Report: Shasta is on fire. The spots are going crazy. Just throw a 1/8th OZ dart head with a 1/0 hook and any blue color grub along just about any rocky shoreline and hang on. My son-in law and I for the 4th straight Saturday put over 100 spots/smallmouth in the boat for 7 hrs of fishing, caught them in the pit arm, squaw creek McLoud arm, and the main lake. Water is still rising and the lake is in great shape. Watch for debris, since the State is raising the lake late and slowly, lots of trees and logs in the water. Keep your eyes peeled. Not a lot of size, 2 lbs. the largest fish last weekend, but the action is outstanding. All catch and release. Enjoy!! I would like to find where the largemouth are on the lake, if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks

Tips: 1/8 th ounce dart head with a 1/0 hook and blue colored curl tail grub, small, and hang on!!!!!

Report: Caught several spotted, some largemouth, and one smallmouth bass before lunch on Saturday a mile or two up the McCloud Arm at Shasta Lake. We had the most consistent action drop-shotting 4" finesse worms or bouncing Chompers adjacent to points in about 20' of water, but also caught several on a Vibrax spinner in shallower water. Most were fairly small, with the largest just over two pounds.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Went out with my fishing buddy; Caught close to 100 fish, mostly on tender tubes, our best fish weighing in at 2 and a quarter lbs. Fished between the main points and coves with brush and other structure in the back. Most of the fish were taken in 5-20 ft of water, sometimes as deep as 30. Even caught a few on crankbaits. Had a few really GOOD fish strike at a black buzzbait worked on the shallow points during the evening, but none grabbed a hold of it well.
    City: Red Bluff

Tips: Tender Tubes are slaughtering them this time of year. Use an 1/8th ounce tube head if you have a calm day; If the wind is blowing more than 5-10 mph, switch to a 1/4th ounce head to get down quicker n get more fish.

Report: In at Jones Valley sometime in the morning, camped the night there. Fished the Pit with luck early on Stike King Spinners. Moved in the afternoon towards the Mcloud arm fishing coves on the way caught a few with split-shoted nightcrawlers, as well as the same spinner. Proceeded to show my friend the Dam and spun the hub on my prop after I hit a shallow rock, should have had the depth alarm on!! Got towed back to Bridge Bay, Taxied back to Jones Valley, and got my Boat. Thanks to the person who towed me, I hope $20 bucks was enough with gas prices the way they are. Weather was great, as was the fishing will be back this coming weekend!!

Report: Most Tournaments in the last month have been won on swimbaits on main lake points. Although with this warm weather start looking for fish to migrate into the creeks. Reaction baits such as rip baits and spooks should start to really produce as the lake level rises and the water warms up.

Report: Fished 5 days, 4/17-4/21, with two other boats. Made a little tourney out of it (best 5 per day). Ended up with 43lbs. 7oz. total. Spent most of the time in the Squaw and Pit. Absolutely slayed them probably averaging 50+ fish per day, but most fish were right around 1 lb. Biggest went 2 lb. 11 oz. Only 5 fish over 2 lbs. out of the hundreds landed....any tips from locals on how to get to the bigger fish?

I started drop shotting with 6" shad color or morning dawn purple robos, and I ended drop shotting with 6" robos. In between that I was drop shotting robos. Maybe that was my problem, but I was getting so much action that I didn't want to miss anything. Mainly fished points, stumps, and rock walls. Most fish came 15'-40'.

One evening I decided to throw a crawdad patterned crankbait a few times....no bass, but landed a 1 lb. 8 oz. trout....this lake is amazing.

Anyway, any tips on how to find the bigger fish whether it's baits, technique, or location would be very much appreciated.

Tips: Drop shot if you want lot's of action. Long patient retrievals....picked up a lot of fish really deep.

    Report: Bruce,
Definetly throw that tube anywhere around wood and clay or big rock that you find, and definetely throw that white crank on any flats that you find for at least the first hour in the morning. Throw it on the windy points in the afternoon as well. Also you might try throwing a popper or a skitter walk if you see bait being busted. The drop shot bite is always good, as well as the jig. I like to throw purple colored robo worms, and you should definetly be throwing the 6-7" sizes for bigger fish.

Tips: The pit has been giving me some decent fish, best ones in the lower 1/3 of the arm, definely hit dark canyon if you fish the pit, good luck!

Report: Hey bruce by april 22nd the bass should be right on the bank. I would go to the pit arm and fish it with brown or smoke 21/2 inch colored tubes. Have a rippin rod ready and look for bait fish burst on the water. I usually go with any white colored crank. Lots of fish on lots of different baits, this is why this is one of the greatest lakes.
