hours throwing the kitchen sink at them. We saw one huge bass in the shallows but it disappeared before we could try to get it. W tried everything we could think of and only got two bites. missed both fish and decided to call it a day.
    City: Suisun City

Tips: Don't fish the lake with 20-30 mph winds. the water temp dropped and made the fish have lock jaw. I talked to a few anglers at the dock and they all had a similar story. Best I heard was a couple small fish. Oh well beats a day at work.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Starting April 8, all boats entering Lake County for Clear Lake must be inspected and receive a sticker. If caught on lake with no sticker = ticket with $100 fine, etc.

What to do? Make sure your boat and engine is DRY, DRY and VERY DRY (no water in bilge or livewell). Make sure your livewell is VERY DRY AND CLEAN (no dirt, sand or fishscale). Make sure your drain plug is out. Tilt your engine at least two times to drain out all water, repeat while you re on the trip. If they find a drop of water inside the boat, you will be directed to decom station where they spray hot water on trailer, boat, and livewell.

Sorry for incoviences, but it will be worthwhile to preserve our fishing waters for many generations to come.

    Water Temp: 58-61

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fishing was slow. I think it was due to the big temp swing and the fishing pressure (WON & Chico Bass Club prefishing for their Tourys). With the water still being too cold down south, everyone and I mean everyone was up north. There was a 1 to 3 boats on every point/slough. Anyway, we battled it out and was able to get a few fish over our limit up to 4 lbs. Some boats did a little better than us and some boats got skunked. Maybe with the weather staying warm over the weekend the toury guys will do ok. We caught all fish in 4 ft or less. Caught 1/2 of the fish flippin senkos/creature during the day and other 1/2 on spinnerbait in the evening. We tried flippin /dropshotin docks with no luck. For us the fish willing to bite were on the bank. Man we need some stable warm weather!
    City: Elk Grove

Tips: At least 10 bass boats got broken into at the Konocti docks and another resort dock in the area. It was obvious the thieves knew the big toury was in this weekend. The thieves took everything but the boat! Rods, Tackle, Electronics, Spare props, etc. Don't trust your boat storage locks and bring everything inside your room when staying at Clear Lake! For the victim's of the heartless crime our thoughts go out to you. I know I have put countless hours into tuning/customize my baits (let alone the money to replace everything). You might want to check Craig's List. The losers might try to dump the stolen goods there.

    Water Temp: N/A

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Big V and I both agreed fishing is not near what it was last year around this time. The weather was really nice but just not hot enough. The water temperature couldn't be seen due to fish finder malfunction. We mostly stayed in the south end but did adventure a little up north. We didn't see any baitfish, bluegill, or crappie. The only thing that we did see was a couple boils by some carp. We thew everything we could think of. Every boat except 2 we came across had the same problem, no fish. If they did catch something it was more like one or two and nothing worth bragging about. The wind did pick up quite a bit near the early afternoon and made the lake really ruff. We did have 2 bites all day though on plastic worm and drop shot. They are definitely not up yet. Is anybody catching any numbers or size at all? Swimbait fish? Seem like giving it a couple weeks and it should be ready. I think the pro's are suppose to have their big tourney next weekend. This will be an interesting tourney to see what kind of bags they are bringing in.

Tips: If you get a bite set the hook like it's your last cast. Keep your eyes open and keep posting.

    Water Temp: 53-55

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I had a nice trip yesterday with clients from the midwest! The "new" hip behaved well and the Evinrude fired right up after a 5 week break! The bite did seem slow to me and was confirmed by several I talked to after pulling the boat out. We fished out of Red Bud but didn't go north of Wheeler because of the increasing wind and 4 of us in the boat. Dad and the oldest son did ok, catching 4 nice bass up to 3 1/2 lbs. The young son hooked one but lost it. I fished some when the youngest took an extended nap!! I hooked a nice one in the afternoon but forgot how to set the hook - lost it! The bass were a little more aggressive in the afternoon when the sun appeared. Good to be back in the saddle, 'er, butt seat!!!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The jig bite was best for us with a black/blue Blade Runner jig. Only two bites on brown/orange. First bass was on a drop/shot rig - Berkley 4" green craw Power Worm. No drop/shot fish after that - strange. We didn't try anything with treble hooks with 4 in the boat. We did use some Basstrix swimbaits, but no takers this day. We probably could have finessed some more bass, but I did spend most of the time helping them look for the "big" bite. Alas, it still may take a week or so - warm weather should help at the end of next week, just in time for the big tourney!

    Water Temp: high 50s

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Cliff Croxall of Benicia, CA and I fished the April 2&3 weekdays to find a very tough bite. We only caught about 15 or so bass to 3 lbs in two full days of fishing. We fished the lake from south to north. We threw texas rigged sweet beavers and 6" senkos primarily at the bank. The fish that bit were very aggressive but far and few between. With the shallow bite pretty shakey, we tried our luck on the offshore stucture with jigs and carolina rigs, but no fish. The air temps were still in the 30s in the am and I think the fish were just not up yet. I bet in a couple of weeks with the full moon cycle due, it will go off. Just missed it this time around.
The positives were that I got to GPS several offshore spots and stay at the Ferndale resort in soda bay.
    City: San Diego, CA

Tips: wait for the full moon and warmer air temps
