Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Zip Decker checking in. Saturday aternoon I was chillin with my buddy Phil Hart sipping a cold one pool side at the resort at Shasta. His deck tootsie was there and she was sporting one o Ujena's best. I'm thinking this is all good- with one exception. More on that in a minute. Phil leans over and says "why don't you bust o a post, dog? I know it's Shasta, but you're ishing with 50 guys rom the Folsom Bass Team- that's close enough." I dropped down rom the northwest- 450 miles, to ish the club's annual two day up here. It's been 6 months, and I accumulated some baggage in a hurry. So strap it on and read. The wheels came o right rom the start. No spook bite. Been dreaming about it since last year. Hooked up with my ABA partner rom last season and discovered a blade bite that produced ish that well, they could almost win. Shasta is totally ull and the water had some stain- it was a hoot. Wildman stayed with it all weekend. It works at Folsom too. I drew 16 year old Chris Hughes or the tourney and I thought this will work. It will be like a mentoring opportunity. Hard to say i he'd be a victim or a beneiciary ishing with the Zipper. He could learn how to better use explicatives or example. I decided I'd treat him to the mature topics o conversation I have with any older partner I draw. Topics like Nascar, and my new mudlaps that have the chick sillouettes. Chris stepped up immediately. First thing Friday he goes back to back on 2.5lb spots. I'm still untangling my rods- I was spinning! It wasn't until we wormed some o shore structure ater lunch when I went back to back on a couple 2lb and saved ace. I told Wildman we had 10lbs. He thought we were putting him together. Saturday day one, and we've got a plan. Props to Chris. Put this young angler on the location and he puts ish in the boat. I told him the problem with this sport is so many things can go wrong. Should have knocked wood. We only caught keepers early- no worries, Chris ound a lippin bite on the wood laying on the banks the day beore. He robbed a bulky skirt o a big jig, stued it on a 1/4 head and used a 4" Senko trailer. Talk about slow-all. This jig could almost loat. We got a bed ish we ound Friday, and I wormed another ish, a 2.9lb, with less than an hour to go. I'm down with conservation so I carry an extra clone in the tank sometimes in case one meant or the limit starts to struggle. All six got into the bag however and when I poured them into the tank we were promptly DQed. Best 5 went 8.9lbs- would have been 3rd place. Totally bush. All weekend: "Hey Zip, how many ingers?" Well Chris, we're in a hole buddy. He's all "ya think?" Sunday I buzzbaited a small limit and it got Chris out o his unk. We went to a creek with some bed ish and Chris connected on a solid 2lb. The area was a hole behind some looded willows and we pushed the brush out o the way to get the bow close enought to pitch under the branches. I elt like Steve Irwin. Chris was like Terry. We had some worm ish out on the main lake and I got out my cannonball spit shot rig. Chris looked at the size o the sinker and thought I was using it to anchor the boat. We connected on 3 nice ones in the last hour. We inished with 9.46 and salvaged the 3rd biggest bag o the day. I'd say Chris learned alot- like why he should avoid certain partners.
City: Battleground WaTips: Spawn is late. Find some beds and ind some big ish.

Then proceeded to some o shore stu and got two Smallies in the 2 - 2 1/2 lb range plus about six keeper Bass. I then went to a spot that is now under water with big boulders as this seemed to be key, I tossed my darthead Pro worm out Saw a huge lash and the ight was on!!!! This ish took me around the boat and back, as I innaly got a glimpse I thought OH no I need a net. As I tried to work her towards me to get the net rom under the console............that heart sinking gut wrenching eeling happened...... nothing there. She broke my 8 lb P-line louro at the knot. Water Temp: 63.0
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Got on the water at 1:00 pm and ished till dark. Slow pressure bites, actually no tap at all just pressure. I caught 11 ish that came on ;(3) drop shot down to 25 t., (3) carolina rig watermelon/red baby hog, and the rest on split shot 4 inch worms on 6 lb. line. The two largest a good 2.5 lb spot and a little over 3 largemouth gave that little outit a work out. This was absolutely a innese ishing day, nothing on the spook, jig, or senko's- same or the cranks and blades. I anyone knows how to catch any o those huge carp that are crusing around the willows and coves let me know. I would love to connect with a ew o those babys on 6lb line.
City: Sacramento,Tips: I would like to think the largemouth are on the beds at 63.0 but I did a lot o crusing and looking, some males and a couple in the 4-5lb range but no submarines. It should be interesting to see what this week o 80+ weather will do. Hopeully the top water will turn on.

Report: I had to take my Ranger to Sunny's electric to get some new batteries. Met Rick Teitz there and ater we went to the lake or about 2 1/2 hours ishing in the aternoon. We mostly drop-shotted some Basstrix small-ish baits and caught 6 quality spots rom 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds. We missed about 6 more. We were targeting o-shore rock structure and caught most o the ish in 15 to 25 eet o water. Saw lots o bass on the meter, but we were probably ishing the slowest time o day. I had to get back to Yuba City, so we let about 5pm, just when the ishing would have probably picked up!! I couldn't believe it - the weather was actually kind o nice!!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: We were looking or pre and post spawn spots. Didn't have much time to look around. We did see a 6 pound plus spot crusing in shallow water - neat sight!!

Report: Went to just check the boat with new Steering, tune up, hot oot etc. had not planned on much ishing. Made some long runs and decided to run way up river and look or some Post spawn Spots. Much to my surprise the irst three ish were Largemouth on a rock wall way up South. One on a spittin image and two dart headed, all bucks about 1 1/2 lb. Ran back to the mouth o the South and boated seven or eight spots in two dierent coves. I was very surprised to catch qaunity over quality!!All o these ish came on a zoom lizard with a mojo about one oot leader, and two more on a dart head. O the water by 11:30
City: SacramentoTips: I do not think the ish have actully spawned except the Smallies and about 1/2 o the Spots. We were catching Egg laiden Smallies and Spots in late March early April but the weather has not been dubiuos or spawning. Still think DEEP!!

Water Temp: 56-60
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: MUCH tougher than expected! My dad and I went out Sunday or what we igured would be a leisurely and productive day o ishing. Well, sorta... Wind was blowing pretty good irst thing, so we started with blades and rip baits in the South Fork irst thing. I inally stuck a 16" smallie on a Pointer 100 immeditately outside a major spawning bay. Caught him on the rear treble... barely. Hmmm... Dad had one bump the blade pretty good, but even with a 3/0 trailer hook in tow, no hookup. Hmmm... Next ish (17" spot) also came immediately outside a spawning bay on a Super Fluke, also on a treble stinger hook. Got the picture? Fish are simply NOT very aggressive, and seemed to be barely nipping all our reaction bait oerings. Ended up with 5 more ish on a drop shot (3 dinks, 2 keepers), 1 more keeper Fluke ish and 1 keeper on a split-shot. Nine ish total, with 6 keepers and 3 dinks. TOUGH! Best 5 might have gone 8.5+.
City: Elk GroveTips: ALL ish were caught immediately outside major spawning areas in the South Fork. There was 25'-30' o water within a cast o every ish. No sign o beds yet, and very ew males roaming shallow. Hopeully, it will break out soon.

Water Temp: 49.5-52.0
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished rom 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on new water. Looked at the north ork and the temp. was 48-49 so I did not even put the Min-kota in the water. Went to the south ork and New York with a little better temps 52.0. Picked up three ish all quality spots on yum tubes and one on a baby hog. Had to let it sit on the bottom in order to get bit. The water is up at least 5 eet over last Thursday aternoon and the temp is down 3 deg. or so. I would expect a slow bite or the next ew weeks due to illing with snow melt. Interesting thing happened in New York, all o a sudden the bass were breaking water everywhere with what looked like shad being chased. My buddy states I think it's carp but no you could see the small mouth coloration perectly. About that time two ish and game pontoons came around the corner, one on each bank shocking the ish or I suppose a count. Glad I was not swimming. Where are the lice when you need them?
City: SacramentoTips: Slow plastics almost deadsticking on the bottom. Nothing on any reaction bait used. The ish we caught were in 10 eet or less and we ished out to 20 .
