Report: Camped at Collins or two days. Found a good top water bite early and late on shad color poppers. A mix o largemouth and spots. Fished the endes o the newer brush piles and the east side o the lake. Could't get a worm bite going. Kids had a ball with the bluegill during the day.
City: Rancho CordovaTips: Poppers early and late. Fish the deeper brush.

Water Temp: 68-78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I have been to Collins three times in the past 2 weeks or short 3 to 4 hour trips. One was a night trip where I hooked 5 bass up to 2 pounds on jigs and really lost a nice spot - maybe 4 pounds! The irst trip was in the morning - I threw Senkos mostly in color #214, since the bass were eeding on bluegills! I caught 9 bass including a 2-3 largemouth and a eisty 2-10 spot. I ished Senkos in the shade pockets o submerged willows. Today I went with a riend o mine and we caught 11 in 3 hours - but no real size. We did see a lot o quality ish including a 10+ largemouth!! We caught a ew on topwater and then Senkos and worms. My riend lost a good bass that dumped him in the brush. The heat this week plus post-spawn had slowed things down. One boat we talked to didn't catch a ish. The water is very clear which will make day ishing tough or awhile.
City: Yuba CityTips: Senkos, lukes, and drop-shotting next to cover is always good in June. We spotted a ew good bass about 25 eet on ledges (on the meter). They will start moving out to deeper water now as the lake begins to drop a bit.

Water Temp: 54
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I had a delightul time guiding a ather and near 9 year old son! We started about 6:45 am on the east side o the lake. We immediately got into some spotted bass with the young man nailing a 2 1/2 lb spot on a Berkley 4" Pulse Worm. Ater awhile we switched to the west side o the lake - moving up the river arm. We looked or shallow ish but didn't see any or a long time. The water temp had dropped 10 degrees a week ago and moved all the ish out to deep water. We inally saw one in about 4 eet o water and I got the young man to pitch his small sour grape brush hog to the ish - but I igured it would take o. Instead it turned and looked at the bait but I lost it in the glare o the sun. The boy didn't however and immediately jerked the 2 1/4 lb largemouth in the boat!!! Dad and I couldn't believe it! A bass pro in the making! We wound up with 11 bass in the boat and missed several. The early morning bite was the best during our 7 hour trip.
City: Yuba CityTips: With another cold ront this weekend, it will take awhile or the bass ishing to turn on. The water need to get near 60 or a big movement to shallow water. Bass will be ound in brush and rocky areas - warming their bodies in the aternoon. The east side usually warms up irst.

Report: GETTING SKUNKED AT COLLINS? take a drive up the hill to LAKE FRANCIS to catch good #'s in 2-5lb range! Becoming a routine or us ater ishing collins or bass and trout with little or no action. ished there once a week or last month and averaging 15-20 hookups per outting (about 3-4hours). leave cranks and reactions in tackle box and ish plastics weedless. are best success (90% o bites)are with SENKOS in #301 or Pumpkinseed with green lake best bet. Must be patient with Senkos.(as one o my ishing buddies ound out).Hey Je, you will become a Senko believer sooner or later. Toss weightless and weedless across coves or into 10t o depth. let sink to bottom and deadstick. slowly retreive a oot or so and let sink again. i bass is there it will pick it up. our largest was 6lbs and ull o eggs. (remember to catch and release all bass). also try pulse worms or baby brush hogs in similar colors. toss towards submerged bushes and near the big rock pass the gated side. remember electric motors only here, but the banks have been just as rewarding. you may be lucky and hookup one here close to 10lbs, but dont count on it. but remember, this is the most underished lake in the area. good luck.
City: yuba cityTips: Bass are still clinging to bottom but in 6 to 10 eet o water. no topwater yet.warming temperatures we are experiencing will change that soon. but Senkos work year round here.

Catching most ish in depths greater than 10 eet. The water is still cold and the ish are not very aggresive. Give it a week o warm weather and the ishing should improve. For the spots ish rocky banks
City: Grass ValleyTips: use worms and ish slow

Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I took a riend to Collins on Monday aternoon or about 3 hours o ishing. Since he is used to ice ishing in the midwest, the cold north wind and terrible ishing conditions didn't bother him. The lake was up 20 eet in a week, very dirty, and the bass had to be conused! I knew we would be lucky to get bit, but we were bit 5 times, and landed 4 o them!! I got the irst one - a near 15 inch spot on a chartreuse Terminator spinnerbait in about 3 eet o water. He missed on one a jig and then caught a 14 inch largemouth on a black Weapon jig. I soon landed a 15 inch spot on a brown/orange Weapon jig. Me moved down by the dam and he caught another 13 1/2 inch spot on the black jig. Not great ishing, but good under the circumstances!
City: Yuba CityTips: We saw several ish on a rocky point when we irst arrived, but they were suspended. I told him they might move shallow and bite beore dark and three o them did! Two that we caught and the one he missed came rom that rocky area in about 10 to 15 eet o water. We were moving the jigs pretty ast to get a reaction bite. It seems to work. Tried crankbaits to no avail.

Water Temp: 60-62
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: This short report includes about our 2 1/2 to 3 hour trips in the past two weeks. Three were late aternoon and one was morning. The overall bite has still been slow but the quality has been pretty good. The best trip was last week - with my neighbor - landing 3 spots to 2 3/4 pounds and a 2 pound largemouth. He caught his irst spotted bass and was he excited!! He missed a huge bass on a topwater lure beore dark - jerked it too quickly! We missed or lost 4 other bass. The topwater bite has been slow as has the jig bite. Magic worms are working best along with Senkos in the brush. The #214 Senko has been the best color or me. I'm hoping the rain will add a bit o color to the water and bring the lake up a ew eet. That should start the late all bite, I hope!!
City: Yuba CityTips: The bass still are airly deep except early and late when a ew will hit topwater. Drop-shotting is a great technique this time o year on ledges in the middle o the lake.

Water Temp: 66.5
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Monday aternoon o, county holiday and ater going to camp ar west decided to try collins. I have only ished this lake one time about 3 years ago. The ramp was nice, and like most at this time o year was quite low. Alot o work placing brush on the points was visable below the 5 mph markers. More to the point, tried jigs, drop-shot, cranks, spinner baits, rico's and spooks. Damn near everything. Tons o bait ish that were suspended in the 16-25 oot range, nice archs on the graph. Drop shot in these areas, nata. I picked up a 4.2 lb spot on the spook in 17 oot o water o a rock hump in the main body. Two cast later a small 1 -2 lb spot sucked the spook down and was ighting creating a rucuss on the surace when at least a 10 lber tried to take the spook rom the smaller ish. Now my super spook has revamped EWG hooks and I was hoping to get her on one o the other hooks. The smaller ish had the eathered tail hook. No such luck . Picked up two more smaller spots on the rico and that was it. I don't know i it is the low water this year or the early all with the ish still in the summer pattern but it has been slow or me so ar this all. I think I'll go quail hunting or a month and then i it does not pick up ,well it will be pheasant season.
City: SacramentoTips: Female nightcrawlers under a bobber probably would have done better than I did.

Water Temp: 68
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: We had hoped to land some largemouth early and hit the northeast side o the lake early on Wednesday (6:30am). No luck at all with Buzzlite buzz bait ished on a slow retrieve in anywhere rom 3-15' o water, both in brush, trees and open water. Ater switching to Mepps Anglia long spinners, we had some hits and caught a ew largemouth, but nothing o any size. Moving around the lake to the north end we trolled a bit and that's when the luck changed. Got a good sized rainbow (14" 2lbs) and lots o hits on the Mepps and Wedding Ring spinners. We continued down the west size o the lake, getting hits but not hooking anything until we were almost to the dam when we netted another rainbow o almost the same size as the irst. More trolling didn't amount to much, nor did casting under trees and into water cover as the day wore on. We probably would have had more luck i we had proper trolling gear to get the bait down a bit deeper. All in all - not a bad day, as the trout were just enough or us to have that nite.

Water Temp: 64-68
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I took mysel to Collins today and though I didn't catch a big one, I did catch 22 bass - 18 spots and 4 largemouth. What impressed me was the quality o the spots - averaging about 2 lbs each. Biggest was pushing 3 lbs. I ished all over the main body, but caught most on the east shore. It was a very warm day and the bite started in earnest about 1 PM. Saw one giant bass in a tree, but there were no big bass on beds. Caught a ew on Power Tubes, but most on Senkos in brush. They seems to be in shadows o trees and brush.
City: Yuba CityTips: I was using the popular #194 Senko, but the top producer was a new color - #301. They really ate that one - even hit it sometimes. All bass were 1 to 10 eet.

Water Temp: 64
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I made a quick trip since the weather was nice - a storm is supposed to come in tonight. I had about 14 hookups, but only landed 6 - the biggest being a 3 1/2 lb largemouth on a #194 Senko. I was also using a loating worm, but the ish wern't taking it very good. I talked to the ellow that caught the lake record in 1998 and he was catching mostly small ones too. I saw a ew quality spots and a big largemouth crusing, but they wern't biting. One big spot did take my worm just beore I let, about 8 pm, and I lost her at the boat - maybe 4 pounds! I saw ish all over the lake - just not in great numbers. More heat is what we need!!
City: Yuba CityTips: I was able to catch three o my ish on beds with a chartreuse tube bait. One was a 2 3/4 lb spot. They were un to catch and even more un to put right back! My Senko largemouth was in back o a cove in about 10 eet o water, next to a bush.
