    Water Temp: 49

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Due to a noncooperative boat we didn't get out Friday until the aternoon or a couple o hours (1:30 to 3:30). The weather was unstable most o the weekend, spotty showers and a light breeze Friday which made or an interesting blade bite that didn't hold through Saturday. A small club tournament produced ish to 2.5 lbs, with most ranging around 1.5 lbs. Rocky points were the best producer with sot plastics in 15' to 25', imagine that? A ew ish were a tad bit more aggressive taking an occasional rip bait, blade etc... ...but not requent enough to ill a live-well on Saturday.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Now wouldn't that take all o the un out o the hunt? Ok, only or the kids, green weanies ished too slow or me will stretch your lines rom time to time. Good luck and Happy Hook'in...

Report: The weather was horrible. Chris and I ished the east side o the lake. Fishing the trees, I caught a small spot. One that Chris missed twice. Ha ha. We caught 2 more each on the eastern shoreline, o the rocks. Split shot was the trick or us. Not many ish, but they sure looked healthy. The weather inally won. Ater ishing the arm and not getting a bite that was it. We'll try it again next weekend.

Tips: Split shot worm, ox blood and witches-T. Slow, slow slow.

    Water Temp: 48

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I made three short trips to Collins in the past week - each trip about 4 hours, starting about 8:30 AM. I ound the ishing to be quite good, and the quality o the spotted bass was excellent! I had a riend with me on two o the trips and one solo trip. I believe we had 23 in the boat total or the three trips, and my best limit was 18 1/4 lbs - all spots, including 4-9 and 5-0 lb spots, caught about 8 minutes apart!! I caught a 4-8 spot on the previous trip, and the last trip produced a 4 lb largemouth and a 3-1 spot. Can't get those at Oroville! All were caught on Rodstrainer jigs with Yamamoto grub trailers - two or three dierent colors. We were ishing around the islands and in the river arm. Did not ish the east side. Most o the bass were 10 to 22 eet deep and seemed to be moving up at the lake illed. It may be muddy now, since the rain will not stop. We tried crankbaits with no success.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Just ish jig slowly, but swim them over the really bad rocks!

Report: Launched at 6:30am. Started out in the ishing arm, but there wasn't very much structure to ish. Caught the irst ish, a 2lber, on a rock pile shakin a worm. Worked our way back to the main lake with no luck. Saw a ew ish chasing shad, threw some top water at em with no takers. Got to the dam at around 9:00am and stayed there until 2:30 or so. Caught a total o 13 ish at the dam between the two o us. a ew dinks, and 3 ish just over 2 lbs. with everything else at 1 - 1.5 lbs. A great day considering the lake level.
    City: Nevada City

Tips: Shake worms, 5 - 20 eet deep. Keep it real slow. I got a lot o bites with the worm just sitting there.

Report: Phil and I arrived at Collins around 1:00PM. The water was way down making it a pain to launch. We started ishing up the river arm with some Senkos and rubber worms. I missed a ew light Senko bites but ater about 45 min. I landed a nice 1.5 pound Spotted bass. When I landed the bass he spit up about 10 very small minnows. Phil noticed and switched to a crankbait. A ew casts later he nailed a really nice 2.1 pound Spot. I started throwing a crankbait and I landed another nice Spot a short while later. We ished until dark and only scraped up a ew more small ish. We landed 6 total and missed a ew but the ish we caught were pretty nice ish. We only saw 5 other bass anglers wich made or a nice quiet day.
    City: Yuba

Tips: Our bigger ish were caught where we noticed ish chasing minnows. Every ish caught spit up small minnows.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I had an enjoyable 4 hour aternoon trip with 3 generations o male companions - grampa at near 80 years young, his son, and 4 year old grandson. How's that or a mix!! Anyway, they had haver ished much, much less bass ished - so, I had my hands ull! We split-shot Morning Dawn Magic worms, and wound catching 8 spotted bass and 2 largemouth. The biggest bass was a 2 lb 2 oz spot. We ished mostly in the river arm, and could see bass crusing around. I did catch one on a Senko, and lost a big bass on a Senko in a bush! Average depth o the bass was 5 to 10 eet. They were on points, and in back o some coves already. Big ish should start moving in any time, as long as the weather stays warm.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Collins needs to get over 60 degrees or the ishing to break wide open. I have not ound Collins to be an early lake - mid April to mid May are primetime, usually!

    Water Temp: 47-48

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished Basin Bassmasters Tourny. Started out a pretty nice morning, and then weather was inconsistent the rest o the day. My partner John Kort and I had a winning ive ish limit or close to 9#'s. There were 7 boats in the tourny and 2 teams had limits. we did not have a ish until 12:30 pm, and a small window o opportunity opened as it usually does. We hook nine ish in the next hour and landed six. One o the ish lost was at least 4.5#'s that we lost at the boat and also had a big ish come o 3rd cast o the day on a crank bait. The weird part was, every ish we landed was a largemouth. This was bizarre considering we were ishing in 47-48 degree water, in a little rock ield in only 10-12 eet o water. You would think there would be a couple spot's mixed in there, but we weren't complaining. The other team that had a limit had nothing but sopt's. They were drop shotting in 25 eet o water. The big ish was a spot just under 4#'s.
    City: Roseville

Tips: Keep your line wet. This time o year it's about being in the right place at the right time. Bites tend to be very light, so i your not sure, SET THE HOOK!

    Water Temp: 50

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I ished Collins yesterday by mysel or about 3 hours beore dark. About 3:30, I got my irst bass, a 2 1/2 spot that hit a brown/orange Rodstrainer jig on a ledge. I ished my way up the river arm and didn't get bit! I came back to the area that I caught the irst one, and got another 2 lb spot on the same jig. Worked a little more up the west shore - nothing. Just beore dark, I decided to try an area that I really like, but has not been too good this year. Until now!! Still ishing the Rodstrainer jig, I stuck a 3 lb spot, and then, on the next cast, elt a heavy weight on the jig, and was into a decent ish. I was able to net a near 5 lb largemouth! I must have been excited, 'cause I missed the next three bites. This area is kind o an underwater lat which drops into deep water very quickly. A great 3 hours!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I love jigs at Collins in the winter. You just have to work them a little aster than in other lakes because o the nasty rocks. Look or areas that eature quick dropos - and those can be hard to ind at Collins!

    Water Temp: 52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I ished Collins last Thursday morning or about 5 hours and got a total o 4 bites - but one o them was a good one! I started on a point near Elmer's Cove with a brown/orange Rodstrainer jig and soon landed a 2-5 spot. As I worked my way up the river arm, I decided this was the day I was going to try drop-shotting at Collins or the irst time. I tied a Jig on as my weight and attached a 3" Magic Reaper about 14" above the jig. I would slide the jig and try to wiggle the reaper at the same time. Ater about hal an hour, I elt the line get heavy, but no bite. I set the hook and, wow, the ight was on. I assumed the ish was on the reaper because there was no "tick". I soon landed a "at" 4 lb 6 oz spot that really looked like a largemouth. What a beautiul ish!! Shortly ater that I had another bass strip o my reaper under the powerlines. Then I ished the main body and hooked another nice bass in about 35 eet o water, and lost that one too. And that was it! Only our bites, but went home eelin' good about a great ish!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Though the jig bite was slow that day, they are a good bet at Collins during the winter. So much or my theory that drop-shotting is a small ish technique. Maybe I was just lucky, too! Look or large bass o-shore on humps and ridges.

    Water Temp: 64

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Collins with a riend yesterday rom 5 pm to 1 am. We got 5 beore dark - 2 on jigs near the islands, and 3 on topwater (Sugoi Splash) - one o them a 2 1/4 spot. We saw only 3 bass chase shad. The lake seemed dead. Ater dark, we started to throw jigs and worms up the river arm. They wouldn't touch a jig, but would hit 8" Dead Ringer worms. We caught a couple, missed a couple, and then at 8:45 pm, nearly had my arm ripped o when a 4 lb 7 oz spot nailed the worm. What a nice ish, caught on a wall in 10 eet o water in the river arm. We returned to the main body to ish all the island tops, but they were dead. Caught 2 on Terminator spinnerbaits near the dam, and that was it - the bite died! My riend did lose a heavy ish on a zipper worm right ater I got the big spot. We wound up with 12 bass total - 5 biggest about 12 1/2 lbs.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We saw ish on the meter that were 25+ eet the whole trip, but could not get them to bite. The only biters were shallow. I deep ish won't cooperate, ish shallow and have un! We tried a lot o cranking, but it didn't work this trip!

    Water Temp: 70

Report: I ished two clients on Friday during a surprise small storm. The wind orced up to start with crankbaits and one o the clients caught 3 largemouth up to 2 pounds during our irst hour. I cranked a nice 2lb 10 oz spotted bass in the main body about 8:30 am. I tried rippin' and was very surprised to land a 1 lb 11 oz CRAPPIE. What a beautiul ish. Then I ripped a bluegill - and put my ripbait away!!! We caught two more spots on Magic worms in the blue ghost color. So, not a bad trip considering how weird the weather has been.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Lots o ish on main lake points.
