Report: Gentlemen (I use that loosely here) Why can't we all get along??? We used to get some great reports and it was enjoyable to read the comments and reports from Shasta. God went to the trouble of providing a place where anyone can catch fish and enjoy the beauty surrounding Lake Shasta so let's just be grateful for small favors and Gods bounty. Johnny , hope you're back on the water soon and bring Jerry with you.

    Tight lines and good luck

Report: I know the rules say that the reports are to be about fishing. But I just can't let what I just read go without saying something. Two guys, I believe their names are The Booger and Meathead, said some disparaging things about Johnny Mac and I do not appreciate it. As for advertising on this web page... I presume Johnny pays for it, so "gentlemen", put a lid on it! Second, in his last post, Johnny was talking like a true sportsman who loves to fish. He was encouraging people to take advantage of the full lake and beautiful weather; NOT drumming up business. Had either of you two read his earlier post about the last time he was on the lake, you would have seen that he broke his wrist on 5/12 and is currently unable to fish. In fact, it may be months before he is back on the lake. I was supposed to fish with Johnny on 5/13. Due to his injury, that did not happen. I eagerly await his return so that I can fish with this true gentleman.

Report: Im curious as to where and what time you guys were fishing the top water lures. I cant wait until its time to throw top water all day. Anywho.... went fishing over the weekened with my girlfriend, we basically stuck with trout colored sinko's or brown gitzits or smoke with red and black flaked gitzits. Started out fishing rocky shores with lots of fish, but nothing above 1.5 - 2 lbs. Then moved to some willows and stuck with sinkos and gitzits, did very well near willows, but again, nothing big what so ever. Would say prolly 90% were smallies near the damn. Next day we went up Mcloud arm with same gear, caught about half the fish as the first day (still nothing big) and caught all spots or largemouth.

Report: fish the sac arm fri,sat and sunday. fished all 3 days fom mid afternoon till dark. the bite was hot as soon as the sun went down. from 5 pm on. caught over 50 spots on fri. went threw two packs of robo worms. the fish were biting them in half or just taking them all together. most fish were hitting on the drop. boy they were schooled up! had 10 fish on 10 casts at one point. they maybe small but they are fun to catch. i am only using 6 lb test on ultra light tackle. my biggest spot on fri was a little over 3 lbs. they seemed to be only wanting one type of worm . 4 inch roboworm in the sculpin pattern. redish brown top with off white belly. sat and sunday were good too. saturday produced a good 30 + fish and sunday was around 30 again aswell. sunday i did catch a couple smallies. for the most part the fish are small and super aggressive. fun for light tackle.

Tips: roboworm in sculpin pattern brown to red colors... 4 inch... back coves, flats that coinside with steep drop offs, submerged brush and trees.

Report: A coworker and I ditched work early to meet another coworker, Mike, who is on vacation, fishing with his brother who is here from So Cal. Got in the water at Bailey Cove at about 10:00 am. Just a light breeze blowing from the south. Mike and his brother went to the main body and fished between the Squaw and the McCloud on the north side of the arm. My partner, Erin and I went up the McCloud. Stopped first at a cove east of Hirz Bay and threw a rip bait and a spinnerbait with no takers. We fished first over submerged willows on a point at the entrance to the cove. Switched to a #1 M/F worm and landed a few shot ones. Moved to the back of the cove, into the willows, and threw Senkos for a few more short ones. Left that spot to fish the west side of the arm, north of Hirz Bay, and landed several fish on the next three coves with willows in the back of the cove. The first three coves I hooked one fish that was 3 lbs. + in each cove, in the willows. Also hooked a bunch of short fish, but nothing in between. We saw several good fish cruising around willows. Went back to Bailey Cove to meet another couple of other coworkers, Greg and Scott, that came out after work. We had a litle over 10 lbs on only three fish. Mike and his brother had 10.63 lbs on their best 5 which they caught on senkos, but not in willows. The wind picked up to between 5 and 10 mph. Headed back out to fish until 7 pm. We went back up the McCloud, Mike and his brother went back to the main body and Greg and Scott went to the Squaw. We stuck with fishing the willows and our best 5 weighed in at 10.38 lbs, with Erin bringing in a 3.44 spot for the best fish of the day. Mike and his brother only were able to land only three keepers for a little over 5 lbs. Greg and Scott had some decent fish, but not of much size. All in all, a good day of fishing.
    City: Palo Cedro, Ca

Tips: Use senkos on the willows. Bright colors seemed to work best along with watermelon/pearl. Get in tight to the willows. If you're not getting hung up once in a while you're not fishing close enough.

Report: Fished with a client(Dennis) and his lovely Wife (Jamie) from Sac. He is a very good fisherman and his wife is just starting to fish. Launched at bridge bay at 0530 temp. about 47 degrees fished points right out of ramp throwing spinnerbaits until we have better light to head up the mccloud, Dennis caught the 1st a 2.5 spot and Igot the next 2 both were 2-0. Headed up the mccloud to shallow point where we caught three more all small about 1.5 and Jamie dropped her rod and reel in the lakein about 10' of water,
Next stop greens creek where a caught a 2.4 . one of my clients needed a restroom, so we went back to holiday harbor and no it was not Jamie, we then fished the willows behind all the boats, nada. next bear cove willows for 8 more 1.5 to 2.25 on weightless trik worms then to squaw point for finished up at the point with 1/4 oz. darthead and oxblood worm for a total weight of 9.5 Three of the last four where smallmouths.

Report: Fished Friday-Sunday with the Redwood Empire Bass Club under clouds and scattered showers throughout the weekend. The bite turned out to be tougher than expected. Tried blades, crankbaits, rip baits, but not much luck. The best reaction bite we had was early Sunday morning when we caught 5 keepers before 8:00 on shad colored cranks. After that the bite died off. Saturday, my partner caught a 2.48 spot on a crankbait near some willows. The best action we found was in isolated willow trees tossing senkos. Not just around the trees, but you had to get the senko in the small pockets between the branches. The closer in, the better the bite. Just drop it straight down and watch your line. We averaged about 8 lbs a day for 5 fish.
    City: Rohnert Park

Tips: The senko bite really kicked in after 10:00 when the sun peaked out and the water warmed a couple degrees. Be sure to use at least 15 lb test when working in the willows to pull out those spots.

Report: Launched at Jones Valley at 0515 used moonlight on this great morning to find the houseboat from Silverthorn in Fort Creek Coves, picked up my client at 0530. Started with blades on long point in Fort Creek, not even a bump, fished several humps and points with no success before giving in to fishing the willows, had client throwing a Zoom weightless trick worm while I threw a jig My client caught three small fish and I changed to the same worm and promptly caught two more moved across the lake to Bear Cove where we caught several more including 2.5 spot, my client caught one fish on a dropshot and the rest of our 35 fish came on the zoom trick worm. No luck with dartheads or jigs. Dropped off my client at 1230 enjoyed fishing with you Greg, you are a good fisherman.

Tips: Not all the willows hold fish but most of them do even if you can't see them

Report: the fat bass are in!!!!! i nailed a 12 lb spotted bass on a senco in about 15 ft of water. i must of hit the mother load of fish. i caught 5 fish off this point that were all over 5 lbs. the water was clear enough to find these fish hangin off there beds. this has to have been the biggest spot i have ever got. my previous was 7 lbs. the fish are hangin off the flats. transitional areas like points before large open coves. fish are hangin in water from around 20 to 5 ft. they seem to be staying out in the open areas in the morning than moving into the shallows as the water warms in the afternoon. this looks to be a great year. these are the biggest bass i have seen in years.

Tips: to get bedding female use the largest worm or leach you can find. or something big in a rainbow trout color. it may take 50 casts on the same fish but patience will pay off if you can find these guys. some fish are moving into the back coves but i don't think you need to waste your time just yet. fish the southwest or west faceing coves. the fish are really enjoying the sun right now. fish shallow 25-0 ft. for small bass fish the back coves. for big bass fish the flats. find areas of loose small boulders and rocks. these fish are not sticking to too much structure right now. fish the areas were you would never think bass would be hangin out. because they are there...........
